The two had been stood picking out ice cream flavors when the energy of the festival took a pivotal shift. “Oh no,” Bentley murmured softly, not wanting to believe that the Death Eaters were once again attacking during a time where things were meant to be joyous and peaceful. “We need to get out of here,” he looked to Orion with a clear fear in his eyes. This made up one of the reasons why he preferred to keep away from the Wizarding World whenever he could help it. “Do you know where your sisters are? I’m going to reach out to Orlando and Jules right now,” Bentley ushered them to move someplace more secure before pulling out their phones to contact their loved ones.

it was sort of an open secret that, despite strained efforts keep up the picture perfect, picket fence image of an all-american family, robert and his wife evangeline had a more transactional type of relationship. robert was the ambitious type, a self-made man with a real rags-to-riches story and a nose for politics, whose apprenticeship to a vastly wealthy businessman had ended in a betrothal to said businessman's youngest daughter who, in saying her ghost-written vows to this smug-looking orphan from new england, had forever resigned herself to a life of bearing his children and believing his lies.

where julian figures in all of this is that he was, in fact, your classic 'last ditch effort to save a loveless marriage' baby, and the ironic part was that it wasn't really an effort so much as it was an accident. postpartum illnesses would render the child in the care of the nannies, not unlike those that came before, and it wasn't long after that evangeline would undergo a procedure that would deprive robert of any more children. from her, at least, though not that it mattered much in the grand scheme of things; she would find her husband dead in their too-large and seemingly always empty home when julian was only three.

it was difficult, growing up in the shadow of your late father; many expected robert thompson's children to follow in his footsteps, or to at least take a shred of his brilliance towards something great, something worth writing in the front-page columns about. once he was able to gain consciousness of what kinds of standards his own family had set for itself, julian strove to become something his mother could at least mention in her country club meetings, though he knew early on that he would always fall short, that he had no innate talents to show off, no skills he could master. he would always find everything too interesting and none of it within his reach. he developed a habit of constantly comparing himself to everybody, especially his siblings, which fed the hungry desperation to be noticed, for better or for worse.

void of any direction in his life, julian often floated into random hobbies and interests, casting a wide net into his future and hoping that something would stick. his endless curiosity and stubborn nature had him discovering weed at the age of thirteen, which would spark the entrepreneurial spirit within the high schooler, enough to pursue it as a part-time means of making some extra cash. upon getting caught, he would immediately be shipped out to boarding school, which wasn't of much help, but it did clear the streets of wilmington from any unsightly deeds and dispel terrible rumors from the late mayor's son.

he was twenty-two and barely just out of college when he made the grand announcement that he wanted to go to law school. in spite of his lackluster collegiate career, he managed to weasel his way into an institution not above accepting a little tip, as it were, from a family friend. unsurprisingly, he would drop out of law school (not that anyone ever expected him to finish, let alone make it to his second year) to purchase a mediterranean food truck in partnership with a friend, and that was only the first of many bold business decisions he would make in his adult life.

he'd been living in los angeles since he was twenty-five, gambling his trust fund into a variety of enterprises with his 'business partner' and none of them ever making any real profit. eight years later, it would take going bankrupt, his property in silver lake seized, and his business partner vanishing into thin air, for him to move back to his hometown, into a more modest place in wrightsville beach (temporarily financially assisted by his grandmother, much to his mother's chagrin) where he hopes to find a new adventure, one that does not require confronting the past thirty-something years of his life.

julian is a jack of all trades and master of none. no one, not even himself, knows what he's actually good at; he passes for so-so at pretty much everything. he doesn't suck, but he's certainly not good.

he's a people person, and meeting new people, getting to talk to them, pick their brains, see what makes them tick, are probably some of his favorite things about being an 'entrepreneur'.

he's an avid gamer, plays a variety of games, from team-based fps games to sim racing to more casual titles.

since discovering weed at the age of thirteen, julian's had a pretty rough relationship with drugs, developing a nasty coke habit and pill dependence throughout his adulthood. a lot of the projects and businesses he'd ventured into (and consequently failed at) could actually be attributed to his persistent drug use. he's only ever been in rehab once after nearly ODing the day after his 28th birthday. he stayed in an in-patient facility for 1 month and called it quits. he still uses, he's just gotten a lot better at not overdoing it.

absolutely loves animals and volunteers at the shelter as much as he can during his free time (of which he has a lot) but just doesn't trust himself nor does he think he's ready to be a furparent at the moment.

"We need to make the most of that then– get you as many waffles as you can possibly eat!" Bentley insisted with a smile. They both had busy schedules with her job and his studies, so he always wanted to make their one-on-one time special. Even if it was just sitting and watching an episode of something on the couch before they both conked out for the night. "Do you wish you did? Like are you thinking of playing the dating game again?" he asked curiously. "I've got two chapters to get through today but it's nothing too pressing. Let's have the best brunch that's ever been brunched– no need to keep an eye on the clock," he assured her before giving her an affectionate squeeze.

