Any translation that doesn’t include him saying ‘woman’ is incorrect. The one I just sent you is accurate. He uses the kanji for woman (circled here)

The phrase "Even if (despite the fact) it’s a woman" carries an implicit assumption that a woman in gaming has inherent fragility, and therefore, it is somehow necessary to bring up he won’t usually ’lower the difficulty’ despite the fact women are inherently more fragile than men.

This is a strategical card game which means there’s absolutely, absolutely nowhere arguable for this assumption of inherent sex-based fragility to be. It’s unfounded and biased. He introduces the fact she’s a woman out of nowhere in a way that shows bias and perpetuates stereotypes, making it inherently sexist.

After all, in this sentence, woman = inherent fragility. “Despite the inherent fragility of women.”

Tbh it’s kind of sad, her face right here and her speechlessness to his patronizing offer says it all. She made it to the finals and she gave him Obelisk, yet he says stuff like this. That sexist prejudice and bias isn’t surprising to me at all for a shonen character though

Whenever someone is like “Kaiba would be sexist/homophobic/etc!” I’m just kinda like… did we watch the same show?? Or even read the same manga?? Even if you just watch DOD you can clearly see that Kaiba wants EVERYONE to feel accepted. I hate people that think he’s bigoted just because he’s an asshole. He’s an asshole because he’s autistic and doesn’t mask. They hated him because he was a baddie 😔

If I give Kaiba anything politically/ideologically its that based on his nearly all-woman workforce and respect for Ishizu I think he is probably notably less sexist than your standard corporate officer in 90s Japan. Not because he has ever seriously considered women's experiences though. I think he simply believes that constraining people to only certain jobs based on such characteristics means that humanity loses out on the potential advances made by one who turns out to be a really good programmer or whatever, and that this aligns with his self-conception as being a man of science and progress. He has never actually spoken to a woman about non-work things for longer than like ten minutes. But Jonouchi literally told Anzu to get back in the kitchen one time so the bar isn't high

Saying Cosmo the Seedrian is better than much of the idw fancharacter sonic cast is a very bad choice. Cosmo barely did anything other than to exist and give the third season a plot story. She exists under 4kids Entertainments DEI comission to add a poorly written sonic character who exists solely to be Tails love interest and only related to the big bads role. She is a wannabe Princess Leia a faux action girl one at that the daughter of a Darth Vader knockoff Dark Oak is who sexist space hitler that has no problem killing all the Seedrian women save for Cosmo to spy on anyone and destroying all life out of spite when it goes against his objective to revive the Seedrian race elsewhere and create a new empire from many conquered worlds out of it.

The DEI wokeness example with Super Sonic and Super Shadow getting sidelined so Cosmo would be the one to do anything relevant like passing through a crushing ginormous blackhole like gravity field unharmed without the use of Chaos Emeralds just to keep Dark Oak paralyzed by merging with him based off of a copied taken anime scene from the Yugioh Big Five Arc with filler character Noah Kaiba paralyzing his father Gozaburo Kaiba by merging with him. Funny thing about Noah Kaiba and Cosmo the Seedrian they are both contrived mary sue characters made to due anything as the creators pet of their story arcs favor them at any given time.

Cosmo is better than the comic characters by virtue of the fact that she died so now nobody has to put up with her stupid existence anymore.

To me it's really a zero sum game to rank or compare the Sonic spin off OCs against each other. I don't care for any of them for all the same one reason: they're not from the video games.

As far as I'm concerned all these spin off OC characters are all the same thing. Some dumbass made up losers who aren't from the video games. There's no difference between them from where I'm sitting. The cartoon OCs. The comic OCs. The movie OCs. If any of them were worth anything, they'd have been in the games.

Episode 39

Okay one thing I really love about Gx is it hard commutes to the idea of a duel spirit world. I didn’t realize just how early that commutes to it. Like it’s mentioned in DM. But I love that all the different archetypes in Gx have like their own mini part of the spirit world and how much the Spirit world is crossing over. (Again this school is on a ley line)

Atticus is moving

The fact that all the dark scorpions are just hang out on campus and have been doing jobs there is actually really fun

Chazz sleeping with ear plugs is such a move.

Chazz going detective mode is so fun especially since he used his Ojama cards as spy’s. I love that the weak spirits he was so embarrassed by are now helping him and he’s proudly declaring it.

Anytime someone plays ‘themselves’ cures my depression. It’s so silly. All these people just ran into the field.

For someone who is so embarrassed by taking to spirits. He sure takes in a lot of strays. Like these were Shadow Riders he could have thrown them down the well but he kept them and gave them a home.

It’s a crime this isn’t the Chazz we have by season 3 (he hasn’t changed he just doesn’t get to shine) having him Jaden and Jesse running around with spirits would have been an event.

Oh well that’s what post cannon arcs are for.

Episode 40

It’s the Egyptian Pharaoh episode

The little hand drawn pictures of Yugi and Seto in Professor Banner’ official presentation to his class made me laugh so loud I scared my dog. Like my dude there are so many pictures of them you could have used. Why did you hand draw them?

