John looked into the living room once more, checking that the small boy was still asleep on the couch. Wes had told him that he didn't need to look so often, but John suspected that any child who could navigate a city on his own could get into a lot of trouble when left to his own devices.

Sure enough, this time the couch was empty.

Trying not to panic, John took a deep breath. He probably hadn't actually left the house, he just needed to check from top to bottom, starting in the attic. But his breath got heavier the more rooms he checked that he couldn't find the boy in, until finally he was in the kitchen, left with the possibility that Henry might just have tried going home.

Then he glanced out the window.

Wes was sat in his chair outside, the boy resting his arms on the armrest, listening to something intently. Oh, Wes was reading him a book from the library... but still, he could have mentioned that Henry was awake...

He pushed the door open, shouting out a: "And you couldn't tell me you were doing this!" which made both of them jump.

Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? - Sandy was a preteen sidekick to his adoptive father. Most stunts were encouraged. But for the more dangerous stuff, I guess whichever one was there. 

Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? - When Sandy was in school, Olga and Mr. Humphries still worked for his parents, so them. But if they were to adopt another child, John simply because John cooks more often.

Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? - N/A

Cooking: 

Who does the most cooking? - in the 40’s Olga was the main cook in their house but after she retired John took over.

Who is the most picky in their food choice? - Neither

Who does the grocery shopping? - Both

How often do they bake desserts? - 

Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? - 

Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? - Wes because John cooks more often normally so he likes to take over and cook for his husband for the occasion.

Who is more likely to suggest going out? - 

Who is more likely to burn the house down accidently while cooking? - Neither, but Wes is less skilled than John in the kitchen so if it were to happen it was probably when Wes was trying to teach himself how to cook

Who cleans up after the pets? - The only pets they have are John’s spiders so I guess John

Who takes the longer showers/baths? - John, but they do shower/bathe together relatively often so there’s that.

Who takes the dog out for a walk? - If they had a dog, idk Wes maybe. More likely Sandy would be the one walking the dog.

How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays? - Major holidays only. And they keep it relatively simple, but when Sandy was a kid they used to do more. 

What are their goals for the relationship? - They just wanna spend the rest of their lives together with mutual love, respect, and support.

Imagine stepping in to help John Winchester with the boys, but knowing that you’re always second best.

You sat at the window, watching the rain fall outside. The boys had gone out for a hunt, leaving just yourself and John. Normally that would make you a very happy hunter, since you and John had a secret relationship going on right under their noses. Dean was so distracted with Sam, and Sam with Dean, that they were utterly clueless to it. But this time was different. You wished you were in a room filled with people rather than alone with John.

“There’s never going to be a time that you’re going to love me as much as her, is there?” You asked, folding your arms around yourself. John said nothing, but continued to sulk on the other end of the room. Talking through an intercom might even be more personal than this.

“She’s the mother of my children, y/n. You can’t understand that-” John said after a heavy five minute pause.

“I can’t understand?” You asked, turning to face him rather than the half-empty parking lot of the motel you pulled into. “I know that she is! But she’s also dead, John. And I might not have known Mary but she wouldn’t want you to mope like this. She would have wanted you to move on!”

“I tried!” He said, angrily, kicking at one of the beds. You were used to these outbursts of violence. I hardly fazed you.

“But I’m second to a ghost.” You said, solemnly. “And I don’t deserve that.”

“No, you really don’t,” John agreed. “Just leave me. Go be with someone better.”

“Fuck that noise, John. I’m not going to give you an excuse to sink deeper into your self-pity pit.” You walked up to the man, and grabbed hold of his broad shoulders so he would have to face you. “You’re going to wake up and treat me better, or I swear to God, I’ll tell the boys everything.”

John sighed, looking into your eyes. He had remnants of tears in his own. “Okay,” He nodded. “Okay.”
