HOLLIS, Okla. (KSWO) - Authorities in Harmon County are continuing to investigate an incident over the weekend which involved a possible human smuggling operation.
According to a social media post by the Hollis Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 62 when around a dozen men fled from the scene. The post told residents to be on the lookout for 10-12 Hispanic males but was later updated to say 10 had been taken into custody but there were possibly six still on the run.
Police said in the post they believed the men were illegal immigrants on their way to Tennessee.
On Monday, we spoke with law enforcement officials in Hollis who said the investigation had been turned over to the District 3 Drug and Violent Crime Task Force based in Altus.
They also say while an incident like this puts a strain on law enforcement in Harmon County, it is no different from any other day for the five member police force in Hollis or the sole member of the Harmon County Sheriffâs Department who are tasked with covering the entire county.
The undersheriff, who is has been left as the only member of the department after the sheriff resigned today, says he has to rely on help from Hollis PD and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol to cover the county.
None of the men we spoke to said they had ever seen an incident like this in their county.
We also contacted the District 3 Task Force based in the District Attorneyâs office in Altus and they said they had no comment on the situation do to the ongoing investigation.
There is no word on the status of the men police were looking for over the weekend but in the social media post, they were not believed to be armed or dangerous.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - The family of a man shot and killed in an encounter with police in 2021 are reacting to the recent decision that is calling for the officers return to the Lawton Police Department.
Two separate arbitrators reviewed the firing of Nathan Ronan and Robert Hinkle, who currently face manslaughter charges in the death of Quadry Sanders.
After hearing testimony and reviewing body cam footage, the arbitrators each called for the men to be reinstated onto the police department.
Officials with the City of Lawton expressed displeasure with the arbitration, and said they planned to fight the decision.
Sandersâ family echoed the sentiment, calling the decision a disappointment.
Below is the full statement by the familyâs attorney, Lee Merritt:
Last week City of Lawton officials announced that a panel of arbitrators determined former officers Robert Hinkle and Nathan Ronan should be reinstated to their positions with the Lawton Police Department.
Officers Hinkle and Ronan were terminated and criminally indicted on manslaughter charges for the brutal shooting of unarmed Quadry Sanders. On December 5, 2021, Hinkle and Ronan opened fire on Sanders-- shooting him over 12 times as he desperately attempted to comply with their orders.
National Civil Rights Attorney S. Lee Merritt will host a press conference along with Sandersâ mother, Mina Woods, and other members of the Sanders family. The press conference will take place on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM CST at the Lawton City Hall, 212 SW 9th St, Lawton, OK 73501.
The Sanders family has issued the following statement.
âWe are extremely disappointed in the decision of arbitrators to ratify the criminal actions of the men who murdered Quadry Sanders in cold blood. However, we are relieved and grateful that the City of Lawton is prepared to oppose these unconscionable recommendations by arbitrators.â

Learn How to Be a Good CEO Like Brian Ladin
Many people work hard their entire life & get to a very good position in their careers. However, when they reach the top, many of them fail. What do you think could be the reason behind such failures? Well, most times, the change in attitude of that individual impacts the growth. It not only affected his personal career but also the business that was his responsibility. However, those who fail once in such situations should look up to some personalities who tackled success like a pro. Brian Ladin and his success is the epitome of brilliance. You can learn a lot from him. Stay on the Ground: When people get promoted to the position of CEO, manager, etc., they get on the ninth cloud. And that's where the downfall begins. When you get to a higher position, never forget to stay grounded. You deserve to be happy, but a change in your attitude can make a big difference. Brian Ladin worked in a shipment company for years. But when he started his own shipping company, Delos Shipping, he never unnecessarily flexed about his success. And that was the point where he outperformed. Learn to be like him if you want better results. Never Forget About Your Responsibilities: Maybe you started in a company as a supervisor. But when you make your way up & reach a position like general manager, CEO, or any other, make sure to take care of your responsibilities yourself. You will have people under you who can work on anything you tell them. But if you take care of the most crucial parts, things will improve. For instance, Brian Ladin never forgot about his responsibilities. He still makes calls to potential clients for tie-up or any other purposes. He never misses this part. Moreover, he does this every day. Play Fair: Well, if you are serving in a market, you will have several competitors, rivals, etc. Sometimes, the war between the rivals gets too dirty. But if you play fair throughout the competition, you might not lose at all. There is a probability that you do not get the desired results. But in the long-term, such fair play is going to benefit you all the time. For instance, you will never get into legal issues. Brian Ladin ensured that every operation conducted in Delos Shipping was according to legal constraints. Therefore, he got good results in the long term. Original Source: https://bityl.co/KSWo

