Newsies (Live)
Ok so I rewatched newsies live at like,,Christmas and have been caught in a major newsies spiral so here are my thoughts 😻‼️
Jeremy Jordan 🥰 I get that he was kinda old to play Jack but Idc he’s iconic I’m so glad they called him back to play him
Same with Kara she’s an icon and literally the only Katherine I will accept for the proshot
Completely random but I’m glad it was a proshot and not an attempt to make it into a musical movie 😭 (especially since 92sies is literally already a movie lmao)
I also rewatched the og movie and watching it reminded me how much they BUTCHERED SPOT’S SCREEN TIME 😕 and therefore Tommy’s screen time 😔
Also Tommy Bracco he is literally the only spot I will accept (and like,,the only spot on bway that Ik so 😭)
The bg newsies 🥰 Literally all of them they were all icons the cast was literally perfect it’s unreal
ETHAN 😭 HE’S SUCH A CUTIE AND IS SO DRAMATIC IT’S ADORABLE
Andrew Keenan Bolger, also so glad they got him back as crutchie cuz he is an I c o n (as much as I love Andy I deffo prefer Andrew as crutchie lmao)
The fact that there were enough members in the cast that there was literally only 1 case of a newsie doubling up on characters
Literally the entirety of seize the day
The fact that Jeremy runs away from all of the dancing 😭
Also how Jeremy almost kills himself at the end with the heel click/bell kick 💀
The fact Michael (Tommy boy) has a rlly bad American accent but that’s ok cuz I can’t do one either 🥰
BROOKLYN’S HERE 😻‼️‼️
How Tommy’s (spot) eyeliner/eye lashes are sm more noticeable than everyone else, especially his bottom lashes lmao
How tf did Morris not hurt his hand when he hit the printing press?? Like gurl what 😭
The Delancey brothers - they were like,,deffo less comical than in the og movie but still rlly silly 😭
The fact morris literally just stands on top of the newspaper bit for like the entire show
Them bonking heads (I am a Delancey apologist sorry guys 😔)
Ben Tyler Cook 🥰 I absolutely adore Ryan Breslin and actually would’ve loved to see him return as Race but god Ben is so silly I love him sm 😭
“The woild is yer erster” - Literally no one beats his version of this sorry 😭
Pulitzer - He was so good and literally for what bro 😭
”It’s a compromise we can all live with” - Jack Kelly 1899
BEN FANKHAUSER‼️ Also literally the only appropriate Davey fr
The way at the start of Brooklyn’s here Jeremy hits the printing press in time with the music
The set 😻 Ik it’s kinda simple but literally shut up it’s iconic
The height difference between Tommy and Ben at the end of Brooklyn’s here and like,,everywhere lmao
Honestly the height difference between Tommy and everyone
Joshua Burrage - He’s so silly I love him sm
MEDDAAA‼️ GOD HER VOICE IS JUST SO UGH 😫 AND SHE’S SUCH A SWEETHEART LIKE PLS MA’AM BE MY MOTHER 😭
Will never get over how they can sing like that whilst dancing
HOW DOES BEN COOK NOT DROP HIS CIGAR WHILST DANCING SO WELL LIKE???
