Understanding the Jordan Lubricants Market: Trends and Growth Prospects
Market Overview
The Jordan Lubricants Market is projected to reach a volume of 32.71 million liters in 2024, with growth expected to continue to 36.46 million liters by 2029. This marks a steady compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.19% over the forecast period from 2024 to 2029. This growth trajectory underscores the increasing demand for lubricants across Jordan’s automotive, industrial, and transportation sectors, as industries seek products that enhance efficiency and equipment longevity.
Key Drivers of Growth
Increasing Vehicle Ownership
Rising urbanization and increasing disposable income are contributing to the growing number of vehicles on Jordan's roads. With more vehicles, the demand for automotive lubricants, including engine oils, gear oils, and brake fluids, is also on the rise.
Industrial Development
Jordan’s industrial sector, particularly the manufacturing and construction industries, requires a substantial volume of lubricants for machinery maintenance and operational efficiency. This industrial demand plays a critical role in driving the market forward.
Focus on High-Quality Lubricants
There is an increasing shift toward high-performance and synthetic lubricants in Jordan as industries and consumers look for options that enhance machinery longevity and provide better resistance to extreme temperatures.
Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly Options
With global attention on sustainability, Jordan is seeing a rising demand for eco-friendly lubricants. This shift is not only a response to global environmental standards but also a strategic move by the industry to cater to environmentally conscious consumers.
Future Outlook and Opportunities
The Jordanian lubricants market holds several opportunities for growth, especially with the increasing adoption of premium synthetic lubricants. Innovation in product formulations and expansion of distribution networks can help manufacturers capture a larger market share. Furthermore, as environmental regulations tighten, there will be more room for biodegradable and sustainable lubricant solutions that cater to Jordan’s diverse industrial and automotive sectors.
Conclusion
With robust demand from both the automotive and industrial sectors, the lubricants market in Jordan is positioned for steady growth. By addressing the challenges and tapping into sustainable trends, the market is expected to see continued innovation and expansion, contributing positively to Jordan’s economic landscape.

The scent of popcorn wafts through the living room. Assorted candies and snacks are spread out across the coffee table. You’ve loaded the sofa up with blankets and pillows for maximum comfort.
Is there anything better than a movie night?
I can think of one thing that upgrades the experience: When those movies you settle in to enjoy offer value beyond mere entertainment. I would guess I’m not alone in saying I’ve watched plenty of flicks that had a lasting impact on me.
In particular, I like watching stories that help me grow professionally, by providing me with perspective, applicable lessons, or simply inspiration.
These 9 films, in my opinion, all have something to offer for today’s sales pros. They cover a vast assortment of genres and time periods and subject matter, but at the end of the day, these are all movies about sales, one way or another.
9 Movies About Sales You Should Watch
Death of a Salesman
Based on the classic play by Arthur Miller, this movie was made for the small screen (it premiered on CBS in August of 1985) but offered Hollywood-caliber drama and performances (from Dustin Hoffman and John Malkovich, among others.)
As its name suggests, Death of a Salesman is not the most uplifting of affairs — its protagonist is a failed traveling salesman whose life more or less falls apart — but ultimately there are good takeaways here about setting realistic goals, and accepting ourselves for who we really are.
Money Quote: “Walk in with a big laugh. Don’t look worried. Start off with a couple of your good stories to lighten things up. It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it because personality always wins the day.” — Willy Loman
Glengarry Glen Ross
The early scene in which Blake, an arrogant hotshot sent from downtown to motivate a lagging collection of real estate salesmen, arrives and verbally berates the embattled team is unforgettable. Alec Baldwin’s vitriolic, profanity-laced takedown is riveting, hilarious, and heartbreaking all the same time. “Put that coffee down! Coffee’s for closers!” he barks at Shelley Levene (Jack Lemmon) as he meekly tries to pour a mug.
Levene is one of the classic salesman archetypes in cinema, personifying the pressure and rejection that can be incumbent to the profession. (The character became something of a pop-culture stereotype in and of itself.) The movie is a fun throwback to a bygone era, with salesmen dialing up prospects from phone booths and desperately yearning for that coveted stack of Glengarry leads. (If only they had Sales Navigator to generate their own!)
Money Quote: “A-B-C. A: Always, B: Be, C: Closing. Always be closing.” — Blake
The Big Kahuna
Most B2B salespeople know about the thrill of chasing that huge, game-changing deal. The one that makes your month, or even your year. That’s the focus here, with the titular “Big Kahuna” being the CEO of a large company who is targeted by a trio of industrial lubricant sales/marketing reps at a trade show.