Jaden had to listen to his class thirst for his dads and uncles and aunts. Some kid just called out Mai Valentine and Jaden has to be rolling his eyes so hard

They just brought up ancient Egypt and the ‘best duelist’ and Jaden is ready for Atem’s name. The Ishtar family had been working hard to reveal the true history of Duel monsters and Egypt so his Uncles first life had gotten some fame to it.

But they pull out Abidos, someone Jaden has never heard of, and say he was undefeated? Jaden is absolutely texting Atem later to ask about this guy.

Okay Jaden and Chazz are brothers. Chazz just sassed him with “sure and then you’d beat Yugi and Kaiba to.” And Jaden just played it straight and teased Chazz till he gets put in ahead lock. This is peak brother behavior

Alexis and Zane are still each other confidants. I wish this continued on later seasons. Their season 1 relationship is so cute.

They were just attacked by mummies.

Never mind he doesn’t have to text Atem because he and his friends just got spirited away on Abidos’s spirit ship.

Sigh…Why does everyone have to make a sexist remark to Alexis.

Jaden instantly volunteering to duel.

Chazz “ya ya it’s not our first shadow game.” And the. Throwing Jaden Syrus’s duel disk. (Once again peak brothers)

Jaden is being so disrespectful. He grew up around a pharaoh. It’s hard to look at a Pharaoh as a god on earth when he’s seen Atem when he’s sleep deprived and isn’t processing anything. He knows they are human.

He just stabbed Jaden with a spear.

Jaden is so happy to be playing. This man has talked down to him the whole time and just got his deck mocked as weak. But hes just here for a good time and a challenge

Which Abidos is not providing. “You can’t attack me!” Oh baby no one ever actually played with you did they? Flashback confirmed.

Jaden, you sweet boy. “Let’s start your first real duel right now!” He’s so nice to him.

Ohh Jaden just got hit hard.

Jaden compliments him and his dueling right before he beats him.

“I was thinking you could come back with me. Your to good for this place. Come back with me to my kingdom (the afterlife) and I promise you power and fame.” All while holding his hand. Abidos met someone who finally treated him like a regular person and wanted to play and proposed to him because that is what that is.

(Chazz’s only concern being that he can have Jaden’s room. Absolute sibling coded)

Jaden absolutely called Atem after this and told him everything that happened. Atem knew off Abidos. He is older than Atem and he had heard all about the dueling fake from his father and court. It was a cautionary tale to the royal family to always make sure their strength was true. Abidos was luck to rule at a time when Egypt was peaceful.

Hearing that the man came to this world and fought Jaden is concerning but no more so than any of the other shadow riders.

No the concerning part is that this man proposes to Jaden and offered to take him to the afterlife. If he had the magic power to get to the realm of the living he could absolutely drag Jaden to the afterlife. What would they have done if Abidos didn’t take Jaden’s no as an answer?

Atem reaches out to Mahad and asks him to seek out Abidos in the afterlife. Wanting to make sure this won’t be a problem later.

Abidos is in the Egyptian afterlife but his time period is in a different spot than Atem and his father. (They’re like neighboring kingdoms that way all the pharaoh family’s kinda have their own setup.)

Abidos is sitting there pinning and wondering how he can insure that Jaden will come to the Egyptian afterlife. He doesn’t want to speed up his friends journey through life or shorten it. But he doesn’t want to make sure Jaden chooses to come to the Egyptian afterlife.

Mahad and Mana’s visit is the best possible thing for him. They know Jaden? Jaden has a connection to Egypt? Jadne has family in Egypt? This is the best news ever.

Long story short Abidos starts hanging around with Aknamkanon and Atem’s court. They all watch over Jadne together. Aknamkanon and the court are thrilled to have someone around who has met and dueled Jaden. Abidos is pumped to have people who know Jaden and to have a way to watch over him. He also starts learning how to duel from Set, Mahad, Mana, and Aknamkanon. He wants to be a challenge for Jaden when he arrives. He has the time to train and he’s going to use it. (He might also need to challenge some people to a duel for Jaden but that’s another conversation that won’t matter till the Gx cast is dead)

Episode 41

Finally an Atticus and Alexis episode!!

Alexis is back. She’s dueling for her brother memory. I love seeing her shine finally

Titan is a real shadow duelist now and Alexis is surrounded by darkness so she can’t see his field which is a nice gimmick

We are in episode 41 and it’s Alexis’s first Shadow duel. I love all the Jaden content but can we let the other cast members do something??

Atticus reaching for Alexis because they can’t see her as Jaden supports him. Very sweet.

Alexis don’t just give up. Thank you for calling out Atticus. Love the sibling dynamics

The shadow creatures that come to eat him are super disturbing and the kids all just watched that and were like ya that just happened… moving on.

They bing up the other missing students in season 4 right. Because like Atticus just said he went with several students but he’s to only one backs

Also the reveal that Professor banner is in on the madness is a great reveal.

I will say this episode is another on that really highlights the differences between GX and DM.

In DM when the gang couldn’t see Yugi’s duel against Pegasus they used their ‘power of friendship’ to protect Yugi from Pegasus shadow magic. Which is silly but like at least they did something. The Gx cast will just stand there and make witty banter or talk crap. About Jaden about the opponent.

