What's funny about enemies to lovers romcom is the best friend walking in the bedroom after they do the deed like they're asleep and cuddled up under the covers. Then they all shriek in surprise and then the best friend goes "DIDN'T YALL JUST TRY TO KILL EACH OTHER YESTERDAY?!"

Day 27: Picky

Joe x Cherry | Nim's Lovely Tickletober 

Word Count: 700

"Needs more salt."

"The texture is odd."

"Too bland."

"...What did you put in this?"

Joe's eye twitched as he listened to all of the criticism coming out of that pretty mouth. "Picky aren't we?" he sighed.

Cherry just continued to taste. "Don't ask me my opinion if you're going to whine about it."

Even though it was still October, Joe was already busy with a new special menu for the holidays. People liked themed dinners, so he was trying to prepare a limited menu to celebrate Christmas, and had his lover Cherry be the test subject. His opinions were more negative than expected.

"Can you at least say something about the way it looks? Christmassy right?"

"Yeah. But it's about the flavor, not how it looks. You're a cook, not an artist."

Joe observed Cherry and wondered if maybe this was just a bad day for him. Being the creative one, the Cherry he knew would enjoy pretty food like this. He was usually critical but not this negative. There wasn't even the tiniest compliment on anything Joe had created this evening, not even sarcasm or a joke. Maybe his mood was just bad...

"Alright, I'll take it. I'm going to improve it, then I want you to taste it again," Joe said.

"Wait.. Right now?" Cherry asked.

"Yes, right now. Just another tasting. You can still eat something right?"

"Well, yes."

"Good. Then before we do that," Joe said, and he rolled his sleeves and walked around the bar. Cherry followed him curiously, his head turning, until Joe was right beside him.

"What do you want?" he sighed. Joe smirked and leaned in.

"A kiss," he said, moving closer. Cherry rolled his eyes.

"Fine," he said, and he leaned in as well to accept the kiss.

"And a tickle," Joe said right before their lips touched. Cherry was simply too late to respond. Joe already caught his lips in a forceful kiss, and both his hands latched onto Cherry's sides and squeezed.

Cherry jerked heavily and he let out a cute little moan, but Joe took this chance to add some sweet tongue to the kiss, tasting the remains of his own menu while he drank Cherry's restrained laughter.

"Hmhhheheh J-Joe hmhh!" The muffled and pitchy giggles sounded adorable. Even though he enjoyed the kiss, Joe decided it was better to hear more of Cherry's voice, so he finally released his lips and let himself take in that sweet joyful laughter.

"Joe you dihiiiiick!" And curses. Joe smiled while his fingers continued to tickle Cherry.

"Tickles?" he asked teasingly.

"Nohoho I hahahate you!" Cherry howled. Hehe. Joe let his fingers climb a little higher, aiming for Cherry's underarms and loving how he tensed up completely and tried to defend himself.

"Love you too, darling." He dragged it for a little while longer, teasing his beloved Cherry and making him laugh until tears were in his eyes and his face was all red.

Joe then gave him another kiss and returned to his position behind the bar.

"You - are - such - an - ass," Cherry said breathlessly.

"Yup. But I am your ass. Ready for the next tasting?" Although Cherry didn't respond, by the time Joe served the dishes again, having used Cherry's feedback for some improvements, and Cherry tasted it, there was a sweet, soft look on his face.

"It's good."

Joe smiled. "And?"

"It looks nice. The taste is better too. I think it will make a good menu," Cherry said. Joe grinned merrily and reached out with his hand, taking Cherry's hand in his and squeezing it gently.

"I'm glad you like it better now," he said. Maybe it was just the few adjustments he had made, and he was overthinking this, but he was pretty convinced that tickling Cherry helped lift his mood.

He seemed less negative and more supportive.

"Except this here," Cherry said with a smile, and he pointed to the plate that had the dessert on it.

"You have to bake this longer. And less cream. It's also a little too sweet." Pfft, less negative, but still critical, as he should be.

"Got it ma'am," Joe chuckled, and this time he didn't even bother walking around the bar. The hand that was holding Cherry's pulled until he bent forward and he could kiss him. He already couldn't wait for Christmas!
