There was nothing like a drive by the beach. Especially when you had the convertible top down. The salty wind in your hair and the sun warming your face. You were completely at peace in this moment.

“Hey, don’t fall asleep on me now.” Jyuto’s voice cut above the music that was playing on the radio.

You opened your eyes to see him glancing at you with a bright smile on his face. You returned it before saying, “I’m not falling asleep. I’m just enjoying the moment.”

“Is that why you’re snoring?” He teased, poking your thigh while his other hand remained on top of the steering wheel as he drove.

Rolling your eyes, you scoffed, “I was not snoring.”

“Sure you weren’t.” He continued, though he wasn’t poking you anymore and had instead returned to drawing random shapes on your leg.

“I wasn’t.” You mumbled, leaning back into your seat and closing your eyes again.

“Before you drift off again, do you want to go to the beach first or the boardwalk?” Jyuto asked.

You shrugged. “Start with the boardwalk and then make our way to the beach, then have dinner on the boardwalk before going back to the hotel.”

“Well you seemed to have this vacation pretty much planned out.” He teased again.

With a smirk, you informed him, “Well someone has to.”

“Are you saying I don’t have plans?”

“Do you?”

“I do!” Jyuto defended himself. “I made special reservations tonight for dinner.”

You hummed in contentment. “Sounds wonderful. I’ll be looking forward to it then.”

“Yes, but for now, just sit back and enjoy the ride.” He cooed as you continued down the road, the music from the radio mingling with the crash of waves upon the shore. Yes, everything was absolutely perfect.

a/n: i wanted to post something short yet sweet for valentine's day, so i decided to write some headcanons about gifting the boys chocolates!! this is kinda based off the tradition in japan where girls usually give the guys obligatory (as the name suggests) or homemade (suggests that you have feelings for them) chocolate and they return the favor on march 14 or white day. reader is gender neutral, ofc. and i decided to split this up into three parts to make it easier to read, but every boy will be given a chance nonetheless! hope everyone enjoys 💕

ichiro

it comes as a welcome surprise, but ichiro is taken aback more than anything and definitely a little flustered

it’s been quite a while since he’s been gifted valentine’s chocolate, from what he can remember. it’s a bit shocking though, receiving chocolates from you. he doesn’t know what to feel exactly

he’s a little shy when you give him the chocolates, perhaps speechless for a second or two. he doesn’t quite know what to say or how to react, besides a sheepish thanks. it’s been a while after all

was this obligatory or homemade chocolate? ichiro couldn’t tell, not that it entirely mattered. it still made him feel butterflies, as sheepish as he is to admit

either way, his chest and mind felt all muddled. his heart beat resounds in his ears, and his face flushes, but ichiro still doesn’t entirely get it. mm, everything was too confusing

he’ll have to get you something more for white day. and perhaps get his feelings sorted out as well

i mean, he for sure gets stashes of chocolates from others on valentine’s (and he has a lot of obligatory chocolate shopping to do next month); but from you?? yeah, jiro gets shy

mm, maybe he did have a little crush, who knows. but even as awkward as he gets when the others give him chocolates, he only seems to blush and stumble upon his words around you

jiro doesn’t know what to say or how to say them. the words get stuck in his throat, and he’s kinda left looking dumbfounded. and red

he’s already thinking of what to get you for white day next month, perhaps a bit too excited

homemade chocolate? he thinks he’s going to burst right then and there. he’s malfunctioning, his face too warm and heart beating too fast

he tastes your chocolate right away, unable to hold off ‘till after school. it’s sweet, of course, but more so than usual. yet, it’s still his favorite he’s ever tasted

doesn’t know how to receive it, really, because he’s so surprised and taken aback by the entire occurrence

saburo’s a bit popular, but he’s never thought of this happening. so right away, he’s stuck in a strange position

he’s all awkward i suppose, and stiff. he’s never been too well with others, of course, so saburo simply doesn’t know what to say or even how to physically react (maybe it’s a little cute). this was way beyond his capabilities

if it’s homemade, he kinda just…overloads? malfunctions maybe. it’s the thought and effort of it all really, no matter who it was. he’s never really had anyone that’d show him that much appreciation

he tries a bite, trying to suppress how strange he feels and how weird this entire ordeal was. it melts so smoothly in his mouth; he’s left a warm mess

ah, his feelings for you were definitely going to be a mess and so unreadable afterward