In battle city when Mai and Joey had their shadow games Yugi/Atem did everything they could to be present and supportive. Atem even used his own body to block the blast from hitting Mai and Joey. so to see Alexis in a dark bubble and all of the cast just standing there like ‘well wait this out.’ Is a super different vibe. There isn’t a lot they could do but they are also not really trying anything. Tristian ran into the shadow bubble to try and get to Yugi.

It’s just different which is a good and bad things.

The bonds in Gx just aren’t as strong as the DM cast of the 5Ds cast. Like it’s no wonder season 3 happens.

I am happy that someone beside Jaden finally fought and won against the shadow riders. Way to go Chazz and Alexis

The real reason he’s not sexist or homophobic is that he doesn’t care about anyone beyond their intelligence, capability with tech/what they can contribute to KaibaCorp, and their dueling skill. And if you manage to get him to care about you as a person then your attributes probably don’t really matter. (But he probably won’t care about you because you’re not Mokuba or Atem).

Please do not revoke my Jounouchi stan card for this but I want to talk about how sexist Jounouchi actually is early on. This is the second time he’s yelled at Anzu in what must have been the span of a couple hours at most (and the first time, it was because she’s a girl and didn’t pack them all food. Big yikes). Why does he think the attack didn’t work?? He certainly doesn’t have a better explanation than Anzu, because she’s right! I guess he feels she’s not supporting Yugi enough? Maybe he thinks there was a technical malfunction and Anzu’s being stupid for Believing In The Heart Of The Cards? (I’m kidding, that’s not really a thing in the manga.) Anyway, he still has no right (or reason) to yell at her.

So yeah, Jounouchi obviously learned to talk to people like this from his dad (and especially to women? possibly?), and maybe from the other guys when he was in a gang, too. He’s casually called Anzu a moron before (for not thinking there’s a secret celebrity at their high school--although I’m not sure if he specifically calls her a moron in the Japanese or if that’s how they’re translating the rude way he talks?) He also yells at Anzu in the most baffling way during Death-T, basically for being too stupid to “figure out what’s going on.” (She should have assumed her new job at a theme park was actually a huge murder plot?? And then he doesn’t even tell her what’s happening! He literally just tells her she’s dumb!)

We all know the three boys (Ryou abstaining) have a “Helloooo, Nurse!” reaction to seeing Mai, but Jou’s pretty hostile to her, too (there are more shots of him looking angry at her, even before she challenges him). But I think it’s not a coincidence that Anzu is the “mom friend,” and Jou loses his temper with her like this more than anyone else and certainly more than their other friends (like Honda will directly friend-insult him and still won’t get a reaction like this most of the time). (Okay and beyond her being the only girl character consistently present but we're going for in-universe explanations here.) He’s had a lot to deal with, what with his mom leaving him and the ways his dad did and didn’t raise him; and at this point, he’s still got a long way to go with the way he feels about women and the way he talks to and about them. 

I think that’s part of what makes Yu-Gi-Oh! great, though. Jounouchi wouldn’t have as much of an arc if he didn’t have all this buried deep down and it didn’t explode to the surface sometimes. He didn’t become Yugi’s friend and have all his problems suddenly solved. He’s still struggling and learning and getting better. And honestly the way deeply flawed individuals (like Kaiba, too) are depicted as worthy of friendship and love is one of the best themes going, right?

What made you ship it?

I grew up with the dub and I saw a lot of the early episodes like their “date.” She had a really obvious crush on him and I liked how awkward but gentlemanly he was toward her always.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I like how selfless her love for him is. At the beginning of the story she does have some selfish moments, such as when she tried to lure him out by putting herself in danger that one time (not her best moment but she was a teenaged girl experiencing her first crush and she never did it again) but then throughout the story she just shows such loyalty to him, she cares enough to want to learn about his past identity, she treats him like if he’s his own person, and she is willing to let him go as long as he’s happy. He is also very encouraging and sweet to her despite not always understanding her. I like the tragedy of the ship, knowing that within the story as it was they couldn’t really be together. I also like how Atem and Anzu are very opposite personalities (he’s more ruthless and driven by ego while she is more soft-hearted and maternal) - this is shown during the scene when they’re each giving Yugi opposite advice about how to handle Kaiba when during that one duel. 

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Hmm...well there always seems to be this running “joke” in fandom that Atem is gay and/or hates Anzu and other girls. It’s inaccurate and kind of sexist. There’s nothing to suggest he is annoyed by them and doesn’t like them. There simply aren’t many female characters in the series and romance is the last thing on his mind because he has major issues to deal with. He shows tons of respect for Anzu, doesn’t object to her touching him and in the early parts of the manga he even blushed around her. He was awkward on their date but I’m sure most people would be if they were a spirit frozen for thousands of years and suddenly thrown into such a weird situation lol.

A few months ago I typed up some comments about the anime-only scene between Otogi and Honda on the blimp. Found here.

Well... now I'm here to talk about what happened before that scene. Because I read so much more into it.

Let's take a walk.

Please keep in mind that a great deal of this speculation comes from the belief that, despite Mr. Clown not being seen in the anime, he still exists and his relationship to his son is very similar. Also please keep in mind that this is all speculation from someone who has spent waaaayyyy too much time looking into everything Ryuji Otogi says/ does.

We join our heroes shortly after Yugi's Duel with Bakura. Ryou has fallen unconscious and the stab wound he sustained earlier has re-opened (unless you're watching the dub where blood doesn't exist.)

