I don’t typically like when star trek characters reference legacy characters just to talk about how great and perfect they are but I do like this route where even though Tuvok calls him a great visionary in the end he brings Spock up to say he argued with him. I think this is the way of the future. Lean in. Star Trek characters should say things like ‘An old man cut me off in space traffic the other day. I think it was McCoy?’ and another should nod and shake their head like he’s always doing that shit

rightful heir is insane for the Implications. okay so there's this guy who was cloned from leftover DNA of the real kahless (with you so far) but also he's got fuzzy memories of being the real kahless implanted into his brain (?? okay...?) and he was just woken up/brought into existence at the exact moment the priest guys needed him to appear (when worf shows up, the main character of klingons) so this is really his first moment of being a person and he's In It, he's ready to GO right away. no learning how to walk, no confusion, no "hey guys what's been going on since i died", and he's ready to overthrow the current government DAY ONE. nope don't tell him anything, he already knows your chancellor sucks and the klingon spirit is corrupted. and he knows about worf's childhood moses moment where he/kahless appeared to worf to tell him to sparkle on it's worf wednesday my dude (very specific memory) but he can't remember details of his famous stories (are we saying his worf-related memories are real because worf really was the believer who brought his spirit back? mixed in with some good old fashioned priest cloning)
BUT he's a shit fighter. i mean he's not terrible but he's not mythical godlike warrior levels, so he does have some physical adjustment stumbling, but only when pressed. his weakness should have been like. learning how to digest solid food. not advanced combat. i mean don't get me wrong that's a very klingon weakness but it still raises a lot of questions. and kahless 2 has ZERO questions about this whole scheme until he loses to gowron in a fight. if we go with the Implications and assume this is the spirit of the real kahless dropped into his clone's body, the rest of this guy's whole deal is wild!!! he's just vibing! he's having spiritual awakenings certain human religious figures could only dream of achieving. even if we DON'T buy into the true reincarnation aspect, he's still the genetic clone of the klingon people's greatest hero with all the knowledge of the klingon religion in his head. like a factory made condensed klingon heritage all in one guy. which has gotta be a fun time for him (not really). his personality is Honor and his occupation is Faith. and he is technically a BABY.
and then worf is like "look idk if i believe in reincarnation (maybe haha) but i do believe in causing problems, let's see where he's going with this" and makes him a figurehead emperor. and of course by this point 2 fast 2 kahless is starting his "maybe i really am a fake" journey (which should've happened when he first heard someone sneeze and freaked out) so he just goes along with it. anyway. maybe the real kahless was the Implications we didn't fully explore along the way.

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2, Episode 13: A Tribble Called Quest
That tribble is going to give me nightmares.
Finally, we get a Prodigy episode with the Klingons! I love Klingons overall, and Prodigy did the thing that I always wish they did with the species. I'll get into it more in the spoiler section, but this episode did so much more for the Klingon lore than it had to, and I respect that. On top of that, it kept up the streak of still being a Prodigy episode first, and I respect how good this season has been about doing both. 9/10
My big issue with the Klingons is the old fan question. If everyone in the species is so predatory and warlike, how did they ever invent space travel? This episode didn't answer that, but it did have a Klingon scientist, which I think we need more of generally. And K'ruvang bridged the gap in the way that I thought it should be bridged - he treats science as a noble pursuit, and his scientific success is his source of honor just as much as a warrior's physical success is.
This episode also did some fun things with tribbles. The return of Rok's presentation from the start of the season was genius - that was such a good foreshadow now that I know where it was going. I also appreciate that Rok was able to work with someone else who valued scientific success above their own life, and that she was able to bounce off that with her own struggles and need for success. It's not fully in line with the conformism arc that she started this season with, but it's also part of it in an interesting way.
That being said, the Rok-tribble was slightly scary, at least when I first saw it. I didn't have a problem with it in the Netflix menu for some reason, but when it turned around and stared I was a little freaked out. I got used to it, and I like how Rok grew to accept it, but I'm not sure why they took it with them. It's still a tribble, and we know what happens with tribbles on a spaceship.
Rok sneezing on the tribble DNA reminded me of the Rick and Morty episode where they destroyed an entire dimension with a mutated cold virus, and I kept thinking about it now. If I were to compare them and their takes on scientific responsibility, I'd give Prodigy credit for having Rok successfully clean up the mess, but each show was going for a different theme with how they did that particular storyline, and comparing them doesn't seem fair.
I liked Dal thinking on his feet in this episode and Chakotay propping him up. The two of them have great chemistry in this dynamic, and I'm excited to see where it develops.
We're also getting an escalation of the Zero body plot. It makes sense given where we are in the season, something about it just feels like it needed more time. Maybe if it was going on in a different season where the A-plot wasn't a desperate mission to save the multiverse it could have gotten the time it deserved. What they did with it was still good, I just wouldn't have done it here and now.
One other thing about this season that I'm noticing is that it feels like a summation of this era of Trek. It ties in a lot of loose threads from the other Paramount+ shows and links them back to the older shows, on top of involving and expanding those characters' plotlines into a single cohesive story. It's like this show was trying to be the finale of the era, and I'm not sure where that element of it is leading to. I've been pretty cynical about any Trek getting renewed since Paramount tried to kill this season, and it's interesting that the show itself feels like it's trying to go down swinging.

