already seeing people criticise the christmas special as being against covid restrictions. respectfully, no, joy was clearly very specifically mad about partygate and the hypocrisy of our elected officials.

Something I adore from Doctor Who is the way something so devastating can look so beautiful. How moments or people can be both painful and an amazing ride all at the same time.
How someone as lonely as Joy could have such a happy name. And how something as horrible as her death ends up being such a gorgeous ocasion, and a happy future for Joy and those who delight themselves in her light.

no, that's not what it implied?
She said her and her mom are going to be side by side.
We just saw Joy bringing Miss Almondo up to the stars following through with the statement.
What it implied was that Joy was there at her mom's moment of great need all along and her mother was so happy.
So did that ending imply that it was actually Joy that offed her mum in the end

oh my god. she had to say goodbye to her mum on an ipad because of the rules, while everyone who made the rules was partying. and she let her down and she can never go home on christmas. that may be a little too real.

today doctor who told me that the best thing a lonely autistic kind-hearted doormat people-pleaser can do is sacrifice themselves for a noble cause. not that i haven’t considered it before. LOVE when this show says “death doesn’t necessarily have to be a negative or the end, you live on as a story or a star”, it’s such a refreshing change from all the stay alive at any cost propaganda

"Joy to the World" preview analysis
youtube
The Doctor is bouncing through time trying to deliver someone a ham and cheese toastie and a pumpkin latte.
Notably, he doesn't seem to know who the food is meant for. A message on the psychic paper, perhaps?
He visits Manchester during a WWII bombing raid, the Orient Express in 1962, and Mount Everest basecamp in 1953 (the year it was first summited).
Basil (the old man) wonders about the door the Doctor came through. Since the same room appears on the other side of the door in the Queens Hotel, the train, and the Sandringham Hotel in 2024, this question is warranted.
Joy appears to be recently single, since she says she wasn't expecting to be lonely for Christmas.
The hotel manager is a Silurian. He also does not appear to know what a hairdryer is on sight. It's not like Silurians really need them, though.
He says "The star seed will bloom, and the flesh will rise."
It looks like Joy is the intended recipient of the food. If so, how did the Doctor know how to bring it? (see above)

I think the fact that Joy was underutilized in the episode explains why some people would read the ending as pro-suicide. We didn't get nearly enough of her, and she barely spends half an hour with the Doctor before she takes in the star seed. She's the Dan Lewis of one-shot companions.
thoughts about this episode:
-nicola coughlan was surprisingly meh, didn't really buy her performance for most of the episode
-anita was the real star, love that they centered an actress that's a bit lesser known so far
-the plot felt like the power of three hiding inside the titanic christmas special and I didn't hate that concept
-writing was a bit wonky but that's standard for new new who
-pretty cute in general! definitely not boring, idk where everyone is coming from with that
PS did anyone think that ending felt kinda like a pro suicide message? Like moffat just went "yeah if you're depressed because your mum died you should just kill yourself to save humanity lol"