samatoki

confused, bewildered, surprised? more or less. i mean, he’s not exactly the type of person that’d be receiving chocolates to be honest

it could only mean one thing, really, if samatoki was getting chocolates from you, obligatory or not. but it probably doesn’t hit him until later, much later

mm, he does think it’s cute though. nemu used to give him obligatory chocolate back then, and i guess it is a bit of a soft spot for him. perhaps his heart skipped one beat afterward

he’s not exactly like giddy or anything, but he does seem less..irritated? than usual. actually, he feels pretty good that day. it’s subtle, but it’s there and very much noticeable

it’s sweet, perhaps too much for his liking, but you bet he’s going to devour it all regardless. it was you who gave it to him after all, and that meant everything. he couldn’t let your thoughts go to waste

more amused than anything, mostly because he hadn’t entirely expected anything from you

it could be obligatory or homemade chocolate; either way, he’s probably going to tease you to some degree, especially if you guys were close to some extent

but really, this man is probably flustered internally. i mean, he hadn’t expected this gift; it had thrown him off. and jyuto usually likes to remain cool and composed, so it’s not a feeling he all too likes

but it’s the only thing his stupid mind can think of that day, always trailing back to the chocolates even amidst work. ugh, he’s unsure why he feels less well than usual that day, all warm and knots in the chest

it tastes better than all the obligatory chocolate he’s received from his coworkers at the station, that’s for sure. it melts in his mouth, a sickly feeling

it was definitely amusing, both the chocolates and himself

rio

definitely grateful!! but also a bit confused? he’s not entirely well versed

rio is aware of the tradition and holiday to some extent, but it’s never really been on his mind. but, he does think it’s super sweet of you to make the trip and gift him chocolates, even stay a little, even if he’s a little confused

he’s content in your presence, and you can tell how happy he seems, probably more than usual. rio has that soft look in his eyes, and his smile is sweet

the chocolates taste good! they’re delightful, he tells you. rio isn’t sure why, but he feels something fluttery in his chest, though it feels all too good

he’s definitely going to make it up to you, probably cook the two of you lunch at his site or whatnot or perhaps make his own chocolates for you as well

Samatoki Aohitsugi:

• He is edgy and cute in his gift choice: some cool sunglasses and a bouquet of pink roses.

• Sunglasses to make you match with him and hold up to the title of “Yokohama’s power couple”; pink roses to remind you of all his love and admiration for you.

• And of course, you loved to see these two sides of him in your special gift!

• Samatoki was all blushy when exchanging gifts. He was trying hard not to kiss your entire face before it was appropriate ♥

• You got him a Hawaiian shirt (since he wears those every single day) and a tiny heart-shaped box of chocolates.

• Samatoki felt so happy about it that he immediately wanted to change his shirt to try on the new one. It fit him perfectly.

• Needless to say you felt flustered to see him showing his bare chest so unexpectedly ~ (//ω//)

• For Valentine’s Day, you both decided to go camping. The best quality time required some nature around. That’s the sort of activity that united you as a couple.

• Once your tents were set up, it was time for exchanging gifts.

• Rio gave you a puppy! You have mentioned before you were considering adopting one, and since you both love animals, the puppy was a way of symbolizing the relationship.

• The puppy slept peacefully as you stroked its soft fur and thanked your boyfriend with a kiss ♥

• You got a cookbook and a hiking kit for Rio. With a new cookbook to encourage his hobby, you expected he would start making some normal recipes for you as well (it was hard to deal with his usual ingredients lol).

• The hiking kit was a way of showing how much you enjoyed the adventurous lifestyle you led together.

• Rio loved your well thought choices, and you both agreed to go hiking the next day.

• Walking around the forest was your relaxing afternoon activity when camping, so of course you two went for it. But this time, a small companion made little details exciting: the puppy wanted to sniff at everything he could find.

• At night, laying near the fire, Rio held you close with his strong arms and kissed your forehead, whispering sweet words as he looked inside your eyes:

° If you find him walking down the street and he's around! the sidewalk across the street and you wave to him to let him know that you're going to cross, he doesn't know how to react, are you really going to cross just to talk to him? He prepares himself mentally for whatever you're going to say to him, fearing it's something bad, but when you only ask about his day and invite him to come by your store for coffee, his back involuntarily hunches as if his heart weighed heavily on his chest.

° The next time something similar happens, he freezes on the spot again, but then he develops a sixth sense to cross before you, obviously respecting the traffic rules. Never again in his life will he cross a green light in front of you, he still remembers how you got scared thinking he would have an accident.

