I saw an artist make a post "new chapter in a nutshell" where Aoi looked disgusted like. Hello do we read the same manga she was so jealous of Nene, was mad at him for leaving, blushed at his confession and her face when teru told her she wasn't the Aoi he Ioved kmggg

AKANE WASN'T LIKE THAT WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER?? WHY WOULD HE BE LIKE THAT NOW!! IT WAS FUNNY AT FIRST BUT NOW ITS ENOUGH.

Not gonna lie all those people who say aoiaoi isn't canon make me laugh because:

.1 AOI confirmed her feelings for him,

.2 She looked DISTRAUGHT when Akane and Lemon got together,

.3 She does not wanna date Teru but Akane in canon.

The hate aoiaoi is so ridiculous, they even block people for it.

Aougn hear me out... Akane respecting boundaries In this timeline he didn't confess to her anymore because she told him not to since she was engaged, that's why she looked so surprised when Akane confessed to her.

Meanwhile in the og timeline it's CANON that she told him to keep confessing.

She probably did that so one day he would get tired and give up on her since she think he could never love her true self.

Also how dare someone say it was exaggerated of Aoi to go to the far shore just cause she felt different SHE WAS FUCKING DRUGGED SHE WAS DRUGGED DID YOU NOT READ THE FUCKING MANGA. Aoi was conscious she was just drugged to make her remaining reasons to stay in the near shore get cut off.

Like getting your reasons to live stolen away.

I'm legit thinking that Aoi might be like Mafuyu from pjsk to be frank, both have a mask and wanted to disappear, it's like they can't say a character wants to die. I'm not saying Aoi IS I'm saying she could be, after all there are some signs, not as clear as kou's but still signs.

Its this like almost sad knowing look. Like he knows if he even looks away something could happen. But its also really innocent like he has this special wonder when he looks at mitsuba

And when he doesn’t look surprised his eyes have so much detail, in most panels his eyes are the smallest and simplest but around mitsuba they glow!

His eyes are so wide this boys not even trying to hide the fact that he is head over heels over this ghost😭

THIS IS KILLING ME.

I picked up tbhk in 2021 thinking it was a silly monster of the week style supernatural comedy. Oh my god, how AidaIro has tricked me. I should have turned back before I got too invested, but tbhk is a part of me now, I think I’d die without it.

IVE BEEN SOBBING FOR THE PAST TEN MINUTES AT MIDNIGHT OVER CHAPTER 120!

Spoiler warning for chapter 120 (read it if you haven’t already and suffer with me):

After chapter 119, this world’s Kou and Mitsuba were basically killed in the red house, once again proving that those two can literally never be happy. When Kou said he’d die for Mitsuba in that one chapter, I don’t think this is what he meant.

But when he says he can’t help them go back, I can’t figure out if he’s talking about Mitsuba or the fact that he’s stuck in the red house. Probably both, as he says something later which implies he’s talking about Mitsuba.

Mostly the red house though, as shown in these panels. Which hit me really hard for some reason.

I started sobbing when I saw these panels though,

Just look at his face, there’s something about the shading and detail in his face which captivates you. Watching the one character who is so fixated on trying to have everyone live die was so heart wrenching.

The parallel between this panel and chapter 118 is killing me. In that chapter, Mitsuba and Kou talk about their bad dreams, ones of the old world where Mitsuba is dead. They don’t want to accept that any of those dreams could be real, promising to each other to live their lives to the fullest, only accepting the dreams as real if they failed to forget.

In this chapter, Mitsuba and Kou were never able to live a life where they could ignore those dreams, almost immediately getting killed. So to Kou, he now had to accept those dreams, with their new reality becoming the bad dream he tells Nene to forget.

This panel also killed me.

He’s clearly talking about Mitsuba, who else could he be talking about. Again showing just how much he means to him. Again, it reminds me of the chapter where Kou talks about dying for Mitsuba, showing that he’ll always be there for him, even in death.

I also want to just talk about poor Nene, look at this panel:

This is the second time that one of her only living friends has had some connection with death, but this is the first time one has straight up disappeared before her eyes. This whole ark has Nene being tormented by death and loss and I hate it.