The interplay between these three characters and the many reflective moments make this comedy a worthwhile view even beyond the laughs.
Money Quote: “It doesn’t matter whether you’re selling Jesus or Buddha or civil rights or ‘How to Make Money in Real Estate With No Money Down.’ That doesn’t make you a human being; it makes you a marketing rep. If you want to talk to somebody honestly, as a human being, ask him about his kids. Find out what his dreams are — just to find out, for no other reason. Because as soon as you lay your hands on a conversation to steer it, it’s not a conversation anymore; it’s a pitch. And you’re not a human being; you’re a marketing rep.” — Phil Cooper
The Pursuit of Happiness
A career in sales can be a struggle, requiring us to look deep within ourselves. No film epitomizes this truth better than The Pursuit of Happiness, in which Will Smith plays a medical equipment salesman named Chris Gardner who finds himself homeless after a run of bad luck. He tries to dig his way out of destitution and provide a better life for his son.
Gardner’s sad plight turns into an uplifting resurgence as he employs a variety of savvy sales tactics during an unpaid internship at a brokerage firm, focusing on the highest-value prospects and relying on his strong interpersonal skills. Through impressive performance, he earns a paying job and eventually starts his own successful company. I dare you to watch this film and not feel utterly inspired.
Money Quote: “Walk that walk and go forward all the time. Don’t just talk that talk, walk it and go forward. Also, the walk didn’t have to be long strides; baby steps counted too. Go forward.” — Chris Gardner
The Wolf of Wall Street
Here we have the flip side of the coin. Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort rises from humble beginnings to Wall Street kingpin thanks to his ability to execute (and teach) the hard sell. Once he gets on the phone, his persuasive abilities are divine as he convincingly paints worthless stocks as can’t-miss opportunities.
Belfort quickly climbs the ladder as he builds his company Stratton Oakmont into a powerhouse, all while he spirals out of control amidst drugs and debauchery, and things eventually unravel in rather spectacular fashion.
Money Quote: “The only thing standing between you and your goal is the [BS] story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.” — Jordan Belfort
Boiler Room
Like Wolf of Wall Street, Boiler Room depicts aggressive brokers peddling junk stocks with inflated promises in search of hefty commissions, albeit in a very different style. Compared to most other movies listed here, this one takes a somewhat more serious look at the impact and consequences of dishonest sales tactics.
Money Quote: “There is no such thing as a no-sale call. A sale is made on every call you make. Either you sell the client some stock or he sells you a reason he can’t. Either way, a sale is made, the only question is who is gonna close? You or him?” — Jim Young
Jerry Maguire
After dramatically breaking off from his sports agency to go it alone, Maguire (played by Tom Cruise) has to sell himself to clients to remain viable. The decision that sent him down this path is one that resonates in today’s digital sales world: quality over quantity. He wanted to work with fewer clients in order to deliver better and more personalized service.
Ultimately, Maguire is only able to convince one client to stay with him at his new solo venture, but the strong relationship he builds with Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) eventually gets noticed by others, opening new opportunities and saving his career.
Money Quote: “The key to this business is personal relationships.” — Dicky Fox
Moneyball
Sticking in the sports realm, we come to the story of Billy Beane (Brad Pitt), who transformed the way baseball front offices operate with his innovative approach as Oakland A’s general manager back in the early 2000s. This film (based on a book of the same name) shows how Beane built a small-market contender by identifying and capitalizing on market inefficiencies. In this case, his data-driven approach points him toward on-base percentage as an undervalued asset.
You are (probably) not in the business of constructing an MLB roster, but the takeaway for sellers is this: What’s your market inefficiency? Where is the untapped opportunity in your space that competing salespeople are overlooking?
Beane’s attempts to sway traditional mindsets in the organization toward a new, unfamiliar way of thinking might help inspire any sales pro who faces a firmly established status quo.
Money Quote: “We are card counters at the blackjack table. And we’re gonna turn the odds on the casino.” — Billy Beane
A Christmas Story
Okay, this one’s a little outside the box. You won’t find this cherished holiday staple on many “Best Sales Movie” lists, because it’s not about sales in any way. Or is it?
Throughout the entire movie, young Raphie is trying to sell his parents on the Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle that he so desires, playing up the benefits (a compass in the stock, and this thing that tells time) while downplaying the widespread objections (one is liable to shoot his eye out). Eventually, his resolve wins out.