° When he makes his rounds he makes sure to get to your store alone, he is very embarrassed when you wait for him with some sweet as a thank you for being so attentive and he doesn't want anyone else to know about it. "Toki, are you always alone? You can come more often if you want, you know there's a place reserved for good guys in my store" you said, ruffling his hair "I'm not a boy, and I'm not alone" he averts his gaze and accommodates his hair as best he can, he doesn't want them to see this part of him either.

° if it's a bit cold you can't allow him to walk like that "Samatoki! It's a bit windy today, you can't just walk like that!" You button up his shirt to cover his torso "s/o, that's fine… I'm not cold" maybe he is a bit cold, but he won't admit it "You're freezing! Don't think that because you're young you won't leave to get sick" you rub his arms up and down to give him some warmth without listening to his complaints.

Jyuto

° You have no consideration for him, cheekily greeting him when he is with his patrol partner, asking if he already had lunch because of what time of day it was and if he answers "no" he is forced to accept any snack you offer them, since obviously he is not you will give something not only to Jyuto but to his partner as well.

° When you find him first thing in the morning you can't help but adjust his hair "s/o, I can do it myself" but despite that he bends over for you to do it "I know, I know…oh, your glasses are a little dirty" and you take them off to clean them "I can do that too" but he keeps waiting for you to finish "I know that too… but it was only for a second" you say putting his glasses back on and looking if there's anything more than you can do for him. You have no idea the effect he has on his day, he is deeply touched by your kindness and maybe he will treat everyone a little better.

° Every time news of an arrest in Yokohama comes out, you ask him if he participated and if he's okay if he did. Most of the time he would rather lie to you if he was involved because he doesn't want to worry you, but he also doesn't want to lie to you and seem like he never does anything. So he simply says that he's fine, even if he's hurt a little.

° He still remembers with shame the time that to celebrate his birthday you brought a cake to his workplace and far from making fun of him, a part of the police department began to sing him happy birthday. Despite this, he was very moved by the gesture, he had not celebrated it for years.

Rio

° If the forecast says it's going to rain, your first reaction is to think of him sleeping in his camp, hoping he won't get wet "You can come if you want, what will you do if the water passes through your tent?" No matter how much you offer him to sleep in your bridge or even prepare a more comfortable bed for him, he refuses "I'm used to the rain, it's okay" he tries to convince you that nothing will happen to him, although more than once you were so insistent that you managed to let the rain pass in your house.

° You usually tell him the offers that are in the market, in case he needs something for his exotic food. He will cook something for you in gratitude, he knows that your palate is more delicate, so try very carefully to prepare something that you like, it may end up having a horrible taste, but he put all his heart into that dish "it really is a flavor different Rio, is very tasty" the satisfied smile on his face is adorned with a slight blush if you ask him for another dish.

° It is difficult for him to go against you, you always speak to him in a tone that leaves no room for doubt, but without being authoritative, so if you tell him to stay still while you clean a couple of superficial wounds, he will do it without hesitation and also I'll thank you with a bit of shame when you're done.

° You constantly compliment how strong he is, so he offers to do whatever strength you need to do. If you clap for him after he helps you he usually does those bodybuilding poses just to make you laugh.

Generals

° When you discover that they are a rap group, you tell them that you will go see them in their next battle to support them but none of the three want you there, they know that they use bad words and that they behave differently than they always do with you. If you accidentally listen to one of his songs they will do everything possible to make you forget that you did it, mainly Jyuto he knows the phrases he says.

° During the holidays you usually give them things to match, last Christmas they were hand-knitted blue scarves. Rio is the most sensitive with your gifts, he will wear it with pride until the weather allows it, he doesn't want it to get ruined so he tries to wash it more carefully. Jyuto and Samatoki are more embarrassing, they will use them very little but they keep them with love.

° Occasionally they stop by your home just to check that you're okay, sometimes they don't agree and all three end up arriving at the same time. "Did you guys come to see me? Ohhhhh how cute they are!" Embracing them to the same time, they invent a thousand excuses to make it seem like it was something casual. "So they won't pass?" They automatically walk through your door and sit around your table, guilt would consume them if they said no.

° It happens infrequently but they are so comfortable with you that sometimes they fall asleep without realizing it and wake up warm with a blanket over their body. It also happens in your store, which is why there is a blanket always available. In the event that it is hot, they wake up knowing that there is an ice cream waiting for them.

