Mark Goddard (born Charles Harvey Goddard; July 24, 1936 – October 10, 2023) Film and television actor who starred in a number of television programs. He is probably best known for portraying Major Don West in the CBS series Lost in Space (1965–1968). He also played Detective Sgt. Chris Ballard, in The Detectives, starring Robert Taylor.
In 1959, after just three weeks in Hollywood, he landed a role in the CBS Four Star Television series Johnny Ringo, having played the character of Cully, the deputy to Don Durant's character of Ringo. At this time, he changed his name to Mark Goddard at the suggestion of his friend and mentor Chuck Connors of The Rifleman. Goddard appeared as Norman Tabor in the 1960 episode "Surprise Party" of the CBS anthology series The DuPont Show with June Allyson. He was cast as Sheldon Hollingsworth in the 1960 episode "To See the Elephant" of the ABC Western series The Rebel, starring Nick Adams. He played Tod Rowland in the 1960 episode "The Mormons" on Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theatre. Goddard also appeared in The Rifleman as Marty Blair in 1962 in the episode “Mark’s Rifle.”
The Detectives, another production of Four Star Television, was a hit series which ran on ABC and NBC from 1958 to 1961; Goddard was signed for a role lasting three years (64 episodes). In 1963, Goddard appeared as Roy Mooney on the Perry Mason episode "The Case of the Potted Planter". In 1964 Goddard appeared as Richard on The Virginian in the episode titled "The Secret of Brynmar Hall." That same year he guest starred as a wild killer named “Boyd” in the episode “Journey For Three” on the TV Western series Gunsmoke (S9E36).
Goddard's next role was Major Don West on Lost in Space (1965–1968). A blossoming romance initially existed between West and Judy, the elder daughter of the Robinson family, but by the middle of the second season, West maintained an adversarial relationship with the hapless, sociopathic Dr. Zachary Smith
Goddard guest-starred on three ABC series, The Fugitive, The Mod Squad, and The Fall Guy and for a while, moonlighted as a Hollywood agent. In 1970, Goddard co-starred with Kent McCord and Martin Milner in an episode of Adam-12, in which he plays a friend of Pete Malloy (Milner), who is killed in the line of duty. The episode was titled "Elegy for a Pig" (so titled and announced by Jack Webb himself). Mark Goddard also played Ellie May's beau on the Beverly Hillbillies. Goddard played a supporting role in a 1974 episode ("Dark Legacy") of CBS's Barnaby Jones.
In 1979, Goddard starred as Ted Clayton on One Life to Live and as Lt. Paul Reed on The Doctors. Later, he starred as Derek Barrington on General Hospital. (Wikipedia)

Tumblr media
It happened so fast . . .
Tumblr media
“We have an immediate opening, Ms. Parker.”
That left me with a weird feeling, but I said yes anyway.
“Please, call me Antonia.”
Tumblr media
The manager, Patrice Townsend, met me in the lobby at Art-2-You. She introduced me to her admin Ash before we dived into a warren of cubicle walls that led to her office.
Tumblr media
We had worked out terms over the phone, but I still needed to sign papers. I would make less per painting, but a regular salary made up for that.
Afterwards, we crossed the lobby into the studio and I finally felt comfortable. The light, the sounds, the smell of paint – I felt at home.
Tumblr media
Patrice introduced me to Alvin Lucero, the other in-house painter. Trent Hollingsworth was a sculptor working mostly in wood. The decor in his cube was very interesting.
Tumblr media
“And Judy Quinn is our assemblage artist and upcycler – when she works,” Patrice speaks directly to the woman sitting in the corner of the cube.
“We’ve been looking forward to meeting you, Antonia!” The blonde doesn’t take the bait. “I hope you’ll like it here.”
Tumblr media
“We’ve saved the corner office for you!” Patrice says with a flourish. “You have great natural light, a nice view of the park, and one of our better easels! So I’ll leave you to get started.”
I wasn’t actually expecting to paint today – I would have brought a change of clothes – but I’m glad to get busy.
Tumblr media
After I start a painting, Judy comes in and claims my stool. “They’re supposed to provide our materials and tools,” she says. “Don’t let them get away with expecting you to do it.” When I assure her I won’t, she shrugs. “I better go out and check the neighborhood dumpsters.”
Tumblr media
At lunch, I run into Arvin at the microwave. Our conversation is much less ominous, talking about brushes and favorite substrates. He has a really appealing personality and I get the impression that he considers himself the local wunderkind.
At the end of the day, I have Trent and Ash visiting. Trent is quiet and mostly listens while Ash answers my questions. I had a good day, but we’re all happy when five o’clock rolls around!
Tumblr media
When I get home, I just want five minutes off my feet but I guess I zone out. Then I hear snuffling and little growls, and Freddie is saying, “Mom! Mom! You’ve got to feed the bear!”
“Somebody find my phone. Let’s order a pizza.”