It’s an epic tale of tenacity and persistence.
Money Quote: “It was a classic, mother BB-gun block. ‘You’ll shoot your eye out!’ That deadly phrase, honored many times by hundreds of mothers, was not surmountable by any means known to Kid-dom, but such was my mania, my desire for a Red Ryder carbine, that I immediately began to rebuild the dike.” — Ralphie Parker
Watch and Learn
Not all of these movies cast the sales profession in the best light. Few of them tie directly to the work we do today of engaging prospects and building relationships in the digital space. But as you watch these heralded classics, you’re bound to come away with some insight and food for thought.
At the very least, you’ll have a stomach full of popcorn and candy. Now there’s an easy sell.

Fascinating expose on the real estate properties owned by SEXUAL PREDATOR and SEX TRAFFICER #JeffreyEpstein. LOCK HIM UP
Every Property Owned by Sleazy Financier Jeffrey Epstein
By Spencer Peterson | Published January 9, 2015 12:52 pm | Curbed | Posted July 8, 2019 |
Welcome to What Do They Own?, a new Curbed series where we take someone making headlines and try to figure out how much of the world they own, and by extension, how far they've gone to insulate themselves from the world.
Disgraced financier Jeffrey Epsteinbecame a registered sex offender in 2008, when he was convicted of soliciting and underage girl for prostitution at his Palm Beach Mansion. Often erroneously referred to as a billionaire, Epstein runs a shady money management firm based in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he owns a 70-acre island, one of the places named in a recent suit alleging that he forced a minor he kept as a "sex slave" to have sex with Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz and Prince Andrew, Duke of York, on multiple occasions. His portfolio also includes a "stone fortress" in New Mexico and the Herbert N. Straus Mansion in Manhattan, both of which are mentioned in the current round of allegations.
The Herbert N. Straus Mansion
New York, New York
Often referred to as one of the largest townhouses in Manhattan—possessing 21,000 square feet and seven stories, 45,000 square feet and eight stories, or 50,000 square feetand nine stories, depending on who's describing it and when—the stone mansion at 9 East 71st Street was built in 1933. It was designed by society architect Horace Trumbauerfor Herbert N. Straus, one of the heirs to the Macy's department store fortune, who died before it was completed.
It's been said that "entire 18th-century rooms were purchased to be shipped to New York and installed in the new mansion," and the Metropolitan Museum of Art does have a exhibit in its period rooms collection with fixtures from a French hotel acquired by Herbert's wife Therese in a timeline that would fit the mansion's construction. She donated them to the Met in 1943, a year before the mansion was converted into a convalescent home, after the Straus family donated it to the Roman Catholic Archbishopric of New York. These photos offer an interesting picture of the conversion process, which shows much of the interior fixtures stripped away.
In 1961, the mansion became home to the Birch Wathen School, which it remained until Leslie H. Wexner, the founding chairman of the Limited Inc., bought it in 1989 for $13.2M. Wexner hired architect Thierry Despont and interior designer John Stefanidis to help gut-renovate the 40-room home, showing it off in the December 1995 issue of Architectural Digest (sadly, the magazine's online archives don't go back that far). In 1996, the New York Times referred to the sumptuously decorated, expensively renovated pied-à-terre as the latest "puzzling" "status symbol of the ultra rich," when it reported that Wexner never spent more than a few months in the home. This was back when the scarcely used pied-à-terre was a smaller part of the Manhattan real estate makeup.
Back then, according to the Times,
Visitors described a bathroom reminiscent of James Bond movies: hidden beneath a stairway, lined with lead to provide shelter from attack and supplied with closed-circuit television screens and a telephone, both concealed in a cabinet beneath the sink. The house also has a heated sidewalk, a luxurious provision that explains why, while snow blankets the rest of the Eastern Seaboard, the Wexner house (and Bill Cosby's house across the street) remains opulently snow-free, much to the delight of neighborhood dogs.in 1995, Wexner turned the home over to Epstein, who was his protege and financial advisor (and much more, if you believe Gawker CEO Nick Denton's argument) because, on the face of it, his new wife "expressed greater enthusiasm for bringing up their two young children in Columbus, Ohio." Some say that Epstein paid just a dollar for the mansion, though it would seem to be well within his means at the time to pay full market value. Epstein then undertook his own renovation, not wanting "to live in another person's house." He is said to have spent $10M redoing the place. In 2007, when model Maximilia Cordero filed suit against Epstein for statutory rape and sexual assault (the suit was later dismissed), her lawyer included a description of what has by now become a legendary piece of puerile decor in chez Epstein: "[The] defendant gave plaintiff a tour of his mansion, showing her a huge crystal staircase with a huge crystal ball by the railing, ceiling chandeliers, a lounge room with red chairs, a statute [sic] of a dog with a statute [sic] of dog feces next to it" (emphasis ours).
