CHARLIE YOU GOTTA TELL ME ABOUT THE MONSTER ROMANCES AT SOME POINT I AM
OH HO HO When I'm asked about my novels I am ACTIVATED like a sleeper agent lmao Night of the Wolf is like, Romeo and Juliet plus werewolves with a time travel element and a civil war that's all about love and freedom and patience and our own choices corralling us into the inevitable. It is my baby. I'll send you pages from a previous draft (I'm in the middle of rewrites so I don't have anything super current to send) Larkspur is the story of a healing woman who goes to the matriarch of a local Orc clan after a near death experience at the hands of bandits, seeking out help protecting her little town that's at the edge of human territory. It's about community, healing from abusive relationships and learning to trust again and working to build something better together. And also about a huge hot orc woman. Heart of the Ocean: A princess flees her terrible husband on their wedding night and strikes out on her own, determined to find both purpose and several relics stolen from her late father. She runs into a handsome (orc) pirate captain who's strangely searching for the same items, and after robbing him and running away twice (lmao he gets so steamed about it) she joins his quest to find the Heart of the Ocean so that they can protect the Island kingdoms from the grasp of the Elven Empire. Heart of Clay: Ada is forced into an engagement to pay off a family loan, and is attacked by the demon that has haunted her nightmares for many years on the way to her wedding. When she wakes, she finds herself under the protection of a strange nobleman with golden eyes, who promises her protection if she marries him instead. But it soon becomes clear that he isn't being honest about who he is, and Ada has secrets of her own that threaten the fragile peace that they've found with each other. Angel of Avanti: A young nobleman finds a winged devil bleeding in his garden, who was being hunted by his uncle's soldiers. He helps her rather than turn her in, and finds himself the object of her unnerving affections. But why does she seem so guilty when he speaks of his late parents? And what does she know about his uncle's rise to power that she can't tell him? Also she's like seven feet tall. Can you tell I've got a thing about giant women?
ANYWAY I have like several chapters of most of these if you're interested I can share some snippets with you because these are my babies and I'm in love with these stories.
#Cave answers#mortuarywriting#Morg I love you thank you for giving me an opportunity to rant about my non-fanfiction projects#Cave Writing

Okay, so I’m fresh off of reading These Violent Delights, and until under the cut it’s going to be spoiler-free but it’s all ramble.
Would definitely recommend this book, especially to people who had trouble getting into Romeo and Juliet or haven’t read it since a high school english class. It’s a significantly less strenuous read but nonetheless still full of depth and beauty and the soul of the original tragedy.
BIG spoilers under cut, if you haven’t already please enjoy the book first.
I did manage to loosely predict some things, like that one of the Dexters was probably the Larkspur, and that the Larkspur was the source of the insects.
The Larkspur being the source of the insects and then basically monopolizing the vaccine on it made me wonder if Chloe Gong is maybe a fan of Exoptable Money, Presentable Liberty’s lesser-known prequel. I saw very broad similarities between the plans of Paul Dexter with his insects and Dr. Money with his virus. It was actually those similarities that had me honing in on the Larkspur once he and his cure kept popping up beyond showcasing scammers taking advantage out the outbreak.
That being said, there was still a lot in the book to surprise me, some probably intended by the author and others were just me being slow.
Good twist by author: Qi Ren being the monster. More or less perfectly boils down the backdrop of the book’s setting where white westerners are continuously moving in to colonize Shanghai and either oust or control the Chinese people in their own city. Qi Ren was a victim of a white British guy who thought human suffering was not just acceptable but perfectly fine as long as his pockets were lined. Perfect thematically, really, and speaks to what was going on in Shanghai generally, just with maybe less insects.
That’s some nice, tight writing.
Me being dumb: Not realizing Lourens is Friar Lawrence until Juliette picks up the fake death stuff.
Marshall (for now) dodging the mirror fate of Mercutio gives me hope Roma and Juliette can do the same, though I suspect it might end up along the lines of how the Anastasia Broadway play ended, with them having to fake their deaths and leave Shanghai and change their names to live in peace.
I noticed we still don’t know who the White Flower spy in the Scarlet Gang’s inner circle is. I’m guessing its Rosalind. The book’s been dropping hints that she’s not as close or loyal to Juliette than Kathleen, and honestly while I understand her reasons for being stressed, my opinion of her is hovering low right now for putting Kathleen’s life and identity in danger. I’m also sensing a thread where she’s maybe not got her twin’s best interests in mind considering Juliette was the one who intervened on Kathleen’s behalf regarding Amethyst and Rosalind was willing to leverage Kathleen’s precarious position against her. Which is... something a good sister doesn’t stoop to, but I’m curious to see where it leads.