So sad Ryan Steele wasn’t there 😔 The dude who played specs was good tho (+Michael covered for the turns so 🤷‍♀️)
Hannah was so unserious she’s so funny 😭
Once and for all - this song will literally always give me chills
TOMMY NOT THROWING THE PAPER STACK HIGH ENOUGH DURING ONCE AND FOR ALL 😭
Ben Cook kicking himself in the face during seize the day 💀
THE CAMERA ANGLE WE GET DURING THE RALLY RIGHT BEFORE JEREMY ENTERS
The hug between Tommy and Michael (Spot+Tommy Boy) at the end when Jeremy tells them they won ☹️
The fact Oscar and Morris went for Les first?? Like gurl I get it he’s probably easiest to carry but what were yall trying to achieve with that 😭
The fact that the Delanceys like,,actually got their asses beat like that shit kinda looked like it hurt 💀
SANTA FEEEE‼️ Iconic 😻
The way Crutchie screams for Jack ☹️ although that one “what ya say” meme where it starts playing after Oscar hits him has kinda ruined that scene for me cuz I keep laughing abt it 😕
That one two people cartwheel during the scene change
”I’m glad to have you back :) “Shuddup” - Jack and Davey (THEY’RE GAY YOUR HONOUR)
There is literally no heterosexual explanation for that scene
THE LOOK DAVEY GIVES JACK WHEN THEY REALISE HE’S A SELLOUT
Once again literally no heterosexual explanation for that scene
Ok but literally just how much fun all of the newsies look like they’re having?? Especially in king of new york like they honestly look like they’re having the time of their lives 😭
“That’s disgusting” - David Jacobs, 1899 (when he’s a victorian newsboy who cares about hygiene 🥰🤭)
Ik Pulitzer saif it too but Idc ok the dude who played Pulitzer was kinda hot anyways (I don’t make the rules sorry 🤷‍♀️ [I am sorry for this tho my taste in men is uh 😨])
That one thing Jeremy does after he shakes Roosevelt’s hand for the first time 😭
”Your majesty” - Crutchie, 1899 (Referring to the governor 😭)
Maybe I should just make one of these with my favourite lines cuz I have so many
Honestly literally the whole fucking musical it was iconic and I am forever grateful that it exists 😻
Honestly there’s probably so so so much more but that’s all I can like,,fully remember rn but I’ll definitely rewatch it and update this lmao
Overall I absolutely adore the musical, and I’m glad the proshot exists cuz it is I c o n i c (also I am totally gonna make a list of my favourite lines from it lmao)

The Other Side
Bet Hanner (OC)/John Hancock
Tumblr media
Suffice it to say, Bet Hanner and John McDonough were polar opposites.
Where Bet was wide-eyed and optimistic, John was a pessimist who's eyes were usually blurry from jet. Where Bet was eager to join the Minutemen and explore the Commonwealth, John was content to remain in the cushy safety of Diamond City. (With occasional trips down to Goodneighbor for the best chems.)
By all accounts, the two ought to have been enemies. Something however, be it their mutual friendship with Nick Valentine, the limited supply of youths in the city, or just Bet's determination to turn John around while he secretly adored that the ball of sunshine never gave up on him, it was quite common to see the pair at random hideaways within Diamond City arguing about everything and nothing.
And they were quite good at tucking themselves away. John knew all the back routes out of the city walls from trips to Goodneighbor, and Bet knew all the hidden spots around from hiding from her mother when she got on a bad bender.
There was one out in the open spot they could be found on occasion however: the Colonial Taphouse. Usually late in the evening, when the only people there were John, Bet, and the owner/bartender Henry Cooke. John would be drowning himself in alcohol while Bet would be trying to pull him away from the bar; usually being the one to drag him home when Cooke finally kicked them out.
Bet had recently been promoted within the Minutemen to a Private. While John was happy for her, he also dreaded the motivation for her to make another one of her recruitment speeches.
"I'm tellin' ya Johnny, you'd kick ass in the Minutemen! I could get you into my unit! Come on, picture it: you and me out there fightin' the good fight!"
"And give you more reason to boss me around? No thanks sunshine." He knocked back another shot, flipping the glass over and tapping the bottom to signal Cooke for a refill. "The day I play do-gooder is the day you follow me down the gutter."
Bet scowled as another platter of liquor shots were placed between them. Though John was liable to drink the taphouse dry, Cooke knew better than to hand over a full bottle by now; John'd just walk out the door with it.
As her friend went for one of the glasses, Bet surprised him by going for one as well. She knocked back the shot and immediately made a face, scrunching up her nose. "Bleh! Eh!" John smirked at her as she tried to act tough and flip her glass over onto the bar as he had. His sunshine was so cute. Once she had shaken off the liquor, she smacked down a patch in front of him; her old one from when she had first been a new recruit in the Minutemen — she’d been upgraded since her promotion.
“Right here, right now: I put the offer out. I don’t wanna chase you down; you’ve got the right stuff for this gig, and I know you see it! You sign up with me, and I can cut you free, out of the drudgery and walls keepin’ you in.”
“Lotta people who would kill to be inside the city walls, sunshine.”
