Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Review - Curse-tastic Prequel
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4 out of 5. Sneha Jaiswal (Twitter | Instagram) Director: Sunghoo Park Writers: Gege Akutami, Hiroshi Seko The very first thing you’ll notice about “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” the movie, is the difference between the animation style and musical score from season one of the anime series – it’s better. Based on the manga series by Gege Akutami, the 2021 film is a prequel and follows the…

Review of sorts lol
Ok, finished the gay Joey anime! ...Very very fast lmao
What to say, what to say...
Um, ok, the happiest I felt was hearing Joey's voice. I dont hear it in anything. In anything new, anyway. I rewatch YGO a lot, both dub and sub, mixed, random, all Joey's are Joey, even when they're Jounouchi
So his voice in anything is also Joey... well, unless he does a really creepy role. But I expect that with Kaiba's voice lmao or at least I used to. Dudes been getting only hot man roles lately, literally has the voice women (and men no joke) are drooling over
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every single one of them is about Kaiba's voice. He absolutely skyrocketed thanks to Jujutsu Kaisen
Tumblr media
But, like I said, my boy Joey and his VA aren't getting any roles at all.
So him getting a lead character role was very pleasant for me. Making it a gay leading role was a huge bonus. It came out in 2018 and then the movie in 2021, during the years I didn't watch anime, but I would have fangirled like fuck if I'd been watching it weekly like I used to watch anime
Outside of that... It's pretty, most of the time. The animation can be quite inconsistent, but for the most part its a good looking anime. The movie was very pretty, the budget was upped.
Now, here's the thing. There was nothing particularly special about this BL story-wise. In fact, its very run of the mill. If you've seen or read enough BL, there are absolutely no surprises here. Nothing unexpected. Its just that this one is about actors. Actually I think Love Stage might have also been about actors... I cant fully remember. But you could replace the actors with musicians, or authors, or doctors. And you will get the same story. My fave of these run of the mill BL's is Gravitation, an old classic. This one tops it for me not only due to nostalgia, but I still sing "Spicy Marmalade" from the show all the time. It has the tuuuunes. And comedy.
Tumblr media
But yeah, they're basically all just... general romance stories. Where there's no actual plot. And I'm the worst at judging this stuff bc romance as a genre is not for me. I've made posts about how I like romance as a side genre. I prefer an action series with a side case of romance. Like, if you take Jujutsu Kaisen, its purely action, no romance. But....... there eventually could be? It happened in HxH, and created a huge OTP for me. That's my thing.
Strictly romance animes, whether gay or straight, usually fall flat on me. The straight one's I'll give props to tho are Skip Beat and Kamisama with his pretty ass Bakura face
Tumblr media
Actually Joey's voice was in this anime, he was an annoyed gay man lmao but again, these are old
So yeah, I cant judge the story. Judging from the comments, and I'm assuming 99% of them were from female fans, or fujoshis as they are called, it was well liked.
I gave it a 7 like I do with all of these types of romance animes that dont have something truly outstanding happen but aren't bad and are quite rewatchable. I did like when they went to Spain! It was just... v pretty.
There is, ofc, problematic stereotypical yaoi moments. Where would these generic stories be without them? Finding a pure, BL story is quite hard. Doukyuusei and Given are what I would consider to be non-stereotypical, if anyone wanted to compare. Both of those are lovely
But yeah, I had an enjoyable day binging the fuck out of it, which means I have a lot of work to catch up on! I did this to myself
Eh, what can ya do

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie Podcast (w/BlueStarSaber)
youtube
Jujutsu Kaisen is a series I checked out around the time that the Attack on Titan Manga came to an end in 2021, but I started from reading the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 manga because from word of mouth it was the first thing Gege Akutami created before  creating the main series with Yuji Itadori. The story of Yuta Okkotsu and Rika was really special and one I was eager to see after reading the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 manga volume.  So many different emotions crossed through my mind while watching the movie especially after doing my review on the manga volume.   The Journey of Yuta Okkotsu in this film is one that will really grab many people's attention especially if they are a fan of the main series that Gege Akutami created sometime after he crafted this.
Special Guest for this podcast is my good buddy @bluestarsaber
I also wanna give a huge shoutout to my good friend @chattegeorgiana because without her I wouldn’t gotten into Jujutsu Kaisen in the first place.

