Alright so I’ve wanted to say this for awhile and it is actually my primary reason for creating this account lol. Just to clarify first though, I love horror, and more importantly I love unrealistic horror so please take everything I say with a grain of salt and do not think I’m trying to tell anyone how to write as that is not the case, I simply am really interested in this kinda thing and believe in the sharing of knowledge.

Anyways,

Embalmed bodies don’t really rot.

Embalming is the preservation of the body by replacing the blood with embalming solution and some formaldehyde, it makes the body a unfavourable food or nutrient source for any kind of bug or microorganisms which would cause decomposition.

If someone in your story is dead and you want them to be a rotting corpse then most realistically they’d have had a direct burial since embalmed body’s arnt supposed to decompose and typically if there was an open casket an embalming would have had to have taken place.

Again this does not mean you have to change your story or how you write in anyway at all, just wanted to share the reality for anyone interested.

WIP Wednesday

A bit of a character study/me skipping ahead/dynamic fun stuff etc?

This is so far down the line for the price x single!mom verse it's not even funny, but I wanted to write it out and see how I feel about it when we actually get to this point in the fic. John goes a wee bit off the fucking deep end :)

Y'all know the drill! No pressure, feel free to post a snippet of something you're working on.

“You won’t always be around, you know.” Michael has apparently decided he’s not partial to being above ground anymore.

The smoke from John’s cigar coils in him before he exhales slowly. Realistically he knows that Love is a sore spot for him and he’s willing to do anything for her, and yet he’s still caught off guard by the depth of the rage that washes over him in an all consuming fire.

“Would you like to clarify that for me?” Wouldn’t want to go flying off the handle after all if this is simply a misunderstanding.

“You talk a lot of shit for a guy who fucks off the second your phone rings. That clarify things for you? I don’t know what you or the blonde did to fuck with those results, but I know Sam is my fucking kid and I’ll be damned if you twats are going to get in my way.”

As Michael throws down his inane gauntlet, John exhales his now-final drag on the cigar, eyes flicking across his surroundings to gauge who is looking.

The man sure has a knack for picking the worst fucking spot to threaten the family of a man whose job is to work outside the constraints of red tape. They’re just secluded enough that Kate can see them if she looks but no one else can. And Kate certainly won’t give a fuck about what John’s about to do.

Without doubt, John knows that Michael expects to buffalo his way through this conversation and stalk off feeling he’s done something. Because the average citizen cannot do what John is about to- wouldn’t even consider it.

It’s the sheer confidence that John won’t put his hands on Michael that lets him snatch the other man up by his collar and shove him further out of sight from any prying eyes.

He opens his mouth to protest John’s grip on him, the perfect opportunity for him to shove the smoldering end of his cigar into the man’s mouth.

John has just enough impulse control to not extinguish the damn thing on the back of his throat, settling for the knowledge that the flurry of movement has knocked the ash loose into the other man’s throat.

“I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page before we have this little talk,” John snarls. “I can be on the other side of the world and it doesn’t fucking matter, am I clear? If I catch wind of you sniffing around when you think I’m distracted, you’re going to find out exactly what I am capable of for a guy who fucks off the second his phone rings.”

John pulls out the cigar and shoves the other man away from him. “If we have to have this conversation again, I’ll be shoving the barrel of my service weapon in your mouth next and painting the fucking walls, understood? There will be a point where I decide you’re more hassle alive than dead.”

He’s not mollified in the slightest by the way Michael’s legs shake and he suddenly can’t look John in the eye- all the bravado sucked out of him with the realization that John is not beholden to the same rules he is.

“You’re fucking insane,” he sputters, hunching over and trying to cough up the ash.

“If you’ve got any sense to you, you’ll stay off my shit list.” John advises before tossing the remains of the cigar in the bin.

“Now if you’ll excuse me- I’m taking the missus and the rugrat out for lunch.”

I'm just slowly working away on my series if I'm honest. I have a few ideas for short fics but I haven't written anything down for those.

Forgotten Sorrows Ch 7 Redo- Fae!Soap x Female Reader ( I didn't like the first version i did of this chapter so I'm writing it again. But this time I'm focusing on developing Soap and readers relationship)

Silver Tongues like Bullets Ch 4 - Werewolf 141 x Female Reader (Reader isn't adjusting well after getting kidnapped. Names are being called and things are being thrown. They should have seen that coming though 🤷🏽‍♀️)

A Lick and a Promise Ch2 - Outlaw!Ghoap x Female Reader (this chapter focusing on the days leading up to readers kidnapping)

Broken Vows and Promises Ch 1 - Cheating Cbf!Soap which turns into Ghoap x Female Reader (this one's dark, Soap doesn't seem to want to lose you nor does he want to stop dating Simon. So that's his solution? Kidnapping you obviously! Keeping you hostage until you fall in love with Simon as much as he has...)

I might have a problem with the kidnapping trope...

the ride to the retail park is strangely fine. definitely awkward as shit but otherwise not any worse than sitting in a taxi with a total stranger. you learn that your saviour is called simon, that he’s recently retired from the armed forces (and fuck you very much past dating history for sending a little thrill of something up your spine when he tells you that particular piece of information), and that he can somehow steer and roll a cigarette at the same time (which for a whole plethora of reasons you know you shouldn’t find sexy as fuck).

"Simon does serial killer things. What a rascal!" Another fantastically written Simon, with wonderful dashes of Gaz and Price. It's put the term 'romance knives' in my vocabulary. There are many quotable bits and moments that made my blood run cold with how normal the ~situation~ feels, but everything has to be experienced firsthand.