"How many waffles do you actually think I could eat? I'm going with maybe a good three... only because eating them without toppings is incredibly sad and it would be the sugar that would fill me up before anything else," Jules waffled on, only stopping as she saw his facial expression. "Oh yeah. I forgot to tell you about this. I've asked Freya to help me get back into dating," the blonde told him excitedly as she unravelled herself from the duvet a little. "I think it's time, you know? It's been a year... and I'm ready. I think," she said hesitantly. There had been many late nights thinking about it, but ultimately Juliet wanted to try again. "Two chapters, okay! We will brunch our little hearts out and have you back to study some cute lil animals before the end of the day. No problem," she grinned, excited for the day ahead.

Nica and Monk

Her father called her Pannonica, which was the name of a butterfly. Her name defines her.

She was born a Rothschild and died a jazz baroness. At the time she was presented at court and her marriage to Baron Jules de Koenigswarter, a handsome French diplomat, was a matter left to her ambitious mother. She was used to that.

In 1948, however, something happened. On his way to the airport after a visit to New York, Nica stopped to visit a friend, jazz pianist Teddy Wilson, who played him a recording of Round Midnight by a then unknown jazz pianist, Thelonious Monk.

When she listened to him a form of electric infatuation occurred in her, she was bewitched. After missing her plane, she never went home again. She left her husband and five children, moved into a suite at the Stanhope Hotel and devoted herself to trying to meet the man who had made this extraordinary record.

For a long season he followed the erratic Monk. When only one thought was in the air: did he live up to what he had dreamed of? "Oh yes," he said, "he was the most beautiful man I had ever seen in my life".

From that moment on, he was not to return. For the next 28 years, Nica devoted her life to Thelonious Monk. And she was sure he did nothing wrong. He was a genius, pure and simple, and there was nothing, not money, not castles, nothing, that was above Monk. His family sealed his name with a steel door, and if you asked them they would reply "he's vulgar", "he's the Peggy Guggenheim of jazz". Monk, Monk's wife Nellie , and Nica formed a ménage whose main purpose was to keep the composer well, as he was bipolar in addition to drugs.

But Pannonica, who was called Nica, lived next door to Monk for 38 years, and yet he lived with his wife Nellie. No one knows if it was a torrid love affair. But those who knew them say that although she was in love, if it had been sex, it wouldn't have lasted so long. She was not a sad groupee, her heart was at the very centre of the story. She was the lover of important jazz musicians and Charlie Parker died in her hotel room watching a series on television.

She had songs written for her, nearly went to jail for defending Monk who was carrying marijuana, and played herself in the Clint Eastwood-directed film about the musician.

She paid rent to many musicians, took their instruments out of pawnshops, ferried them to concerts in her silver-blue Bentley and invited them to share her home when times were hard, which they often were. "I realised they were all in great need of help," he once said. "I couldn't stand there with them and just watch and listen." In the face of her family's disapproval, she lent support to prominent musicians - among them Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Charles Mingus and Art Blake- as to strangers. She became inextricably linked to Monk. She fell in love with the music of the great bebop priest in 1952, and two years later - when he was 34 and she was 40 - they began a relationship whose essence still defies analysis and which ended only with his death.

At Monk's funeral, the two women shared the bench as two widows.

The North East’s Biggest Music Event LooseFest returns to Newcastle with their biggest line up yet

The LooseFest team have entered into a long-term partnership with the Freemen of Newcastle and the City Council to secure the future expansion of the site for many years to come, firmly cementing the North East on the UK festival map and beyond. Juliet listened to Hazel's spiel but knew she wouldn't talk about how strict her parents were, how protective they were of her as Hazel would just see it as a pathetic attempt to try to heal things. "Look, I'm not trying to minimise what you guys went through. It was awful. He's told me in the past. But whenever we've talked the last year it's been awkward exchanges and nothing more. Nothing substantial like that he'd been living with your mother since we broke up," Jules made clear to her. "I know you don't like me. Trust me, you've made that very clear. But I loved your brother. Cared so much for him. There's no way that I wouldn't have done anything if I knew."

"Yeah, and what's your excuse for him not telling you, little miss perfect?" Hazel hissed. "Sorry, but you have absolutely no where to judge. I communicated fully to Gale on why exactly I didn't want him seeing our mother, so it's understandable why he didn't tell me, but it doesn't make you or Alec that good of friends that he didn't tell you. Did you even once check in on him after you and Alec dumped him to the curb?" Hazel raised her eyebrows. "Sorry if you don't get it, because you have a perfect family with a mom who probably breastfed you or some shit, but our mother's abusive, and he lied to me because he knew I would worry, because I already was when he left my house, because I went through it.