🧙 Jujutsu Kaisen Review! 👻
Hello! Welcome to a new anime review! In this one, I'll be talking about an anime that quickly became very popular: Jujutsu Kaisen!
Tumblr media
It's doubtful you've not heard of Jujutsu Kaisen since it first aired in 2020. It's been one of the most popular shōnen anime in the past few years, attracting lots of attention (not unlike Demon Slayer, which I might mention a few times here).
So far, this anime has one season of twenty-four episodes and a 105-minute movie that aired in 2021. A second season is scheduled to air in 2023.
Of course, being a shōnen anime, JJK is all about action. In this case, this anime takes place in a world of curses and spirits, so in this regard, it's somewhat similar to both Demon Slayer and Black Clover.
Similarly to the first example I gave, this anime definitely doesn't focus on the plot. It has one, don't get me wrong, but it takes a backseat. There's a goal the main cast pursues, and then it is fight after fight to get there.
I'm not saying it isn't good, though - far from it. It's simple, sure, but effective and executed well. Sure, some tropes are pretty cliché, but they'll suffice for an anime that doesn't require a brain.
And contrary to some action anime that only focus on fighting, I thought JJK had a loveable cast! The characters are all amusing and endearing! I was (positively) surprised!
One flaw I'd like to point out, though, that this anime shares with Demon Slayer: the character development sometimes feels too quick. I like the protag, but he becomes very strong very fast. Other than that, all good.
Some people complain about MAPPA, but Jujutsu Kaisen has excellent animation. The fights are beautiful and always very smooth looking. Not as pretty as KNY, but still way (way) above average.
Musically, this anime is also pretty good. The openings/endings are all pleasant to the ear, and the fighting music raises the entertainment factor.
Overall, JJK is not perfect, but it is off to a great start! It should definitely be a part of the so-called "New Gen" of shōnen animes, and it deserves to be watched. I recommend it!
Down below is the tierlist for the characters in this anime. Please notice that it doesn't feature movie-exclusive characters. My apologies for that. Anyway, thank you for reading this review!