“Not the walls I’m talkin’ about Johnny.” She stole the shot glass out of his hand. “You can trade this typical, for somethin’ colorful! And if it’s crazy —“ she shrugged “live a little crazy.” She knocked back the glass and shook her head violently. “No use playin’ it sensible, Mr. King of Conventional!” She smacked down the brim of his old newsboy hat, earning her a glare.
“Come on, don’t you wanna get away from the same old part you gotta play?” She swiped his hat off his head, replacing it with her own Minutemen one. “Cuz I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride! I’ll take you too the other side.” Bet sidestepped out of John’s reach as he made a grab for his hat back. She banged on the side of the bar’s old jukebox, starting up an old prewar swing song. “So you can do like you do.” She made a show of putting the newsboy hat on her head with some ridiculous dance moves. “Or you can do like me! Stay in the cage, or you can finally take the key! Oh damn, and suddenly you’re free to fly!” Bet spun around, throwing her arms out. “It’ll take you to the other side!”
Now, Bet was a lightweight. On the rare occasions that John did manage to get her intoxicated in some way, he usually found her behavior hilarious. At the moment though, it was getting a tad annoying. “Okay sister, you wanna cut me in.” He balanced her against the bar before snatching his hat off her head. “Well I hate to tell you, but it just. won’t. happen.” trading her Minutemen hat for his own ragged one, he continued. “So thanks, but no. I think I’m good to go. See, I quite enjoy the life you say I’m trapped in.” He turned the dusty tricorn over in his hands, studying it. “Now I admire you, and this whole act you do. You’re onto somethin’, really it’s somethin’. But life in here’s alright, no need to chase a dying light.” He plopped her hat back onto her head, making a point to rub it into her hair. “I’ll have to leave that up to you.”
John had been very vocal when it came to his thoughts on the Minutemen; they were a well meaning group, but a bunch of hacks when it came down to the wire. They made a lot of lofty promises and had little to show for it. Protecting people at a minute’s notice and not expecting anything in return. Working to build a peaceful Commonwealth where everyone lived safe. Or as Bet liked to put it: of the people for the people. What a damn joke.
“Don’t you know by now that I’m okay with this uptown part I get to play? I got what I need, and I don’t wanna take your ride; I don’t need to see the other side.” He picked the patch up of the bar and pressed it into her hand. “You go and do like you do, I’m good to do like me. Ain’t in a cage, so I don’t need to take the key. Sister really, can’t you see I’m doin’ fine?” John picked up another glass from the tray. “I don’t need to see the other side.” he leaned back against the bar and knocked back the drink.
“Ah come on Johnny boy!” Bet threw her arm over his shoulders. “Is this really how you want to spend your days? Booze, jet, misery, and seedy lays?”
“Yeah well if I were mixed up with you!” He threw her arm off and pointed an accusatory in her at her. “I’d be the talk of the town! Disgraced and disowned, another one of the clowns!”
“But you would finally live a little, finally laugh a little.” Bet’s voice lost all joking tone and went serious. “Just let me give you somethin’ to believe in and maybe, it’ll wake you up. Cure your achin’, take your walls, and start ‘em brakin’. Now that’s a deal, that seems to me worth takin’!” she sighed and pulled a pouch of caps from her coat pocket. “But I guess I’ll leave that up to you.”
Bet tipped her hat to John and walked out the door on somewhat unsteady feet, handing the caps to Cooke as she went. It wasn’t the first time she’d try to recruit John, nor would it be the last. Bet Hanner and John McDonough were indeed opposites; their biggest difference was that Bet believed in things and John didn’t.
*******
*Some years later*
A shriveled brown hand curled around a frayed Minutemen patch. Bleary eyes studied the historical exhibits before them, landing on one in particular.
The red coat was flashy and eye catching, but what caught his attention was the tricorn hat. “Just let me give you somethin’ to believe and maybe it’ll wake you up.”
The glass shattered with one hit. John McDonough was no more.
John Hancock had been born.