° If they are helping you with a task, you call them "son" without realizing it, the first time it happened was with Jyuto and he was so disconcerted that he was slow to react, at some point he thought if he should call you mom in that case. Samatoki wasn't so lucky, he blushed up to his ears but carried on as if it were a matter of course. Rio is just happy that you call him that.

° If either of them has a slightly different face you know right away "Honey, did something happen?" And that question is all they need to open up to you. Sometimes they just want you to listen to them for a while, after each talk you usually ruffle their hair and place a kiss on the crown of their heads, as if it were a ritual to scare away their problems.

° When you celebrate their small achievements you really touch their hearts, they want to be better people just to see you smile. They don't care at all that you treat them like children, they finally found something that brings them peace.

° They do not know if they are the only ones you take care of in this way, but they enjoy every attention you give them, so they use every opportunity they have to return the love with actions, they can be small gifts, do the shopping for you, bring you something candy or help in your store. This all escalates on your birthday when they practically greet you with breakfast in bed and if you don't put a brake on them they are able to see you through until bedtime.

Jyuto x Late

Not back yet?…. You glanced nervously at the clock that hung on the wall to your left. 1:30am. You sighed, debating going to bed. Jyuto had texted you about an hour ago, telling you that he’d be back late as something had cropped up at the last moment and he’d ask you to go to bed first. You would have heeded his advice and gone to bed first if it wasn’t for…you frowned, gripping your bolster a little tighter. It was a terrible time to be missing him; thank heavens it was the weekend tomorrow, and you didn’t have to wake up at ungodly hours to go to a job you got paid too little for. His crumpled shirt lay on the floor nearby. You had tried to pull his shirt over your bolster to mimic the presence of your boyfriend but it didn’t work. You missed the feeling of his hands around your waist...you missed being able to bury your face into his chest as he held you tight at night. 

Fiddling with your phone, your fatigued face reflected in the black screen came as a shock to you. If Jyuto saw you like this, he’d certainly carry you into bed like a sack of potatoes and tuck you in so tight you wouldn’t even be able to go to the bathroom if you wanted to. Maybe I should go to bed...your thoughts were interrupted by a click and your head shot up, eyes widening at the doorknob turning. Should I fake being asleep? You watched helplessly as Jyuto’s shoes appeared in the doorway, knowing that it’d be too late for you to feign being asleep now. Sitting upright, you watched as he kicked his shoes off, running a hand through his already messy hair. Maybe he hasn’t noticed me yet? His dark eye circles do seem a lot darker. He’s probably just tired, I mean…his suit is a lot more creased than usual, he’s probably had a rough day, maybe I’ll prepare the bath for h-“Babe, I thought I told you to go to bed without me?” You jolted, leaping up from the couch, “Huh?” You didn’t even realise that Jyuto had been staring at you, a soft but tired smile on his features. He stepped towards you, throwing his workbag onto the couch, “Why’s my baby still awake? Hm?” He shot a look at his shirt on the floor, raising an eyebrow before resting his forehead against yours, allowing his eyes to flutter shut. Linking your arms around his neck, you smiled as he leaned in for a soft kiss. “I missed you. Couldn’t sleep,” you muttered against his lips. He separated from you, sighing as he ran his gloved hand through your hair, smiling at you, “I’m sorry darling. Go to bed first? I’ll just take a quick shower and be right with you baby.” You nod excitedly, running off to the bedroom to prepare a new set of clothes for him.

Though I think with how long Saburo-chan has been up today, I don't think he'll be wanting to stay up for a long time." Samatoki and Jakurai both him and turn their eyes back to Saburo, who's head is now tilting downwards in the palm of his hand as the boy tries not to fall asleep.

-Well, Ichiro is always so overprotective over his family and especially you. You are just so small and precious, how can he not?

-And oh, how cute and ashamed he looked when he gave you his jacket for the first time..!

-It was late summer, as you two were walking home after a small date in the cafe. Night slowly overtakes the day, and the first stars start shining in the darkening canvas of sky.

-"Mm.. Sometimes it's good to hang out like this, don't you think?" - Ichiro chuckles and looks at you. - "But honestly, I prefer to cook at home with you together.. It's just so.. You know.."

-He is silent now, suddenly too embarrassed. Your hand in his one start trembling and for a second Ichiro thought he confused you too, but then noticed that you gets cold.

-"Oh, the wind today is something..!" - he mumbled, happy that he could change the topic now. - "Here, take this..!"

