Roasted Marshmallows

John rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand as he poured freshly made hot chocolate into a mug. The fragrance had awakened something in him.

It was quarter to midnight, and Sherlock, John, and Mariana had just got to the end of a case.

They had got back from Scotland Yard about twenty minutes ago after the conclusion of the case.

Sherlock and Mariana had fallen asleep on the sofa beside the fireplace in the sitting room.

Mariana had laid her head on Sherlock's chest with Sherlock's arm around her shoulders.

John smiled to himself at that endearing sight.

Ever since the three of them got into a relationship together, they decided to convert most of 221 A as a full fledged office where the clients would come to talk about their cases and other problems. Only one room was spared just in case.

Mariana would spend most of her time with Sherlock and John at 221 B.

John grabbed a box of marshmallows from a shelf to roast a couple of them as a midnight snack. He picked up his steaming mug and decided to go to the sitting room to roast the marshmallows over the fireplace.

John sat down on the floor in front of the fire and held up the skewer holding three marshmallows over it.

He took a long sip of his drink in the meantime. The sweetness and velvety texture complemented each other on his tongue deliciously. The warmth of the liquid was only adding to the taste.

The marshmallows were ready, so he added them to his mug.

He took another sip and closed his eyes. Gunshot sounds and the screams of his bleeding colleagues were ringing in his ear.

John snapped open his eyes and shook his head vigorously. He looked over his shoulder at Sherlock and Mariana, who were still asleep.

Times had changed drastically, and so had the significance of a mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows for John.

He still remembered the times he would stay up late at night, sipping a cup of hot drink with his mates in the army. Allowing himself to break the rules of their fixed sleeping schedules on rare occasions.

Before, a mug of hot chocolate meant just a fraction of comfort in the midst of his otherwise chaotic and hectic life.

Now, he was allowed to drink hot chocolate as often as he liked. The mug in his hands now represented a total sense of comfort and satisfaction minus the guilt that would follow through later on when he was still in the army.

Much like the newfound satisfaction he got out of his relationship with Sherlock and Mariana.

He would not trade that with anything in the world. Absolutely nothing.

Finishing his drink, John let out a deep sigh and placed his mug on the coffee table.

John got up and walked over to Sherlock and Mariana. He gently patted on both of their shoulders to wake them up. "Let's go to bed," he said in a voice above a whisper.

No response from either of them.

John was shaking Sherlock by his shoulder now. "Hey, Sherlock. Sherlock, wake up. You both can't be sleeping on the sofa for the whole night. Get up!"

Sherlock stirred a bit and blinked. "Mm, no." His eyes were still closed.

"Oh, come on!" John grabbed Sherlock's other arm to pull him up to his feet.

"Five more minutes," said Mariana in a slurry voice. Her eyes were still closed too.

Mariana moved away from Sherlock a little to make room for one more person between them. Sherlock moved his arm - which was around Mariana's shoulder moments ago - and pulled John down on the sofa to make him join them.

John sat down with a smile and placed each of his arms around Sherlock and Mariana's shoulders. They both noticeably relaxed in his arms as they continued to sleep.

"Don't complain about back aches tomorrow, then," John said in a low voice with amusement.

Neither of them moved an inch. On the contrary, Sherlock placed his head on John's shoulder, and Mariana nuzzled up to John from his other side.

John smiled even more and sat back on the sofa to relax for a while. It was like having a second mug of nicely made hot chocolate. Swimming in it, even.

It didn't take him long to doze off on the sofa himself.

God, John and Sherlock from Sherlock & Con. are such an old married couple. They know each other for at max a couple of months and they pull this off on ep 12

John: "You are so cleaver, honestly"

Sherlock, flustered: "Oh...Stop"

John: "No, seriously"

Sherlock: "Stop it now, Watson. You flatter me. What about you with that tackle? Positively brutish!"

John, flustered too: "Well I was just... right in my stride and bang! Really connected- down he went"

Sherlock: "It was spectacular!"

John: "Aw thanks mate, it hurt my shoulder tho"

Sherlock: "You should put ice on that"

John: " Nah nah, it's ok"

Sherlock: "You'll regret it if you don't~"

John: "nahnahnah I'm fine honestly"

Sherlock, not convinced: "hm sure"

Guy that John just tackled to the ground: "Would you two shut up?"

POV you're a client knocking at the door of 221 Baker street at 4am in the morning.

Alright, the latest episode has already created controversy, and I really don't mean to add to it, but come on everyone. It wasn't that bad.

John and Mariana sharing a bedroom is fine. It needs to be understood that Mariana is a new, developing character. We are not familiar with her the way we've been familiar for years with Sherlock and John. I say we give her a chance, yeah? I'm glad that the show didn't just introduce her and then keep her as a token female character. And would that not have been worse? Instead they actually make use of her. They are taking the time to put her in the limelight for once. So we can get to see how important she is to Sherlock and John, and also who she is beyond the manager of Sherlock & Co.

The episode had some great moments. Some of the best so far. Sherlock finally calling him John. And John's brain just short circuiting for a little bit. John and Sherlock laughing together. Their conversation was so heartfelt. I can't stress enough how important it is to me that we finally have an adaptation where Sherlock isn't reduced to a cold, calculating machine. Sherlock cares and he cares deeply. It made me so emotional. And Hunter narrating the story of the Gloria Scott. That's about as close to the ACD canon as it gets, folks. There's nothing that says ACD like the perpetrator narrating his own sad (or not so sad) story. The orchids, of course, as others have pointed out. The episode beginning and ending with unremarkable domestic shopping scenes, that are almost exactly the same, but feel different.

The only issue I have is that I think the ending was a little bit abrupt. What happened to Lionel? Did Hunter actually leave? What about Victor? Is he okay? Did he go see his dad after he found out, did he confront him with the truth? Too many questions unanswered.