I wanna touch on Teru quickly. I’ve never loved characters with his type of personality before, but I think this ark has completely changed my mind about him. First, there was that face he made talking about his mother being alive, and then him being forced to exorcise his own brother. Which must have been devastating to Teru, considering that his whole motive is to protect his family, the two he has left. I think this is some of the most emotional we’ve seen in Teru. And I’m crying again

I spent like 30 minutes at midnight typing this out because once again AidaIro has delivered a heartbreaking chapter, and I need to talk about it.

Oh my god, I was so busy crying yesterday I didn’t realize his and Mitsuba’s corpses were in the well.

Akane finally trusting Aoi

This single scene shows so much growth for this ship I’m gonna scream

At the start of the arc, Akane was keeping extremely important information from Aoi for the same reason he usually hides things from her- to protect her

It’s no secret that Aoi plays a damsel in distress role throughout the series, be it for Nene, Akane, or Teru. That often makes her a catalyst for the action, the princess the three heroes must save. More specifically, it often leaves her out of the action. I don’t have a problem with damsel in distress Aoi, at least up to the severance arc. It makes sense for her character at that point in time, but that role has clearly been holding her back. She even tells Akane in chapter 69 that she hates being lied to, and why did he lie to her? To protect her

Pre-Ch.69 Akane lied to Aoi about the Clock Keepers to protect her, and in the alteration arc we see him doing the same thing with the timeline. In fact Teru is the one who brought into the action during this current arc, Akane was initially very against it

However, this chapter finally puts Aoi and Akane on equal footing as two heroes. She gets a chance to reverse the roles and save him, using Teru’s sword (I love that this version of Aoi seems to have some exorcist training). Akane’s initial instinct is to save her, to sweep her off her feet so she doesn’t have to fight anymore. He tells her to run and to get to safety. But one look at her face is all it takes for him to realize there’s no way in hell Aoi’s going anywhere

This little change is so important to me, because Akane finally starts prioritizing Aoi’s feelings and decisions over his own instinct to protect her. I’m not saying it’s wrong of him to want to keep her safe, but that protectiveness is often misguided. It leads to him keeping things from Aoi, which feeds into her fear that she’s being rejected (she seems to think that Akane lying to her = he hates her and plans to leave her). It also prevents them from fully being equals, as they fall into very gendered roles- the hero and the princess. Here, Akane stops viewing Aoi as a princess, or as the girl in his life, and finally sees her as an individual capable of making her own decisions. He sees her for who she truly is, and isn’t that what Aoi’s always wanted? So instead of making her run, he tells her to go check on Teru. He stops being so damn overprotective and allows Aoi to fight alongside him (tho, judging by the look on her face I don’t think he had much of a say in what she was going to do lol). This advances Aoi’s narrative role from “girl who needs to be saved” to one of our main heroes. It’s development I didn’t even know I needed from her, and I couldn’t be happier to see it. It also strengthens her relationship with Akane so much because fighting alongside this version of Aoi will likely give him more faith in our original Aoi. I’m very excited to see where their relationship goes from here, I hope we see more of the Sunflower Troupe fighting as a trio

Between TeruAoi, Terukane and Aoikane which one do u think has the most chance of becoming canon with the story rn? I saw a lot of people on twt saying that Terukane has the most chance right now with the new timeline but I don't fully get why

Aoikane was confirmed canon in the old timeline, and it still has the most chance of being canon in the new timeline.

Just look at these panel. These aren't small implications, these are loud "HEY, AOI AND AKANE STILL LIKE EACH OTHER!!" panels.

Terukane has no chance of being canon, at least, not in an endgame way, the most I can see it happening is Teru having a one-sided crush on Akane. And even that isn't as likely as the overall fandom want people to believe, cause we have gotten a lot of teruaoi hints.

HOWEVER, while unlikely I am not dismissing the possibility of one-sided terukane, cause aidairo has put a lot of effort into keeping Teru's crush ambiguous (like teru not telling his crush's gender when rejecting someone in chapter 1). So there is no way to disprove for sure that Teru doesn't like Akane.

The thing is that teruaoi also can't be disproven unless people go out of their way to have the most uncharitable view possible on the ship build ups. Teru has had so many vague build ups that tiptoe between 'platonic' and 'romantic' with both Aois, to the point even something as impossible as 'Teru like both aois' cannot be explicitly shut down. Not yet. So one-sided terukane wouldn't surprise me if it was canon or if it wasn't.