OOOOOO I WANNA PUNCH TYLER IN THE TEETH OOOO. I hate smugass men with no tact who make situations worse because they’re too narrow-minded. Perfect little shit to crawl under my skin and I hope Juliette becomes his worst nightmare.
Speaking of Juliette and Roma I love them. “Cute” seems to be the wrong word to describe them, considering the “cute” era of their relationship is long over, but they’re pain and longing and they got me invested enough that I want to see them happy together. We got like a blip but that was it. Both of them honestly deserve their own little blurbs but I feel I’m cultivating a Juliette bias.
My copy of Our Violent Ends is waiting for me, but I’ve got an obligation to finish Zachary Ying and the Dragon Emperor first. But I’m so glad I picked these books up when I was at the bookstore, and in hardcover too. Hoping to get them signed maybe someday.

you ask val for anime recommendations and it's literally just an average 48-episode shonen with a massive cast and a fun main trio. you tell him that and he'll tell you exactly why he's obsessed with the lore and that the fight scenes are insane. and also he doesn't like any of that romance bullshit. there is literally 0 romance bullshit and the entire thing is a pure adrenaline rush
you ask bridget for anime recommendations and it's a surprisingly coherent and well-written fusion of a shonen and a romcom with well-written and powerful female characters. there's at least two characters with childhood trauma. the mc has her own circle of friends and there's possibly some yuri vibes. the anime will make you feel things and the ending will either make you cry or make you feel so happy you can't move for three hours
you ask larkspur for anime recommendations and it's a low-fantasy romance anime with sometimes contradictory worldbuilding which feels deliberately engineered to produce borderline bdsm. he said it was like romeo and juliet but you're pretty sure romeo didn't murder five people for the sake of juliet's love. the ending was awful. you will never admit to anyone that you watched the whole thing.

These Violent Delights Review (contains spoilers)
Where to begin with this book? I finished it almost two weeks ago, but I put off reviewing it because I had a lot of thoughts about it and a lot of ranting to friends to do before I felt calm enough to write an actual review. I personally dislike rant reviews and didn’t want to be the author of one. And it’s not like I hated this book! It had so much potential! I still think the concept was great! But I had so many craft problems with this book that I actually started writing notes and using page flags to keep track of everything that bothered me. I don’t normally do that!
So here we go. TLDR: Brilliant idea, terrible execution.
I split my page flags into 3 categories while reading: language, character, and gang-related (which ended up becoming worldbuilding in general). All of these informed my thoughts on what I found to be the biggest problem with this book in the end, which was the fact that it was a retelling. Or rather, it was supposed to be. This book is marketed as “Romeo and Juliet in 1920s Shanghai,” but it really, really does not want to be Romeo and Juliet. It is fighting that framework with everything it’s got. It makes me think that the idea of retelling Romeo and Juliet, regardless of setting, was probably the original inspiration for the book, but it definitely outgrew the play. The author needed to just let the retelling go and let the story be free.
What really firmly convinced me that this should not have been a R&J retelling was actually the author’s note in the back of the book. Gong talks about how, though there was no blood feud between two gangs at this time, she tried to keep the story as true to history as possible. So she lists all of the groups that were vying for power in 1920s Shanghai, all of whom were featured in the story in some way. And that’s exactly the problem. From a political perspective, Romeo and Juliet is a very simple play. There are only three groups with power: the Montagues, the Capulets, and the Prince. In 1920s Shanghai, there were always at least four (counting all the foreigners as one group) and, with her added blood feud, there’s always at least FIVE. If you have three other powerful groups running around causing problems, it pretty much takes all the intensity of your blood feud out of your blood feud. With everything else that was going on with the Communists, Nationalists, and foreigners, whenever the blood feud between the gangs came up, I was always sort of like, “Why is this here? It feels so pointless. What could it possibly add to the story?” All it really did was slow everything down because the gangs refused to work with each other, and add a layer of ~forbiddenness~ to the main romance. The actual plot of the story, about a British businessman unleashing a madness-inducing insect upon Shanghai, had literally nothing to do with the blood feud.