Vicky Ward, in her recently elaborated upon 2003 profile of Epstein, very memorably captured the experience of touring the residence:
The entrance hall is decorated not with paintings but with row upon row of individually framed eyeballs; these, the owner tells people with relish, were imported from England, where they were made for injured soldiers. Next comes a marble foyer, which does have a painting, in the manner of Jean Dubuffet … but the host coyly refuses to tell visitors who painted it. In any case, guests are like pygmies next to the nearby twice-life-size sculpture of a naked African warrior. ...Tea is served in the "leather room," so called because of the cordovan-colored fabric on the walls. The chairs are covered in a leopard print, and on the wall hangs a huge, Oriental fantasy of a woman holding an opium pipe and caressing a snarling lionskin. Under her gaze, plates of finger sandwiches are delivered to Epstein and guests by the menservants in white gloves.
Upstairs, to the right of a spiral staircase, is the "office," an enormous gallery spanning the width of the house. Strangely, it holds no computer. Computers belong in the "computer room" (a smaller room at the back of the house), Epstein has been known to say. The office features a gilded desk (which Epstein tells people belonged to banker J. P. Morgan), 18th-century black lacquered Portuguese cabinets, and a nine-foot ebony Steinway "D" grand. On the desk, a paperback copy of the Marquis de Sade's The Misfortunes of Virtue was recently spotted. Covering the floor, Epstein has explained, "is the largest Persian rug you'll ever see in a private home—so big, it must have come from a mosque." Amid such splendor, much of which reflects the work of the French decorator Alberto Pinto, who has worked for Jacques Chirac and the royal families of Jordan and Saudi Arabia, there is one particularly startling oddity: a stuffed black poodle, standing atop the grand piano. "No decorator would ever tell you to do that," Epstein brags to visitors. "But I want people to think what it means to stuff a dog." People can't help but feel it's Epstein's way of saying that he always has the last word.
*Shudders.*
In 2001, the New York Post reported that Epstein and Prince Andrew celebrated the registered sex offender's release from jail with a party at the mansion. Virginia Roberts, one of the litigants in a Florida lawsuit against Epstein's prosecutors, alleges that the second time she was coerced into having sex with prince Andrew was at Epstein's Manhattan mansion in 2001.
Little Saint James
U.S. Virgin Islands
Panoramio
Epstein owns the entire 70-acre island of Little Saint James, which has its own Wikipedia page. (The U.S. Virgin islands is also where his money management firm is based.) The Daily Mirror recently flew a helicopter over what they dub the "isle of sin," and came back with some pretty good shots of what Epstein has built there: a colonnaded villa-style compound designed by luxury resort and hotel designer Edward Tuttle, with a large library, a cinema, surrounding cabanas, and a detached Japanese bathhouse. The island is where Epstein's alleged "sex slave" Virginia Roberts claimed he made her take part in orgies, including one where she was allegedly forced to have sex with Prince Andrew. According to the Mirror, the island could at one time be rented for £4K (~$6K) a night. Over the years, it's hosted the conferences held by the Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation, which have drawn the likes of Stephen Hawking. Roberts claims she met Bill Clinton once on the island, when he was there to dine with Epstein. Court papers claim that at other times, visitors included "prominent American politicians, powerful business executives, foreign presidents, a well known prime minister and other world leaders."
Oddly enough, providing the third instance of a weird non-animate animal on an Epstein property, in 2009, a blogger based on the island of St. John claimed that this imageshowed a "fake lawn ornament cow" that was seen in different locations on Epstein's island throughout the construction process.
Palm Beach Mansion
Palm Beach, Florida
Daily Mail
Epstein's Palm Beach mansion, once valued at $6.8M, was at the center of the undercover investigation that eventually led to Epstein pleading guilty to a single state charge of soliciting prostitution, becoming a registered sex offender, and serving 13 months out of an 18-month sentence. According to a rather lurid Daily Beast article published in 2010, a police search of the property turned up:
large, framed photos of nude young girls, and similar images... stashed in an armoire and on the computers seized at the house (although police found only bare cables where other computers had been). Some bathrooms were stocked with soap in the shape of sex organs, and various sex toys, such as a "twin torpedo" vibrator and creams and lubricants available at erotic specialty shops, were stowed near the massage tables set up in several rooms upstairs.