Now enjoying terukane is one thing, is a good ship with a really awesome and complex dynamic, but the people who genuinely believe they are being written to be canon and that making them canon was always the intention bother me, cause they aren't analyzing the manga, they just... see what they want to see.

I haven't been on twitter in a while but I don't have to be there to know that most terukane shippers there will see the newest chapter and zoom in on this scene to go "LOOK HOW MUCH AKANE CARES!! THIS IS ANOTHER PROOF TERUKANE RELATIONSHIP IS EVOLVING AND WILL BE CANON"

but they will pretend this part doesn't exist.

so at least to me, these 'analysis' read less like people that genuinely love the manga and enjoy analyzing every detail to try to foreshadow the relationships that will be explored, and more like people in denial trying to insert their headcanons and preferences into canon " I WANT terukane to be Endgame so I will ONLY see the terukane parts cause that's what matters, everything else in this manga is a mistake so it shouldn't be considered."

I kinda wish more Teru fans agreed with his actual views on supernaturals- I feel like literally the only Teru fan in existence rn that actually agrees that almost all supernaturals are evil and not even other Teru fans seem to think this way- I'm starting to feel left out of the group that I thought were my people...I miss old Teru fans sometimes...I want someone to talk to about this and we're both just like "omg ya he was so right and ___ proves it!!!" okay so i've seen people on pinterest saying that mitsuba is not a femboy and get mad at people who say he is, it's kind of irritating me and ill try to get my point across as easily as possible.

femboy = a man/boy who is presenting in a feminine way. it's literally in the name. a feminine boy. yeah that's what mitsuba is. he is a femboy

the problem is not people stating that fact, is the fact that the word "femboy" is taken, by some people, as an insult, something that's supposed to be funny or shameful. even if subconciously, that's how some queer people see it too and it's insanely disappointing.

and that sometimes leads to fictional characters who are femboys to be abbreviated to that characteristic, much more often by people outside the fandom.

like i get it, when i talk to my friends about tbhk and when i mention mitsuba they go "oh, the femboy one" or smthg like that it is kind of annoying, it's never pleasant to hear a character you like get abrivieted to something that is supposed to sound funny, cause you actually know that there is so much more to them than that, but saying that he isn't a femboy just to, idk cope or something is erasing parts of that character. which is shameful if you say you actually care about the character booo tomato boooo

adding to my previous post... i Think more people need to pay attention to Hanako being shorter than Yashiro y'know!?!? it always makes me a little upset (not in a serious way! a silly way) when people draw Hanako taller, blehhh

because Hanako being shorter (and younger) than Yashiro makes their relationship cuter . how ? because Hanako is NOT Yashiro's type... Yashiro likes taller and older than her guys, and Hanako is not any of those things ...!!! but she still falls in Love w him!!!

Yashiro mentions many times how Hanako is not her type, how she doesn't like that he's shorter than her! but as you know, she ends up liking him anyways

There's multiple people on tik tok calling Aida and Iro Loli/Shotacons (🤢) i do not think that's true at all. Aida has always drawn very childish like it's her artstyle but she's not over sexualising it.

Someone made nasty comments on Nene having boobs for some reason even though she's 15 she's going through puberty of course she has them it's normal to have them I don't know what people are on.

She drew her with appropriate body type for her age, it's fine it's not weird.

Sure Aida's drawn some weird stuff, but so have most mangakas ever. Gege, Fujimoto, Kishimoto, a lot of them have also drawn scenes with implications. (Yuji and his posters- Denji being groomed and THAT one chapter- Kakashi being Kakashi and Tsunade ) of course it's not an excuse at all. It's like a child saying "well she did so so can I!" Just because others do it doesn't mean you're excused.

It's pretty annoying how people also use that analogy to try and get away with drawing CHILDREN in nsfw.

There's some weird asses on Ao3 (mainly Mitsubirb Ew Ew Ew) using the excuse that the author and illustrator do sometimes weird stuff with the manga, BUT MAYBE CONSIDER NOT?? DOING IT?? THEY ARE KIDS. The oldest student is Sakura, Who Is 18, but was 17 at the very start because her school year is between 17-18 years.

I take things very seriously but I don't think it's right to treat this like that.