The Return of Red-legged Frogs
Multiple partners from national and international nonprofits, government agencies, private landowners come together to change the course of the frog’s plight.
The effort to return the frogs to Southern California, which had been ongoing by Robert Fisher from the U.S. Geological Survey’s Amphibian Research and Monitoring Initiative Program for more than 20 years, began to move the needle in San Diego County when Winchell started working with private ranchers Judy and Chuck Wheatley who had just restored a pond on their property for the reintroduction of the Western pond turtle.
“Why not add red-legged frogs also,” said Fisher to Winchell who he has known for more than 20 years.
The species was decimated by disease and invasives, and disappeared from San Diego County in 1974 and western Riverside County in 2001. More recently, there was concern about loss of habitat in Mexico (where some of the last of the frogs remained) with only one national park and a handful of ranches as the only sites for the frogs, with water, a scarce resource since it was rapidly being diverted for agricultural use for growing tomatoes and strawberries...

The Amazing Dragon Bench Chainsaw Sculpture of Estonian Igor Loskutow
The oldest chainsaw artist records go back to the 1950s, which include artists Ray Murphy and Ken Kaiser. In 1952 Ray Murphy used his father’s chainsaw to carve his name into a piece of wood. In 1961 Ken Kaiser created 50 carvings for the Trees of Mystery.
Many new artists began to experiment with chainsaw carving, including Brenda Hubbard, Judy McVay, Don Colp, Cherie Currie (former Runaways lead singer), Susan Miller, Mike McVay, and Lois Hollingsworth. At this time chainsaw carvers started loading up their carvings in the back of their trucks, functioning as traveling galleries.

Beech Street in Halifax 'reminiscent of Juan'
Thousands of trees are down across the Maritimes and that includes hundreds of trees on Halifax streets that were hard hit 16 years ago during Hurricane Juan.
Beech Street is one of them and, while residents there have seen it all before, they are anxious to see the end of it now.
The street was in lock-down mode on Tuesday and closed to traffic and parking.
There were piles of branches and debris everywhere as the city brought in specialized crews to handle the high-risk cleanup.
Resident Jerry Barkow says it's as bad as he's ever seen it – and he was still without power on Tuesday.
"I did call them and I was told I should've been prepared and bought a generator," Barkow said.
When he told Nova Scotia Power that he didn't own a generator he says he was then told he might want to consider storing his frozen food at a friend's house.
The topper? A huge branch fell on his car.
"Oh the car definitely got damaged," Barkow said.
Barkow's neighbour, Judy Ashley-Leblanc says this storm is "reminiscent of Juan."
"Actually there are more tree limbs down than I remember with Juan," Ashley-Leblanc said.
Throughout the city, the impact of Dorian is evident.
Michael and Cindy Extine are visiting from Washington state and had a trip to the Public Gardens on their bucket list, but when they got there, it was closed.
Point Pleasant Park also remains closed and there are signs of impact from the storm.
Later this week, the city will inspect this park and the public gardens to assess the damage.

Prairie Life AU
Part 1: Quick little read to hit you right in the sweet shipping spot.
Context: Wildehopps has spent the past year escaping danger and finally found a place to be safe. The drawback was that they had to abandon their whole lives in order to be free. They are poor and hungry, but it’s the only way they can be together. In exchange for work, they get to live on a wealthy baron, Mr. Hollingsworth’s hundred acres of land (though they only have one acre) and receive a small stipend.
In this snippet, Nick’s been overworking himself and Judy has had enough of it. The two are in their little shack and she’s sitting next to their bed in a rickety chair.
Judy: I usually joke around about this, but you really are a dumb Fox.
Nick: *sitting up* Ah c’mon. I was just a little tired.
Judy:  You call fainting in the middle of the field a little tired? Lay back down. You’re on bed rest for the rest of the night.
Nick: *dramatically* Yes, Ma’am
Judy: Don’t Yes Ma’am me. You almost gave me a heart attack.
Nick: ...I know. I just- I can’t support you if I’m just sitting in the sun taking breaks every hour.
Judy: Mr. Hollingsworth would understand if you did for awhile at least.
Nick: No, you don’t know him like I do. He’s generous but… He’s just not someone we can trust.
Judy: ...Fine. But you can’t support us if you’re in a grave.
Nick: You don’t think I know that? Whenever I have to fall asleep to the sound of your stomach growling, the guilt…
Judy: Nick, it’s just a bad season. Crops’ll grow in time.
Nick:  But I’m used to being hungry. You grew up with meals every morning and night. I’m the one that took you away from that.
Judy: I chose to go with you. I don’t regret it.
Nick: ...You don’t?
Judy: *leans forward and kisses him* Of course not. My home is here with you.

Did your congressman vote for that spending bill? Here's the list.
Photo: FEMA (CC0)
Democrats may have lost the House, the Senate and the White House, but somehow they still control Congress.
Despite being drawn up by Republican leaders, the plan passed with Democrats providing most of the support.
Of the 309 votes to pass, 178 came from Democrats.  Only 131 Republicans voted for it.
If the 118 votes against, 103 came from Republicans.  Only 15 Democrats voted against it.
The $1.1 trillion federal spending plan, which President Trump says he supports and will sign, funds Planned Parenthood, Obamacare and sanctuary cities, and includes no funds for a border wall.
The bill is H.R. 244, titled the “HIRE VETS Act.”  Inside that bill is the text of “Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2017,” which funds the federal government through September.