Otogi's first line comes after Shizuka has asked Kaiba to land the plane, and the camera cuts to her making a pose that demonstrates both uncertainty and discomfort. Kaiba stares at her and Honda and Otogi both get between them... to Honda's annoyance.

More on this in a second.

Kaiba ignores this and turns his attention back to Jonouchi and Yugi, telling them that it was Bakura's choice to Duel and that he will not be held responsible for the repercussions of another's mistake.

This causes Shizuka to shout (probably for the first time in her life.)

Otogi makes this face. Personally, I think it looks like a combination of surprise and concern. But why would he be concerned?

Because Shizuka is a lot younger, a lot smaller, and a lot less powerful (both physically and financially) than Seto Kaiba.

He is fearful of what Kaiba will do in retaliation, ans so.

He gets between Shizuka and Kaiba in hopes of transferring whatever Kaiba's about to do to him instead of her.

Because Ryuji Otogi is an abuse victim that knows what happens when you challenge someone bigger and more powerful than you. They put you back in your place.

Also Honda continues to not like this. Otogi is cutting him off each time he tries to speak, and while this could be seen as Otogi trying to one up Honda (and the dub absolutely took it that way) I can see it taken a number of ways. There's a chance he's trying to team up with Honda and hope that Kaiba won't start anything if it's two against one. It could also be that Otogi's not paying a lot of attention to Honda. He does see Shizuka and start moving in front of her before Honda moves into the frame the second time.

Going on a small tangent here but...

Keep in mind, Otogi stepped into a fight against four other guys and got himself involved in the fight against a cult to protect Honda and Shizuka. Sure, you can say that he did that to have a chance with her, but that's a lot of risk to have a chance with a girl he knows nothing about... especially for a guy who could have any number of girls with minimal effort. He will also shortly after this put up his own body as a gamble to protect Shizuka from a creepy old man that wants to wear her body like a suit. Personally, I don't think Otogi has any romantic feelings towards Shizuka at all, since each time they interact, he isn't so much flirting as he is trying to protect her. He treats Rebecca in a very similar way when he joins the duel between her and Varon under the assumption that Mai is also dueling, and that Rebecca will be outnumbered (and the correct assumption that a 12-year-old is about to pick a fight with a cult member who has the power to steal her soul. I've heard critiques that Otogi is very sexist because he won't let Rebecca nor Shizuka fight their own battles, which, yes, that's one way to take it... or you can take it as him stepping in when people significantly younger than even he is (Shizuka is 13) are put into incredible danger.)

That was lengthier than I meant for it to be, I'm sorry, back to the actual post.

So, despite everyone's best attempts, Kaiba's not landing this plane. Now get out.

Shizuka makes this face as they leave.

She's not having a good time.

Again Honda tries to talk to Shizuka and again Otogi cuts him off. He also grabs her hands and makes a very dramatic show of himself.

He makes this ridiculous face (that the dub skips because right after it, Shizuka blushes, and the dub really wants to portray Duke as the bad option in this love triangle. So we can't let it be known that she's happy he's doing this.)

This. This is not a face you use when you're trying to be suave and impress a girl. Heck, this is not a face we'll ever see him use again. We've seen him be suave and flirtatious, we know what it looks like, and folks, this ain't it.

To me, he knows he's being ridiculous and over-the-top. That's the point. He's trying to make Shizuka smile or at least stop making that face.

Now... this is where things take a turn.

Disclaimer: This might come across like I don't like Honda. I don't dislike Honda at all! It's just the nature of this scene.

Honda volunteers to go look for the Millennium Ring. Yugi agrees that they should all look. Honda says no, Jonouchi and Yugi should focus on their duels.

We cut to Otogi (still holding Shizuka's hands, I think she's okay now buddy you can stop) and he asks if Shizuka wants to help him search (he does not speak for her like he does in the dub.)

Honda insists Otogi come with him and very forcefully shoves/pushes Otogi away from Shizuka (who does, admittedly, look relieved.) When Otogi tries to protest that this isn't what he wants, Honda grabs his face to silence him.

This is not the first time someone has silenced Otogi by forcefully touching his face.

And this is not the expression of someone who is at all comfortable with the person touching him.

Honda then proceeds to drag a flailing Otogi away from the group while covering his mouth.

Otogi is doing everything in his power to communicate that he does not want this without being able to speak or break the guy's hold around his neck and no one is recognizing this as a sign of distress... or they are and they're just not stopping it. Heck, Jonouchi thinks Honda is being nice.

We can also see in this still that Honda's got a few inches on Otogi. Not a lot, Honda is 5'11 and Otogi is 5'8, but that's a considerable difference when you're intimidated.

Honda drags him to the top of the blimp and, while Otogi is looking about the blimp for the ring (what Honda claimed they were going up here to do) Honda stays still. Directly in front of the door. Blocking Otogi from being able to get away. (I can't post any more images in this post I'll have to rely on hyperlinks now.)

Otogi can't get away and he's been pulled away from the group. He is very aware this guy has a problem with him and can very easily overpower him.

So Otogi does what I've dubbed activates smug mode.