2021 watchlist review
So, just to finish putting 2021 behind me, here are the top anime I watched last year in no particular order. Also, I felt like talking about them. Long post ahead.
Full Metal Alchemist (both Brotherhood and 2003)
I loved both, but they're very different anime. '03 is a war story; FMAB is a battle anime that features war. If I had to make a value judgement, I'd say I enjoyed '03 better (though I did watch it before FMAB) but FMAB has more rewatch value, if only because '03 needs to be watched more or less in order and starting from the beginning makes it better.
I liked the way '03 characterized Mustang and Kimblee better out of the two; FMAB had the more satisfying and better paced ending. Also, FMAB has Ling Yao. I will always love FMAB for simply having Ling Yao. '03 wins in the "making me feel things category" because I really loved how they handled the origin of the homunculi and the story it tried to tell about human arrogance; FMAB wins best romance because I will never get over Mustang and Hawkeye, especially in the episode where they fight Envy for the last time. Jean Havoc remains my beloved no matter the adaptation.
I'd say FMA is one of those anime that was just, as a whole, extremely well-written and animated. I continue to have very mixed feelings about Roy Mustang.
Mars Red
I love this anime a normal amount, I swear. This is totally not my favorite anime of this year hands fucking down, no sir. I totally do not think about all of the characters from it daily.
.../s
MDZS Season 3
NO THOUGHTS ONLY HOW MUCH I LOVE a. WangXian, b. Xue Yang, c. the way they adapted Lan Xichen and Jin Guangyao. I am very sad about how it's over, and I'm also very sad about how dirty they did Jiang Cheng, but everything else about it is glorious.
Interspecies Reviewers
I'M STONE COLD SEROUS WHEN I SAY INTERSPECIES REVIEWERS BEATS A LOT OF NON-ECCHI ANIME OUT OF THE PARK. If you're okay with seeing tits during a slice of life fantasy anime that talks frankly about sex and BDSM and is also genuinely hilarious, go watch it. It's so good.
Dr. Stone
I am very much a raging science nerd and let me tell you, this has got to be my favorite of all the ways science gets portrayed in anime. Dr. Stone is so obviously a love letter to STEM--it shows science as something hopeful and exciting, and the people who love it as all sorts of folk. It's hilarious, heartwarming, and incredibly entertaining. I binged this one in a few days.
AND SCIENCE PORTRAYAL ASIDE? THE FRIENDSHIPS N THS ANIME SOMEHOW MAKE "uwu power of friendship deus ex machina" CONVINCING. I love it.
Jujutsu Kaisen
I usually try to stay away from anime that gets a lot of hype, but man, Kaisen lives up to it. The animation is great, the characters are genuinely so loveable, and sometimes I look at Team Gojo and think that this is what Team Seven could have been. It's a little bit too big brain for me sometimes, especially the power system, but it's lovely all the same.
Hakata Tonkatsu Ramens
Got recommended this by @electrick-indigo! It's, like, what if you took found family and then did found family in a setting where murder is just...a thing that happens regularly. I adore the main character, and he's gnc as fuck. Plus the whole anime has the vibes of BSD in its earlier arcs, which I love and adore.
Promare
COMFORT MOVIE COMFORT MOVIE COMFORT MOVIE
It's a surprisingly nuanced look at societal oppression wrapped up in pretty neon colors and mecha battles. And gay. There's so much gay. I adore this movie.
Umibe no Etranger
It's an extremely good movie about two queer dudes falling in love, and the manga sequel "L'etranger du Zephyr" is just as good. I am just...very attached to Mio and Shun. They do a good job of realistically portraying queer romance and the way relationships can evolve over time, particularly in the sequel. No complaints about this one.
Heaven's Official Blessing
It's very soft and is my favorite brand of supernatural mystery solving. Like, In/Spectre wishes it had romance and mystery this good.
The Way of the Househusband
It's hilarious and a really good pick-me-up.
Dragon Pilot
Ah yes, a cute anime about girls that pilot dragons by getting vored. It does not make more sense in context. Watch it anyway because all the characters are so endearing.
Horimiya
A romance anime that I really enjoyed! It's just teenagers being cute and in love!
Fuse: Memories of a Hunter Girl
This one is an interesting story about furries and a girl with a bazooka. It feels a little bit like a fever dream, in retrospect.

Kenapa bagi Sahabat Rasul, Alquran Dekat dengan Mereka dan Sedih saat Berhenti Turun; Sebuah Refleksi dari Penikmat Manga dan Anime
Hmm, I know.
Any way.
Bahkan bagusnya itu ngga cuma soal apa yang dilihat, tapi rangkulan psikologis yang diberikannya juga erat–the feeling like those entertainments can understand you more than human being around you.
Wajar BSD jadi my fave manga and anime.
BSD masih on going, dan aku senang masih on going.
I mean, 23 tahun!
Aku aja yang nonton Frozen I, lalu tayang Frozen II, bedanya 6 tahun dan cuma dua movie, merasakan sih special moment dan bikin aku attach to that movie for some period of time.
This relationship is so scary for me, realizing that on an author's hand, someone life may project to one another way. Or, there is?

