On this date in 1977, Marvel released John Carter, Warlord of Mars #1 by Marv Wolfman, Gil Kane and Dave Cockrum. The comic brought readers to Barsoom and introduced them to the other most famous creation of Edgar Rice Burroughs. The title lasted for 28 issues (plus a trio of annuals), and was one of many comics that featured the character from a variety of publishers over the years.