It would have made more sense to insert Roma and Juliette into two of the existing powers of historical Shanghai, and, indeed, Gong almost did: Roma could have been part of the “foreigners” block, like Paul Dexter. But for some reason the White Flowers were treated as separate from the foreigners for reasons I don’t totally understand. In the author’s note, Gong talks about how the Russian refugees in Shanghai never actually held much power, but that there was a reason she made them equal in power to the Scarlet Gang in this story. She doesn’t ever actually give that reason. Basically, as I read the author’s note, I kept thinking, “Then why didn’t you write about this? Or that? Or that? Why did you add all this stuff, when the actual history is more interesting?”
The other things that made this feel really unlike Romeo and Juliet are all character and gang-related. The thing that makes Romeo and Juliet WORK is that the characters, even when foolish and impulsive, COMMIT to the foolish and impulsive decisions they make. And those decisions have MASSIVE consequences. In a short series of fatal moves, they bind themselves to their fates. But halfway through this book, in the middle of yet another argument about what should be done (if anything) about the madness, I stopped and thought to myself, what has been done? What have these characters actually been doing? I was halfway through the book and it felt like nothing had happened. Sure, people had died and guns had been fired, but what were the consequences? Had anything actually CHANGED? It was at that point that I began to add page flags and take notes. I was tired and frustrated by the endless pages of characters waffling around Shanghai, having the same arguments over and over, and not accomplishing anything. This book was paced like it was written by the seat of Gong’s pants during NaNoWriMo, and then never underwent any significant structural edits. (The meanest my rants about this book ever got was after I finished it and described it to my twin as “sound and fury, signifying nothing.” But that’s still what most of it felt like.)
One of the best examples of what I mean is a persistent problem I had with Juliette that was both character- and gang-related. Basically: there’s a point in the book where she thinks that everyone in Shanghai can recognize her on sight (and indeed, this does happen) because she’s the heir to a very powerful gang and she dresses in American clothes. So far so good. But on another occasion, she raids some place in pursuit of the Larkspur with Roma at her side in front of at least a hundred witnesses, and then….nothing. She doesn’t find the Larkspur, and later when talking to one of her cousins, she worries that her cousin might have learned about what she did. But then she thinks, no, it’s not possible that anyone knows I did that with Roma! And she’s right. SHE’S RIGHT. She waved her gun around and shouted in front of at least a hundred people, and was clearly working with Roma while she did it, AND NO ONE FOUND OUT. Things like this happened over and over with Juliette. Normally I’d love an interpretation of Juliet who’s so hot-headed and driven, but she got away with SO MUCH without ever being recognized or experiencing any consequences. In the end, my suspension of disbelief broke. Juliette’s antics, and consequently all the rest of the gang-related drama, became melodrama. It made me roll my eyes. I just couldn’t believe it anymore. This whole thing with Juliette wasn’t the only gang-related thing that frustrated me, but it was the biggest one.
In an effort to give Gong the benefit of the doubt: Romeo and Juliet can be read quite melodramatically. Maybe this is the effect she intended? Maybe she wanted us not to take it seriously?
But that brings me to my next point: at times, this book seemed to take itself TOO seriously. I got this impression mostly from the language. My initial reaction to the prose was, “Wow, this is so beautiful!” Eventually, though, it mostly just seemed purple. I kept wanting to cut sentences in half. It was like it couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be a normal YA book or if it wanted to emulate William Shakespeare. So in the end, it mostly just seemed like an overwritten YA book in which the characters spouted needlessly flowery lines that just sounded silly. Again, it became melodrama. This was actually the first thing I started page-flagging.
The problem with the language wasn’t just silly though; it also had a detrimental effect on the plot and characterization. At times, the book was written in third-person omniscient and at times it was in third-person close. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but with the confusion of the plot I described above, it became difficult to keep track of who knew what. There were two separate times in the book when the characters discovered something about the monster and I thought, “Wait….didn’t everyone already know that?” One of these times was within the last twenty or so pages. I’m trying to stay calm right now, but it was unbelievably frustrating for something that had been obvious since the first page to be realized by one of the main characters at the very end of the book. I wanted to scream. I wanted to throw the book across the room. But it is very pretty, so I didn’t.
