Montgomery Clift, right, aged 15, as Prince Peter in Jubilee, 1935. The other boy is Jackie Kelk, playing Prince Rudolph.
The show, a musical, had a book by Moss Hart and a score by Cole Porter, and introduced the classics "Just One of Those Things" and "Begin the Beguine." It included some characters based on real people: the swimmer who becomes an actor is a spoof of Johnny Weissmuller; Noël Coward is portrayed as Eric Dare; and the party hostess Elsa Maxwell is given the name Eva Standing.
The show received rapturous reviews, with one critic calling it "one of the great theatrical events of the 1930s." But after the orchestrations were lost in transit in 1948, the show was not performed for 40 years. There have been a number of concert performances since then, but no full-scale production.

Tribute to Saraswati Devi, the first woman music director in Hindi films, on her 44th death anniversary (09/08/1980).
Born in a Parsi family in 1912, Saraswati Devi was a trained classical singer and rose to become India’s first woman music director of Bollywood.
A musical rage in the 30s and early 40s, Saraswati Devi's musical career was mostly confined to films produced by Bombay Talkies. Starting with 'Jawani Ki Hawa' in 1935, she went on to compose highly popular music for hit films like Achhut Kanya, Kangan, Bandhan and jhoola.
She was born as Khursheed Manchersher Minocher – Homji.
She changed her name to escape the wrath of the conservative elements of her community as they could never stand that a lady from their clan would enter the film world.
Once when at a gathering the Bombay Talkies owner Himanshu Rai heard her, he instantly invited her to join his concern as a music director. She was reluctant at first, not knowing how she would adjust herself to the needs of the film industry. But finally she accepted the offer.
She was the first woman music director no doubt. But the biggest challenge she faced was to groom non-singers into singers. That was a very, very big challenge in view of the competition from New Theatres as she didn’t have a Saigal or a Kanan to sing her compositions. That is why one should say that she had a formidable task to perform unlike her counterparts like R.C.Boral, Tamir Baran and others in Calcutta.
The biggest contribution by Saraswati Devi, therefore, was to produce hit songs through the lips of non-singers like Ashok Kumar, Devika Rani and Leela Chitnis.. Right from Achchut Kanya till Jhoola, Saraswati Devi went on rampage, so to speak, producing one hit after another. Leela Chitnis could sing hit songs like, ‘Meera ke jeevan ki sooni parri re sitar’ (Kangan), ‘Man bhavan lo sawan aya re’(Bandhan) and ‘Jhoole ke sang jhoolo jhoolo mere man’.(Jhoola) Imagine Saraswati Devi producing a golden jubilee hit in the voices of Ashok Kumar and Devika Rani in film ‘Achhut Kanya’ (a film that Nehru saw and appreciated)-‘Main ban ki chirriya ban ke ban ban bolun re’. The biggest hit by her was the marching song of Bandhan, ‘Chal chal re nau jawan’ sung in solo by Ashok Kumar, sung in chorus by Ashok Kumar and sung as a duet by him with Leela Chitnis. She used a non-singer like Sneh Prabha to sing the Puner Milan song, ‘Nacho nacho pyare man ke mor’. The male singer she had was Arun Kumar, who sung for Kishore Sahu in Punermilan, for Mumtaz Ali in ‘Jhoola’ (Main to Dilli se dulhan laya re he babuji) and others. Incidentally, it was she who gave break to Kavi Pradeep as a singer though he was writing lyrics for the concern since 1939 from film ‘Kangan’. She first used him in that immortal song of ‘Bandhan’ which is played in the back ground: ‘Piyu piyu bol praan papeehe piyu piyu bol’ Pradeep did sing subsequently some big hits after leaving Bombay Talkies. But in ‘Jhoola’ he has left behind a memorable song too tuned by Saraswati Devi: ‘Mere bichade hue saathi teri yaad sataye, baar baar teri chavi aye birha agan jaraae’
After she left Bombay Talkies, she shot into limelight again in the early fifties when she tuned two non-film ghazals for Habib Wali Mohammad. These were: ‘Lagta nahin hai dil mera ujjarre dayar mein’ and ‘Yeh na thi hamari kismet ke visaal-e-yaar hota’. When you listen to her compositions, specially the indigenously-flavored background music, you are transported into the environment of the India of the early 20th century.
During the later years of her life, the bad and selfish film world turned apathetic towards the doyenne. Not even a single person visited her when she fractured her hip bone after falling from a private bus. The legendary singer and India’s first female music director left for a better world in 1980 with no one to mourn her death. Even the media did not find her worthy of an obituary. More Henry propaganda:
(TL;DR at end)
the reason why Henry is here in the first place is because of his small firebox, which gives heat to boil the water to make him move, and when given bad coal(coal that burns less well or is just not good) he starts having trouble,
from 1919 to 1935 he's had this design fault due to being stolen and rejected plans from the real life engineer, sir Nigel gresley, the guy who was building him found out about these faults to late and Henry was complete, and the NWR (the railway he works on now) was going through a engine crisis since it was still begining, and Henry was unknowingly part of a ploy to get him off his builders hands, and sir topham hatt canonically cursed "that ____ _____,____ sent me this"(we don't get to see what he said really)
Even with all the replacement parts, Henry still was sick, and Sometime, topham climbed on with his crew, and wanted to see what happened with him, his crew said that they needed special coal (Welsh coal in the books) to operate with a fair chance, it was expensive, but topham got it for Henry, and of he went as a rocket, energetic as ever
But then in 1935, he was sent to take a fish train named the flying kipper, he did it all, and set off at 5 o clock, but unfortunately ice and snow forced signals to show green, but it was actually red, and the switches were frozen and Henry was sent into a goods train at full speed(in the show it was James's train, but the illustrations in the book don't show), crashing, and after that he was sent to Crewe, a real life workshop which made him into a LMS stanier black 5, a real life Locomotive, now without the need of Welsh coal, but in the show it's not so good, as he was flanderized down to only that in the HiT era, even though he was fixed, and in season 2 of the show he gained back his wheel arches, indirectly making him a Stanier jubilee, a very similar class made by the same guy, just for passenger work
TLDR Henry has small firebox and can't do with bad coal, so better coal is gotten for him, crash in 1935, rebuilt into another engine without the fault, the LMS black 5, or the LMS jubilee post season 2