Alhamdulillah, bini'matihi tatimmushshalihaat 🌼

How Jujutsu Kaisen’s Female-Centric Fight Scenes Push Shonen Forward
https://ift.tt/2PgMWtM
For many anime fans, Jujutsu Kaisen shone as the highlight of the Fall 2020/Winter 2021 season. There are many possible reasons for this hype: The series delivered more sought-after supernatural action on the heels of 2019’s breakout hit Demon Slayer. Its darker approach both set Jujutsu Kaisen apart from its predecessor and offered a cathartic escape during a global pandemic. Studio MAPPA adapted Gege Akutami’s original manga with memorable visuals and smooth animation. After all, who can forget the first time Gojo tangled with Sukuna or used his mind-bending domain expansion technique?
But what’s most striking about Jujutsu Kaisen are its fight scenes. Even the show’s detractors will agree that, through clever action cinematography, the series showed us how well-executed sequences can elevate the otherwise simple premise of a boy who gets possessed by a demon. Less remarked upon, however, is how those same fight scenes utilize Jujutsu Kaisen’s female characters.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s portrayal of its female characters has won the series many fans. Episode 17: “Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle 3” drew widespread acclaim with its on-screen acknowledgment of the struggles women face in an overtly sexist society. What went less remarked upon was the backdrop against which those declarations took place.
Longtime shonen fans are familiar with what can be called “the obligatory girl fight.” It’s the match-up between two female characters. Sometimes, they’re the only female characters from the series in question. One variation may feature one-off declarations of throwing away their femininity through a dramatic cutting of hair. Another, sadly more common type uses the opportunity for gratuitous, male-driven fan service.
On its surface, Episode 17 showcases the obligatory girl fight. But in many ways, the explicit examination of the impossible standards that women are held to tells the audience this fight is anything but obligatory. And, even if any doubts remained, we need only look at the actual fights that occurred during the episode: Maki Zenin kicks her opponent off a cliff. Nobara Fugisaki nearly destroys the surrounding forest to take down broom-riding Momo. Mai Zenin, Maki’s twin, defeats Nobara with what could be called a cheap shot: sniping her from a distance while the other girl verged on defeating her opponent.
These observations may seem like small things, but they’re notable when looking at the history of female fighters in shonen series. In generations past, shonen’s female characters often found themselves relegated to support roles. They’re healers and medics. They patch up the other (male) characters’ physical and emotional wounds. Their abilities, despite being often presented as without peer, are used in the most benign and inoffensive of ways. Is she physically the strongest person in the entire series? Perhaps, but she would never hit a person using her full strength. She hits things, not people—even if that person is doing everything in their power to kill her.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2, the Prequel Movie, and Their Possible Connections

Yasuke Review: Netflix Anime Reclaims The Story of a Black Samurai
By Caroline Cao
When Maki kicks Kasumi Miwa off the cliff in Episode 17, she doesn’t hesitate. She presses her advantage. When you fight, you fight to win. And in their line of work, the physical injuries sustained from such a fall are nothing compared to the potential threat from facing and exorcising a cursed spirit. Mai’s attack may be considered cowardly, but the results can’t be denied. She eliminated Nobara from the competition. This isn’t to say that every female character in a shonen series should be bloodthirsty. That defeats the purpose of seeking multidimensional female characters in our media. But if a woman works in a dangerous occupation like that of a jujutsu sorcerer, she must accept the routine necessity of violence.
Unlike other shonen series, we don’t see the female characters grapple with that reality in Jujutsu Kaisen. The women have already come to terms with those expectations. In the case of Maki, the acceptance is crucial. Born with no cursed energy—something most jujutsu sorcerers have—she has no choice but to rely on her physical abilities. And make no mistake, she makes good use of them. She’s allowed to be strong in the same way that series protagonist Yuji is strong. She fights hard. She’s often the first to land a hit on an otherwise untouchable enemy. She can emerge from an encounter unscathed whereas her male ally is not so lucky. Individually, these are small things but together, they add up over time.
Nobara, on the other hand, reminds us that women don’t have to accept the unfair expectations placed upon their gender. In her memorable speech from Episode 17, she proudly states that she loves being strong as much as she loves dressing up and looking pretty. Embodying both may seem like a contradiction for the shonen female heroine, but Nobara is a study in contrasts right down to her signature technique. Her trademark ability involves hammering nails through a straw doll that represents her enemy. What the audience may not realize is that the technique has roots in a traditional Japanese curse ritual where scorned women nail effigies to trees. Nobara isn’t a scorned or rejected woman, however. Instead she’s adopted a process associated with feminine vengeance and transformed it in a brutal attack.
We see Nobara’s technique in action throughout the entire series, but it takes center stage in “Accomplices,” Jujutsu Kaisen’s season 1 finale. During the episode’s climatic battle, Nobara is underestimated by their enemies like many female characters in shonen series before her. And why not? Her partner, Yuji, serves as the host to Sukuna, the King of Curses. He is the more obvious threat. But in a stunning reversal, it’s Nobara who becomes far more dangerous to their enemies. She may not host a demon nor does she have intimidating physical abilities, but she has a quick mind for strategy and an understanding of the sacrifice required for victory. The ensuing action-packed scenes show us a battle where Yuji and Nobara fight as equal partners. Neither is more important or weaker. The girl doesn’t need protecting. She doesn’t need saving. In another shonen series, the fight’s conclusion would highlight Yuji’s protagonist status by giving him the final strike. But even here, the success of Yuji’s punch relies on Nobara’s long-distance attack.
In Season 1, Jujutsu Kaisen gives us fight scenes where women play crucial roles. They weaken and delay opponents to give time for stronger combatants to arrive. More than that, it gives us women who enjoy fighting. They defeat enemies with a self-satisfied smirk on their faces. They smile as they promise to deliver death. In Jujutsu Kaisen, the women aren’t constrained by being nice. They’re allowed to be ugly and brutal. And because of that, their fight scenes show us what female characters can accomplish when they’re allowed to move beyond agonizing over a violent life and instead embrace it as a requirement of their chosen profession.