-Ichiro is a big boy, so you almost get lost in his jacket. But it was so pleasant, to be drowned in such warmth, and the fabric smell like his cologne..

-"Mm.. thank you.." - you close your eyes for a moment, feeling goosebumps in your skin, but this time from happiness, not from cold weather. - "But will you be okay?"

-"Of course, don't you worry, darling.." - your boyfriend chuckled and got closer, leaning closer to your face. - "It's nothing.. Warmth in my heart from your bright smile is enough to never feel any cold.."

-Your eyes widened as you didn't expect something so romantic. Blush heated up your cheeks as Ichiro slowly pulled you in a soft kiss, holding your hands tightly.

-You can't even imagine how fast his heart was beating at this moment, actually, as he felt the same red color on his face. Ichiro does feel kinda ashamed, to use a phrase that he read from his romance manga… But the whole moment was just like some anime scene, how can he not?!

-When you pull away you quickly notice how shy and quiet he becomes, still too excited about sharing his clothes with you.

-It's just.. You always look adorable in Ichiro's eyes, but when you wear some of his clothes.. Well, maybe his jacket is not the only thing he would lend to you to wear.

-So it has become a habit soon, for your boyfriend to always give his jacket to you during dates on the streets or lend some of his T-shirt when you are sitting in his house late in the evening.

-"Hey, s/o.. You go home in my sweater last evening, you know?" - Ichiro mumble with furrowed brows, as he calls you during the day after futile attempts to find his clothes.

-Should I say that he actually is kinda proud about this? As now Ichiro feels like this bond between you and him gets stronger now.

-Maybe it's too early to say something like that, but he already sees you not as his girlfriend, but as part of the family. Cooking together, sharing things and clothes.. You get too deep in Ichiro's heart now and there's no way he would stop on just dating you.

-Oh, this man is kinda possessive. Absolutely love to see you wearing his gifts or just his clothes.

-So it would happen really quickly when he lent you his jacket for the first time.

-Late in his office, almost all other cops go home already and Jyuto was the only one still thinking about his paperwork and new cases. Oh, not really one now, as you just get here too, wanting to finally drag him to home.

-"Mm, wait a little, s/o.. It takes no more than five minutes.." - he mumbled and pointed to a chair next to him with a little smirk. - "Decided to go here and scold me like a real wife, hehe? Don't worry, with you by my side I will do everything faster."

-Your boyfriend's playful behavior always makes you shy, so you just sit there, silent and embarrassed. Jyuto offers you his coffee, but you shake your head.

-Well, maybe you should accept his drink, as you quickly start feeling drowsy. It was kinda cold in this office, and you were leaning closer to Jyuto, placing your head on his shoulder, fingers slowly tracing small lines on his arm.

-"Dear, don't tease me.. You know it's hard for me to focus on something when you're around.." - he chuckled and noticed that your hand stopped moving. When he turned a little, there was a beautiful view to him - already asleep, you just snuggled up to him like a little cat.

-With a sigh, Jyuto slowly moved away, trying to not wake you up. How can he, when you look like an innocent lamb? All he wants now it's cover your trembling shoulder with his jacket..

-"What sweet little angel visited me today, huh.." - he smirks, admiring your peaceful sleeping face. - "You made a bad choice, to select me as your partner, darling. This dirty cop will never let go of such beauty from his arms.."

-Will absolutely tease you about this for a long time, adding that you had whispered his name in your dreams.

-But after this little accident Jyuto will offer his jacket more often to you, along with his other clothes as you look just adorable like that.

Many will call you a liar. Others simply won’t believe it. Jyuto will laugh right in your face. And Rio, well, he doesn’t care either way. But you swear it’s the truth.

Samatoki was soft for you.

Honestly, you didn’t quite believe it yourself. But ever since your relationship with him became serious enough for the two of you to start living together, you’ve noticed the subtle changes in him. He came home at a decent time and would make food for the two of you to share. He also seemed clingier when you slept together. He was just different behind closed doors.

But he would rather die than admit it.

Now, today was your three year anniversary, and your first anniversary living together. Samatoki promised you a dinner for two and a walk along the beach. It was simple, sure, but you didn’t need a big fancy date to know he loved you. If anything, simple dates like this proved just how much he loved you without making a big deal about it.

