The two had been stood picking out ice cream flavors when the energy of the festival took a pivotal shift. “Oh no,” Bentley murmured softly, not wanting to believe that the Death Eaters were once again attacking during a time where things were meant to be joyous and peaceful. “We need to get out of here,” he looked to Orion with a clear fear in his eyes. This made up one of the reasons why he preferred to keep away from the Wizarding World whenever he could help it. “Do you know where your sisters are? I’m going to reach out to Orlando and Jules right now,” Bentley ushered them to move someplace more secure before pulling out their phones to contact their loved ones.

"We need to make the most of that then– get you as many waffles as you can possibly eat!" Bentley insisted with a smile. They both had busy schedules with her job and his studies, so he always wanted to make their one-on-one time special. Even if it was just sitting and watching an episode of something on the couch before they both conked out for the night. "Do you wish you did? Like are you thinking of playing the dating game again?" he asked curiously. "I've got two chapters to get through today but it's nothing too pressing. Let's have the best brunch that's ever been brunched– no need to keep an eye on the clock," he assured her before giving her an affectionate squeeze.
Tumblr media
"How many waffles do you actually think I could eat? I'm going with maybe a good three... only because eating them without toppings is incredibly sad and it would be the sugar that would fill me up before anything else," Jules waffled on, only stopping as she saw his facial expression. "Oh yeah. I forgot to tell you about this. I've asked Freya to help me get back into dating," the blonde told him excitedly as she unravelled herself from the duvet a little. "I think it's time, you know? It's been a year... and I'm ready. I think," she said hesitantly. There had been many late nights thinking about it, but ultimately Juliet wanted to try again. "Two chapters, okay! We will brunch our little hearts out and have you back to study some cute lil animals before the end of the day. No problem," she grinned, excited for the day ahead.

Nica and Monk
Tumblr media
(English / Español)
Her father called her Pannonica, which was the name of a butterfly. Her name defines her.
She was born a Rothschild and died a jazz baroness. At the time she was presented at court and her marriage to Baron Jules de Koenigswarter, a handsome French diplomat, was a matter left to her ambitious mother. She was used to that.
In 1948, however, something happened. On his way to the airport after a visit to New York, Nica stopped to visit a friend, jazz pianist Teddy Wilson, who played him a recording of Round Midnight by a then unknown jazz pianist, Thelonious Monk.
When she listened to him a form of electric infatuation occurred in her, she was bewitched. After missing her plane, she never went home again. She left her husband and five children, moved into a suite at the Stanhope Hotel and devoted herself to trying to meet the man who had made this extraordinary record.
For a long season he followed the erratic Monk. When only one thought was in the air: did he live up to what he had dreamed of? "Oh yes," he said, "he was the most beautiful man I had ever seen in my life".
From that moment on, he was not to return. For the next 28 years, Nica devoted her life to Thelonious Monk. And she was sure he did nothing wrong. He was a genius, pure and simple, and there was nothing, not money, not castles, nothing, that was above Monk. His family sealed his name with a steel door, and if you asked them they would reply "he's vulgar", "he's the Peggy Guggenheim of jazz". Monk, Monk's wife Nellie , and Nica formed a ménage whose main purpose was to keep the composer well, as he was bipolar in addition to drugs.
But Pannonica, who was called Nica, lived next door to Monk for 38 years, and yet he lived with his wife Nellie. No one knows if it was a torrid love affair. But those who knew them say that although she was in love, if it had been sex, it wouldn't have lasted so long. She was not a sad groupee, her heart was at the very centre of the story. She was the lover of important jazz musicians and Charlie Parker died in her hotel room watching a series on television.
She had songs written for her, nearly went to jail for defending Monk who was carrying marijuana, and played herself in the Clint Eastwood-directed film about the musician.
She paid rent to many musicians, took their instruments out of pawnshops, ferried them to concerts in her silver-blue Bentley and invited them to share her home when times were hard, which they often were. "I realised they were all in great need of help," he once said. "I couldn't stand there with them and just watch and listen." In the face of her family's disapproval, she lent support to prominent musicians - among them Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Charles Mingus and Art Blake- as to strangers. She became inextricably linked to Monk. She fell in love with the music of the great bebop priest in 1952, and two years later - when he was 34 and she was 40 - they began a relationship whose essence still defies analysis and which ended only with his death.