I'm going to make another post elaborating on activate smug mode (this one's long enough as it is) but, basically, Otogi only acts this way when he's trying to get the better of someone or when he's feeling threatened. He is also incredibly smug when he approaches his father to tell him that he lost to Yugi, knowing full well how his father will react to that news. It's a defense mechanism. Honda's taller and stronger than Otogi, all Otogi can really do is badmouth him and make him feel smaller in hopes that that will make Honda back off.

He then makes this pose.

I'm no body language specialist, but I worked as a counselor at a battered women's shelter for a while, so I was taught a few things.

1. He turns to his side. When you're intimidated by someone, you don't face them directly. You tilt your body away to give the illusion of distance, and to keep your vitals out of their direct reach.

2. He folds his arms in front of his stomach. Remember, Shizuka crossed her arms in front of her stomach when she was facing down Kaiba. Otogi is masking it a little by pointing and propping his elbow on his hand, but folding the arms over the chest or stomach remains a typical sign of insecurity/fear.

3. He is clutching his arm. This is something people do during severe bouts of anxiety in an attempt to ground themselves.

In conclusion, yes, Otogi sounds very confident and like he's egging Honda on. He sounds confident. Because that's the only thing he really has over Honda. Honda seems insecure about his appearance when compared to Otogi, thus why he gets deeply irritated whenever Otogi gets close to Shizuka. Otogi taps into that and uses it because it's his only defense in this situation. Maybe Honda will get fed up and leave to go lick his wounded pride.

It doesn't work. They throw hands. Well, Honda throws hands. Otogi stays in a very defensive stance the entire time. Fun fact: Keeping your arms raised close to your face and blocking your chest is one of the main stances in the more defensive based martial art of Tae-Kwon-Do.

In conclusion, my name is Axel and I think about this way, way, waaaay too much. I am of the belief that Otogi is very intimidated by Honda. I was going to attach images here of all the times Honda grabs Otogi's shirt/ threatens to punch him in the face but since I can't attach any more images and hyperlinks are a pain, I'll save it for another post. There are at least five instances.

No, I don't hate/dislike Honda, in fact, I'm pretty sure if Honda knew about Otogi's background, he'd feel terrible. The fact is they're both insecure teenage boys, Otogi because of his home life and Honda because of his family's social status and perhaps his lack of success as a duelist.

And... while I've thought about this scene a lot ever since posting that other post, I never realized how sad it makes me. Otogi's not hiding that he's not okay with being manhandled and dragged off, and his friends just sorta. Let it happen. Again, I don't blame any of them. Both Yugi and Jou have a lot on their minds and they don't seem to notice that this is a problem. Probably because 1. Honda and Jou are very physical/ playfully threatening people, that's just how they are. 2. No one knows about Otogi's homelife. They have no way of knowing he would have issue with any of this. They do it to one another all the time.

I have a lot of feelings.

Gate Keeping | Seto Kaiba x Chubby!Nerdy! Reader

"The meeting is going to be a while" Seto said with a bit of annoyance on his face. He placed a kick peck to (Y/n) cheek then nodded to Mokuba. "There's a game shop not far from here..." Seto explained. "You should check my competition" he held a smug smirk on his face. As if he had much competition. "I'll meet you there when I'm done" he explained.

"Mr. Kaiba, the board members are ready for you sir" a young intern tentatively spoke.

Seto grunted in slight annoyance. "Can't you see I'm busy" he hissed out.

"S-sorry sir"

Seto began to speak when he felt (Y/n)'s hand on his forearm. "It's okay, Seto. We'll see you in a bit. Don't scare the intern" she teased him. Seto scoffed slightly. "Fine. I'll see you then" He walked away casually, a faint blue glow emitted from him. It made him seem almost ethereal if you didn't know that it came from his newest generation of duel disk.

"Let's go, (Y/n)" Mokuba spoke, a small smile on his face. He always liked (Y/n). She made his big brother happy and less cold. At least when she was around. It was nice to have another person who wasn't afraid of his brother. Perhaps that was also why Seto liked her.

"Okay, Moki. Let's see what that store has." She glanced at her phone for the time. "Maybe we can grab a snack too?" Quickly she tapped around for nearby places for lunch and directions to said game store. Her own arm glowed a soft (Favorite color), special made for (Y/n) specifically along side Seto's.

Mokuba nodded in agreement.

The walked out of the tall and newly finished Kaiba Corp building. It was a big deal for Seto to open a new branch of his company. It was much taller than most of the buildings in the city, but (Y/n) kind of liked that it added to the drama of the skyline.

"There's a crepe stand right before the shop" she spoke excitedly. "Does that seem fine?" She cleared her throat slightly. Mokuba nodded. "Sounds great, (Y/n)."

"Right...here" her phone buzzed when they were close. It was a small cart right outside the game shop. Mokuba order his and (Y/n) order hers, paying before entering the store. It was a large store, of course not as large as the one in Kaibaland or in the bottom floor of Kaiba Corp but quite big for a non-Kaiba affiliated store. The both nibble at their treats as they wandered the store.

"Ohhh" (Y/n) spoke as she saw some very beautiful polyhedral dice in a glass case. Not only was she a somewhat talented duelist, she enjoyed the occasional dungeons and dragons. In fact, she liked to dabble in all kinds of games. And comic books. And anime. And literally a bit of everything. Honestly she was quite the nerd. "Those remind me of Seto" she pointed out to Mokuba who approached her. "Blue and silver."

