The Critic (2023) Review
London 1934, film critic Jimmy Erskine has a lot of power over the West End with his rather harsh reviews. Targetting actress Nina Land, everything is about to get rather messy as he fights for his job creating a deceitful web of lies. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Continue reading The Critic (2023) Review

Episode 6
— I knew someone mentioned a bar mitzvah episode! I was excited for those of you who complain about the lack of Jewish characters in the MCU. Curious about Joe Locke’s pronunciation though. Only been to two and was like, ??? I already love Jeff and Rebecca and I am worried about them.
— Never have I been so happy to be wrong about the Sigil when I saw Lilia. I teared up. Then the first thing he said was. “Tommy,” and I legit cried. Then Alice showed up! I am too emotional.
— Eddie is very cute. I like you but you are not Teddy so I am worried about you too.
— I knew it was Evan Peters from the moment he said he met someone online. And then when I saw him in the bucket hat, I laughed so hard because YouTube nerds insisted the guy in the bucket hat was Mephisto and, again, I love when they are wrong. And I kind of want the Bohner Family reunion t shirt Agatha had?
— Also! In further, nerds are wrong news. The “missing” names in the title cards aren’t Elizabeth Olsen or Sacha Baron Coen. It’s Jeff, Rebecca, Boyf and Evan Peters. I guessed Jeff and Rebecca. Didn’t count on two on each card. Alas. But I am right-er.
— And Joe Locke said next week was better. I am already vibrating.

An essay I wrote about Richard II, Henry IV, and Henry V at the Guthrie Theater was published this week in the Stage Directors and Choreographers Journal.
I assistant directed the plays earlier this year and enjoyed reflecting back on the process with the actors, directors, stage managers, dramaturgs, casting directors, and observers who made the process possible. A huge thank you to my editors at SDC, Stephanie Coen and Lucy Gram, and everyone who gave their time for interviews: Mark Catron, Penelope Geng, Joe Haj, Tyler Michaels King, Jennifer Liestman, Tree O’Halloran, Carla Steen, Will Sturdivant, and Stephen Yoakam.
I wanted to work with Joe Haj since I saw his Pericles at the Folger Shakespeare Library in 2015 when I was on the public programs staff. It is still one of the best productions of [anything] that I’ve seen and I’m grateful he invited me to join the directing team3 for this project. I have so many treasured memories like Henry IV bringing an air fryer to rehearsal and making pizza rolls for everyone, Hotspur creating company-specific Connections during tech, or the staggeringly brilliant composer Jack Herrick teaching me to juggle during dinner breaks.
Joe and Yoke were in the Histories at the Guthrie in 1990 and I read Michael Pennington’s book about producing ALL of the history plays with the English Shakespeare Company during rehearsals. We were all struck by how the challenges and rewards of digging deeply into Shakespeare rhyme across the years:
Joe was reminded of an experience he had on a tour of the theatre archives at the Folger Shakespeare Library when he directed Hamlet there in 2010. “I remember [the librarians] taking these prompt books down and looking in the margins, which are filled, filled, filled with scribbles of…artists just like us, trying to wrestle to the ground the hardest material in the world. Trying to find a path into it, trying to make something that may be beautiful for people to come and participate in and watch. I realized this play has been around for centuries…we’re just in the river of the long history of this play.” “We get to go in, splash around a little bit, make our minor contribution to this eons long contemplation of this play. It was so disburdening…I don’t have to make the perfect anything. I don’t have to make the thing nobody’s ever seen. I don’t have to do any of those things. I just have to try to make the thing as beautifully as I know how with these collaborators in this process, that’s my only responsibility.”