DS9 4x25 Broken Link thoughts (I’m re-watching, so beware spoilers for future episodes!) [8 Sept ‘23]
Garak being a matchmaker is everything :3
"You don't know enough about changeling physiology to diagnose what's wrong with me. No one does." XD Usually this is right but then Julian coming in with his "Actually, I do have some idea what's going on." AMAZING 😂
The crew betting on Kira's sneezing is hilarious. XD
"It is not an act, he told me so himself." Oh Worf 😂
"Captain, was Dax's last host as argumentative as this one?" Lol XD
"Doctor, I think we both know where I have to go." "I was hoping it wouldn't come to that." Ohhh <3
"Sir, if Garak is asking to come in board I'm sure he has good reason." JULIAN oh my goodness XD he really does just trust Garak with his whole heart, doesn't he?
Quark coming to see Odo off.
"I'll be back before you know it, making your life miserable." "Then you are coming back" "Count on it" "I will." Given this episode started with a romantic overture...
"I'm thinking of asking Julian to come live with us even things up a little." I WANT THIS AU SO BAD
"Sir--" "Not now, Mr Worf." Yeah we all knew he wanted to object
"Odo is my patient." I ALWAYS love how die-hard Bashir is about protecting his patients from everyone else
"You may go in now, doctor." "Thank you." He's so sarcastic. I love him
"They're dead. You're dead, Cardassia is dead. Your people were doomed the moment they attacked us. I believe that answers your question." "It's been a pleasure meeting you." And that's the moment Garak decides to genocide?
The way Julian looks at Sisko for reassurance after Odo disappears :3
JULIAN'S A DUMBASS. He was really about to throw a rock into the Link??? Sisko's little head tilt like 'why is this a thing I have to tell him not to do?'
"Don't tell me you'd object to a little genocide in the name of self-defence?" Oh, Garak, smh...
"Oh, poor Odo. Perhaps we should have killed you. It would have been far less cruel." Wow. Alright then.
"Yes but my heart was in the right place." 😂 Garak I CANNOT
"I'm saying that he's one of them. Gowron, the head of the Klingon Empire, is a changeling." SUCH a strong ending, POWERFUL. Nice one, season 4!

Love the blog! Could you please help me find the Klingon equivalent for whatever you say when someone sneezes (sorry if you’ve already done this one before). I have been slowly learning to incorporate Klingon into my daily usages (like thank you for the pet commands on your blog! I’ve been using them to train my cat and I get to practice Klingon even when I don’t have time to learn it properly!)
I was going to save it for the verb suffix -Qo’ don’t!, won’t but as you asked nicely ...
You’ve already seen the verb ngej infect (v) in an earlier blog post (covering -choH iirc). It’s remarkably easy to construct the saying HIngejQo’! from this.
HIngejQo’ Don’t infect me!
Maybe spice it up with my favourite adverbial jay’ -
HIngejQo’ jay’ Don’t you fucking infect me!

delight of my day was watching this star trek episode and worf said he was going to sneeze and geordi asked if it would be a klingon sneeze and worf was like that's the only kind I've got boss and then every time he sneezed the subtitles specifically said [KLINGON SNEEZE]

My FAVORITE gag is Worf and Geordi at the helm, and goes something like,
Worf: I think I'm going to sneeze
Geordi: A Klingon sneeze?
Worf: Only kind I know
And the comedic genius of this joke. I'm beside myself. Either he's serious, and thinks that sneezes are something one learns, or (more likely) he's poking at Geordi's stupid question. And Dorn's deadpan delivery just, UGH
Comedy is my absolute favorite genre of entertainment. Probably mostly television, but generally any type of comedic medium. With that being said, I feel like Michael Dorn as Worf is a criminally underrated straight man comedian. All of us people obsessed with Star Trek know, but everyone else is missing out.

So normally the subtitles on Netflix are adequate but not great, however I’ve just seen something that pushes them a bit further towards great:

Bless you Netflix. And bless you Worf.

Man I'm like cruising through TNG tonight and. Just finished the one with the matriarchal police state and everyone getting sick, and. I hope whoever kept captioning Worf's sneezes as "*Klingon sneeze*" instead of just "*Sneezing*" after the whole "A Klingon sneeze?" "Only kind I know" exchange got a bonus and an ice cream. Thank you for your service subtitler <3