Gonna be ranting about the way harassment is talked about so leniently in tbhk.

That part where Tsukasa kissed Nene makes me so mad because we didn't get to even see Nene's genuine reactions, she only thought manwha type stuff it's so annoying.

Let's also talk about Hanako he's also harassed people constantly.

Looking up Nene's skirt, throwing Kou to the ground numerous times, never respecting boundaries even when told to.

I feel like I should add how both Aida and Iro are guilty of this in most of their stories actually.

Sure it's a popular thing in Japan to treat it as a joke but that's exactly why so many horrible shit heads can get away with harassment.

Oh god let's not forget the scene everyone on twitter and tik tok hates.

Chapter 69 during the aoiaoi fight, I will always defend it to my heart forever and ever but I acknowledge that the way Akane was touching her was kinda weird that's why I struggled to read it at first. The kiss at the end was consensual but holding her in place, and we whatever that panel of him was I don't wanna think about it was definitely not consensual.

I don't like how it's treated. I don't care that it's a comedy sometimes or that a shounen trope like this are common, both writer and artist are women I'd expect them to try and treat it with a little more care.

I've seen how most Japanese readers don't really address the bad things of the manga or maybe they just don't notice and I don't think that's good at all.

So many characters have done weird things I'm just picking who didn't, mitsuba and the adults seem to be the only ones who haven't harassed anyone really, even then they have faults.

Even Kou , he tied up Mitsuba it kinda pisses me off for no reason. Maybe im just petty but I knows it's supposed to be comedy, I still laugh at that thing but it's still weird how Kou tied him up in the first place and had no objections by Mitsuba at first maybe I'm thinking too hard about it.

I despise that part where Hanako enters Nene's body. Not consensual, plus using her as a way to get away with things.

People see it like a funny moment but it's still sexual harassment and harassment in general I hate is so much. The fact that he commented on Aoi's breast size makes me even more mad because he touched it wanting or not, and decided to say it even making fun of her.

Plus Nene was obviously uncomfortable with it I'm not sure how she was able to look at Aoi ever again.

Also poor Kou???? He's a poor 14 year old boy Hanako does not need to do that with Nene's body I feel so bad for both Kou and Nene. Kou wanted to do something about it but he couldn't even dare to look at the scene Kou Minamoto they could never make me hate you.

English translation fucked it up a bit , they made him comment on the occurrence saying "seductive" but what i think is more fit is "embarassing". AUGHHH tbhk stop putting your main characters in weird scenes challenge failed.

The image in the first volume of Nene being naked errr it's censored yes but weird. We could've had just hanako talking about it but we didn't need an artist rendition. Someone made an edit of that panel making her covered parts visible and it disgusts me like it would for other people too.

Talking so freely about wanting to see her naked is very weird from Hanako's part I don't exactly know if it does count as sexual harassment but for me it is.

I think we forget Sumire tried to erffghnb with Hakubo and I like that all she got was a headbutt. Oh oh and well Hakubo's kiss was uncalled for but her slap was even more.

The scene where she gets eaten goes down easier if you remember she was completely fine with it, both of them where okay with it happening (i still struggle reading that part 😓) so it's not really that bad.

I miss when i started watching the anime in 2022 and i though the anime was the craziest coolest best animated thing i had seen

Then i decided i couldnt wait for season 2 so i read the manga which at that point went up to right before the severance (if im right)

And i was silly and about a girl and her silly crush getting herself in a deal with a silly ghost who protcted her and yeah mitsukou has always been sad but it wasn’t like so hopeless like it is now.

I want my silly high school accult/gay(im looking at you mitsuba) manga that i read for the good feels

just finished episode one of Season 2 finally, I’m actually loosing it I love it, I can see how the animation has improved, looking a bit more close to the manga’s. I love the voice acting and I had to pause at moments because I couldn’t stop being so happy about the new episode, it’s been so long, I’m so so glad tbhk fans are finally getting the love we’ve been waiting for. I kinda tweaked out when Hanako possessed Nene’s body. I’ve read the whole arc for this point in the story and I can’t wait to see it adapted into the anime. I really really love the new opening theme, they always cook so hard! I like the new outro but for me nothing tops Tiny Light

Now for my obligatory monthly tbhk rant post:

OH GOD, OH DEAR GOD

IT’S BEEN VERBALLY SAID, KOU AND MITSUBA ARE IN THE WELL 😭

Like you knew that they were by the implication of last chapter, but now that they said they’re in there, the impact really hits.