anyway i’m still thinkin about roceit newsies au...this got SO LONG its basically a bullet fic of the whole plot at this point but uh enjoy!!! its has all the sides and remy and emile bc i rly wanted to shove them all in here aldkaldka
this is based on the musical mostly bc i have never watched the original movie all the way thru oops
roman is jack and remus is crutchie (thanks boop). remus does crazy stunts even with his crutch and roman is Constantly Worried TM and overprotective of remus even tho remus can DEF take care of himself
on the other hand remus knows roman hates working as a newsboy and just wants to escape to some small town where he can become a local artist of some sort. remus wants roman to go CHASE his DREAMS even tho he’s afraid roman might leave him behind
roman may be the actor but remus is great at coming up with gruesome yet intriguing headlines that get people to buy papers and would totally be a great author of some sort
ON THAT NOTE roman dreams of santa fe and can picture it perfectly but whenever he tries to explain it, it comes out as senseless rambling and longing. it’s remus who can really put into words what roman feels (bc theyre bros and they just GET each other)
virgil as davey, patton as les, logan as sarah (its the musical but they have an extra sibling okay. let me have older brother logan)
virgil and patton show up and virgil is super untrusting and hates that theyre basically lying to get people to buy papers but patton is just EXCITED to meet New People!!! and looks up to roman (and remus), like, instantly
it helps that roman promises to take them to a real actual theater after they sell all their papers owned by the one the only emile picani !!!
also roman is the one who first calls him “virge” which is like jack saying “davey” instead of david. yes this is necessary information
so they sell their papers (and roman briefly meets an ESPECIALLY handsome guy wink wink) and go see emile who performs some variant of That’s Rich like the star he is. u cant take singer emile away from me
roman also performs bc i said so. he spies someone watching him during his act up above the stage and climbs up there when he’s done
janus. its janus, if that wasnt clear or u dont know the plot of the newsies musical aldkaldlal
so yeah janus as katherine!! he may be pulitzer’s son but that doesn’t mean his father wants him to be a journalist. pulitzer thinks he should prepare to inherit the publishing company or be a banker or smth, not be a journalist
i just think janus’ “society is a LIE” vibe fits with katherine. i mean, just look at Watch What Happens. “give life’s little guys some ink,” “they’ll storm the gates,” “rich greedy sourpusses” .... idk it just SCREAMS janus to me
ALSO, katherine technically lies about her identity for like 3/4 of the musical, so
anyway! roman meets janus and janus is all suave and lowkey flirty at first but then roman starts flirting BACK and jan is like “uh oh how to talk to cute boys????”
so then he gets all “i have more important things to do” *hair flip* and goes back to the article he’s supposed to be writing about emile’s theater (a lot of his notes are about roman’s performance but nobody needs to know that shhh)
roman draws a portrait of jan and leaves it there and janus gently & dramatically picks it up, stares at it, and tucks it into his suit with a soft smile
uh oh prices for papers went up! virgil steps up and helps roman lead a strike. turns out his caution works GREAT with roman’s determination and they keep each other from going towards extreme overthinking (virgil) or extreme stupidity (roman). they are a TEAM and they are BESTIES.
remus: lets SET THE PAPERS ON FIRE
roman, starry eyed: HECK YEAH LETS DO IT
virgil: how about we dont do that and instead form a union
and then the twins are like GOOD IDEA and tell everyone else. virgil may be a cautious and untrusting and afraid of public speaking but he has good ideas dangit
the intro to seize the day yknow? virgil says a Good Idea (which can probably be traced back to him always listening to logan rant about his studies) and roman spreads the message in a Firm Rebellion-y way to the other newsies
and patton is there doing his absolute best. he may be small but he knows that this isn’t right or fair to the newsboys and he’s ready to physically fight someone
enter logan who is lowkey really proud of virgil for stepping outside of his comfort zone to do whats right. logan may be scared out of his mind for his little bros but he’s gonna help them as much as he can between college and trying to work side jobs to help their fam
basically logan knows janus and tells him that he should report on the strike bc logan wants to help his bros AND his friend however he can
cue janus seeing his opportunity and TAKING it. he’s gonna write about this strike even if no one else will!!! take THAT, father
he also maybe possibly wanted to see roman again. but roman never needs to know that okay what he doesnt know cant hurt him
seize the day happens!!!! they strike!!!! they r powerful!!! but then no one else from any other sections of new york strike with them and they lowkey get rekt
remus mocks the delanceys but that was a BAD decision cuz now theyre targeting him and he gets taken to the REFUGE
roman is SAD bc his brother’s been taken away, no one showed up to help them strike, his brother’s been taken away and he just wants to get OUT of there. run away to santa fe, his ideal world, but he can’t even articulate that because his brother is gone
how is that just act one. how have i written so much yet left out so much???