"He'd like them, that's for sure" The young dark haired boy said. "I think I'll get those and the other ones" "How many sets does this make?" Mokuba asked playfully. "Oh...uh" she felt her cheeks start to heat up. "Let's not talk about it." Mokuba laughed as she asked the young teen for the dice she wanted. They continued to shop, accruing a good variety of games and accessories in (Y/n) reusable shopping bag.

"Hey, (Y/n)" Mokuba said. "I'm going to go to the bathroom"

"Okay, Moki. I will be over by the video games" she nodded to a nearby glass container. She finally finished her snack and wandered over, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. Her eyes skimmed all the various games looking for something she hadn't bought or Seto hadn't gotten already, which was honestly harder than playing chess with Seto. Which is very very difficult, to say the least. (Y/n) stared down the glass not even noticing the person who walked up beside her.

"You duel?" A nasely voice came from beside her, practically making her jump out of her skin.

She smiled at the awkward looking guy and nodded. "You could say that." She was only fourth best, just after Joey Wheeler. Which Seto often teased her about but was actively trying to improve her past him.

"Are you any good?" He asked, looking her over expectantly.

"Kind of" she wasn't one to brag.

"Where did you get the new Duel Disk? You don't seem like you'd be that into duel monsters"

"Well, I am" she responded, side stepping slightly. He moved closer. "Well, then who won the duelist kingdom tournament?" He challenged. "You aren't a real duelist if you don't know"

"What? Yugi." She said casual as ever. "He's actually a friend" (Y/n) was getting a bit annoyed. She wasn't sure why but this was common, that was of course before she started dating Seto. It had been a while since "gamers" tried to test her gaming-ness. She was somewhat well known but nothing like Seto or Yugi.

"You are such a bad liar. But it's cute that you're trying" he said snidely.

(Y/n) gave him a look of both surprise and disgust. "No, I even have him on my phone" she pulled out her phone, wrapped in a blue eyes white dragon case. Which angled her sleeve to show the bottom of her duel monsters themed tattoo on her arm. "See?" She held up the phone showing Yugi's name followed by a wizard emoji.

"You could have saved anyone as Yugi." He said annoyed. "If you weren't such a liar you'd be cute. But I think I could make an acception. You could use a nice guy like me in your life"

"No thanks" she responded.

He huffed. "I bet you don't even know what cards Seto Kaiba likes to play with"

(Y/n) chuckled. "Oh, trust me I do" she raised a brow. "You talk about him and it still hasn't clicked?" She rolled her eyes this time. She smiled finding a game she hadn't ever heard of.

"You wouldn't like it. It's got a lot of gore in it and wouldn't be good for noob like you" he pointed out. (Y/n) sighed. "Can you please leave me alone" her eyes noticed Mokuba leave the bathroom and wander to a capsule monster machine around the corner. Again, she adjusted her bag and began to walk towards Mokuba.

The strange guy followed her. "See. You didn't even call the employee to get the game because I know better than you. But at least you have a nice ass!" He continued to try and neg her. "Dude, I know more about games and gaming than you do. I have more skills than you do in your pinky. Now leave me alone. I'm not interested." He went red.

"Yeah right you stupid bitch." That was when Mokuba appeared from around the corner holding multiple gachapons. He looked confused at the aggressive guy, concern began to creep onto his face. "What idiot would want to date you?"

He was fuming. "And who would want to date a sexist, gatekeeper like you" (Y/n) responded, getting very annoyed. "Moki" she said with a sigh. "We should leave and come back"

Mokuba nodded. "Should I call Roland?" He asked, pulling his phone from his pocket.

"No, it's okay Mokuba." She assured, ignoring the guy still getting angry.

"I don't want to fuck a fat cow like you anyways." That one hurt. (Y/n) winced, when she heard a familiar voice.

"What did you say?" Seto said quickly making his way to the section of the store.

"...Seto Kaiba?" He shouted.

"Seto!" Mokuba said relieved.

"Did you just call my girlfriend a cow?"

"Girlfriend? Oh... So that's it. You like douche bags! What a bitch" He said angry again, but his voice cracked.

"What did you just call me? What did you call her?" Seto was very angry. "I'd suggest you leave, before you regret what you say!"

"Bitches always date assholes" he said beginning to walk away.

"At least Seto doesn't call me a bitch and a liar" she yelled after him.

"Fu-" Seto pulled his fist back and punched the guy in the face. He fell onto his ass, whimpering. "I told you to leave" he grumbled out. (Y/n) looked shocked, the girl behind the counter came running. "You can't do that....!" He waved her off, handing her a few hundred dollars. "Don't worry about it. Just get him out of here" her eyes went wide but nodded.

"You gotta go, buddy" she said shooing him out finally.

Seto adjusted his shirt in annoyance. "I should have just skipped that meeting." He was reverting back to normal. At least, less pissed. "Everything that was said could have been put in an email" he leaned forward, kissing (Y/n) on the cheek. "Especially if I knew you were going to be harassed by some dweeb"

She laughed a bit, knowing that it was best to talk about not punching people would be a later talk. "He didn't recognize me and had the nerve to ask me if I knew about Yugi and your deck" (Y/n) explained, her boyfriend laughed walking back to the game cabinet.