It was four o’clock on the dot when Samatoki texted you quickly, a small smile on his face. Grabbing his jacket, he slipped out of his office and headed straight for you. Of course his subordinates tried to persuade him to go out that not, especially considering he seemed more dressed up than usual. But he brushed them off, telling them that he was taking the night off.

“Wah! Say it ain't so, sir!” One of the underlings wailed. “You never take time off.”

He rolled his eyes. “Well today it is. So try not to get into too much trouble or I’ll never hear the end of it from Jyuto.”

Before they could keep him from you any longer, he got into his convertible and drove off. Of course this was the exact moment Jyuto decided to call him. Groaning, he answered it, even though he knew he shouldn’t. He was already a couple minutes late.

“What do you want?”

“Where are you headed?”

He looked around but didn’t notice any cop cars. “Why do you care?”

“Rio invited me to his camp for dinner. Like hell I’m going to do that. So I’m going with you.”

“The fuck you are!” Samatoki snapped. “I’m busy tonight and you’re not coming. Figure out a different excuse.”

He ended the call before he could yell at him. He made a quick stop before finally making it home. Smiling, he snuck up behind you and wrapped his arms around your middle and kissed your neck. He set the flowers he got for you on the vanity table beside you.

“You look amazing.” Samatoki mumbled into your neck.

A smile tugged at the corner of your lips and you touched his cheek. Your outfit perfectly complimented his royal blue silk shirt he usually wore on special occasions. You had your hair all done up and bought new shoes just for today. You both looked like a couple of movie stars.

“I could say the same thing about you, handsome.”

He chuckled. “I’ll get started on dinner, okay?”

“Do you want some help?”

Shaking his head, he pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “No. Today is all about you.”

You pouted. “It’s about you too, you know. I’ll set the table. Fair?”

He sighed. He knew he wasn’t going to be able to talk you out of helping him. And he didn’t mind it all that much. So he nodded and got to work making your favorite meal. The two of you talked about your days and anything else you wanted to tell the other. The sweet domestic bliss of the moment made Samatoki feel complete and full.

With you, he was able to put aside all of his troubles and anxieties. He wasn’t Samatoki Aohitsugi, second-in-command of the Katen Family, or leader of Mad Trigger Crew. He was your Samatoki and even though it was kind of embarrassing to him, he was wrapped around your fingers. And he was fine with that. Besides, you only used your power for evil on the very rare occasion.

When dinner was done, you took his hand and led him to the beach not too far from where you both lived. Again, the two of you talked and splashed each other occasionally with the ocean water. He was having so much fun with you, he completely lost track of time. However, as the sun dipped below the horizon, he remembered his special plan he came up with a couple weeks ago.

Taking your hand and holding your face gently, he said, “Y/n, you are one of the most special people in my life. I couldn’t imagine living one second without you. And so I want to ask you, will you marry me?”

“Oh my God! Yes!”

“don’t you think you’ve had one too many drinks, y/n?” jyuto chuckles. of all the times he’s gone out for a drink with you, he’s never quite seen you so drunk before — only tipsy. it was honestly amusing for him, seeing how you try your best to keep your head up and eyes open. it was cute, he muses.

“i’m…not drunk,” you murmur. it’s not very convincing, especially with the pauses between your words; jyuto knew a drunk person when he saw one. “i can drink some more-”

“i don’t think so.” jyuto slides your half full (though he’d say half empty) glass away from you, which warrants a pout of yours. he should be immune to it, but instead, jyuto finds himself laughing; he was possibly a little tipsy himself at this point. i mean, your pout was all too cute. “i’m only looking out for you.” perhaps a bit much. jyuto cared for you after all, though it was a different type of care than he felt for his teammates. this one was…stronger? maybe? he couldn’t quite explain it, though jyuto wasn’t stupid and knew what it meant.

“..too much,” you slur, becoming a little incoherent already. “but that’s what i like about you.” oh? well that piques his interest, though maybe it shouldn’t have. you were drunk after all, but well, jyuto was a bit of a bastard.

“oh?” he smirks. “you like me?” well, he liked you too; jyuto is only teasing. you two were friends after all, so of course he’d like and care for you, though it felt more than that at times. it’s not like he’s an idiot — jyuto knew he held feelings for you. but hearing it from you first and foremost was much too entertaining, especially since you were drunk and had no clue. he probably wouldn’t let you forget this the very next day.

you’re fast asleep in moments, stirring slightly when jyuto pokes you to make sure that you were indeed knocked out. he sighs; it was going to be a headache to figure out how to get you home, though at least the two of you lived relatively close by. he was thankful for that.

you look so peaceful, gentle smile on your lips and snoring lightly — it’s adorable, he smiles. more than a friend? your words resonate within his mind. well, of course jyuto liked you more than a friend already; he just never confessed before, more so because he didn’t entirely see the point right now. why ruin a perfectly good friendship? it simply didn’t make any sense.