The Far Shore by @deadbranch - Soap x Reader

DB's fic collection is rich, and The Far Shore is no different. I fucking loved Pacific Rim, so when I saw her first mention a PR AU, I did imaginary backflips. DB's Readers are some of my favorites because of how complex and realistic they feel, and when combined with the visceral depth of the neural handshake AND Soap? Compelling. The dynamic between them is fascinating. I almost can't wait for it to be finished so I can go back and dissect it.

Falling into Place by @mortuarywriting

Morg's brought the first COD Isekai AU I've read, like a little treat, with A/B/O to boot. The first chapter hooked me and cracked me up. Their dialogue reads so well, it truly feels like I got sucked into the universe. The panicked ramblings, the over-explanation, the 'oh shit, we don't even have a shared cultural touchstone' moments. I cannot wait for more.

Carvings by @femalefemur - Price x Reader

Cyn's got this amazing thing going on called 'Top Quality Worms' where she takes me by the hand and leads me down a rabbit hole I didn't know I'd find so cozy. Carvings is one piece from her incredible list, featuring a bloody, possessive Captain Price. Somehow, out of this entire piece, Price snapping a pen really did it for me. Did someone say loss of control? Oh no, not my kryptonite!

Under Your Spell by @groguspicklejar - Gaz x Reader x Soap

This fic had me at the pairing tag. Lured me right in. No hope for me, and I'm not mad about it. The way Gaz and Soap play off of each other in Under Your Spell is spine-tingling in more ways than one. The definition of scaroused. Kelsi writes a wonderful Gaz. The first two paragraphs in part two, Split My Skin, describe him perfectly to me.

Chokehold by @ccrites - Soap x Reader

Chokehold is a chef's kiss read. Starts off as a cute and sweet gym read, and uh, well, it does get sweeter, in a way. Without spoiling anything, there is a brief cab ride that made me take a lap before things got really going for Reader. CC's Soap is a delightful tease that is tender all at the same time. I'd join his gym in a heartbeat.

Knight/Princess AU by @a-small-writer-in-a-big-world - Price x Reader

I've read and re-read this AU series a dozen times. It's so gd cute, I might need to see the dentist about how it's rotting my teeth. Seriously, it makes ME want to be a princess. Specifically Price's princess. Bear writes such a sweet and gruff Price, catch me holding a hand over my heart and just sighing. I'm also a big fan of multiple POVs and the insight into each character.

Martyr in the Making by @eilidh-eternal - Ghost x Reader

I had a tattoo touch-up the other day, and while waiting, I thought about this fic: the dream and nightmare of being tattooed by Simon and the rest of the 141. It's a dream for obvious reasons (probably unhealthy for me) and a nightmare because of, well, you'll have to read the story. Getting a tattoo can be such an intimate experience. You put yourself into someone's care and get something permanently etched onto your body. When Reader sits for Simon, you're right there with her, the two of you on an altar.

Liquid Smooth by @cordeliawhohung - Gaz x Reader

Bodyguard!Gaz save me, save me, bodyguard!Gaz. Ugh, Gaz is fucking incredible in every flavor, but there is something that hits different about the guy when he's flexing those 'VIP protection' skills. There are several tiny moments in Liquid Smooth that made me audibly whisper, "God, I wish that were me." If you have a conifer tree allergy, you might not be able to handle the god-tier pining. (I'll see myself out.)

Gotta include the series that I drop everything for whenever I see an update. Another fantastic depiction of best man Kyle Gaz Garrick. The charm, the jealousy, the care...My personal favorite installments are Whispers and Threesomes.

plus size puppygirl!reader / Simon & Reader / Punishment by @secretsynthetic - Price x Reader x Ghost

Ghost gets his Captain a puppy, and Synth gives us a tasty Price x Reader x Ghost story. I've linked the intro and a Simon x Reader snippet, but my personal favorite is Punishment. Punishment is a deeper dive into Price the disciplinarian: "how the hell do i get a mutt like you to fuckin’ listen?" I'd gush about it, but again, this is another one to read and experience firsthand. One of my favorite recent explorations of a PriceGhost dynamic.

It is my baby. I'll send you pages from a previous draft (I'm in the middle of rewrites so I don't have anything super current to send) Larkspur is the story of a healing woman who goes to the matriarch of a local Orc clan after a near death experience at the hands of bandits, seeking out help protecting her little town that's at the edge of human territory. It's about community, healing from abusive relationships and learning to trust again and working to build something better together. And also about a huge hot orc woman. Heart of the Ocean: A princess flees her terrible husband on their wedding night and strikes out on her own, determined to find both purpose and several relics stolen from her late father. She runs into a handsome (orc) pirate captain who's strangely searching for the same items, and after robbing him and running away twice (lmao he gets so steamed about it) she joins his quest to find the Heart of the Ocean so that they can protect the Island kingdoms from the grasp of the Elven Empire. Heart of Clay: Ada is forced into an engagement to pay off a family loan, and is attacked by the demon that has haunted her nightmares for many years on the way to her wedding. When she wakes, she finds herself under the protection of a strange nobleman with golden eyes, who promises her protection if she marries him instead. But it soon becomes clear that he isn't being honest about who he is, and Ada has secrets of her own that threaten the fragile peace that they've found with each other. Angel of Avanti: A young nobleman finds a winged devil bleeding in his garden, who was being hunted by his uncle's soldiers. He helps her rather than turn her in, and finds himself the object of her unnerving affections. But why does she seem so guilty when he speaks of his late parents? And what does she know about his uncle's rise to power that she can't tell him? Also she's like seven feet tall. Can you tell I've got a thing about giant women?

ANYWAY I have like several chapters of most of these if you're interested I can share some snippets with you because these are my babies and I'm in love with these stories.