Japan Box Office: Shin Ultraman is Defeated by Top Gun: Maverick in Its 3rd Weekend
As expected, Shin Ultraman lost to Tom Cruise's Top Gun: Maverick in Japan and fell to second place in its third weekends, after staying on No.1 for two consecutive weeks. Top Gun: Maverick, the first sequel in 36 years, earned an impressive 1.158 billion yen (9.12 million USD) in its first three days and will probably be the most successful foreign film in Japan in 2022.
The Shinji Higuchi (Attack on Titan live-action films, Shin Godzilla)-directed all-new live-action film earned 344 million yen (2.7 million USD) on 229,000 admissions in its third weekend, which was 30 percent down from its second weekend gross. Its cumulative total gross has reached 2.7 billion yen (21.25 million USD) on 1.8 million admissions, and at this pace, its eventual gross would end up being about half of that of Higuchi's previous film, Shin Godzilla, which made 8.25 billion yen (65 million USD) in 2016.
RELATED: Japan Box Office: Shin Ultraman Repeats at No.1 with Strong 486 Million Yen
After making its impressive second place debut last weekend despite of its small numbers of theaters, The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie, a sequel to the two-season TV anime adaptation of Negi Haruba's romantic comedy manga, still ranked third in its second weekend with an estimated total gross of 800 million yen (6.3 million USD).
The fourth top-grossing of last weekend was Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween. The film has grossed 8.3 billion yen (65.33 million USD) on 5.98 million admissions.
Surprisingly, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 retuned to eighth place in its 23rd weekend. The film finally ended its domestic theatrical run on May 29, and its final stage greeting event was live-broadcast in 342 theaters nationwide. Its cumulative total gross was 13.75 billion yen (107.3 million USD), making its the 14th top-grossing film of all time in Japan, surpassing Tom Cruise's 2003 film The Last Samurai (13.7 billion yen).
Masaaki Yuasa's (Devilman crybaby, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) new anime feature film INU-OH failed to make the top 10 in its opening weekend and made its 11th place debut. The film at least ranked third in Filmarks' first day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.84/5.0 based on 1,846 reviews.
Meanwhile, The Avenger Scar, the first part of the Fullmetal Alchemist Complete Edition, the two-part live-action film sequel of Hiromu Arakawa's internationally popular fantasy action manga Fullmetal Alchemist, quickly disappeared from the top ten in its second weekend.