"I saw a game we don't have" he stated walking over to point it out. "Or that (favorite card themed) controller" he pointed out. She didn't even get a chance to look at the controllers to notice.

"Hmm..." He was looking over the items again encase he missed anything. (Y/n) gently leaned her head against his shoulder, looking as well still a touch sad about the fat cow comment even if it was from a moron.

"You're beautiful. Don't worry about that guy." His voice was quiet, even though they were now alone as Mokuba went back to the gachapons. He snaked an arm around her. "He was an idiot. You would have been able to beat him in anyone of these games." He kissed her head softly.

"And you aren't that much of asshole" she half laughed, enjoying the gentleness reserved for only her and Moki.

He chuckled. "I'll take that as a compliment" he stated.

Seto grabbed the employee getting the games and purchasing some other items before grabbing Mokuba again.

"Let's go. We have a dinner reservation and then we can practice your technique"

"Seto..."

"Hmm...?"

"You're such a nerd"

Wave Duel Scramble bonus round has Kaiba refer to the player as “he” even when you’re playing as a female duelist. Kaiba and/or the Duel Links devs confirmed rudely and presumptively sexist

I dont understand why wishshipping isnt more popular, like honestly it has the most shippy moments in canon and theres even literally a scene where yugi says "joey i love you" and the anime dub cut it but the manga dub kept it and there was even an interview with the dubber talking about how the line absolutely definately was a thing that really existed in japanese and how important it was to keep it in the translation. Like in context its supposed to be a probably platonic "youre my most important person" thing but the language used is something very close to a romantic confession in japanese even if it wasnt intended to be one. And the early chapters actually had A LOT of moments of like..outright gay jokes about joey and yugi. Again, this is a series that doesnt exactly have ant positive lgbt rep and is terrible and sexist with its straight romance so its VERY unlikely they were canonically meant to be bisexual and canonically having shipping BUT there are a lot of moments that are huge shipping potential AND even literal 'lol look he gay' dialogue. Just like..in a negative 'funny' sense.

And just seriously yugi is so important to jonouchi, the anime cut down their backstory a lot but it was REALLY EMOTIONAL in the manga! Jounouchi used to be a sort of nihilistic bully who just did whatever he wanted because he needed to find some form of fun/outlet for his anger to deal with living in poverty, never seeing his sister, and his dad being an abusive parent. And him and yugi met when jou outright bullied yugi, it was so friggin uncomfortable and sad to be thrown into that as a first chapter when i was so used to him being such a supportive friend. He was just an immature bastard who made fun of the 'weird kid' and said it was because he couldnt stand looking at someone who seemed like..sensitive and honest about his feelings. It was a surprisingly complex motivation for how a not actually very bad dude would become a bully to a dude he like..actually admired and was jealous of, and he was just so wrapped up in his own pain without the words to really articulate why he felt that way. He felt like a 'real man' should be silent aboyt his feelings and never ask for help, and that friendship between men could only ever be non-emotional assholeness where you have to be the biggest jerk and do bullshit together and if you ever show a moment of weakness everyone will leave you. So we have this situation of yugi himself feeling like he's a wimp but to jou he looks like the biggest fuckin badass for being honest about his real self and being able to step outside toxic masculinity even if it means being alone. And it was just so goddamn emotional how the friendship started?? Like jounouchi was just being an immature petty sort of bully but then a more physically abusive bully comes along and attacks yugi, and jou gets attacked by the same guy in the process and theres SUCH A GOOD MOMENT!! Where jou sees yugi and is like "so youre working with this guy? So you sent him to get revenge on us right??" like he's so ready to believe that yugi is really just as bitter and petty as he is BUT also he sounds so outraged and betrayed about it, like he feels he was tricked into believing that good people actually exist. But then yugi runs forward and starts treating his wounds because of course he wasnt actually involved in it. And even more than that, he stands up to this dude who's ten times taller than him and even managed to defeat jounouchi! And he says its because jounouchi is his friend and he "wasnt bullying, he was just teaching me to be a real man". And HOLY SHIT the look on jou's face when he says that! Like he never even considered the sort of awful influence he could be causing on this poor dude's mental health by gaslighting him into thinking 'this is just how men are'. Like he'd got this image all twisted in his head of yugi being some spiteful taunting figure who's always 100% unswayable in his kindness and must only be that way because he doesnt have any real problems or something. And now he's faced with the reality that this dude's kindness is 100% real, so real that he'd risk his own safety to help someone who's been so cruel to him because he saw a spark of goodness in jounouchi's heart that jounouchi himself never saw. And the only thing that could shake that kindness was jounouchi's own words..he had to face how his 'harmless fun' was having consequences and how he came so close to crushing this dude's will and turning him into a bitter bastard just like him and it was BY BEING FRIENDS! the bullying wasnt even the worst part it was the dangling friendship over his head and promising youd care about him if he just jumped through all these hoops to become a hardenened 'real man'. Another hardened 'real man' who was really just a soft genuine man who'd been broken and learned to hide himself.

