The Third Lover

I had forgotten Father's Day was coming up, and I had only just learned that my father likes Ganymede and Io, so I decided to quickly paint this piece for him!

I really enjoyed working on this; I'm still definitely lacking experience, but I've seen a noticeable increase in the quality of my art since I started painting in values.

I've got a long way to go, but I'm happy to finally be making art I can finally almost be proud of. :)

Jumpin' Jupiter (1955)

Gold solidus of the ill-fated Roman emperor Jovian (r. 363-364 CE). As senior member of the Imperial bodyguard unit known as Scholae, Jovian accompanied Julian "the Apostate" on his campaign against the Parthians. Following Julian's death from a wound sustained in battle, the army selected Jovian as his successor. The Christian Jovian went on to undo his predecessor's attempts at restoring traditional Greco-Roman religion; he issued an edict of toleration, allowing both Nicene and Arian worship, but banned magic and divination. He attempted to reach Constantinople and establish his rule firmly, but it was not to be: he was found dead in his tent, perhaps accidentally smothered by poisonous fumes (though, inevitably, there was suspicion of foul play). He was only 33.

Jovian*Tries to slip a coin into the slot of a snack vending machine but couldn’t reach it.* “Curse you! Do not deny me my snack. You there! Drone person. Make this machine give me a bag of glorb cookies!”

Hoop “Not cooperating, hu? This heap of junk used to be on the Viral Tank. It's is probably older than both of us. Used to glitch on me and Hoop too. You look like you have a hard head, so let me show you a trick.

Accuracy is key here…. HUUUP!!" *Headbutts vending machine 3 times*

Two packs of glorb cookies plop down.

“And there you have it.”

Jovian snatches up the cookies, turns to say something to the strange foot soldier, but he disappeared.

[Wish I had the time to draw this out in it's entirety. I would be as distressed as Jovian if the vending machine denied me my favorite cookies. Why is the world so cruel??

Tried to think of something interesting. Jovian accidentally interacting with Hoop's ghost was the best I came up with. ]

Jupiter's Swirls from Juno

Big storms are different on Jupiter. On Earth, huge hurricanes and colossal cyclones are centered on regions of low pressure, but on Jupiter, it is the high-pressure, anti-cyclone storms that are the largest. On Earth, large storms can last weeks, but on Jupiter, they can last years. On Earth, large storms can be as large as a country, but on Jupiter, large storms can be as large as planet Earth. Both types of storms are known to exhibit lightning. The featured image of Jupiter's clouds was composed from images and data captured by the robotic Juno spacecraft as it swooped close to the massive planet in August 2020. A swirling white oval is visible nearby, while numerous smaller cloud swirls extend into the distance. On Jupiter, light-colored clouds are usually higher up than dark clouds. Despite their differences, studying storm clouds on distant Jupiter provides insights into storms and other weather patterns on familiar Earth.

Hi! So, I wasn't very happy with how this piece had come out when I last uploaded it. It felt a bit out of focus, and there was something about the lighting that was bugging me. So, with help from the amazing @whirligig-girl and my great friend @bjekkergauken, I did what I could to improve upon it!

It's not perfect, and there are definitely some areas I would love to fix if I had more time, but I think I'm satisfied with how this came out! Image ID will be in the reblogs, like last time. :)

Would you believe me if I tell you that these two are only 10 years old and were encouraged to use weapons of their own choosing in their training? This is what they chose for one of their search and retrieve assessments to earn points for their team.

Jovian would prefer to do things solo. He believes having someone tag along will distract his focus and get in his way. That’s why he takes off on his own a lot when he was younger. The military brought be to his peak. Jovian likes to use his own made weapons.

Orieon only tagged along because he doesn’t like how his brother is behaving and want’s to make sure he makes it through the training alive.he doesn’t mind using the equipment given to him, as long as it’s good to defend himself and his brother.

These two don’t always see eye to eye.(literally) But when the time comes for them to where they have no choose but to work together, Jovian will put his pride aside and do it. Orieon’s just glad he got to spend time with his older brother without having to deal with his nasty attitude all the time.

Jovian is a REALLY good boy! I’ve been training him to eat Bug Bite pellets off my pointer finger. he was wary at first, but tonight he was practically launching himself at the food to grab it. I never thought I’d find myself training a fish tricks/to like me but here I am 😳
