Messiah Or Manipulator?: Escaping the Grip of Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church (Cult Documentary)
Ever wondered what goes on behind closed doors in a cult? Join us as we uncover the truth behind Reverend Moon’s charismatic persona and the devoted followers who see him as nothing short of a Messiah. Through firsthand accounts from former members, you’ll get an inside look at how the Unification Church operates, from its intense indoctrination methods to its control over every aspect of its members’ lives, including their marriages.
From Reverend Moon’s early days claiming clairvoyance to his encounters with religious figures, we’ll trace the origins of the Unification Church and its rise to prominence in South Korea in the 1950s.
But it’s not all spiritual enlightenment – we’ll also shine a light on the darker side of Reverend Moon’s empire, from his controversial support for politicians like Richard Nixon to his brushes with the law over tax evasion [perjury and document forgery].

5:00 Moon was arrested in Pyongyang, North Korea, in 1946 for adultery, extorting money and disturbing society. He was arrested and jailed in February 1948 for bigamy. Moon went to North Korea in 1946, when it was under a communist regime. According to Michael Breen and others Moon was sympathetic to Marxist ideas. A study of the Divine Principle reveals embedded Marxist concepts. The false narrative that Moon was spying for South Korea, when he hated Syngman Rhee, the president, is pure smokescreen hokum. Moon was arrested for sex.
6:00 Moon's first wife, Sun-gil Choi, divorced him in January 1957, not 1960.
6:40 Note the Bible says that Adam and Eve were married before the “Fall” so a sexual interpretation is just a means of manipulating people. It has no truth in myth or reality.
42:00 Rick Alan Ross: “run by another generation” Hak Ja Han controls the main organization, the FFWPU, with herself being the Only Begotten Daughter of God who saved Sun Myung Moon from sin through their rituals during their 1960 marriage.

Hagiwara Ryo: “Sun Myung Moon was first arrested by the security police on August 11, 1946. He was detained for three months at the Daedong police station [in Pyongyang] on the charge of causing social disorder, for alleged sexual immorality. On February 22, 1948 Sun Myung Moon was arrested for a second time by the 内務省 Ministry of the Interior [not 内務署 the Interior Department] for his coerced marriage with a married woman, Mrs Kim Chong-hwa. On April 27 he was sentenced to five years in Heungnam prison.”
The Life of Sun Myung Moon – the Messiah of a Perverted Sex Religion (1991) page 70   LINK

K. Gordon Neufeld in 1999:
I once made a point of reviewing old newspaper articles from the New
York Times from 1976 and 1977, when the scandal involving Bo Hi Pak and
the alleged payoffs to congressman (especially through the agency of
Tongsun Park, not a Unification Church member) first broke. I may post
some of those old articles. They reveal that in the late 70s, it was
well known that Bo Hi Pak was involved with the KCIA. One reporter who
was more recently looking into Moon's involvement with a Russian ballet
troupe told me that Bo Hi Pak admitted to him that he was/is a KCIA
agent. Yet I have a copy of an article from the Times in 1976 where Pak
denies the connection.
I have at times wondered if Pak was the real power behind the throne, and if the entire Unification Church was not in fact a KCIA plot from the get-go. However, there are several things that make this doubtful. It is far more likely that the KCIA backed Moon merely because they felt he could be useful, but they were never able to fully control him. As such, Pak may have been the crucial link between Moon and the KCIA, and when Moon felt he could safely get away with it, he dispatched Pak through the bizarre agency of the falsely resurrected Heung Hin Moon. As far as I know, Pak has never been as prominent since. Yet for Pak to have submitted to the beating he received from the Zimbabwe pretender, he would have had to have been a believer - or could there be another explanation? Could it be that Pak felt he had to put up with it for some reason that is even more compelling, such as fear of Moon or others doing even worse to him, or fear of his KCIA buddies back in Korea? The man is a mystery.

Now available as an Amazon Kindle e-book:  The Fifteenth Anniversary Edition of my cult memoir.  The new edition, which will be released as a series in 4 parts, brings readers up to date on what has happened in my life since the original version was published in 2002.  The new version also reverses some editing changes I made in 2002, by putting the text back to the version I had in 2001, where, for example, the section on Mind Control on the Boonville Farm was actually part of the chapter describing my recruitment and conversion, and not a separate section at the end of the book, as it appears in the 2002 version.

Tumblr media
Reelz is a US digital cable and satellite television network LINK
September premieres begin with back-to-back Cult of Personality specials starting with Moonies: Cult of Personality on Wednesday, September 2 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT.
Reverend Moon and the Moonies They are told that they are on a mission to save humanity. But in reality, they are just building a multi-million empire for their Messiah. He is Sun Myung Moon, the all powerful Reverend of the Unification Church. At the RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, over 28,000 couples are about to get married. This massive ceremony is presided over by Reverend Sun Myung Moon and his wife. These couples are members of Moon's Unification Church. The vast majority of them never dated their future spouse, many seeing each other for the first time right at the ceremony. They were matched by Reverend Moon himself, but they are willing to accept their messiah's choice regarding the person they are going to share the rest of their lives with. This is the pinnacle of their longtime dedication to the Unification Church, which included handling all their possessions and sacrificing many of their liberties for the movement. Calling themselves Moonies, they are convinced that they are on a divine mission to change the World and unite mankind under one single faith. They become active fundraisers for their cause. But in reality they are helping Sun Myung Moon to finance his multi-million enterprises. Who was this man that they allowed to control their existence? In this episode, the first hand experiences of ex-Moonies K. Gordon Neufeld, Yolande Brener, Lisa Kohn and Mary Jo Downey, with the analysis of cult specialist Rick Ross tells us about the other side of Reverend Sun Myung Moon and his Unification Church, serving as a warning for many susceptible people to the dangers of joining deceitful movements.

the tingling sensation where wood had met flesh
Tumblr media
A special ceremony performed after the ‘Holy Blessing’ mass marriages in the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification.
“…in the Indemnity Ceremony, each couple bestowed a symbolic beating to their partner. After listening to a speech detailing how we were to forget our past history with, and resentment toward, the opposite sex, we lined up two by two with several hundred members of the North American camp, in one of the concrete meeting rooms. We dressed casually in jeans and T-shirts. A few members arrived wearing short shorts and leather pants.
“The more you love your partner, the harder you will hit,” our Central Figure said. “Just imagine your spouse is a big baby.”
A three-hundred-pound brother beside us turned to his petite Japanese wife.”A VERY big baby!” he laughed.
When we reached the front, a Korean brother handed Gabriel a wooden baseball bat, watched while he whacked me three times on the backside, then handed the bat to me. We bent over to receive our blows, and were advised to hit our partner only on the buttocks and upper thighs. After this, my only physical contact with a man for over two years, I lay on my stomach on my sleeping bag, concentrating on the tingling sensation where wood had met flesh.”
Yolande Brener

Yolande’s book:
Holy Candy: Why I Joined A Cult And Married A Stranger (2014) What is the purpose of life? Is there a spiritual world? Does true love exist? If there is a God, why does he allow innocents to suffer? The desire to find answers to these questions – passed to her on a business card – led Yolande Brener to enter a bizarre, 15-year odyssey in a cult that would climax in her participation in one of the largest mass marriages in history. In HOLY CANDY, Yolande Brener pulls back the curtain on the church’s doings – but this is far from a simple black and white exposé. It is spooky, riveting, and utterly believable…
