Congrats to the ultimate winner of the Hot & Vintage Movie Men Tournament, Mr. Toshiro Mifune! May he live happily and well where the sun always shines, enjoying the glories of a battle hard fought.
A loving farewell to all of our previous contestants, who are now banished to the shadow realm and all its dark joys and whispered horrors—I hear there's a picnic on the village green today. If you want to remember the fallen heroes, you can find them all beneath the cut.
What happens next? I'll be taking a break of two weeks to rest from this and prep for the Hot & Vintage Ladies Tournament. I'll still be around but only minimally, posting a few last odes to the hot men before transitioning into a little early ladies content, just like I did with this last tournament. The submission form for the Hot & Vintage Ladies tournament will remain up for one more week (closing February 21st), so get your submissions in for that asap! Once the form closes, there will be one more week of break. The first round of the Hot & Vintage Ladies Tournament will be posted on February 29th, as Leap Year Day seems like a fitting allusion to leaping into these ladies' arms.
Thanks for being here! Enjoy the two weeks off, and send me some great propaganda.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Scott McKenzie, the singer-songwriter best known for his association with John Phillips and the 1967 Summer of Love anthem “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair),” the sonic tract that called 1000s of young people to California.
Phillips (who played on the track with The Wrecking Crew) wrote the song to appease authorities concerned that hippies would overrun the Bay Area for the Monterey Pop Festival. Peace and love prevailed. The song has been used in several films and was a theme for the Prague Spring Czech uprising in 1968. That same year, McKenzie’s next Top 40 hit “Like an Old Time Movie” (also written and played by Phillips) segued with McKenzie writing “What About Me” for Anne Murray (her first hit single).
Like many artists circa 1960, McKenzie morphed out of doo-wop and became a folkie, joining the New York folk scene that beget The Mamas & The Papas. Phillips initially invited McKenzie to join that group but he declined, saying he didn’t want “the pressure.” Years later McKenzie joined a road version of The Mamas & The Papas in 1986. Concurrently, the Phillips-McKenzie team joined Mike Love and Terry Melcher to create the huge Beach Boys hit “Kokomo.”
The evergreen “San Francisco” remains McKenzie’s best-known work (he passed from Guillain-Barre syndrome in 2010). Periodically I dabbled with the song, dirty demo-ing a grunge-y Iggy Pop-like update: https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/track/san-francisco-be-sure-to-wear-flowers-in-your-hair-demo-remastered-2020

Bram Stoker’s horror classic gets a riotous makeover in this lightning-fast comedic reimagining that celebrates goth, camp, sexuality, and the magic of live theatre. This 90-minute, gender-bending, quick-change romp features a pansexual GenZ Count Dracula in the midst of an existential crisis. When he sets his sights on the brilliant young earth scientist Lucy Westfeldt, he meets his match for the first time – as well as a slew of other colorful characters including vampire hunter Jean Van Helsing, insect connoisseur Percy Renfield and behavioral psychiatrist Wallace Westfeldt, whose British country estate doubles as a free-range mental asylum. With a cast of brilliant quick take comedians, this Dracula will make you scream… with laughter.

“In re-reading Dracula, we were surprised and intrigued by the boldness with which Stoker, a closeted gay man in Victorian England, plays with sexuality and gender norms,” says director/co-writer Gordon Greenberg. Co-writer Steve Rosen adds “we wanted to celebrate him and, at the same time, send up his moody, broody melodrama in the spirit of some of our comedic heroes like Charles Ludlam, Monty Python and Mel Brooks.” In regards to the New World Stages production, Greenberg continues, “We are so fortunate to have assembled an extraordinary company of top-notch comedic actors whose fearlessness and hilarity make the whole experience feel like a party. We hope our Dracula gives audiences of all ages the chance to forget about their troubles and just laugh their heads off for a while.”

Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors was commissioned and originally produced by Maltz Jupiter Theatre (Andrew Kato, Producing Artistic Director/Chief Executive) in 2019. In 2020, it was adapted as a radio play for The Broadway Podcast Network with an all-star cast including Annaleigh Ashford, Laura Benanti, Alex Brightman, James Monroe Iglehart, Richard Kind, Rob McClure, Ashley Park, Christopher Sieber, and John Stamos. Productions followed at Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany and Segal Centre for Performing Arts in Montreal. A hit with critics and audiences alike, Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors has been praised by the Albany Times Union as “a raucous comedy, done with impeccable adroitness …stuffed with sight gags, wordplay and lightning-fast costume changes,” and described as “a delicious comedic romp” by Berkshire Edge. McGill Daily calls the play “a sexy retelling of the classic 1897 novel that leans into contemporary gender roles with an unprecedented comedic angle. … not to be missed.” BroadwayWorld calls it a “lightning-fast, laugh-out-loud comedy.”