So yeah jounouchi gets a great redemption early on, and a lot of chapters dedicated to examining it in detail, showing his abusive father and the toxic friends who influenced him into being a toxic friend himself, and how some of them (tristan/honda) were also good people who were redeemable while others (the goddamn terrifying yo-yo gang guy) were straight up criminals that yugi fuckin knife fights to save him from. Theres a scene of jounouchi getting tazed and having glass thrown in his eyes and yugi + yami fuckin defeat a whole damn gang in the most badass way and then yugi embraces jou's unconcious body and he wakes up in his arms and screams his name in relief while hugging him as hard as he can with his partially paralyzed arms like HOLY SHIT TJAT WAS SO INTENSE

And seriously their friendship is already awesome cos jounouchi is a lot more openly affectionate and cuddly than most friendships between dudes in this series. (Hence the gay jokes in the manga...) But having the context of his first manga chapter makes it even sweeter because he used to be such a heavily repressed super macho man who feared even HAVING FRIENDS AT ALL despite desperately wanting them. It just feels like yugi sorta.. saved him?? Helped him recover from that and become more open with his true self. Its so nice to see him gradually becoming more adorable and cuddly as the series progresses, when the absence of that sort of stuff was his biggest problem causing his goddamn depression. And yugi even helps him reunite with his sister and be able to help her get surgery! Is it any wonder that jou is yugi's biggest cheerleader? Seriously when so much of the show seems to sideline yugi and focus on yami later on, its good to have this one dude reminding us that yugi rocks and specifically yugi's 'wimpyness' is actually a good thing nd his strongest strength and seriously!! Just!! Its so good!! Gahh, joey is a big buff scary dude who sees this sweet dude as THE BIGGEST BADASS who SAVED HIS GODDAMN LIFE and HIS MENTOR IN BECOMING SOFT ALSO! Jou has so much fuckin character development that was lost by shortening down this part of the story and only showing it in flashback form a bunch of episodes after the beginning instead of BEING the beginning yknow??

So yeah seriously this entire character arc is so good and this is why jounouchi is the best character and deserved to keep that kind of focus in the series instead of being degraded to more.of a comic relief role. And also this is why thier relationship has such a great foundation and could be even more resonant if it was romantic! Like srsly theres so many parallels here with the idea of a closeted dude that THE MANGA OUTRIGHT MAKES GAY JOKES ABOUT HIM ALREADY

Oh also the manga backstory also adds more nuance to jounouchi and kaiba's relationship because you could see it as jou becoming rivals with kaiba because he sees him as a mirror of the kind of repressed asshole he once used to be. Which is another reason why gay/bi/pan jounouchi just fuckin enhances everything about his entire plot and also the whole series ok yes.

Seto has won his duel, Mokuba is delighted. Maybe too delighted...

Since Mokubas are not available to purchase wholesale, retail, or second-hand, Noah is forced to come up with a complicated plan to win Mokuba’s loyalty ... and then ends up just fucking hypnotising him anyway because fuck everything I guess but I’m getting ahead of myself

NOAH’S TOTALLY AWESOME PLAN TO WIN MOKUBA’S AFFECTION

And he runs off towards a tunnel that just appeared. Yugi calls after him and, rather than ignoring him/them, Seto stops specifically to shout this back at the Nerd Herd:

Jounouchi is agitated enough to grow two additional vestigial arms at this rudeness...

Ooh, careful Jounouchi. That strongly implies you have ever worried about Kaiba’s ass....

which is just the worst, like, it’s so fucking awful I can’t come up with jokes about it, it’s all written like it’s sooooo ~*~zAnY~*~ for an older teenage boy to be obsessed with a THIRTEEN YEAR OLD’S nascent boobs and I don’t caaaaaaaare one fucking whit if that’s totally normal in Japan, it’s not fair on young girls to call attention to their bodies, it’s not fair on them to objectify and sexualise their isolated body parts, it’s not fair on them to write jokes into media aimed at their male peers to normalise talking about a girl’s breasts when she’s barely old enough to have them and certainly young enough to still be a child. Seto having run off, Jounouchi is like, good riddance, let’s find a way home. And Yugi’s like NO WAIT FRIENDSHIP and runs after Seto. Anzu immediately follows him, it’s unclear if it’s out of a desire to stay with Yugi or to help Seto. The other three hesitate, Shizuka arguing they should stick with Yugi and Anzu, Jounouchi and Otogi stubbornly saying they won’t follow on Seto’s fool’s errand. Honda doesn’t contribute, despite being well able to talk. 

GOOD FOR YOU, HONEY. This is one of the bravest actions Shizuka takes, and she takes more than many characters do! But usually she’s brave with or for her brother; here she’s brave to stand up to him and potentially leave him behind, cause he’s being an ass and she knows it. The tunnel vanishes before she (and the other two) can get there though so her bravery comes to naught. But hey. I noticed.

In the tunnel, Seto sees visions of Mokuba

that change, via some kind of punk-rocker, to Noah. He runs off, following the visions.

Behind him, Yugi and Anzu arrive at a fork where Seto went right. Yugi stops, but Anzu immediately chooses the left (wrong) fork and sprints off confidently. How does she know?

An answer so logical, she gives it twice!! 

(Maybe I’m just riled up from the Shizuka shit but I think this is unnecessarily sexist. She could have just said “I don’t, but we have to choose one!”, or “it doesn’t matter, it’s a virtual reality anyway!