Still displeased, Ichijiku stared at Jyuto as he opened the door with his red-gloved hand and finally left her in peace.

Jyuto walked around the hall that led to the Police Department’s entrance.

With each and every step, he wondered how could Ichijiku have possibly turned into such a demanding woman. To him, it didn’t seem like she had been manipulated by The Party of Words like other members.

Her hatred towards men always had seemed very intricate to her own personal beliefs. She always seemed dominated by an uncontrollable rage whenever the subject was brought up.

Jyuto was very aware men were no saints, and working in the police has only showed him the crimes many were capable of committing. Yet, he couldn’t figure out why would a woman such as Ichijiku would grow so despiteful of men without any sort of exception…

- Something certainly happened to her… - he muttered to himself as he finally left the building.

It was nine a.m. when Jyuto checked his wristwatch, which meant it was time to go to Chuuoku’s Police Department for his monthly report on the drug traffic investigations. He would once again talk to no one less than Ichijiku Kadenokoji.

The previous month had brought him deep curiosity as to why his boss had such a grudge with men, and thus, he tried to investigate a little bit into her past.

Of course, since she had a very important position in the government, it wasn’t so simple – Chuuoku had extreme censorship methods, especially involving any information regarding its leaders. Carelessly asking about her past could get the officer himself into jail.

Yet that did not mean there was no evidence at all.

Jyuto even questioned himself if looking for such scarce data was worth the effort.

He ended up doing so not simply out of curiosity, but also because a part of him that could never speak up wished to know what the current government was all about.

Who were the people behind the laws he disagreed so much with?

Why these women were so obsessed with rap battle competitions between men they alleged were so ruthless?

What could have possibly triggered the series of unexplained events that led to the installment of a dictatorship like that?

Things happened so suddenly after the war that Jyuto never understood fully what the country he lived in turned into.

If he could find out about Ichijiku’s past, even if just a little, he felt like things would finally make some sort of sense in his mind.

And so, he collected in secret documents from many police districts that mentioned any suspect delation linked to Ichijiku. In Jyuto’s mind, only something as serious as a crime against her could explain such rage.

One of these papers really caught his attention. It was a testimony made by Ichijiku herself accusing a politician of murdering a woman named Karin Shimozaki and her family. Ichijiku alleged it was due to the fact Karin knew about the corrupt scheme said politician was involved in, and since she represented a threat, he demanded a group of man to kill her.

The file had been shelved since then.

If Ichijiku’s testimony was indeed the truth about Karin’s death, then it was really concerning the police did nothing about it. Why would they ignore a murder accusation like that? Jyuto thought it was very suspect…

He pondered about this new discovery as he drove to his destination.

- As you can see, we have cleared out this drug dealing point in Yokohama for good.

- Great. How about the yakuza? – Ichijiku looked up for a second after reading the documents Jyuto had brought her.

- Well, those are a difficult bunch…

- Do not pretend, Iruma. I know you’re protecting that buddy of yours. This Samatoki does whatever he wants if it depends on you!

- Are you serious? – Jyuto looked disturbed – I surely do my job in the most lawful manners, but you cannot expect me to keep Mad Trigger Crew’s leader in prison, can you, madam?

- Lawful? You, Iruma? Don’t make me laugh! I know about your methods. – she replied with a challenging look on her face.

- Then you might as well know they are very effective, thank you – Jyuto said, confident.

- Hmph! So pretentious! You should hold your tongue when talking to superiors!

- But what if those above you are wrong? What if their actions do not respect one’s basic rights?

- What do you mean by this? – Ichijiku raised an eyebrow.

- I’ve read some documents. Karin Shimozaki was murdered a few years ago, but there was no further investigation to arrest the culprit. You reported that a corrupt politician was the responsible for it, but nobody listened to you. Am I wrong?

Ichijiku was in disbelief. How come did Jyuto find such evidence? What was he planning to do by knowing her past?

Jyuto looked at her seriously before continuing:

- Did you readily accept your superior’s actions in this case? Accepting a politician to take the life of this woman, whom I assume was important to you? Accepting the police unwillingness to investigate the case?