can I ask where on the timeline for tvd this takes place? and mwms you'd like to see as far as canons and fcs go?
so this is heavily au and doesn't follow any particular season per se , i would say if we had to put a label on it it'd be close to beginning season one of tvd / tru blood vibes but with different elements of both combined to one. so next gen / some of to would not be included in this particular timeline.
as far as our most wanted men ? i know our katherine is itching for a damon. i personally would love to see elijah as an authority member of alv , sam merlotte , matt donvan would be excellent , and give elena her lil bro jeremy. hes not listed but also there's been some talk of kai parker ? we'd love him.
now faces ? tasty q - rege jean page , chris wood , jeffrey dean morgan , charles melton , gavin leatherwood , casey deidrick , gabriel basso , john boyega , manny montana , dev patel , lakeith stanfield , herman tømmeraas , avan jogia , gong yoo , aaron pierre , paul wesley , cody christian , hugh dancy , yokohama ryusei , joe keery , david harbour , kellan lutz , billy burke , michael evans behling , josh heuston , nicholas alexander chavez , daniel sharmen , oktay cubuk , chase stokes , drew starkey , & jordan bolger.

Nominated but thrown out of the competition:
Harrison Ford (not really working in movies in the 1910s-1960s, so outside the scope of this bracket)
Leonard Nimoy (not a movie leading man but a television dude)
Welcome to the HOT AND VINTAGE MOVIE STARS bracket! we are currently collecting submissions for the HOTTEST and VINTAGEST male movie stars from 1910-1970. (we will do the ladies next.) if you have a hot vintage man in mind, please fill out the submission sheet above or send us an ask with the appropriate propaganda!
To be counted in the bracket, your submission must (1) be a male movie star from classical Hollywood cinema, i.e. from the 1910s through the late 1960s, and (2) be considered to have been leading man material, i.e. hot, sexy, and on the marquee in big bright lights. In consideration of the Hollywood studio system's racist and narrow-minded casting policies, submissions of supporting actors who did not achieve leading man status in their time but clearly had the charisma and charm to have thrived if they'd been given the chance are welcome. If you're submitting someone not particularly well known, please link a picture where we can see your nominee at his hottest.
Feel free to submit as many times as you like, but one submission per form please. If you have a photo of your hot vintage man in his "best" era (several of these stars had multi-decade careers), please include a link so I don't show a pic of them at their crustiest and worst
This submissions page closes 12/14/2023, and the bracket should be up by 12/16/2023 :)

Another Peaky Blinders Rant
Warnings: it's longish
Does anyone else find it weird that when Jack Rowan got another role they killed off Bonnie, but when Jordan Bolger got another role they just replaced him? I don't want Isaiah dead or anything like that, but it just really stands out to me.
A part of me wants to believe that that means they actually have plans for Isaiah in s6 or s7, but another part of me thinks that they just couldn't be bothered to make a big deal out of his death, like they (half ass) did with Bonnie when he was killed.
If they killed Isaiah off, they'd have to make Jeremiah want vengeance (even though they've never/barely interacted on screen and Jeremiah is barely on the show anyways) and try and make it look like everyone is grieving because they all knew him (and again, barely interacted with him).
Bonnie was shown to have a close relationship with his dad, Isaiah is seen having a good relationship with several people (Finn, Michael, John), but there's nothing actually meaningful in any of it. We don't know his age, if he's definitely an only child, what happened to his mum, what he thinks of Michael in s5, anything really. He was literally introduced to the show so a young person could show Michael the attractive aspects of The Life™ (the girls, the smoking, the drinking, the fights, the perks of everyone knowing who he is) and then SK had no idea what to do with him, so he gave him a gun and put him in the background of every scene involving the illegal side of the business.
Isaiah was literally invented for a small role in S2 and then became so unimportant that they couldn't even bother to kill him off, in case anything took attention away from Tommy Shelby and his plans.
And this isn't hate against Daryl McCormack. I liked him enough, even if I think he seemed like he was playing a different character altogether. He was a little more serious than Jordan's cheeky portrayal of the character, which is what most people focus on when they write about Isaiah, so I think he would've made a great older brother character if he had been introduced in an earlier season. (an OC I want to add into my writing at some point).
#Peaky Blinders#Isaiah Jesus#Bonnie Gold#Jeremiah Jesus#Finn Shelby#Michael Gray#John Shelby#Aberama Gold#Jordan Bolger#Daryl McCormack#Jack Rowan#Benjamin Zephaniah#Harry Kirton#Finn Cole#Joe Cole#Aidan Gillen#I just hate that they'll never do anything with his character#Or even tell us more about him#Seriously though how old is he???#He's gotta be somewhere between Michael and Finn right?