remus is at the refuge and he’s a little more scared, now, that roman really will just leave him behind even though he knows deep down that roman would never.
still. he writes roman a letter and maybe he goes into a little too much detail about his injuries and the refuge but hey, that’s remus. he writes about how maybe they can run away to santa fe together. he signs it “your brother” and i CRY because they are the best bros
roman reads it and ALSO cries. especially because there it is, the description of santa fe he can never come up with by himself. remus rly does know him, huh
total scene change: janus finds the other newsies (and logan) in a restaurant? bar? and is like “!!! ur on the FRONT PAGE on my newspaper” which i just decided is called the snake instead of the sun
virgil didn’t totally trust janus would follow thru at first but now he’s convinced. they did it!!!! theyre on the front page!!!! the world WILL know!!!!
cue tapdancing!!!!!! king of new york is an absolute bop. i need logan tapdancing daintily and then janus LAUNCHING into some complex tap routine bc the newsies think he too will dance daintily
i know they wouldnt,,, actually dance but just let me have this self-indulgence in this entirely self-indulgent au
the Bro Trio + janus go hunt down roman to show him the paper and find him painting stuff at emile’s all sad and upset bc, well, they lost and remus was taken
but virgil is trying to show him that they made progress!!! sure pulitzer won but he won the BATTLE and actually the poor guy’s head is spinning bc theyre gonna win.
“cmon, ro, if i’m is telling you to be optimistic there must be hope”
see virgil calls him RO and its cute bc roman gave him the nickname ‘virge’ and now virgil’s giving him the nickname ‘ro’ theyre just besties okay
roman is unconvinced but then logan, who roman has actually never met before, steps in with Facts and Statistics, and patton adds some adorable words of encouragement, and janus sassily waves their Front Page Story at him, and roman starts realizing they DO have a chance
but then uh oh pulitzer threatens remus and the Bro Trio and roman is forced to speak out against the strike or risk ruining the lives of everyone he loves. and also he finds out that janus is pulitzer’s son and is Betrayed TM
theres some “he’s just trying to build up a false confidence in u so u can plummet to even greater depths” parallels in there somewhere....u can’t trust many people as a newsie and when roman DOES trust someone turns out he’s the son of the guy ur trying to fight
so roman says overnight in pulitzer’s basement, sleeping on an uncomfortable old printing press, and makes his decision
now for the RALLY
remy is spot conlon bc he DESERVES to be the leader of the brooklyn newsies. brooklyn, flushing, richmond, etc all show up to a newsies rally and are like YEAH!!! STRIKE!!!!
virgil is trying to tame the crowd nervously and keeps waiting for roman to show up bc they work best when theyre working together!!!! finally roman’s there and virgil introduces him (the attention isnt solely on him now thank gosh)
but then roman starts talking about how they dont stand a chance and how they shouldnt go on strike and virgil is just. confused and upset and angry
especially when he sees one of pulitzer’s employees slipping roman wads of money
virgil corners roman afterwards and is absolutely RIPPING into him. roman could fix this if he would just tell virgil the truth, tell him he doesn’t care about the money, he just wanted to keep him and patton and logan safe—
but roman knows if he tells virgil, then virgil will turn all his anger towards pulitzer, will be able to convince roman to keep going, and roman won’t. he can’t put virgil, put his family, at risk.
so he lies.
he doesn’t mean any of it. but he says it.
and maybe he kind of understands why janus lied, too.
he says he’s never had anyone to take care of him or remus, not like virgil does with his parents and his older brother. he says virgil will never know what it’s like.
virgil scoffs and glares and beneath all his fury looks crushed. but there’s still fire in his eyes, a spark roman saw that first day that only grew and engulfed any doubts virgil ever had.
roman says he’ll take the money and go, leave new york behind.
virgil says fine. we don’t need you. because you know what? all those words you said were mine. i didn’t have the courage to say them back then but now i do. we don’t need you.