Zorro Ranch
Stanley, New Mexico
In 1993, Epstein purchased a 7,500-acre ranch in Stanley, New Mexico, from the late former New Mexico governor Bruce King. He named the ranch "Zorro," and proceeded to build a 26,700-square-foot hilltop mansion that was once said to be the largest home in the state, and has been described as a "stone fortress." A 1995 article in The New Mexicansaid that Epstein's initial plans for the residence described a main house that "will be similar to a Mexican hacienda, with an open-air entry into a courtyard with high-ceiling hallways, stone columns and a central fountain. The living room will measure about 2,100-square-feet, larger than the average house in Santa Fe County. The home will have an elevator, eight bathrooms, four fireplaces and three bedrooms." According to more recent report,Epstein recieved a county permit to build a small airplane hangar and air strip on the ranch.
Epstein has been reported as saying his New Mexico home "makes the town house look like a shack." According to records accessed on Property Shark, the structures on the property were last appraised in 2013 at $18,186,406.
In the recent court filing in Florida, Roberts names Zorro Ranch as one of the place she was sexually abused by Epstein, as well as forced to have sex with Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz. The Last time Epstein made news in New Mexico, it was when it was revealed that he attempted to contribute to the reelection campaign of former Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Gary King in 2006.

Not technically a piece of real estate, but also kind of a flying piece of real estate. Said to be the only reason Bill Clinton was ever friends with Epstein—that and his campaign donations to democrats—though many in the conservative media are surely speculating otherwise. In September of 2002, Clinton had a weeklong tour of South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, and Mozambique coming up to promote anti-AIDS efforts, and former Clinton advisor Doug Band encouraged Epstein to come along and provide the ride. Kevin Spacey and Chris Tucker were there, too, which sounds like it must have been kind of weird.

Increasing demand for food and beverage cans to strengthen Can Coatings Market
The global can coatings market size is estimated to be valued at USD 1.91 billion in 2017 and projected to grow at a CAGR of 3.4% to reach USD 2.27 billion by 2022. The global can coatings market is mainly driven by the increasing demand for food and beverage cans. Industrial growth in emerging countries such as India, China, and Southeast countries is also expected to fuel the demand for can coatings in general line can applications.
Can coatings are used to coat metal cans that are used to preserve food, beverages, inks, paints, lubricants, chemicals, etc. These coatings offer strong chemical and moisture resistance and avoids contamination of food by can’s metal. Epoxy, acrylic, are polyester are the commonly used can coatings. Oleoresins, vinyl, and dispersions of polyolefin-based can coatings are also used for applications in metal cans.
Taste and flavor maintenance along with avoidance of food contamination are some of the major factors that drive the demand of can coatings from the food & beverage application. The increase in production of paints, inks, and adhesives owing to the high demand for these products in automotive and building & construction industries is fueling the consumption of general line cans. This, in turn, drives the demand for can coatings to protect these cans from corrosion and maintain quality of the materials contained within.

Key companies manufacturing can coatings were majorly involved in expansions to strengthen their position in the market. It was the most preferred strategy adopted by the market players from 2013 to 2017. The can coatings market is growing at a moderate pace, and the increase in the number of expansions indicates that manufacturers are expanding their production facilities to establish a strong foothold in the can coatings market and cater the escalating demand for can coatings. New product launch was the second-most preferred growth strategy by manufacturers. Major market players are adopting this strategy to diversify their product portfolio by bringing out new, innovative products.
The major players in the can coatings market are PPG (US), Valspar (US), Akzo Nobel (Netherlands), ALTANA (Germany), KANSAI PAINT (Japan), Toyochem (Japan), National Paints Factories (Jordan), International Packaging Coatings (Germany), TIGER Coatings (Germany), and VPL Coatings (Germany). These companies are focusing on BPA-free can coatings to cater to the increasing demand for can coatings alternatives. Leading companies are focusing on establishing their foothold in emerging markets of APAC to maintain their leading position.
APAC is estimated to be fastest-growing can coatings market, in terms of value, during the forecast period. APAC is a manufacturing hub for chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, and personal care industries. This is expected to fuel the demand for can coatings in food cans, beverage cans, and general line cans applications. The can coatings producers in the region have to comply with the implemented regulations, and hence they are focusing on the development of BPA-free can coatings.