At Monk's funeral, the two women shared the bench as two widows.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quedó indisolublemente unida a Monk.

The North East’s Biggest Music Event LooseFest returns to Newcastle with their biggest line up yet
Tumblr media
Sean Paul, Craig David, Chase & Status, Patrick Topping and more headline The North East's largest and most ambitious music festival is back again on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th August at Newcastle’s unique and expansive inner-city green space, the Town Moor.  Once again, 30,000 people are expected to attend each day of the already legendary LooseFest weekender who have put together their biggest line-up to date, with headline artists including Sean Paul, Chase & Status, Craig David, Patrick Topping, Ben Hemsley, Joel Corry, Andy C, Sub Focus, Dimension, Example, Sigala and Tinie Tempah as well as some of the biggest DJs around including Franky Wah, Alan Fitzpatrick, Hot Since 82, Kettama, Jax Jones, Sigala and many more, all lined up across five spectacular arenas. Tickets go on General Sale on Friday 17th February, but sign-up now at www.loosefest.com to get early access to all tickets and payment plans 2 hours before general release.  In 2022, LooseFest became the largest festival in history to take over Newcastle’s Town Moor. The location is one of the largest inner-city greenspaces in Europe, spanning over 1,000 acres, making it larger than New York City's Central Park (843 acres). The LooseFest team have entered into a long-term partnership with the Freemen of Newcastle and the City Council to secure the future expansion of the site for many years to come, firmly cementing the North East on the UK festival map and beyond. Last year’s event was truly historic, transforming the area into an adult wonderland and for 2023, the LooseFest team are taking things another step further, with 5 incredible arenas, a carefully curated street food village, funfair, a range of bars and vendors and unique immersive activations including a Bentley and Ferrari experience in VIP and in the festival’s very own digital Metaverse. Although the festival does not currently offer on site camping, with the location being so close to the city centre, there is a huge range of accommodation options nearby, from hotels to Airbnb’s, as well as excellent transport links, making LooseFest one of the most easily accessible large-scale events in the country.  The music of course is the centrepiece of the festival, playing out across five bespoke stages each with their own bold look and stunning sound, covering everything from house, DnB and disco to techno, RnB and dance classics. The production is right at the cutting edge, with state of the art sound and lighting rigs, special effects and decor that is literally out of this world. A vital mix of international talent as well as local and UK stars from across the musical spectrum all line-up again this year. Chief amongst them is global superstar Sean Paul, international drum & bass pin-ups Chase & Status and Andy C, R&B sensation Craig David with his TS5 show, chart topping party starter Example, UK grime star Tinie Tempah and Newcastle’s very own Patrick Topping, who will be hosting one of the arenas under his ever popular Trick imprint. Also performing across the line-up are some of the biggest artists spanning the full breadth of electronic music, including DnB and bass selectors Sub Focus, Dimension, Bou and Kings of the Rollers, house, tech and techno maestros, Ben Hemsley, Joel Corry, Hot Since 82, Alan Fitzpatrick, Jax Jones, Schak and Syreeta as well as dance legends Judge Jules, Artful Dodger, Ultrabeat, Phats & Small, Flip & Fill and for the soulful house and disco lovers, Horse Meat Disco, A-Track and many more, with arenas hosted by Capital, Trick, Worried About Henry, What The Funk, Let’s Get Loose, Utopiar and Mixtape.  LooseFest has grown at an incredible rate since its debut in Herrington Park in 2021. Last year it set an all new standard for events in the North East and 2023 will be bigger and better than ever. The team behind the festival is made up of experienced industry experts, having created and curated some of the region’s best events, venues, and festivals over the past 10 years. Last year’s event created hundreds of jobs for the local community, working with as many local suppliers as possible, bringing in over £12m to the local economy and delivering an amazing experience to tens of thousands of party goers from across the UK. LooseFest 2023 is the ultimate way to spend a summer's weekend in one of the UK’s most vibrant cities, without the hassle of out-of-town travel and camping in the mud. Make sure it's on your to do list this year. Sign up now at www.loosefest.com and we’ll see you in the Toon! "I have so many boys in my life that feel like brothers, Mase. If anything I value those higher than having a relationship, at least right now," she admitted with a smile. Jules was surrounded with found family, and that's where she felt the most safe. "Of course you're attractive. You're in a band and you play guitar, and you're always wearing that goofy smile that I love," Jules tried to justify. "Any person would be lucky to date you. And if you want to start dating I am more than happy to help you out with setting up dates," the blonde offered. "But all of that isn't why I didn't flirt with you. Just because I love our relationship as it is. I didn't flirt with Axel either, or Bentley even though they're both attractive and sweet boys. You're family to me, that's the only reason."