Kou and the Mitsuba of this world who promised each other that they’d live a full life ignoring whatever happened in their past life. A Kou and mitsuba who never had to deal with mitsuba’s death, immediately fucking died and are in the well.

This means that mitsuba’s spirit is still probably wandering the house, if he hasn’t joined the other house spirits or passed to the far shore.

And I want to curse out AidaIro for literally killing everyone, reading this chapter I verbally said, “oh god they’re all dying.”

And once again the weight of her friends lives is on Nene, even in a world which was supposed to be their escape, where they were supposed to live untangled with the supernatural.

Something must have cursed them with this fate, as why would Kou and mitsuba be led to the red house with an empty form. I wonder is the red house transcends timelines in some way, like despite still having Tsukasa sacrifice himself for Amane, they end up back at the red house.

And poor Akane, he went through changing the timelines to try and make everyone happy. Where they were able to live in a world where none of them needed to die. And yet here they are at the red house, probably about to die.

I wonder how Nene is gonna react to seeing Hanako in their original timeline, after knowing that he could have easily become what he is in this chapter, after seeing him so nonchalantly kill and hurt her friends.

I also wonder is that personality that we see in the red house is influenced by the red house spirit, in the past chapters, he looks confused and acts harmless.

Oh and this image

I don’t think that Kou and Mitsuba are in this image, as it would take away from the whole unseen horror thing. And I can’t see Kou’s traffic safety earring, or their school uniforms. But seeing the corpses really just sets in that the Yugi Amane (possibly possessed) of this world is a serial killer.

And once again AidaIro has bestowed another horribly sad chapter to us. Despite our sorrow and lack of hope for any sort of happy ending, we are not able to escape tbhk’s grip. Thanks a lot AidaIro for being an amazingly good writer, because I don’t often read manga with a lot of death, but I am physically unable to pull myself away from this series.

I think Tbhk has a bad impression on the outside of the fandom, due to the weird name and sort of generic first few chapters. I have friends who dropped it after watching the anime, and every time I hear that I’m like, “noo, read it, the anime left out literally all the plot. The cut the clock keeper arc and watered down everything.”

Once you make it past hell of mirrors in the manga, everything gets just better and better.

I got a headcanon that after the young exorcist arc Hanako began to see Kou as super cool and more attractive than he gave him credit because despite Nene explicitly saying Kou is not her type, Hanako abruptly gets WAY MORE wary if they are, like he is scared she'll notice he is 'objectively' boyfriend material and fall in love (too).

Honestly Hanako finding Kou more attractive immediately after the young exorcist arc is pretty plausible. I mean. The inherent romantism of taking a bullet of lightning for your enemy, the kindness expressed in the willingness to vouch for someone you once deemed evil, the bravery in it all…yeah I’d be a wary too if Kou was willing to do all of that for Hanako then you can only imagine what he'd do for Nene. This gave me an idea that Hanako at some point probably couldn't tell who he was more jealous of. Was it Kou for supposedly being the better potential boyfriend material that Nene deserves? Or was it Nene for being able to connect to Kou in a way that Hanako couldn't? They're both humans, plus he was a boy and she was a girl, could I make it anymore obvious? There's plenty room for them to develop feelings and if Nene chose to pursue Kou, Hanako couldn't say he didn't see it coming. It's only natural that someone as strong, sweet and relentlessly giving as Kou would be bound to attract someone as equally sweet as Nene.

Still, there's something he can't shake off about the jealousy. It's something more complicated than Kou possibly stealing Nene away from him. It's something much more indigestible that sits underneath the fluttery feelings he gets when Kou laughs or smiles. It's something that he won't ever allow himself to explore because of his internalized homophobia. It's envy. Envy of Nene who has the right to be boy crazy all she wants because it's what's expected of a teenage girl. It's envy of her being able to explore her options, namely Kou, in a way that Hanako cannot since he's 1. Not a girl, and 2. A ghost. It's an agonizing realization to dissect so Hanako will stay ignorant to it, hoping that if he pretends hard enough it'll just go away on its own.