Jordan Fisher, who made his Broadway debut as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in Hamilton in 2016, is returning in the title role of “Dear Evan Hansen” for a 16-week engagement beginning January 28, 2020, succeeding Andrew Barth Feldman . “Evan Hansen is a 16-course meal for an actor. The complexity of this boy is akin to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.”
In its effort to sum up the decade culturally (33 Ways to Remember the 2010s), the New York Times gives a nod to the return of theater in the cultural conversation — not always directly.
Michael Paulson writes about “Hamilton” as a boon to a Broadway experiencing a cultural boom (“Even now, it sounds kind of implausible: a hip-hop musical about America’s first treasury secretary, peppered with rap battles over debt assumption and the Franco-American alliance. But when “Hamilton” opened at the decade’s midpoint, it was an instant sensation….”) Ben Brantley writes about the rise of immersive theater (“In a decade dominated by the illusions of virtual reality, theater put up a strong defense for the real thing. Around the globe, an ever-multiplying slew of immersive productions have been doing their damnedest to tempt audiences away from their screens and into the tactile here and now of three dimensions.”
Ironically Wesley Morris writes an essay entitled “Gay Culture Takes Center Stage” — center stage — illustrated with a picture of Billy Porter (who first became famous as the drag queen star of the Broadway musical Kinky Boots”)– and does not mention any of the many examples from theater.

Bright Room Called Day
Tony Kushner has taken the first play he wrote, which traced the rise of Nazism in Germany as a cri de coeur and a call to arms against what was happening to America during the Reagan era, and reworked it 34 years later for the Trump era – or, anyway, in the Trump era.
“A Bright Room Called Day” never really worked – as the playwright now acknowledges in the play itself. He has turned himself into a character. That meta-theatrical addition is one of the significant changes in a starry production at the Public Theater of this passionate and provocative play, but it in no way feels fixed. It is sprawling, awkwardly talky, and obvious — and now, also self-indulgent….Still, “A Bright Room Called Day” also offers a glimpse into Kushner’s high-wire act of intellectual theatricality that makes his later plays so thrilling.

Evelyn Castillo sued Ambassador Theater Group in federal court over its policy blocking guests from bringing outside food into its theaters. She complained that the practice discriminates against individuals with diabetes, and violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. She wanted to purchase a ticket to watch Head Over Heels at the Hudson Theater. The court sided with the theater, buying its argument that it has a record of accommodating people with disabilities, and implying they would have done so had she contacted them. I must say the coverage of this lawsuit has not been even-handed — e.g. this article in Forbes: “Broadway Theater Stands Up to Serial Suer And Wins” — missing the opportunity to assess the state of accessibility on Broadway…which has come a long way, and has a long way to go.

Hydroxypropyl Cellulose Market Poised to Garner Maximum Revenues by 2020
Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) is a cellulose derivative which possesses both water solubility as well as organic solubility. It is primarily used as a lubricant and topical ophthalmic protectant. Hydroxypropyl cellulose is a type of cellulose ether and is manufactured by the chemical modification of cellulose. Cellulose ethers are mainly used as thickeners, stabilizers and viscosity agents in several industries such as pharmaceuticals, food, personal care, construction, oil field chemicals, textiles, adhesives and paper. Hydroxypropyl Cellulose, in particular, is used in the manufacturing of adhesives, aerosols, binders, coatings, cosmetics, encapsulation, extrusion products, food, molding, paint removers, paper, pharmaceuticals, plastic foams, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) processing, printing inks and other miscellaneous applications. The growing demand from end-user industries such as plastics, personal care, chemicals, textiles and adhesives is expected to drive the
global hydroxypropyl cellulose market
in the years to come.
The growing demand for hydroxypropyl cellulose from several industries can be attributed to its highly useful properties. Hydroxypropyl cellulose exhibit characteristics such as thickener, thermoplastic, stabilizer, foaming aid, film-former, binder, water, alcohol and solvent soluble, oil, fat and alcohol barrier, low residue, glaze, heat sealable, emulsion stabilizer, pH insensitive, acid resistant and suspending agent. Owing to such numerous properties, hydroxypropyl cellulose is widely used in the production of diverse range of application products such as whipped toppings, electrical insulators, ceramic glazes, matrix boards, alcohol core wash compounds, edible food coatings, film coatings, paper and textile coatings, hair styling aids, perfumes and colognes, alcohol based preparations, shampoos, lotions, emulsion creams, profiles and filaments, films and sheets, confectionaries, fabricated food products, compression, injection and blow molding, tablet binder and coating, foamed sheet, tube and road, printing inks, cleaners and polishes. The rising demand from all such applications is anticipated to drive the global hydroxypropyl cellulose market in the next few years.