Tumblr media
Flattery certainly didn't go amiss where Mason was concerned. Strangely enough, he needed that confirmation in most areas of his life, despite outwardly seeming full of confidence. "Brother figure huh... well I suppose that's not untrue." Because he viewed her the same way. It wasn't that he was attracted to her, he definitely loved her but more in a family way but he couldn't help the way it had smarted a little to not have someone he valued so highly even glance his way. "I suppose when you put it like that..." He admitted after a moment. "No, I didn't want it. Not in the way you would think or anything. I just... guess I wondered if you didn't see me as attractive and that's the reason why you didn't flirt with me."

"I thought they had a copy here but either I'm mistaken or someone's taken it out since I last saw it," Bentley hummed more to himself before looking over to Jules. "Sorry about that. Maybe we can find something else for you instead? I can think of some more recommendations, just give me a moment."

"We've been broken up for ages?" Jules replied, a puzzled look on her face at the conversation. "You're saying that you've been in close contact with your exes after you broke up? Because that's the double standard you're trying to give me here," the blonde huffed. "Alec could have stayed with him. I didn't 'take' him in the divorce. I live with Bentley now," she affirmed. Juliet listened to Hazel's spiel but knew she wouldn't talk about how strict her parents were, how protective they were of her as Hazel would just see it as a pathetic attempt to try to heal things. "Look, I'm not trying to minimise what you guys went through. It was awful. He's told me in the past. But whenever we've talked the last year it's been awkward exchanges and nothing more. Nothing substantial like that he'd been living with your mother since we broke up," Jules made clear to her. "I know you don't like me. Trust me, you've made that very clear. But I loved your brother. Cared so much for him. There's no way that I wouldn't have done anything if I knew."
Tumblr media
"Yeah, and what's your excuse for him not telling you, little miss perfect?" Hazel hissed. "Sorry, but you have absolutely no where to judge. I communicated fully to Gale on why exactly I didn't want him seeing our mother, so it's understandable why he didn't tell me, but it doesn't make you or Alec that good of friends that he didn't tell you. Did you even once check in on him after you and Alec dumped him to the curb?" Hazel raised her eyebrows. "Sorry if you don't get it, because you have a perfect family with a mom who probably breastfed you or some shit, but our mother's abusive, and he lied to me because he knew I would worry, because I already was when he left my house, because I went through it. He probably lied to you because he knew you wouldn't help him. You were supposed to at least be his friend. If he couldn't tell me, tell me who was he supposed to tell?"

“And with this crown, I name you King Bentley of Cat Palace,” Jules grinned as she delicately placed the daisy chain she’d made on his head. “Be careful with it as it’s incredibly fragile and we don’t want you revoking your kingdom now, do we?”

So I finally remembered to share these!! Sorry about all the smudges and dark spots, I don't like to do digital art very much, especially not for something that's not a main special interest atm (current super hyperfixation is on speech synthesis characters like Microsoft Samverse and Chipspeech)
These are the design pages for two of my characters - Genevieve Ironforge, my wizard (I have a death wiz named Marissa Nightshade whom I'll also eventually do a page for), and Genevieve's fiancé Bentley W.P. Kensington. (Probably no relation to whomever Kensington Park was named for.)
