Rafiki: The Journal of the Association of Black Gays, Vol. 1 #1 (Fall 1976)

"Rafiki was a quarterly publication from the Association of Black Gays (ABG), a Los Angeles, California gay activist group that organized through education, political engagement, and grassroots activism to improve the conditions for Los Angeles’s Black gays and lesbians.

According to the journal, the title Rafiki was chosen because it means “friend” in Swahili and “that’s what [ABG] hope to be for you.” This first issue includes an article on the history of ABG and the fact that Black gays and lesbians have been largely excluded from the political, social, and economic advances of the gay community.

Included in this issue are articles such as “Homosexuality in Tribal Africa” and “Disco Discontent” (an open letter to the owner of Studio One, Scott Forbes), as well as poetry by Steven Corbin and Frances Andrews, and book reviews. It even contains an ad for the famous Catch One Club owned by Jewel Williams, which is still operating today!"

I Am Your Sister: Black Women Organizing Across Sexualities by Audre Lorde (Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press, 1985; from the Freedom Organizing Series)

"This small twelve-page publication derives from a speech Audre Lorde gave at the Women’s Center of Medgar Evers College in New York City regarding the exclusion of Lesbians in the feminist movement and how Lorde’s identity as both a Black woman and lesbian are inextricably linked.

Primarily, heterosexism and homophobia are major issues Lorde states are “two grave barriers to organizing among Black women.” Lorde ends the essay with the statement: “I am a Black Lesbian, and I am your sister.”

Her emphasis on the duality of this identity stems from a 1960s poster that said “He’s not black, he’s my brother!,” which Lorde states infuriated her because “it implied that the two were mutually exclusive.”

Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press was founded by Barbara Smith—another Black Lesbian feminist—and Audre Lorde in 1980 to create a publishing apparatus for women of color who at the time did not have control over how they were published except through the white-dominated outlets."

Flawless! The Life & Times of T.B.D.J. AKA Tiffani Inc. AKA Mrs. … (Manuscript) by Tiffany Bowerman (July 2007, A&E Publishers)

This autobiographical manuscript traces the life of Tiffany Bowerman aka Tiffany B.D. Johnson (b. 1959), who states that she “was the first African-American Transsexual to have state issued birth certificate reissued [1990]… was the first to legally marry three different active duty military men… [and] first… to found their own Christian Denomination… The Agape-Ecumenical Christian Denomination.”

Further, she states “I have tried to put together something striking and original[,] a journey from childhood to self aware adult. A life that was and is with all regrets included.”

This manuscript is a preliminary copy of a rough draft, and contains various memoirs, photographs, legal documents, and ephemera.

Out in Black and White: A Directory of Publications By, About, For People of Afrikan Descent In-The-Life by the Broward County Library Outreach Services Department Exhibit/Programming Services with direction by Eric Jon Rawlins (January, 1996)

Out in Black and White is a directory of various serial publications (magazines, newsletters, journals, etc.) throughout the United States that are focused on the Black LGBTQ experience. According to the directory, “[t]his project was inspired by the atmosphere of strength, oneness and productivity created by the Million Man March [on October 16,] 1995.”

The Million Man March was a political demonstration that took place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. with the purpose of encouraging involvement in the improvement of the conditions of African Americans. Eric Jon Rawlins was a Broward County, Florida librarian who at one time was also the second vice president of the NAACP Fort Lauderdale branch in the late 1980s.

Currently, the Eric Jon Rawlins Collection consisting of personal and professional papers, as well as his 6,000 vinyl record album collection, are housed at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center Special Collections in Broward County, FL.

Okay, every time I watch RAW/Smackdown I start wondering who's a valet and who's a dominant out of the new(er) guys and who's paired up and who's single... Indulge my curiosity, pleeeease? 😄

This is pretty much my default setting LOL - I exclusively judge wrestlers based on how they fit in the valetverse, so will I indulge? Absolutely!!!

Raw Roster:

(Let's start with the easy ones)

Cody Rhodes (valet) is still married to Randy Orton (dominant) but they've since divorced from Ted DiBiase Jnr. (They also have a kid in the valetverse now)

CM Punk (valet) is still married to The Undertaker (dominant) and they have Frankie Calaway.

Seth Rollins (valet) is still married to Roman (dominant) and Jon Moxley (valet) but their marriage is a bit shaky after the events at Wrestlemania (which I will go into in future fics). No kids.

The Hounds Of Justice : The Story of The Shield

June 2, 2014 will always be a day that I will never forget as a wrestling fan. This is one thing that I will never get over as a fan. My heart was shattered into a million pieces when an event that I never thought would happen. I am talking about the break up of The Shield. I am sure that we all remember where we were the night it happened.

The Shield was a popular faction in WWE consisting of Dean Ambrose ( now Jon Moxley in AEW ) , Roman Reigns , and Seth Rollins. The three Superstars made their main roster debut on November 18, 2012 at the Survivor Series Pay-Per-View. Reigns, Rollins, and Ambrose were originally supposed to be bodyguards for CM Punk, however , that changed and all three of them became huge main event names. They became dominant during six man tag team matches , having an undefeated streak on WWE Programming from December 2012- May 2013 , when they scored the biggest win of their careers , at Wrestlemania 29. Reigns and Rollins went on the win the Tag Team Championships while Ambrose went on to win the United States Championship at Extreme Rules the same year. Ambrose made history when he held the US Championship for a year in May 2014. Soon, The Hounds of Justice would face trouble.