* ◟ : 〔 MICHIEL HUISMAN , CIS MAN + HE /HIM 〕 COEN HUMMEL , some say you’re a FORTY-TWO YEAR OLD lost soul among the neon lights. known for being both ASTUTE and UNFORGIVING, one can’t help but think of PERFECT (EXCEEDER) by MASON VS PRINCESS SUPERSTAR when you walk by. are you still a DEFECTIVE ASSASSIN / PRIVATE DETECTIVE at RED EYE, even with your reputation as the THE SCORNED? i think we’ll be seeing more of you and NIGHT TERRORS BLEEDING INTO REALITY BLEEDING INTO DEVOTION, LOVE IS A FEAST BUT YOU'VE LEARNED TO ABSTAIN, THE SEATS ARE EMPTY AND THE THEATRE IS DARK - WHY DO YOU KEEP ACTING?, although we can’t help but think of CANE (JOHN WICK 4), LADYBUG (BULLET TRAIN), BENOIT BLANC (KNIVES OUT) whenever we see you down these rainy streets.
ENTER THE SCORNED .
You show face beneath the neon splatter with a wide grin and lazy posture. A black glove adorns each hand — a staple piece at any given time and day. An atmosphere of liveliness clings like a third skin. The second being who you present yourself as currently to the naked eye. And the first still shrouded in a fog of oil-slick mystery. But no matter, you're here! A little-lot worse for wear, but alive no less! Despite all the trails and tribulations you've slogged through, your heart still beats and your lungs still take in air. But whether that stays the case for long.. Well, we'll just have to see what the cards fate will deal.
PUBLICLY KNOWN FACTS:
Name: Coen Hummel
Appearance: Two sides of the same coin. From scraggly, roughed up investigator to a regular joe that's just trying to get around. Coen's capable of dressing to the nines if a situation calls for it. But if he's being honest, there's far more comfort in wearing in the basics. He can stand tall, but prefers to slouch. Will always be wearing black gloves. Has the full facial hair set that's usually taken care of quite meticulously.
Background: Single child raised in the Midwest. Run-of-the-mill childhood in a steady household. Fortunate enough to discover a deeply founded passion early on, though it's led him down a narrow path in life. Never got married, but certainly had a child. Was dealt the misfortune of never being able to watch his son grow as an adult. Both his then partner and child were tragically taken in a hit and run. Grief has walked with him ever since. Even as he sorts himself out. Quits relying on booze to numb everything, keeps an eye on what he eats. An ache stays as a callous in his soul despite his sunny ( if not a little crazy ) disposition.
Is anosmatic ( i.e. unable to smell / has impacted taste ), but never lets it stop him from being a foodie. Note — he is known to purposely partake in the weirdest combinations known to mankind.
Will always make up a different reason for why he wears gloves all the time. Yes, they're all very stupid.
Is completely blind in the left eye, but has several prosthetics. Refuses any help concerning advanced technology to restore sight.
Has a dog named Boatmeal. Endearingly nicknames him Bo. Certified emotional support dog & scent training.
WHAT'S BURIED UNDERNEATH .
Birth name: Boudewijin Bekker
Cause for gloves: ** tw: self-mutilation start** The back of his hands had been marked with something related to Stoneage Industries growing up. Once he defected, he couldn't stand the sight of them. He depersonalized extremely bad and severed the skin off the back of his hands, got some skin grafts smacked on, and now has some really gross scars. Hence, the gloves. **tw: self-mutilation end**
HISTORY HIS HEART KNOWS ( PRIVATE ) .
Growing up with a single father is hard; even harder, still, when said father was half drowned in debt. Boudewijin was forced to grow up faster than his peers. He had to be scrappy and figured out ways to help his father wherever he could. Admittedly, his father wasn’t a perfect person or parent; most of the time he numbed their shitty situation with the promise of liquor. And, yes, there were times where he was a little heavy handed with him if he did something foolish, but they both loved each other all the same.
Nothing could have prepared Boudewijin when his father fell ill. They couldn’t afford the treatment required, and he had to stand witness to the slow decline of his father’s health. The man went from being a sizable man to bone thin in the matter of months. And one day Boudewijin didn’t see him at all. At the time, he’d thought that his father was working overtime – that he’d be back home later or sometime during the night. Then one day became two, and then two became three… Worried, he called everyone that knew his father, but his answer wasn’t brought to light until the police arrived at his doorstep by the fourth night.
**tw: suicide start**
Suicide, they had said. The evidence was clear with the note left in the passenger seat, and the pistol gripped in his father’s hand. Boudewijin was barely at ten the time. And the only damning grace is the organization that plucked him from the system.
**tw: suicide end**
HISTORY AS HE KNOWS IT ( IN STONEAGE RECORDS ) .
It's believed that Boudewijin would succeed. No, he might not have been the strongest or most agile, but there was undeniable grit. The refusal to give up and stay down. Wherever he was sent to, whatever task he was given to complete. He always came shambling back in pieces, hardly breathing but still very much alive. It wasn't until his early thirties did things flip.
What should have been an unlikely but harmless friendship grew into something more. Something far more steadfast than allowed. He tried to keep it casual. Tried to make it clear that they'd never work under his then alias and fake background. But she was just as stubborn as him, and after some time they were gifted with the absolute apple of their eyes — their son, Morgan.
Life was bearable then — just for a short year, at least. Boudewijin thought he took all the right measures to keep them safe and out of Stoneage's view. But he should've known better. It was the exact same blind faith that brought him misfortune in the worst of ways. Someone caught wind and sparked a wildfire to regain control. Snip any thought of freedom in the bud before there's even a whisper of rebellion.
His partner and son disappeared into thin air. The only warning he got was that they knew. None of the details were spared. Didn't have to be when Boudewijin knew it was a test of fidelity, but that didn’t staunch the outrage. Naturally, he bent to their will — hoping, praying that they were safe and left alone. But no news ever came of their fate. No matter how long he waited.. and waited.. and waited.
They were never seen or heard from again.
Something snapped, then. Deep seated hatred accelerated its roots and consumed him, but again — he was no fool. A one man riot would’ve been a suicide mission. So he waited once more. This time with his ears strained to catch wind of the perfect time and escape.
Boudewijin put forth his all when the plan went into effect. If the unkindly grace of fate wanted to have him drop dead then so be it. There was hardly any worth to his life. Yet he somehow survived those sent after him; not without significant bodily damage but still very much alive and kicking.
HISTORY BEING WRITTEN ( THE BEGINNING OF 'DEAR DIARIES' ).
Normalcy never fully settles back his life, as his days will forever be plagued with unrest. The pristine visage he once carried so proudly diminished into a mere husk of vanity. Somehow, by some miracle, he retained enough of a drive to change things up. Leave behind who he once was — who he'd become — and start anew as Coen Hummel, a man that's barely skirting by life. Although he might be with a new identity, he knows better this time. Keeps a close eye on those around him. Pays extra attention to what might lurk around every corner and shadow. Waits patiently but prepared for those still looking for him.