Genevieve actually has two versions- the version I use for original stories and the version tied to the Wizard101 universe. They're quite similar except that the original stories Genevieve has ties to my other OCs rather than to the Wizard101 characters, and her backstory in my universe isn't quite as hectic and exciting. Plus Bentley is only a Wizard101 OC so he's not in the picture in my original stories.
Genevieve
Her first outfit is a slight variation of what I've got her wearing in the game. The second outfit is one I made up based off of an outfit I own IRL.
She's 25 years old and originally from the US, but was born to Irish parents so she has an Irish accent.
She's always been a tinkerer and loved making inventions ever since she was in her early teens. When she was 17, she accidentally got sent from Earth to the Spiral by one of these inventions malfunctioning and causing basically a glitch in space-time.
She started working odd jobs around the Spiral trying to get money so she could rebuild the machine and attempt to recreate what she did that sent her there in the first place to get back home, including a city guard, assistant to Mr. Lincoln, a seamstress in Mooshu, a brief stint as a mercenary- she quickly realized this wasn't for her, as her physical combat skills just weren't that good- and finally a post worker in Marleybone. Living in Marleybone was a dream come true to Genevieve, who'd spent much of her teen years poring over Sherlock Holmes books and Jules Verne novels and longing to, just for a little while, experience what it was like to walk the cobblestone streets under the gas lamps' hazy glow alongside beautiful ladies in long dresses and dapper men in top hats.
Most of the Marleybonians seemed fascinated by this human girl- she wasn't there with Ravenwood, furthering her magical studies, and she was considerably older than most of the human teens who'd come from there. Likewise, Genevieve had been amazed by meeting these anthro animals upon first landing in the Spiral in Wizard City, but they were everywhere in Marleybone. She felt a bit like a fish out of water, being one of the only "people" who had skin instead of fur, but she still liked being there all the same.
It was at this job that she met Arthur Wethersfield, who had come back to Marleybone briefly to visit family. They talked for a long time and he told her about magic, which she found very interesting. She asked if even she could learn it, to which he said she absolutely could but that he wasn't totally sure if Ravenwood would accept her due to her age. He asked about her upon his return to Wizard City, where Headmaster Ambrose said that unfortunately she was out of the age range for enrollment, but that according to what he'd told him she seemed like Storm magic would be a great fit for her and that Halston Balestrom might be willing to tutor her privately. When Professor Wethersfield asked, Professor Balestrom said he'd be happy to teach Genevieve Divination, and that it's better to start late than never.
The next thing Genevieve knew, she was staying in an apartment on Triton Avenue in Wizard City, and every weekend she'd go up to the Storm school to receive her private lessons with Professor Balestrom. When she wasn't doing her Storm lessons, she was working at the Storm Mill, doing maintenance on the machines.
Genevieve, as it turned out, was a natural at Divination. She worked hard to master her spells and even asked Professor Balestrom for advice with rebuilding the machine that sent her to the Spiral in the first place once she'd been taking lessons from him for a while.
She still chatted with Professor Wethersfield, though he wasn't tutoring her, and sometimes they'd meet up at his house for tea. During one of their conversations, he mentioned that he knew someone back in Marleybone who was looking for a Storm wizard to help him out with golem designing and building and offered to mention her name to him. She said she'd love to do it.
The friend in Marleybone agreed to bring her in and see what she was capable of, and before long she was back in Marleybone, helping build and design robots.
She then had an epiphany: Here in Marleybone, she was living her dream out. She was studying science, building robots, and fully living in the 19th century- things that would have been obscenely difficult and, in the case of the latter, even impossible back home in present day America. So even though she missed her family a lot, she dropped the quest to go back to Earth- and instead put it on the back burner, to maybe figure out how to visit later on.
And her dream got even sweeter when she was told to pick up a few scientific journals from a bookstore in Regent's Square and met the most dashing gentleman. It was strange, feeling... attracted to one of these anthro dogs. She knew what furries were back on Earth, but hadn't fancied herself as one until she lay eyes on Bentley. Soon enough the two were courting and practically inseparable. After they'd dated for a few years he proposed to her- to which she, of course, said yes. Now she especially wants to visit Earth again, so she can introduce her fiancé to her parents! She and Bentley are both worried about what her parents would think about her marrying a man of a race/species that doesn't even exist on Earth, but there's only one way to find out what they'd say.