The detrimental effect the language had on character was mostly that I never felt like I knew any of the characters. They’re fond of reminiscing dramatically on the past, but all we ever get are random details and no actual story. I kept waiting for a flashback that never came. I’m not a huge fan of flashbacks, but this book really, really could have used one. Both Roma and Juliette are very poetic about their shared history, but it all rang hollow because I felt like I had nothing real to grasp onto. They played games by the docks and killed each other’s loved ones? That’s pretty much all I got. By the end of the book, I still had no idea why they even liked each other. It’s mentioned several times that they thought they could end the blood feud, but, given how the blood feud pales in comparison to the actual history of Shanghai, that didn’t seem like much. The blood feud is not Shanghai’s biggest problem historically or in this book! So why should I care?
So we come back to the main problem of this book not feeling like Romeo and Juliet. It doesn’t want to be Romeo and Juliet! It is begging to be something else! The real causes of turmoil in Shanghai at this point in history were the foreign powers and the workers’ strikes. Gong says that herself! She made the foreigners the villain, which I think was a very good choice, but the workers’ strikes and growing Communist party just ended up feeling like set dressing. Background scenery. It added nothing to the plot but a red herring. In the authors’ note, Gong says that if she had followed history more closely, there would have been strikes in every chapter. I can understand why that would seem overwhelming, but if she didn’t wanted to include the workers’ strikes, then maybe….this should have been set….in a different time period….because this time period….has too many political elements….for an R&J retelling to work…. Just a thought! Or maybe she should have tossed R&J, which is the option I prefer, because the actual history is, as I have said before, much more interesting than a fictional blood feud between gangs.
In an effort to not be entirely negative about this book, I do have a mild interest in reading a comparison of this book with The Beetle by Richard Marsh. The Beetle is a Victorian novel and, like many Victorian novels, it’s about Britain’s fear of reverse-colonization, or being infiltrated by one of the countries’ they’ve invaded. In The Beetle, the infiltration comes in the form of a scarab from Egypt that carries some curse. I don’t remember all the details, since I read the book several years ago, but I found it interesting that this book had a similar concept of foreign invasion via insects. I think it would be interesting to compare the two, especially since they have opposite perspectives on British imperialism.
So, in summary: I think the idea of this book was great. I would have loved to read a retelling of Romeo and Juliet set in 1920s Shanghai that worked; unfortunately, for a variety of craft problems related to pacing, worldbuilding, characterization, and language, I don’t think this book worked at all. It wanted to be so much more than a Romeo and Juliet retelling, and the author should have let it.
Am I going to read the second book? Maaayyybe. I might get curious enough about the backstory to see whether she puts it in that book. But if I do read it, I’m getting it from the library.
#these violent delights#books#booklr#well here it is#i tried to be calm about it but this was the most frustrating book i've ever read#i know most people loved this book but i did not#& i spent so long thinking about why i didn't that i might as well explain it

larkspur wish
Why did men long ago sing to the skies When they burned hot with scorching honeyed flame When the graphite waters began to rise Why did their hope remain ever the same? Did they inspire sweet, naïve Juliet Who begged sharp, bleeding dawn to never shine? Are they the larkspur wish for dead moonset That Romeo made for his lover fine? For love, they so desperately hope, alters The fingers, bladed hands, of cruel time Like mortal words could change the universe— But to challenge stars, is that not a crime? For if my lips bleed when you I speak of How can worlds be changed by mere poppy love?

Book Review 10/25/2022: These Violent Delights (SPOILERS!!)
I feel like I should start off stating that this book lives up to it’s name. It is pretty violent. There’s murder, gore, parents being abusive, gang violence, mentions of communists, just a lot of violence in general to be honest.
This novel was a spur of the moment buy in October 2021. Before this moment I’ve never heard of this book. Let alone the author. So, I went in without knowledge of what this is about. I did read the first paragraph before deciding to purchase it. That first paragraph had me hooked, so I bought it. A week or so later I found out it has a sequel.
Shanghai 1926 reimagining of Romeo & Juliet. Scarlet Gang (Chinese) versus White Flower (Russian). Cai family is Scarlet Gang. Montagov family is White Flowers. Of course there’s a blood feud between the two families with a mix of betrayal, romance, and supernatural lice like creatures.
Yeah, you read that correctly. When these lice like creatures burrows into the human, the human goes mad. This madness causes the victim to claw their throat out. It’s a concept that I hadn’t read (not that I can remember at least) before. It’s different but I liked it.
