Kai Last of the Brunnen G finally gets to the Dream Zone and turns out it's the Dreaming from Sandman. Cesare the Somnambulist is already there. The set is finally complete.

Thanks for the tag @the-radiant-aeryn-sun ! I'm putting it on main instead of weirdpsychoticlife because it looks like it's supposed to be a multi-fandom thing (even if I could fill a list of beloved characters from Farscape alone!).

5 comfort characters
rules: list 5 comfort characters and tag at least 5 people. tagged for this forever ago by: @wanderingaldecaldo. Thanks!! tagging: @wraithsoutlaws @tessa1972 @imaginarycyberpunk2023 @chevvy-yates @gloryride @miss--river @a-pirate and YOU!
I have (of course) way too many blorbos, so going with first 5 (well, 6) that came to mind right now.
Legolas and Gimli. Reading LotR has always been a very bittersweet experience, but none of that profound sadness touches Legolas and Gimli. They are my happy place. And a unit.
Hua Manlou. My absolute favouritest wuxia character, I think. Hua Manlou loves life, loves people, totally *could* kick your ass but probably won't - and he'll tell the Death Incarnate In White (tm) Ximen Chuixue straight to his face "you reek of death, good sir, go smell some flowers". He da best. Way cooler than his bestie Lu Xiaofeng (and Lu Xiaofeng is hella cool).
Krtek. I mean, look at him:

Kai, last of the Brunnen G. I love his entire vibe. My favourite dead person on TV.

I rewatched some of LEXX today and I'm still not over the fact that Kai's tragic backstory and the history of his planet was explained through a musical episode that was actually really amazing and beautiful

I wonder if Kai from Lexx was inspired by Cesare from The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari.
Similarities:
Assassins controlled by the main villain
Are stored in a box most of the time and only wake up to do a job
Villain loses control of them eventually ( happens early on with Kai. Cesare is a bit more subtle- he was meant to kill the girl but can't do it and abducts her instead)
Not fully aware of their actions when working as an assassin
Black hair, pale face, tight black clothing, handsome
Have a harmless "real world" counterpart (harmless psychiatric patient and eccentric actor)
One of the villains has a scientific interest in them
Are somewhere inbetween life and death ( Cesare is technically alive but sleeps in a coffin-like box most of the time, Kai is undead)
Both are shown contemplating flowers & looking pretty at some point
Both live in a weird stylised universe with weird stylised sets
die in the end (okay, so Cesare turns out to be alive in the twist ending, therefore I can pretend Kai is too😏😝)
Thanks for listening to my TED talk

Quote
I am Kai, last of the Brunnen-G. Millennia ago, the Brunnen-G led humanity to victory in the war against the Insect civilization. The Time Prophet predicted that I would be the one to destroy the Divine Order and the League of 20,000 Planets. Someday, that will happen… but not today, as today is my day of death. The day our story begins.

I've, appallingly, never seen Brigadoon.
What I have seen, and will forever colour my perception of Brigadoon, is Brigadoom.
Brigadoom is an episode of Lexx, in which a sort of theatre troupe perform a musical about the life, death and undeath of Kai, last of the Brunnen-G. I love it to bits.
youtube
On March 13th 1947  The classic Lerner and Loewe, Broadway musical “Brigadoon” opened at the Ziegfeld in New York.
Tumblr media
The definition you will most find online for Brigadoon is “a place that is idyllic, unaffected by time, or remote from reality” This could cover a multitude of places in Scotland!  Here is the story about the musicals beginnings.
Tumblr media
Lerner denied this in his memoirs, but you have to say that the tale sounds very similar, in part to a German story Germelshausen from 1860 by Friedrich Gerstäcker concerning a cursed village that sank into the earth long ago and is permitted to appear for only one day every century. The main character, Arnold is lost, encounters, and becomes smitten with, a young woman Gertrud from Germelshausen. The romantic tale ends with his leaving the vicinity just in time to avoid being entombed with the village.
Tumblr media
In The Lerner and Loewe Musical, two American tourists in  Scotland happen upon a mysterious village in which the people dress and speak as if from another era. One of the Americans is drawn to one of the Scottish lasses and must choose between the magical Brigadoon and his conventional fiancée back in New York.
Anyway, make your own conclusions on that, the Broadway musical ran for 581 performances, garnered many awards, and of course has played at many venues throughout the world in the intervening years and of the is the film Brigadoon followed in 1954 starring Gene Kelly, Van Johnson, and Cyd Charisse. There was also a 1966 television film starring among others Peter Falk
The original film was nominated for three Academy Awards in 1955 but failed to pick up any, the TV version faired better  picking up five Primetime Emmy Awards.

"I've killed mothers with their babies. I've killed great philosophers, proud young warriors, and revolutionaries. I've killed the evil, the good, the intelligent, the weak, and the beautiful. I have done this in the service of His Divine Shadow and his predecessors, and I have never once shown any mercy."