- I… What do you want from me, Iruma? Do you want to be promoted or something? – Ichijiku replied a bit irritated.

- Well, being promoted is nice, but that’s not my goal with this conversation. You might think I’m trying to use your past against you, but I assure you that’s not the case.

- Oh, very well! Because if it was I would have your past to use against you, sergeant! I know everything about you!

Jyuto smiled:

- That’s expected of you. Always ready for someone to knock you down. All I’m trying to say is that I understand where your grudge with men came from, but is this political system you’re in really a solution? Isn’t The Party of Words harming people’s basic rights anyways?

- You!!!

Ichijiku glared at Jyuto, but that did not stop his words:

- You’re a smart woman. I’m sure you can understand my point. It’s your choice to be in the Party of Words. It’s also your choice to leave it – he confidently stepped towards the door.

- Is that all the nonsense you had to say?

- Precisely. Now, I better leave. See you next month, miss! – he smirked as he opened the office door.

- Bastard!!! I’ve warned you not to call me like that! Always provoking, you’re not jobless because I’m terribly patient! – Ichijiku replied, completely infuriated.

- I know, I know – Jyuto laughed – I’m so competent you can’t even consider dismissing me!

The man finally left, closing the door right in front of an enraged Ichijiku.

Jyuto knew there was much more to her past than just this. It was still unclear to him how much Karin was involved in Ichijiku’s life.

Yet even without knowing this information, he hoped to have at least reminded Ichijiku of her own humanity.

She seemed to have involved herself with something against her own initial reasons to want to change the system.

Jyuto made a dangerous move by telling her such words. It was risky to confront The Party of Words.

But that was an attempt to make life for everybody in his country a little less difficult. That level of oppression was not acceptable.

In that sense, his motives made the risk of confronting Ichijiku worth taking.

Jyuto left the Police Department building with a hopeful smile.

How their division teammates are effected by your breakup - headcanons

Ichiro, Sasara, Jyushi

Ichiro

Jiro and Saburo still ask of you. He hasn’t told them that you’re never going to go to one of Jiro’s football games again. He doesn’t have the heart to tell Saburo there’s never going to be another chess rematch between you two.

Seeing the effect your presence had on his brothers is almost too overwhelming to bear. He feels guilty not telling them of your break up, but he knows he’d feel even guiltier if they knew it was his fault they’d never see you again.

When the two call out to you in the streets, excitedly yelling your name as Ichiro internally cries in the background- you look away. Seeing the excitement in their eyes die out and hurt settle in at the realization is one of the worst things Ichiro’s ever seen.

Sasara

Rosho looks at him and guilt from years past resurfaces. Sasara’s reaction is all too similar to one of years past. Denial of pain, overcompensating with humor, and binging of harmful habits. Rosho can’t help but feel helpless. He can’t even be mad at you, after all he did the same to Sasara once before.

Rei sees Sasara and feels partial guilt for playing into his bad habits. He doesn’t know how to comfort him other than offering to pay for drinks or a meal- so they go out more than they already did.

When he’s drunk, Sasara spills it all. The hurt, the pain, the old happy memories. Rei and Rosho wonder if there’s hope for you two to rekindle your love, all so they can see their friend smile once more.

Jyushi

Hitoya is the one that immediately notices his change of behavior. No matter how much effort he puts into his Chuuni persona, the underlying message of his words is clear.

He tries his best to cheer him up, just like he did before. He tells Jyushi stories of his own romance troubles but it only seems to remind him of old memories. He takes Jyushi out to places, but again it just reminds him of things he used to do with you.

Dice notices that Gentaro doesn’t tease him as much ever since you broke up with him. Maybe it’s a win that he’s not being exploited just to get some cash- but it’s odd seeing the eccentric writer solemn and distant. Ever since you left, it seemed like Gentaro forgot how to have fun with life.

Samatoki’s stubbornness is the biggest source of pain for Jyuto. Samatoki grumbles whenever he sees something that even reminds him of you- which unfortunately is a lot of things. Which were once associated with fluff and happiness- now linked with bitterness of a love lost. It makes Jyuto’s job much, much more difficult, much to his annoyance.

Ichiro makes a small comment about Jiro not staying out as late anymore. Saburo follows it up saying that he noticed Jiro stopped making such large lunches for school. It makes Jiro stop eating, pausing as he thinks of an excuse. Of course, his brothers didn’t know of his secret romance. And they didn’t know of your secret break up either.
