A Bother {𝐽𝑢𝑎𝑛}
Main Verse
"You don't seem to be in a very good mood," Juan noted as the person joined them for better, he then smirked, an amused, and lecherous smirk he was famous for, "something bothering you?"

Borgia parties always held their own as prestigious, rowdy, and above all, filthy; Even more so with Juan Borgia in charge. Cardinals, nobles and agents arrived by the dozens, more and more by the minute, flooding the halls with laughter and conversation — some soon after, easily categorized as drunken nonsense and other... vocalizations.
Castel Sant’Angelo was decorated as fit — Vibrant red and gold banners streaming down from the ceiling above, brightly lit candles and chandeliers spread around to battle the night, and chestnuts littering the floor for the courtesans to gather in due time.
Though it could be said about any party thrown by the Borgia family, this particular one signified an special occasion... calling for every cardinal, every nobleman of choice, and every Templar agent.
That occasion... was a victory.
A vain celebration, influenced by none other than Cesare Borgia himself. His successful attacks on cities all across Italia left the man aching for recognition and celebration — And, It wasn’t hard to convince his dear captain, Juan, to throw a party.
Malfatto was placed at the sidelines, tending to injuries in an attempt to drown out the sound and mood of the party; A task not easily accomplished as most partygoers stayed far from the Borgia‘s reserved seating, most approaching the basic street doctors hired to keep the party a bit safer... leaving him with idle hands and eyes that wandered, keenly aware.
He was the only doctor here that was employed by Cesare Borgia himself... After the man learned of his skills in medicine, Malfatto was ordered to keep all his agents safe, or else punishment would exceed far more than his own personal conflicts.
With a typical doctor’s stance — albeit, a bit less proper and attention grabbing — he stood at the sidelines and watched the crowd carefully... awaiting the family’s appearance.

Maddalena stood in the gardens at the Papal Palace. She glanced around, taking in the first showings of the Borgia Papacy. The garden party was grand and extravagant, even by Florentine standards. Although she had heard this Pope spared no expense, even just with a month into his Papacy. Although when she heard such things, she was certain they weren't compliments, even if they were said to be.
Letting out a long breath, Maddalena smoothed her hands over the skirts of her dress and glanced around, she wore a dress in the Florentine fashion, colored purple. Her dark brown hair cascaded down her back in soft curls.
Maddalena glanced around the people in the gardens slowly, playing with the ring on her left pointer finger. It was a dark gold ring with the Medici seal on it. It had been her fathers, and his last gift to her before he had died. On her right hand, on her ring finger sat what had been her mother’s wedding ring.
Her head snapped up from looking at her hands as someone passed her, and greeted her. Maddalena smiled graciously and curtsied, bobbing her head before straightening her back. She knew some people that were in attendance, but most were strangers to her. She knew some of them by name, her father mentioning them, and a few of the cardinals she had met when visiting Rome with her mother, but now neither of them were with her.
"Here you are," Giovanni smiled softly, walking up to his older sister, handing her a cup of wine.
"Thank you," Maddalena smiled and took the cup graciously. Raising the silver goblet to her lips she took a small sip as her eyes wandered the crowd again.
“This is a bad idea,” Giovanni said with a soft breath as he took a drink of wine. Although eighteen and only one year younger than Maddalena, he stood about the same height as her, perhaps a few inches taller. He wore the red robes of a Cardinal, a cross around his neck.
“It isn’t,” Maddalena said as she shook her head, glancing at her brother, "not completely."
“You don’t even know if it will work,” Giovanni noted and shook his head, looking over to his sister.
“I have to try. Father made the arrangement and if he were still alive I would honor it. But he isn’t, and neither is the former Pope.” Maddalena answered simply and took another sip of wine. Her eyes wandered over the crowds, catching a glimpse of the new Borgia Pope seated on a lifted stage in a grand chair, dressed in his finest robes.
“So your plan is to barter with Borgia?” Giovanni asked, lowering his voice into a soft whisper.
“It is my only chance." Maddalena answered softly and looked to her brother, "I will not marry him, Giovanni. I will not marry a man who is twice my age and a drunkard. Especially now when there is no benefit to our family." It was perhaps Maddalena's real reason for being in Rome. She of course was happy to visit her brother and her cousin Giulio, but she had a second goal. She sought her freedom from an engagement her father had made years prior with the former Pope. She was to be engaged to the Pope's son, but now that both her father and the former Pope were gone she was hoping she might be able to break the arrangement.
"Piero cannot break the arrangement because he cannot be seen as stepping out of a deal just now as he is taking up father's torch. Father is not here, and therefore…” Maddalena took in a breath, “it leaves Borgia. He is Pope, he can do what he wants.”
Giovanni swallowed but nodded slowly, "if you feel you must try."
Maddalena took in a breath and nodded, "I have to. It may be my only chance." She glanced at her brother and smiled gently before handing him her cup and making her way over to the Borgia family.