I can’t stand Juliette’s cousin Tyler. He irritated me to no end. I think he’s the only character that made my blood boil. One duo I truly loved was Marshall Seo (Korean) and Benedikt Montagov. At least I think Benedikt is a Montagov. Also up until chapter fourteen I had thought these two were in their thirties. It’s their mannerisms that led me to this conclusion. Turns out Benedikt is NINETEEN. I think Marshall is either one year younger, the same age, or one year older. I’m not 100% sure because I already forgot.
Speaking of ages I’m not sure how old Juliette is. I’m sure it’s mentioned somewhere in the book, I just can’t remember. If I did the math correctly Roma is nineteen. I admit I panicked when a semi steamy scene between Roma and Juliette happened. I still panicked even after I figured out that they’re both 18 or 19 years old. I just, I dunno, I don’t feel comfortable reading steamy scenes of characters that still have the word teen in their age, I feel so much worse when the characters are minors. I personally don’t feel comfortable about that.
That steamy scene made me tear up a bit. Just to clarify both of them did consent. It’s just the conversation they were having while they were holding each other. Four years prior Roma had some of her people killed. This is the betrayal I mentioned. Juliette confronts him about it. In that moment all he could say was he had no choice. Later on, during a second confrontation, it’s revealed that Roma was ordered, by his father, to kill Juliette. His father found out about their romance. Then he was given a choice. Attack Scarlet Gang or kill Juliette. Of course he chose to attack because he loves her too much.
The way Juliette had betrayed Roma was just as harsh. Before departing for America, she gave the address of where his mom resided to Scarlet Gang members. With that information they had gone to the address and slit the woman’s throat. To save face White Flowers told everyone that an illness killed her. For four years Roma had no idea that it was Juliette who gave the address. When she confessed to this my heart broke for Roma.
So, about supernatural stuff and madness. Turns out the lice like creatures come from a monster. When it’s revealed who the monster is and who Larkspur is I got mad at myself. The reason is because ALL THE SIGNS WERE THERE!! Somehow my brain didn’t register any of them. For real, Paul Dexter made it way too easy for Juliette to find Larkspur. Then he had the audacity to say he loves her and that all he was trying to do was impress her. Qi Ren turned out to be the monster. He seemed to accept his death in the end. This would imply that he didn’t want to hurt people. Maybe he was just following orders.
The chapter before the epilogue was intense and heartbreaking. This is when Juliette confesses her betrayal. Marshall “dies”. That destroys Benedikt. They are my favorite duo, but I wonder if there will be romance between them. I’ll find out in the sequel, I hope. Otherwise I’m gonna throw hands with the author. (Obviously that is a joke and not meant to be taken seriously.) I do hope the best for all of these guys. Except Tyler, he can step on a lego. Or I hope he steps on a lego with his bare foot.
This book was a fantastic read to me. I recommend it to the world.

These Violent Delights chapters 30 & 31
Click to see the rest of the snark & image descriptions
Chapter 30
Roma’s eyes were blank. His posture was easy, spine straight. “Let’s go,” he said.
Chapter 30 summary: Juliette destroys some flowers, and a concerned Kathleen stops her. Juliette takes off and randomly wanders into White Flower territory, which is a lot easier for her to do since she’s Chinese and… well. This is China. Literally none of this is important.
There’s a random aside where Marshal reports that he saw Juliette wandering the streets. Then Roma catches up with her. She demands to know why he’d chucked the bomb into the Scarlet’s servant quarters. He tells her that his dad found out about their secret relationship, and told his son to go kill Juliette. Roma knew that he couldn’t kill his girlfriend, so he proposed to blow up the servant’s house instead. It’s also worth noting that the two of them were 15 years old at the time. And I don’t care about the gang BS… it’s a fucked up thing to do to ask a 15 year old to go murder his girlfriend because she’s red and you’re white.
Juliette is like “well, now that we’ve cleared that up, we’ve got too much drama going on to dig up old wounds. Let’s go solve this mystery.” Which is honestly kind of my thoughts on it. Like the author might have set out to write Chinese Romeo and Juliet, but the only interesting thing she’s bringing to the table is the mystery aspect of this story.
Chapter 31
“With what do they take issue?” Tyler sneered. “How dare they revolt against those who give them safety!”
“They do not view it as such,” Andong replied. “The workers who are not dying from the madness are dying from starvation. They’re lining up en masse for that stupid vaccine, and instead of blaming this blasted Larkspur for overcharging, they worship him for the safety of his magical vials and blame the Scarlet factories for not paying enough to let them have both the vaccine and food.”