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - A Comanche Nation woman is searching for her sister who has gone missing after trying to escape an abusive relationship.
Ruth Salinas has not been seen or heard from since the beginning of June. Her family says she left Logan, Utah to head for Oklahoma City.
Cindy Famero is the Vice president of the state chapter of missing and murdered indigenous people but now she is in need of help finding her own sister.
She says that indigenous people are going missing at alarming rates. So far this year she has had 2 family members go missing, the first was found and now Ruth.Â
âIt always hurts to know that our family members we donât know where they are at but when you know that something has happened to them and you canât get to them or you canât help it is worse because there is always that worry,â said Famero.
She said between Oklahoma and Kansas, there are 5 chapters of Missing and Murdered Indigenous people. Theyâre teaming up tomorrow to trace the route that they believe she took.
âThis is all out of their own pockets so that we can provide services for the family, for us, for searching, anything flyers,â she said.
She said some things are necessary whenever someone is murdered or goes missing.Â
Often times police are unable to do more because of being confined to their own jurisdiction.Â
âThereâs about 624 missing or Murder Indigenous cases open according to OSBI and so for us if we didnât get in out cars and follow the routes that our family we think would have taken it would not get done,â said Famero.Â
She said if you have seen or heard anything that can help them locate Ruth to please contact the FBI or law enforcement in Logan Utah, Lawton, or Oklahoma City.
âWe love her, we want her home, her children want her home, her sisters and other family members want her home and we are going to do everything that we can to bring her home,â she said.
If you are interested in joining the search you can contact one of the chapters of missing and murdered indigenous people through their face book page.

KSWO is the local station covering this judgment. The Oklahoma womanâs name is Brittany Poolaw. The October 5 2021 news article reads:
An autopsy report stated Poolawâs child died at 17 weeks gestation.
The report showed it tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and another drug in the liver and brain.
An OBGYN testified on the stand Tuesday as an expert for the state.
The doctor confirmed the fetus was at the gestational age of about 17 weeks and that methamphetamine use can have an effect on the pregnancy, though he said it may not be the direct cause of death for the fetus.
A nurse and medical examiner both testified to seeing congenital abnormalities on the fetus.
Poolaw was sentenced to four years in prison.
This has been covered in news outlets including Newsweek (quoting the NAPW below) on October 17, 2021; NYT Opinions on October 18, 2021 (paywalled);  and USA Today (reporting on a planned appeal) on October 21, 2021.
The National Advocates for Pregnant Women (NAPW) released an October 13, 2021 statement alleging several judicial problems with the ruling, including that:
Oklahomaâs murder and manslaughter laws do not apply to miscarriages, which are pregnancy losses that occur before 20 weeks, a point in pregnancy before a fetus is viable (able to survive outside of the womb). And, even when applied to later losses, Oklahoma law prohibits prosecution of the âmother of the unborn childâ unless she committed âa crime that caused the death of the unborn child.â [...]Â Not even the medical examinerâs report identifies use of controlled substances as the cause of the miscarriage.
The NAPWâs statement also claims that this ruling is only one out of many:
Ms. Poolawâs case is just one example of the troubling trend we are documenting in Oklahoma that replaces compassion and respect with criminal prosecution. In recent years, Oklahoma prosecutors, especially in Comanche and Kay Counties but also in Craig, Garfield, Jackson, Pontotoc, Payne, Rogers, and Tulsa counties have been using the Stateâs felony child neglect law to police pregnant women and to seek severe penalties for those who experience pregnancy losses.
This happened on Oct. 5 and not one major news source covered it. This is the end goal of the anti-choice movement.