(because i watched that scene in the movie and like YES go OFF davey i mean virgil)
roman flees to his “bedroom” which is really just a fire escape and just longs for remus’ reassurance. he has the letter but it doesn’t seem as encouraging now, not when he’s lost everything else important to him.
then janus shows up and roman’s mad at him but not mad enough to kick him out. and janus watched roman just give up on everything they’ve been fighting for and just wants to know WHY. why did he turn his back on the newsies when they were so close?
and roman, tired and upset and defeated, just says they wouldn’t succeed. even if all the newsies went on strike no one would report on it, anyway, because pultizer has all the printing presses on lockdown, even the one janus published from. and they already lost once! what more could they possibly do?
roman looks out over the railing, chest heaving from his rant, longing for his imaginary santa fe where he doesn’t have to face his failures. janus stands next to him and puts his hand over roman’s.
“i don’t have a simple answer to that question....but here’s a start.”
and janus pulls out a paper with roman’s words (well, and virgil’s, because virgil said it first but roman rephrased it powerfully, and that’s why they worked as a team) typed out, words that make the strike not about newsies but about ALL working children in the city who are being exploited for their youth and naivety.
it’s an entire article, expertly written. if published it would get the word out to the other newsies that they haven’t given up and show other working children and adults alike that this is IMPORTANT and they aren’t going away.
and then roman remembers his drawings of the refuge and remus’ graphic descriptions and shows them to janus and hey!!! they have a plan!!! they just need to print it....
roman’s like yo there’s an old press in ur dad’s basement he’d never suspect anything
and theyre both so excited and theyre gonna DO this, FINALLY, and janus sees hope on roman’s face again, maybe permanently this time, and janus just leans in and kisses him.
its very sweet and cute and theyre in LOVE
they pull back and kinda stand there awkwardly for a few seconds before both of them start grinning
and they both know its fragile, that they’ve hurt each other and trust was cracked, but it wasn’t broken completely, and they can fix this. they believe in each other and that’s enough for now.
and then they go find virgil at his house
roman knocks on the door and virgil opens it and just. glares at roman. and roman starts rambling apologies and explanations and tries to tell virgil about their plan and did he mention he’s sorry
virgil kinda just stares at him as he goes on and on and the only thing that stops him is patton running out and launching himself at roman
then logan appears behind virgil, and virgil kinda just smiles
“glad to have u back. again.”
and then they go sneak into pulitzer’s basement and print the article with jan’s writing and ro’s drawings and remus’ descriptions and the other newsies go spread the papers ALL around the city
the next morning EVERYONE is out on strike!!! u cant get ANYWHERE without seeing ppl, newsies or otherwise, filling the streets with chants of “seize the day”
roman, with the Bro Trio and Janus trailing close behind, waltzs on in to pulitzer’s office and flings the money pulitzer gave him back on the desk and is like whatcha gonna do NOW, joe??
pulitzer angrily tells them he’s a fool for going back on their deal and logan steps in sayin pulitzer is a fool for letting this get so out of hand over a 10 cent price increase. his sales are down 70%!! objectively the price increase was like the worst business decision ever
virgil’s like plus it’s making u look bad that ur business is the reason most of these kids are suffering. people really love kids, mr pulitzer and patton smiles brightly but in like a menacing way
then emile walks in with a ~dazzling smile~ and is like ur son told me about this whole situation, it’d be a shame if i contacted my good friend governor roosevelt who won’t be as kind as these brave newsies since u tried so hard to stop him from being elected :)
((in the show roosevelt is actually there but i want emile to have a moment to SHINE))
so pulitzer’s like FINE and talks to roman alone and roman wears him down, throwing words from janus, virgil, and pulitzer himself right in pulitzer’s face until FINALLY they have a deal. he’ll lower the prices by half AND pulitzer will buy back whatever they don’t sell full price
roman bursts out of the office into the streets where all the newsies are waiting and is like WE WONNN
and since they published all that stuff about the refuge in the paper, the guy who runs it is being arrested and REMUS IS FREE
the twins hug for like a full two minutes
then pulitzer offers roman a job as a political cartoonist and roman’s like. well idk now that this is over i should probably...head out
bc lowkey he’s thinking virgil still doesn’t wanna see roman ever again and he did say he would leave, so
but then virgil’s like come on, ro, you don’t really think we want u to leave, do u? what’s santa fe got that new york aint? tarantulas? sandstorms? stampedes? you can’t go to santa fe what if you DIE—
and logan says new york’s got us!
