Artists Using Crochet
Try to think of crochet outside of any preconceived ideas you might have about it! Crocheting is a just another way of constructing fiber and fiber-like materials into a structure that can be manipulated to serve your art production.
Here are some examples of contemporary artists using crocheted (or knitted) processes in their work to inspire you….

Some things I saw at the Bay Area Now 8 exhibition at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Am I procrastinating on the assignment I’m supposed to be writing about these things that’s due in less than 3 hours? Absolutely. I included the artists names in the captions, except for the first image.

Josh Faught
Josh Faught is a San Fransisco-based fiber artist who creates sculptures, textiles, collages, and paintings. His work incorporates techniques such as knitting, crochet, and weaving, and addresses topics of craft and queer history.
Almost all his work is handmade. Woven, crotched ,dyeing almost everything is hand done which inspired me to do woven swatches from left out fabrics.

Josh Faught - similar to my practise.
Josh Faught is a San Francisco-based fiber artist who creates sculptures, textiles, collages, and paintings. His work incorporates techniques such as knitting, crochet, and weaving, and addresses topics of craft and queer history.
His pieces are Hand dyed, hand woven hemp, cotton, and gold lamé & abstraction. I absolutely fell in love with this work when I saw he unclifed text into his weaving, the idea of creating a large scale mixed media installation is all I want to do.
Faught’s work takes the form of sculptures made from hand-dyed, hand-woven fibers. Typically stitched onto stretched linen or draped over wooden armature, his pieces are highly embellished, featuring homespun construction methods—loom-weaving, knitting and crocheting—as well as text elements and kitschy found objects that provide a structure for exploring the intertwined histories of craft, gender politics and what the artist calls a “compulsion toward decoration.”
If I were to do this/have my own take on his work I feel I would screen print the words on a fabric sheet and intertwine it somehow, or even project the words onto fabric.

I’m feeling angsty so I’m thinking about getting into a huge fight with josh where someone storms out and maybe it’s a few days before you talk to each other again because you’re both so stubborn but someone gives in and there’s a really hot makeup involved
Warning: smut...
“I don’t know what you want me to say.” Josh has his jaw clinched and his hand firmly wrapped around his Fuji bottle.
“I want you to say you are sorry.” You don’t even look up from where your hands and picking at the imaginary lint from your leggings.
“I shouldn’t have to.” He almost growls at you. The fight was stupid but Josh was in the wrong and you weren’t just going to brush it under the rug. You look up long enough to see Josh look at his phone again.
“You have to go don’t you?” You return to picking.
“Yes, I cannot miss my flight.” He pushes himself up from where he was leaning on the counter. “I hate leaving fighting with you.” He starts to move towards you.
“Then say you are sorry.” You don’t move from where you are sitting on the couch but you look up at him.
“You know I’m not.” His dips down and kisses the top of your head.
“Josh? Really? You are leaving for the week and this is how you are leaving?” You go to stand.
“(Y/n), yes. I’m not apologizing for something that wasn’t my fault. I’ll see you when I get back.”
“Josh, come on!” You almost raise your voice and that makes Josh turn around from grabbing the door handle.
“NO! I’m not. You can bat your eyes and beg but I’m not saying I’m sorry.” Josh hisses out at you. He grabs his bag and slams the door behind him. You feel the tears starting to well up.
You’ve faught with Josh before where someone has left and he almost always calls on this way to the rink or airport to tell you how much he loved you. This time it was radio silence. You didn’t think anything of it until it was day 3 of his road trip and you still hadn’t gotten anything from him. You got snaps from several of the boys with Josh in it but your boyfriend hadn’t even sent you a simple emoji text.
Laying in bed you hear the door open and shut. You close your eyes as Josh comes in. Pretending to sleep is hard but somehow make it believable. Josh must had stripped quickly and you feel his hot skin on yours. He kisses your shoulder and breathes you in.
“I know you are awake babe.” He whispers into your ear. You shift a little so you can see him.
“You didn’t even try to call, text, snap...telegram, smoke signal...nothing.” You look deep into his eyes trying to see any remorse.
“(Y/n), I’m so sorry. I let a stupid fight get to me and I missed talking to you.” He rubs your face.
“Are you sorry about not talking to me or about our fight?” You don’t melt into his touch like you normally would.
“Baby, everything. The boys told me to just fucking call you but with each day that passed I felt like such an ass and then didn’t call.” His touch was intentional and his eyes soft.
“I missed you. And I should have called you.” You finally move and place your hands on his chest.
“Oh have I missed you.” Josh moves and presses himself on top of you.
“Babe, you are so....” you drop your hand down to run your hand down his length.
“I want to make this week up to you.” Josh says and kisses you passionately then makes his way down your body. Carefully moving your tank off your body and taking his time to re-familiarize himself with your body. “Baby, I really am sorry.” He inches down to your core and you arch your back with anticipation.
Josh’s strong forearm rests over your hips to keep you from bucking up as his tongue caresses your clit. You feel his fingers press into you and your breath hitches from the pressure.
“Josh.” You breathe out and reach down to grab a handful of his hair.
“I got you baby.” Josh pulls back for a moment to look up at you.
“Babe.” You pull up on his hand wrapped around your thigh. Josh looks at you and pulls his fingers out and sucks them.
“My girl needs all of me.” You don’t even have a chance to agree but Josh is pressing fully into you. The moan that comes out of your mouth just makes Josh press further into you.
While being rough Josh is also tender. He pulls your leg up over his hips and you pull him into you. “Fuck” he says under his breath and you know feel your orgasm building.
“Come on baby. How much have you missed me?” You nibble his ear while whispering. With that Josh cums with you. He collapses into you and rolls you on top of him. Kissing you sweetly he pulls your hair out of your face.
“I really am sorry but...” you lift up a little ready to start fighting again.
“But What Josh?” You clench your jaw ready to start this fight up again.
“But...” he pulls you down and kisses you deeply. “But...that was damn amazing way to make up.” He smirks at you and you go to smack his chest but his hand grabs your wrist. Kissing you hard he breathes into you “round 2 eh?”