Gallery on the Green, Settle
The Upper Settle phone box was purchased by the Settle Town Council in early 2009 under the BT "Adopt a Kiosk" scheme. As part of the scheme, the phone was removed, and the Council was free to use the kiosk as they chose. It was agreed that Cultivating Settle would manage the facility and set up a community art gallery. Grant funding was obtained from Craven District Council and the Settle Town Council. The iconic phone box is of the K6 type and was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1935 to commemorate George V's Silver Jubilee and has been refurbished inside and out.
We believe the Gallery on the Green is the smallest public art gallery in the world. Certainly, it is the only one to be open 24/7 and filled to capacity at least twice a day.

Eva Jessye
Singer, composer, and choral director Eva Jessye was born in 1895 in Coffeyville, Kansas. In 1926, Jessye founded the Dixie Jubilee Choir, which would later be renamed the Eva Jessye Choir. The choir recorded for major record labels and performed at the 1963 March on Washington. In 1935, George Gershwin selected Jessye as choral director for Porgy and Bess, and she would be involved with nearly every production of the show for the next thirty years. During her career, she also published a collection of traditional songs and composed three oratorios.
Eva Jessye died in 1992 at the age of 97.

Luna is looking at an unusually tall telephone box in Maida Vale.
In London, England.
A bit more information about this telephone box can be found at
https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/maida-vales-double-height-telephone-box-48191/
A quote of part of that:
by the French designer, Philippe Starck, more famous for his lemon juice squeezer than phone boxes, and was installed here as part of the permission for the Post Office Telephone Exchange building to be converted into residential flats by Yoo. The developer had originally planned a different work of art, but that was rejected so they turned to Philippe Starck, who had already worked on the interior design for the building to come up with something new.
And he chose a double-decker telephone box.
There are a number of different types of telephone box to choose from, but the K6 model was chosen as the Telephone Exchange was built in 1937, during the reign of King George VI, and the K6 telephone box was commissioned to celebrate King George VI’s Silver Jubilee in 1935.
It was made from two original K6 telephone kiosks which were welded together to form one unit, then restored to “Grade-II listed museum standard”. They also restored the interior to how it would have looked like in 1935, with a bakelite telephone and an original coin box.