Bentley
First I'll transcribe what his page says in case you can't read my bad handwriting.
Name: Bentley W.P. Kensington. Age: 28. Species + breed: (Anthro) dog, poodle. Build: Tall and curvy. Resides in: Apartment in Chelsea Court. Occupation: Bookstore owner and violin player (at balls and for theater performances). Positive attributes: Generous, patient, observant, tolerant, kind, meticulous, neat. Negative attributes: Self-doubting, high-maintenance, jumpy and paranoid, extremely conflict averse, nitpicky.
For the most part, Bentley had a very average life. Being the only pup his parents had, his fairly well-to-do paternal grandparents absolutely spoiled him, none more so than his grandfather. The man made sure he never went without, and helped his parents send him to grade school. Though he couldn't afford to put him through university, he did get Bentley the music classes he'd longed to take. With a lot of hard work, he became adept at the violin. Though now at 18 he didn't really know what he was going to do now that he'd gone to school and knew music.
He spent a year just living in his grandfather's house, making money by having rich people hire him to play music at their parties. But one day his grandfather unexpectedly became ill and passed away. His father had already died in an industrial accident the year before, and having lost both of them took a heavy toll on the young man. But Bentley's grandfather had left him, in his will, the bookstore that had made the family so much money.
After a period of mourning, he got to work managing his grandfather's bookstore- and it turned out, he actually loved it! He didn't like all the record keeping very much, but he certainly liked stocking the books and finding as many interesting titles to sell as he could, and restoring old ones that people brought in to sell. Things went on like this for a few years- and when Kensington Books became the sole seller in Marleybone for a long-awaited series from a best-selling author, business exploded. For a year there would be lines outside his store almost daily!
With all this money, he bought fancy clothes and poured lots into keeping the bookstore looking absolutely beautiful. From planting flowering ivy to grow up the bricks, to importing expensive Wysterian furniture for patrons to sit and read in, and even adding a cafe that sold tea, coffee and pastries- he wanted to make his store look unlike any other in Marleybone! He'd always taken pride in his appearance and surroundings, but now he could take it to another level. The inheritance from his grandfather had helped tremendously in beautifying the bookstore as well, of course.
He didn't stop playing the violin now that he had a steady job, however- it was still his passion, and he would still play at rich people's parties. But now these rich people recommended him to theatre directors and the organizers of the annual Policemen's Ball, so they soon approached him and asked him to play for them! Bentley was ecstatic, and agreed to do it.
Balancing his passion for music with running the bookstore was difficult, but he managed to do it.
His life would be turned upside down, though, when a white-haired human lady came in and asked for a few copies of scientific journals.
It was love at first sight, and both of them knew the other one felt the same from the look in their eyes.
They began discussing literature, comparing Earth literature to Spiral literature, and soon made plans to meet up for tea.
These meetings happened more and more, until Bentley had Genevieve at his house every day. It was finally time, they decided, to officially start courting and become a couple.
Though they seemed quite an unlikely couple- not just because of Bentley being an anthro dog and Genevieve being a human, but because of him being so artistic and shy, and her being so logical and fearless... but they were practically made for each other. Their strengths and weaknesses complemented so well, and it was absolutely no surprise to any of their friends when Bentley proposed to her after they'd been in a relationship for about 3 years.
Most other Marleybonians were shocked by the knowledge that a dog would be in a relationship with a human. They faced some prejudice, but for the most part everyone was fairly accepting of their relationship. A couple of humans had settled down in Marleybone, and so it seemed just a matter of time until one of them fell in love with a Marleybonian. It was mostly others being confused by how he could have been attracted to a human- though the Marleybonians were very polite to Genevieve (with exceptions, as sadly everywhere has bullies, even Marleybone) they didn't really consider humans in general to be an attractive species, lacking fur, tails or snouts and having weird wrinkly ears on the sides of their heads instead of smooth ears at the top.
Phew that was a lot of typing, it's really late now and I need to go to bed but hopefully that's everything