As far as regional markets are concerned, Asia Pacific is predicted to emerge as the fastest growing market for hydroxypropyl cellulose in the coming years. The main reason for this is the shifting of manufacturing base of FMCG and other consumer goods to China, India and South East Asian countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. In addition, the population in these countries is rising at a rapid rate which is resulting in an increase in the overall customer base. Also, due to the economic development of these countries, the disposable income and the purchase parity of the consumers is rising which is ultimately increasing the number of potential customers across these emerging nations.
Moreover, the countries such as Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Algeria, Sudan, Nigeria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Yemen, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Israel are rapidly coming up with robust manufacturing infrastructure. Furthermore, the U.S. and European economies are showing strong signs of recovery after a severe economic turmoil. All these factors are ultimately creating a positive outlook for the global economy. Subsequently, the demand for hydroxypropyl cellulose in diverse application areas is expected to rise in the near future and hence, the global hydroxypropyl cellulose market is predicted to record a strong growth in the next six years.

“Velvet Buzzsaw,” Netflix’s New Art-World Horror Flick, Is a Bloody Mess
Still from Velvet Buzzsaw, 2019. Image courtesy of Netflix.
Art-world insiders love talking about how the art world is too bizarre to be properly parodied, yet everyone keeps trying. The latest example in the genre is Netflix’s Velvet Buzzsaw, a goofily gothic horror tale grafted onto the vacuous backdrop of the Los Angeles art scene. For a movie with such a high corpse-count, this one is surprisingly bloodless—an inert slog that elicits neither chills nor laughter.
The film, directed by Dan Gilroy of Nightcrawler (2014) fame, opens with an aerial shot of the Miami Beach Convention Center, home to the flashy Art Basel fair. We’re introduced to hotshot art critic Morf Vandewalt (Jake Gyllenhaal) as he glides past irate, wannabe-VIPs at the door. He wanders the booths, the target of every dealer’s sycophantic admiration. It’s clear that Vandewalt is a rainmaker, a scribe whose positive review can catapult a young artist into the market’s stratosphere.
He spends a moment pondering a work entitled Hoboman, an animatronic mutant on crutches who hisses faux-profound inanities (“Have you ever felt invisible?”). Vandewalt is not impressed. “An iteration,” he scathes, disdainfully comparing the work to Jordan Wolfson’s (Female figure) (2014), “no courage.” This knowing namedrop is the first sign that Velvet Buzzsaw is in trouble. The art-world initiates who nod at these sorts of references will likely balk at the film’s cartoonish rendition of their industry; civilians outside the field will just be confused, frantically Googling to keep up.
Still from Velvet Buzzsaw, 2019. Image courtesy of Netflix.
These Art Basel scenes set the tone for what follows. We’re introduced to a supposedly revolutionary sculpture, Sphere, which looks like someone downsized Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate (2004) and put holes in it. It’s an interactive piece—visitors are encouraged to stick their hands in the orifices—and as its caretaker, Gretchen (Toni Collette), breathlessly explains to Vandewalt, “it’s about choice, desire, sex, the whole enchilada.” At this point, everyone is lazily tossing bons mots at each other, so world-weary that they could just die on the spot (spoiler alert!). “You can feel the winds of the apocalypse,” a frenzied gallerist whinnies. He’s got that right.
The scene in Miami is Bret Easton Ellis–lite: everyone’s superficialities rubbing against one another, lubricated by booze and the prospect of easy money. Vandewalt’s own vibe is pretension interrupted by tiny glints of human desperation, Patrick Bateman penning the occasional Artforum Critic’s Pick. Every gallerist is gunning for a trophy—one dealer compares it all to “a safari.” A young African-American artist new to the scene, Damrish (Daveed Diggs), is a particular target; he’s considering abandoning his rough-and-tumble, urban art collective in favor of the treats that the commercial side can afford him. On the other end of the spectrum is the blue-chip icon Piers (John Malkovich), a cantankerous, muscle-car-collecting wretch who’s meant to be some unholy hybrid of Jeff Koons, Richard Prince, and Damien Hirst.