Tyler straight up with zero hesitation admitted that he’s a shitty leader. He might as well have said “let them eat cake”.
And then he wonders why it is that Juliette is the heir and not himself.
“Cansun said he witnessed Miss Juliette in White Flower territory. He said he saw her…” Andong trailed off.
“Spit it out,” Tyler snapped.
“He saw her with Roma Montagov.”
How do you say “snitches get stitches” in Chinese?
Tyler had seen them. He could not hear their conversation, but he had seen them—working together, reaching out for each other. “Tā mā de, Juliette,” he muttered. “Traitor.”
Chapter 31 summary: The chapter opens with… what I can only describe to you as Tyler being a shitty person. Somebody reports to him that a worker strike resulted in the foreman being found with a meat cleaver in his skull. And… well. You read what Tyler said earlier. He legit doesn’t understand why people are so worked up. The guy also reports that Juliette and Roma were seen together in White Flower territory.
Juliette and Roma go to the Larkspur address Archibald had given them the day before. They try to get info, but then Larkspur tries to shoot them. He tells them that Zhang is trying to turn himself into the monster. Which… okay. Sure. Why not? And that it’s Zhang who is giving Larkspur information on how to cure it.
Naturally, the entire thing doesn’t sit right with either of them. Why would you turn yourself into a monster to cause the insanity and then immediately turn around and sell the answers to a guy who’s going to cure the insanity?
As they leave the building, they come upon a group of protestors who are screaming “down with the gangsters!” Roma worries that they’re too close to the hospital where Alisa is, and they might storm inside and kill everybody in there. (Which seems weird to randomly kill a little girl who is comatose, but whatever.)
Juliette says that they have to kill Zhang right now. And that they can’t gather their forces. She asks that Roma leave and only gather those he can trust.
Also, Tyler saw this last part. So I’m sure that the entire thing will go sideways and people are going to get hurt simply because of two groups being shitty towards one another.

Text
Two truths one lie.
Our favourite game.
“I’ll never leave you” Physically or emotionally I couldn’t quite figure out, yet another hook you left out, but I knew we’d be Paris and Juliet some day. Unfortunately fate has a thing for romantics: see act 5
“Your fault for loving someone unavailable” I inevitably find myself in my confusion once more repeating to myself: no matter how breathtaking, larkspur still kill.
“I love you” Your lips always had a habit of curving and preening whenever you were burdened by the weight of your own ice. You could never comprehend tenderness in phrases- no matter how tongue and cheek you’d let powerful idioms slip out after your severed tongue. Believe what you want but everyone knows how full of fucking shit you are.

The Bolshoi Ballet
Executive Director of the Lark Theater in Larkspur, Ellie Mednick confirms that Bolshoi Ballet in cinema attendance averages about 50 people. Though a fairly modest number for a 236 capacity theater – particularly when most operas sell out and live theater generates a three quarters full audience, comparatively – over the last three Bolshoi seasons, ballet attendance has increased. On the even brighter note, local ballet-students benefit with free tickets to help fill seats.

CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, Marc Allenby shares, “We regularly screen in over 60 countries. There is a dedicated core audience who buy into seeing the full season, in part motivated by the breadth of work and the curatorial balance provided by the Royal Ballet. In this current season the forthcoming Swan Lake will appeal to a wider audience and will perform on a par with the more commercial opera and theater shows in cinema. We have great respect for all organisations working in the ‘event cinema’ space and collectively are really pushing the boundaries in a virgin industry. Trafalgar Releasing are ambitious and committed to this space and expect to see more growth in 2018, we have just started setting up our US team to help develop the good work we have done here over the last 5 or so years and are exploring similar plans in other markets. As a distributor, Trafalgar Releasing is set up so we can be involved in a multitude of ways on a release… from financing, producing, marketing, physical distribution, cinema sales and box office reconciliation. We work very much in partnership with the team in Covent Garden to pool our expertise to achieve the best results.”
Head of Marketing and Enterprises at the Royal Ballet, Jeff Coventry shars, “We are currently in our second season working with Trafalgar Releasing and are very happy with how things are progressing. Generally speaking, opera and ballet are equally popular, but this does fluctuate depending on the production. Revenue is an important but secondary objective, bringing a new revenue stream to the organisation over the past five years. Cinema sales are growing both nationally and internationally.”