Cornwall 2024 - Tag 20
Ladies und Gentlemen!
Eine Seefahrt die ist lustig, Eine Seefahrt, die ist schön, Denn da kann man fremde Länder Und noch manches andre sehn. Hol-la-hi, hol-la-ho, Hol-la-hi-a hi-a hi-a, Hol-la-hia, hol-la-ho, Hol-la-hi, hol-la-ho, Hol-la-hi-a hi-a hi-a, Hol-la-ho ...
Heute geht es ... Richtig!
Good Night!
Angie, Micha und Mister Bunnybear

Strike Walk #4
All around Barrow-in-Furness
Career of Evil chapters 24-27
This is Part 4. There's links to other parts at the end.
Stanley Road terminates in a small play park.
Strike knocks at the Brockbank house but gets no reply, and Robin takes a picture of some nearby workmen, thinking one of them might be Noel. This brings the police to them and they are warned to take no more photos. No-one arrived to arrest me, even though I was loitering for a good twenty minutes snapping pictures like David Bailey. Either security is too lax or they've stopped making submarines and the whole place has been secretly converted to manufacturing Weetabix.
A helpful neighbour tips them off that Holly Brockbank, not Noel, lives at the address they have. Holly works at a bakery in Vickerstown "just up the road from Vengence Street" and drinks in The Crow's Nest pub a few yards away.
Strike and Robin travel to Holly's workplace, so must go over Jubilee Bridge, formerly plain old Walney Bridge but renamed in 1935 for the silver jubilee of George V. It spans "the estuary, where sailing boats bobbed on dirty-looking water or sat marooned on mudflats."
Also there's what looks like a mystery cylindrical buidling, and since TRG all mystery cylindrical buildings have to be investigated. (I don't make the rules, OK?) Can confirm it's part of the Methodist Church and it's square. So that's OK then.
Strike, initially surprised that there's a "Vengeance Street" guesses (as they drive along Amphitrite Street) that the road names refer to the names of ships. According to Wikipedia, there have been seven HMS Amphitrites (including a cruiser launched in 1898 in Barrow) and eight HMS Vengeances (including a nuclear submarine built in Barrow and launched in 1998). I also saw a Euryalus Street and there's a Barrow-built ship of that name, so I think the road names are locally built ships.
"Vengence Street ran up a hill" (and indeed it runs down the other side) and a good hundred yards or so away from the end of it Strike and Robin find "a little, white painted bakery". It was in this building, now pebble-dashed and a beauty salon called "Beautique".
End of Part 4

Looking happy in public doesn't necessarily mean you are happy. So I don't understand why George V and Mary are called a "rigid, boring and affectionless" couple. There is no universal way to express affection towards another person, everyone has their own way of expressing it. George often wrote letters to Mary in which he praised her, he apologized for his "attacks of anger", he showed interest in her by writing things like "my little sweet May" "my darling tootsums" "my darling" and furthermore he admitted (in his letters) the fact that he wasn't able to express his feelings towards his wife outload. Let's say that his love language was probably writing letters. For example, George also wrote kind and sweet letters to his mother Alexandra, who had become deaf over time. It was his way of showing affection. For her part, Mary has always supported her husband by helping him in speeches thanks to her knowledge of history and art, she supported him in decisions by giving him advices, and when in 1920 George was seriously ill and she looked after him with such great care, so much so that when George recovered journalists asked the Royal doctors what was the secret cure that has saved his majesty they replied that it was the Queen (Mary), she refused to let him die. Also in his 1935 Jubilee speech George admitted that "he owed everything to her", referring to his wife. When George died in 1936, Mary wrote only two words in her diary: "am heartbroken". She could have written pages and pages abt him, but she didn't, she limited herself to two words, so simple and yet so precise. Two key words to express all her pain and sorrow. Maybe Mary was in love with her husband or maybe not, but their relationship was undoubtedly based on mutual respect and support. In my opinion, the fact that they both had the same introverted and reserved way of being helped them a lot to understand and support each other.

A Short Odyssey
On July 16, 1935, the newly merged Cunard White Star line was represented by Homeric at the Spithead merchant fleet review for King George V’s silver jubilee. The ship had been launched in 1913 for Norddeutscher Lloyd under the name Columbus, but was given up unfinished six years later as part of war reparations to Great Britain. She was then sold to White Star, and, under the watchful eyes of…
