Hy Brasil | The Lost Legendary Island of Ireland
Hy-Brasil was an island which appeared on ancient maps as early as 1325 and into the 1800s. On most maps, it was located roughly 321km (200 miles) off the west coast of Ireland in the North Atlantic Ocean. Its name is derived from Old Irish hy, a variation of í, meaning ‘island’, and brasil, from the root word bres, meaning ‘beautiful/great/mighty’. It has also been explained as coming from Uí…

New Scotland Yard: Prove It (2.5, LWT, 1972)
"Tell me about the wounded man, Slee."
"Yes, well, local talent. He owns three car lots and a laundrette. He's done quite well for himself, considering."
"Considering what?"
"He started life shooting other people's knees off."
"That's a grammar school education for you."
"Mmm. PTI in the army, jacked it in and sold his muscle to the highest bidder."
"Form?"
"Usual: GBH, malicious wounding with a weapon, assault occasioning bodily harm, demanding with menaces. Clean for the last four years."
"Now a respectable businessman."
"Scum. Handmade suits, two daughters at the local convent, but still scum."
#new scotland yard#prove it#1972#lwt#classic tv#peter moffatt#richard harris#john woodvine#john carlisle#anthony sagar#richard borthwick#ray lonnen#ralph watson#roy purcell#june watson#sally nesbitt#brian hayes#terence sewards#malcolm gerard#gangsters! a gangland 'disagreement' sees one man clinging to life and our intrepid boys move in to sort it all out. they're off their own#patch this week‚ for reasons which are never explained‚ and much is made of the local coppers being uncomfortable around high ranking#types. one of those locals is played by Anthony Sagar‚ who's inexplicably doing a welsh accent (tho tbf not a bad one). this must have been#one of his final jobs‚ he died in January of '73. also a delight is Sandbagger 1 himself‚ Mr Ray Lonnen‚ as a wide boy Mr Big#looking to expand. Harris' script is wittier than many eps of NSY and contains a lot of his trademark sly dialogue (including multiple#instances of the viewer hearing only one side of a phone call and being left to wonder what exactly is being joked about..). this is the#second episode in a row to end with the central crime not actually wrapped up‚ tho in this case it's hinted that Kingdom has set#certain things in motion which will hopefully provoke an arrestable response. he and Carlisle have another icy show down about methods and#practises‚ and Carlisle gets in a truly venomous line or two which should surely have seen him reprimanded (if they had anything like a#realistic working relationship). not a bad ep‚ not a great one either‚ a little too straight cop show in shape to be truly intriguing

EuroTrip | Part 35 | Tricky Times And Board Shenanigans
#FM24 #EuroTrip Part 35: Tricky Times And Board Shenanigans. Trebor Mahtal swaps surprise success in Wales for Hungary with @PuskasAENG. However, he faces his toughest time as a manager and, despite a board takeover, it does not end well! Read here:
Trebor Mahtal stretched his stunning record of consecutive titles to eight seasons by leading semi-professional Colwyn Bay to a surprise maiden success in Wales. And, as per usual, he resigned from his role in May 2054. A few weeks out of work allowed the now 70-year-old to earn a bit more cash on pundit duties at the World Cup in France. He watched the joint biggest winning margin in…

'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' – the odyssey begins on Prime Video and Max
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), the first film in Peter Jackson’s trilogy of films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel, isn’t a “prequel” to The Lord of the Rings in the strictest sense of the term. Tolkien wrote “The Hobbit” long before even contemplating his epic trilogy, and the book is a modest, simple fantasy adventure compared to the sweep and scale of the subsequent books. But…

The Scottish actor Gerard Kelly was born on May 27th 1959 in Glasgow.
Given the name Paul at birth, the actor and comedian was born and brought up in Cranhill, the son of a fish and chip shop owner, Kelly was destined for the stage from the time a teacher suggested "we have an actor amongst us".
He first came to public attention in 1978 on the BBC television comedy Scotch and Wry starring Rikki Fulton and went on to play Jack Milroy opposite Tony Roper's Fulton in Rikki and Me in 2006, which he also directed.
In 1992, Gerard was slashed in an unprovoked attack as he entered his Clydeside apartment, leaving him with a permanent face scar. This caused him to leave Glasgow for London for a time.
In 1994 he played Felix Ungar in a Scottish touring production of The Odd Couple, relocated to modern-day Glasgow, alongside Craig Ferguson as Oscar Madison.
Known for his versatility, Kelly also starred in the pilot of the tough Glasgow detective series Taggart, in Rab C. Nesbitt, Juliet Bravo,City Lights and Extras, together with soaps, Eastenders and Brookside.
Films he starred in were Blind Date, with Kirsty Alley and Ken Loach's Ae Fond Kiss.
On stage he found success in John Byrne's The Slab Boys and was praised for his role in Much Ado About Nothing in London's West End he was also a regular in pantomime at Glasgow's King's Theatre.
Kelly collapsed at his home in London and died in a nearby hospital some days later. His funeral was held at St Aloysius' Church in Glasgow with the cortege passing the King's Theatre, where he was due to perform at the time of his death, on its way to a committal at Daldowie Crematorium, he will always be fondly remembered.
