Who do you think Vlatko has in mind for the next Olympic & 2023 WC roster vs. your own personal ideal rosters for those two events?
Before i do this it’s important to name the players that will retire/not called up anymore. Seeing as they need to leave first before new talent can replace them. Yes i’m a bit biassed in making this list but i still think it will be pretty accurate.
Players that i think will retire before 2023 (or just not get called up anymore NC). Carli*, Pinoe!, Becky!, Ashlyn, Ali, Kelley*, AD (NC), Lynn (NC, too many great young forwards coming in the next few years although she may get lucky if the vet forwards retire early), Morgan (NC, just not good enough).
Players that i think will maybe retire before 2023 or will retire right after the Olympics in 2024. Tobin! (hear me out, i know i have been saying i think she will retire after this Olympics but the break has been so good for her, i can see her go longer now), Christen!, Alex, Alyssa!.
So yeah, a lot of vets will retire in the next 3-4 years that means we have lot’s of space for new talent.
I think the major focus players for 2023 will be. Sam!, Lindsey, Crystal!, Julie*, Abby and Rose!. If they don’t retire before then, you can add Tobin!, Christen!, Alex and Alyssa! to this list as well.
Now onto the newish/current bubble names for 2023. Cat!, Sophia!, Alana!, Andi, Tierna (if she stays healthy), Jaelin (i think her getting her first cap says a lot about what Vlatko sees in her), Midge! (he seems to really like her), Mal (yes i know she is not it right now, but she is so young, i can’t see Vlatko giving up on her) and Jane/Bella (take your pick with those two). I think these are also the players that Vlatko will be preaching 2023 to since they are outsiders for a spot in this Olympics.
Now obviously some of these players will never really hit it big time since there are always a couple who will get injured or just not develop how we expect them too. I do think those are the names they are now looking at and calculate being ready to take a roster spot in 2023.
Players i really want to see in 2023 (even as bubble players) but we have not yet seen a lot of. Tziarra!, Jordan DiBiasi, Morgan Weaver, Ashley Sanchez, Bethany Balcer!.
! = i love you/i’m really excited about you rating * = fuck you rating No rating = i'm indifferent, which basically means i still kinda like you or at least i respect you as a quality player

She believes roster
Who do u think will be or should be cut for the roster.
Keepers. I think Campbell should be cut(it’s possible AD might thou just because she is yet to play any minutes)
Midfield is set.
Forwards. McDonald needs to go. Mediocre performance in the Olympic qualifiers, despite the 2 goals, she can’t cross for shit and couldn’t keep possession. My first and only pick to be cut from the forwards.
Defenders, this is a lot. I’m assuming Vlatko is still trying to solidify a great defense heading into the Olympics( if he drops one my money is on Casey Short). The defenders from Olympic qualifiers are safe( they did a fantastic job) Purce is looking safe she did train with them in Houston despite not making the roster and Davidson might stay just because she is young and he might be building off that.
If it is that he is trying to work out the defense in this tournament I’m thinking he should keep all the defenders and drop Campbell, DiBiasi and definitely McDonald.

NWSL 14/24
Tumblr media Tumblr media