In June of 2014 ,The Shield had a feud with Evolution, a faction consisting of Triple H , Randy Orton , Ric Flair , and Batista. On the June 2 , 2014 episode of Monday Night RAW , Triple H escorted Randy Orton to ring for a match and cut a promo on The Shield. Triple H stated that there was always a ‘ Plan B ’ for himself and Randy Orton , with Batista quitting WWE the same night to focus on his acting career. Thus, Rollins betrayed Reigns and Ambrose by hitting both of them with a style chair and aligning with Orton and Triple H , becoming the newest member of Evolution and The Authority. Reigns and Ambrose would be a tag team until June 16, 2014. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins would feud until 2015. During Payback, the Hounds of Justice would have a small reunion when they Powerbombed Randy Orton through the announce table. In 2016 , the three would have a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship, in which , Ambrose, who was the champion , would retain. The same year, they would be on opposing sides on Survivor Series with Reigns and Rollins representing Team RAW while Ambrose represented Team Smackdown Live. Thus, this lead to another small reunion.

The Shield reunited one more time in 2019 for a match against Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, and Baron Corbin at the Fastline Pay Per View. This would be the last time Reigns , Rollins , and Ambrose would share a ring together as Ambrose’s contract with WWE was ending. Dean Ambrose left WWE the same year and made his debut at All Elite Wrestling ( AEW ) as Jon Moxley and become a member of The Blackpool Combat Club. He has won the AEW World Championship three times. Seth Rollins would go on to have the Monday Night Messiah gimmick and win the Inaugural WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2023 . He is a five time WWE Champion. Roman Reigns went on to become The Tribal Chief and have a record setting Undisputed WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign of 1,316 days before being defeated by Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania 40. Nevertheless, Reigns also got his revenge on Rollins the same night by hitting him in the back with a chair. Seth Rollins stated that the next time fans will see The Shield reunite will be at their WWE Hall of Fame Induction.

My Final Thoughts:

The Shield will forever be a legendary faction in WWE and in Professional Wrestling. They were what made WWE Programming during that time period. Knowing that they also had successful solo careers makes me feel like they will always be remembered individually as well. I’ll confess that I was a major Roman Reigns girl. I hope that fans can remember them for what they did as a group and individually. When they broke up , I was raging. What about you? How did you feel when The Shield broke up? MAJOR LEAGUE- 1989 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fun 80s sports movie about a hopeless baseball team on a decades long losing streak. The new owner assembles a team of has beens and bozos so bad she expects them to come in last place, which will allow her to move the team to another city. When the team discovers her plan they rally around each other and start playing like superstars, taking them to the top.

Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes, Corbin Benson and Rene Russo star.

Very good baseball movie. Good characters and dynamics between the team. Great underdog story and upbeat ending. Its strange hearing someone other than Jon Moxley come out to Wild Thing but i got used to it.

been thinking. contemplating a tma post 200 crossover with dames and dragons where the lads end up in Avelis and proceed to be very confused fun details:

Jon meets Corbin and they’re both like “oh? gay guy with eye/knowledge themes?” Corbin is either in awe or hates him, Jon thinks all of them are annoying kids but he likes Corbin the least

Corbin offers Martin crow tea and Jon Knows what it’s gonna be but lets him say yes because he wants to see how Martin reacts

Jon occasionally mentions some random detail they know they didn’t tell him

Jon attempts to smite someone and discovers to his dismay that his power has become reliant on the force of knowledge and he’s not quite sure how to use it anymore

the lads meet the Witness and promptly freak tf out because this is like the Eye and Annabelle combined

the seeker looks exactly like real sasha, mickey looks weirdly like a younger version of martin, and mr wentel could be elias’ dad, which is extremely unsettling to both of them

Jon keeps taking statements but they’re less about the fear

Martin at some point just sits down and has a long chat with every individual guardian where they talk about feeling isolated and he’s like yep. don’t fall into the lonely and they’re like what the fuck is that

Martin and Jon are both close enough to gods to have little domains; Martin’s is a quiet little mountain library and Jon’s is an archive that he eventually figures out can let him access Martin’s domain and build doors to other domains

Fran absolutely hates Jon and Martin and she could not tell you why

Slake is scared of Jon and tries to hide it; Jon is freaked out by their love of insects and caves and other such things he considers buried/corruption. he more than once attempts to kill Darius

Martin immediately pegs Slake as a kindred spirit but he does not like caves or bugs anymore (✨trauma!✨) so it’s hard for him to talk to them about. anything

maeri likes having other powerful things around but Jons ominous activity scares her and Martin scares her more, though she’s not sure why

pavilla yanks Corbin over in a dream at some point and is like “dude. tell me about the ceaseless watchers special little boy right now” and Corbin is absolutely delighted by this nickname

the lads learn about the forces and immediately are like oh. yep. fear gods and they are One Hundred Percent on board with killing them

they are also comparing gods to avatars but they’re not sure what to do with demigods. they are super on board with killing dawson because they see him as an explicitly evil salesa

idk I’m just having fun with this entire concept. also I desperately want to write jon attempting to smite a god