patton: and we’re family, right?
then janus is like you got a union to lead! and...you got me.
and remus is like bro, anyone can dream, all you do is close ur eyes! but some made up world is all you’ll ever see. (bc he’s the wordsy one, u see. he helps roman have the poetic realization that his santa fe isn’t real, but this IS)
so roman says well if u guys INSIST.....and then he takes jan’s hand and kinda asks w his eyes and then kisses jan in front of all the newsies who proceed to cheer obnoxiously
when they break apart roman leads janus by the hand over to the paper-buying-cart and slaps some couns down on the table and BUYS SOME PAPERS BC THEYRE NEWSIES BABEY
and everyone lived happily ever after🥰

Questionnaire 1
Cosmo
What is their name, gender, and age?
And he is a 5yr(26 year old), male tortoiseshell Manx cat
What are three adjectives to describe them?
Well Mannered, Wide-eyed, Free spirited
Do they have a human home or are they a stray? If they have a human home, what is their home life like? If they are a stray, what is life like on the streets?
Technically a stray, but the family of the house he used to live by would give him and his family some scraps and water sometimes.
What is their ‘role’ within the tribe, or what are they known for? (Ex: Tugger is the curious cat/rockstar, Gus is the theatre cat, Mistoffelees is the magician, Munkustrap is the Jellicle Protector, Jelly is seen as a caretaker, etc)
He’ll probably be known as “Cosmo the Swingin’ Cat”. He doesn’t have a role yet, but everyone likes his presence and to hear some of his stories from the country. He is good with the kittens, being sort of a big kitten himself.
Who are their best friends? You can include characters from the show or tag other people’s OC’s. How popular are they?
He's sort of popular. His main friends that he made have been Bastion, Damus, Hayato and Coquette and Marikit. But it's safe to say that he's made friends with nearly everyone, some are interested in him because of his accent and that he lacks a tail.
What is their favorite food? Do they prefer human food or something they’ve hunted?
He likes chicken and eggs, but isnt picky either. He used to live in the backwoods of the country, so he knows how to hunt. But hell get away with a bit of begging when he wants a taste of human food.
Do they have any accessories? Scars? Why or why not?
He wears suspenders and baggy pants along with a newsboy cap hat.
What style of dance do they work best in?
Tap dance and swing
Do they have any sort of magic? Do they fear magic?
He was a little scared at first because he had never seen magic or grew up with it before. But now he is really enchanted by it.
Any fears?
He is of birds. The big ones in particular like hawks and owls. He saw one snatch up an older cat across the street where he used to live one day as a kitten and it has haunted him ever since.
Do they believe in love? If so, what is their “type” and how do they act when they are in love? If not, then why?
He is a romantic at heart, so he believes in love. When he is in love, he tries to hide his face with his hat from how big and goofy he's smiling.
Do they personally know anyone who has gone up to the Heaviside layer? Do they believe in the Heaviside?
No he doesn't. He never even heard about the Heaviside Layer. When he does, he sometimes thinks that his Ma and Pa might be there.
Any passions or hobbies? (Ex: Dance, hunting, etc)
Besides dancing, he likes to do woodwork making all kinds of figures.
If a song was sung about them at the Jellicle Ball, what would it be about?
It would be about Cosmo and his voyage from the states to England and would definitely have swing kind of music. He would sing about his life on the countryside and his adventures going from boats to planes to trains traveling across the sea to where he is now.
What are their thoughts on some of the main characters in the show? (Ex: Tugger, Munk, Jenny, you get to choose!)
It's safe to say he likes nearly everyone. He likes to talk to Skimbleshanks and Jenny; they remind him of his parents. He's friends with Alonzo and Plato and Tumblebrutus. He finds Tugger a little strange, but he doesn't think badly of him.
Do they have any secrets they are hiding?
None
Questionnaire 2
What are they like on the outside?