After the fair, everyone treks back to Los Angeles—where it’s always sunny and every relationship is transactional. Vandewalt is inexplicably wealthy and well-connected; he’s less of a critic than an opportunistic leech, selling out while loudly proclaiming his own independence and integrity. (“I’m not your mouthpiece!” he bellows when confronted by a dealer complaining about the financial effects of one of his negative reviews.) The critic is cozy with mega-gallerist Rhodora Haze (Rene Russo), who, long ago, abandoned her scrappy punk roots in favor of making bank. She spends her days moving product while reminiscing about how raw and wild she used to be. “I invented do-it-yourself,” she boasts. On her wrist is a tattoo that reads “No Death / No Art / 1983.”
Still from Velvet Buzzsaw, 2019. Image courtesy of Netflix.
This is all heavy-handed and one-dimensional, but the introduction of the horror plotline at least holds out brief hope that the tone will shift. Haze’s colleague, Josephina (Zawe Ashton), discovers a trove of artworks in a recently deceased neighbor’s apartment. The artist, named Ventril Dease—the screenwriter was clearly on a Thomas Pynchon kick—had demanded that all of his works be destroyed upon his death. Josephina has other plans, of course. She sees marketable genius in the unremarkable canvases, which, frankly, hypnotize everyone who glances at them. “Visionary,” Vandewalt declares. “Mesmeric.” Josephina is practically hyperventilating: “Do you think there’s a market?” “Massive,” the critic pronounces.
If you haven’t guessed yet, these are no ordinary paintings—they’re haunted paintings. Collectors go apeshit over them after a blockbuster debut at Rhodora Haze’s gallery. Everyone is happily making money off the morally questionable ordeal…until people start dying, one by one. (Oh, and an expert analysis of Dease’s works uncovers the fact that they were painted using—wait for it—human blood.)
It’s here that Velvet Buzzsaw evolves into something akin to Final Destination: Art World Edition, but with less inventive dispatchings. A young gallerist ends up murdered by Dease’s vile spirit, hung by his own florid necktie. Gretchen sticks her arm into Sphere only to find that it’s become a high-end wood chipper. An art handler transporting some Dease pieces to a storage facility drives off the road, crashing into an eerie and abandoned gas station with an unsubtle name: Humble. Despite the carnage, Vandewalt remains above the fray, for a little while. At the funeral for one of Dease’s victims, he snarkily critiques the music and the color of the coffin. (“That’s my job,” he shrugs. “I’m selective.”) But he’s ultimately fated to die, as is practically every other cardboard character.
Still from Velvet Buzzsaw, 2019. Image courtesy of Netflix.
It’s almost not worth counting the missteps that Velvet Buzzsaw makes. There are the gross inaccuracies, for one—like the fact that Gretchen, who works for a made-up museum called LAMA, is at Art Basel in Miami Beach, inexplicably selling art on behalf of the institution. There are the crass and easy “Emperor’s New Clothes” sort of jokes—like when a slavering gallerist visits Piers’s studio and mistakes a few garbage bags on the floor for a new piece (“This is remarkable!”). There are the faux-artworks embedded throughout that are meant to convey how stupid contemporary art is in general: a video work that involves putting GoPro cameras on kindergarteners; an homage to a Bernini sculpture, covered in Froot-Loops. Velvet Buzzsaw drapes itself in borrowed authenticity simply by littering the script with things that actually exist (the Nam June Paik Award, The Broad, works in Piers’s studio that we’re supposed to recognize as tiny riffs on Koons’s Play-Doh sculptures). Practically the only right notes the film hits are sartorial ones; whoever curated the eyeglasses and shoes here knew what they were doing.
But more important, Velvet Buzzsaw comes off as a hateful and pointless parody rather than a pointed social satire. (For a stab in a better direction, check out Jonathan Parker’s 2009 film (Untitled)—or even “Bully” from season 12 of Law & Order: SVU.) Velvet Buzzsaw’s art world is an airless, disgusting place. It’s impossible not to sympathize with the vengeful spirit of Ventril Dease as it handily dispatches this parade of strivers, sociopaths, and grifters. Too bad the monstrous elements here are also hackneyed—too corny to spook, not campy enough to elevate this to American Horror Story’s level of broad, dumb fun.
As the credits roll, we see Piers, who has escaped all this bloodshed since he’s been hanging out at Haze’s beach house, getting his creative groove back. He’s lost in thought, giddily tracing big, Brice Marden spaghetti-squiggles in the sand. The grump is having a good time, far from the murderous inanity of the Los Angeles art world and its avenging ghosts. After nearly two hours of Velvet Buzzsaw, the viewer can’t help but envy him.