He’s a polite, happy-go-lucky gentleman who kind of has a flirtatious streak, but is also very curious and adventurous when it comes to new surroundings.
How do others perceive them?
Some might of him as a childish hick or a shameless flirt who knows nothing about the world around him and doesn’t know when he is being taken advantage of.
What are they actually like on the inside? Are they similar to how they are on the outside, or totally different?
he is a little bit of both because in some ways, they way some see him is completely true. But he is actually smarter than he looks and is more sensitive to other's feelings than some think. He knows that some things that he says come out a different kind of way, but he means no harm and thinks anyone should be treated the way he'd want to be treated.
How many cats truly know who they are on the inside? Does your character often show who they truly are?
He is an open book. He doesnt hide anything about him.
What makes your character appealing to other cats? What reason do others have to like them?
A lot of cats like to hear him talk because of his accent and him having no tail is a conversation starter. He will joke about having no tail and make up a story about how he lost it.
What flaws does your character have? Do they give anyone any reason to dislike them?
He is a bit gullible and can be tricked easily when not paying attention to his surroundings. Sometimes things that he says sounds more like flirting than what he thinks is a compliment and that gets him in trouble sometimes.
Can they fight?
He can. But even with how toned he is in some areas, he has a lean build, so he’s not too strong
Do they often get into fights? What do they get into fights over?
No. He tries not to get into fights, but he will if necessary
Who are their parents? Are they alive? Do we know what they are like personality wise? Does your character have any sort of contact with them?
His Ma and Pa have passed away a long time ago of old age, but he knows they’re in a better place.
Do they have any siblings or other relatives?
He has no other siblings, but considers the neighbourhood cats back home part of his family.
(If they have a home) How did they end up in their current home? (If they’re a stray) How did they end up on the streets?
He has no current home as of yet. He has just been sleeping wherever it was dry and safe. Hes been sleeping in a wood box outside of a restaurant for the time being.
What was their childhood like?
He was born a stray living with his Ma' and Pa' in a barn next to wildlife in the American countryside. He was taught how to hunt and dance, but was also taught manners and being a good tom. It was a laidback life on the farm and going into the human town, but out in the woods was pretty tough and you had to always be on your guard.
What was the worst experience they ever had to go through, in their opinion?
2 experiences. one being when he saw the hawk catch his neighbor up as a kid. And the other where he wasn’t paying attention and was nearly stomped on by a farm bull.
Do they potentially have a crush or a mate? Have they ever been in love?
He comes to like Marikit (another friends oc from discord) when he first arrives. He has had a few crushes, but they were from as a kitten. He a little embarrassed by it now, but one time when he was younger he tried to put the moves on a fox whom he thought was another cat. but he soon realized what she was and was kinda interrupting her waiting for someone else.
Who do they look up to?
Besides his parents, he looked up to his neighbor who was an old cat before he was snatched away.
Greatest achievement?
He thinks with how much he has traveled without getting thrown off is a pretty good accomplishment. He also feels kinda proud that he rode on a running horse once (even though him and his claws were the reason it was running in a frenzy)
Do they have any pet peeves?
Not really.
How do they react to a compliment? An insult?
To a compliment, he's pretty humble, but depending on the cat, he’d try not to get too flustered and grin like an idiot. To an insult, he's not one to get too upset about things, but if it does too far and if it's someone else getting the flack, that would be enough to get him pissed off.
What are they best at?
Dancing, Singing, Woodcrafting,  Sneaking and Begging
What do they often fail at?
He might take a joke too far or too long, so he ends up apologizing.
What assumptions do others make about them and how does your oc react to them?
Some might label him as a dumb, naive hick while others see him as a very sweet and energetic guy to be around.
How many languages do they speak? Do they have an accent?
He can only speak english. And he has a southern accent.
Do they label their sexuality? (Pan, Gay, straight, etc)
Male, Bisexual
What is their ‘outlet’? How do they express themselves?
Woodwork and working with metal. Besides wood dolls, he has little side projects of sculptures or figures made out of metal. They take a while to make though so he only has a few completed.
Are they secretly worried about anything? (Worried about a friend, the future, family, etc.
He's thinks about the neighbor's and other animal friends back at home and worries about their well being sometimes. He might want to visit back once in a while.