Some cover art for The Holy Roller, a comic about a pro-bowler turned vigilante, written by Andy Samberg, Joe Trohman and Rick Remender.
The Holy Roller, follows Levi Coen, a pro-bowler forced to quit his dream job and return to his hometown in hopes of caring for his ailing father. It is not long after he returns that he discovers that his once-secure town is overrun by Neo-Nazis. All he has to defend himself is his prestigious bowling ball collection, but, with it, Levi becomes the only force that can possibly decimate these Neo-Nazi scumbags: the Holy Roller.
"This is a hilarious and poignant story, full of big action, and told from a place of real passion."
The Holy Roller is described as a blend of Inglourious Basterds, Batman, and the movie Kingpin, with a deeper message and emotional depth that promises to resonate with readers. Available on November 22.

Bear nonnie here! how are you? how has your health been? it's been a while (forgot my tumblr password lel)
here to report that I re-read porce and the shark, iconic really. I also saw the most recent season of Fargo, which was very good, Juno temple was stellar, I reccommend (rip it tho because the coen brother's are zionists), that also send me back into my strangers thing phase #throwback, (also rip it tho because of the nasty zionist cast). I remember why Joe Keery was a crush of mine, Steve Harrington and Gator Tillman are attractive in veryyyyyy different ways.
but Arian you remain #1 in my heart
what have media have you been liking recently?
Omg hello Bear Nonnie!!! How are you? I've missed you! So great to chat with you again haha!
My health hasn't been the greatest lately, I've been having a pretty miserable lupus flare up. I've had some of the rashes as well which don't make me feel super hot honestly. I hope you've been well?! So easy to happen!
Thank you!!! I'm so glad it's holding up haha, I need to finish some more pieces for that series. I have so many ideas and characters I want to write for atm, it's tough trying to balance it all with the rest of adulting.
Juno Temple has great comedic timing, I've only seen the Fargo film but I saw a clip of her accent and I was so surprised at how good it was. I didn't know that about the Coen brothers, that's so disappointing, I know Joel Coen signed the open letter supporting Jonathan Glazer's speech at the oscars. So hopefully that means he's re-evaluated, reflected on earlier comments and taken time to educate himself more on what's happening and has been been happening since the Nakba. Ethan Coen didn't sign that letter though. I'm not really a Coen brothers stan, I've only seen a couple of projects of theirs but it's still always disappointing to know that there's other human beings with awful, zionist beliefs. Especially when they're people with platforms most of us don't have. Joe Keery's character in Fargo does seem verrrryyy different for him!
Arian is our number one man! That's not a phone in his pocket, it's my heart!
I recently finished Fallout! I really enjoyed it! I love Ella Purnell and it was so cool to see Moisés Arias in a big project like this after watching Hannah Montana as a kid. I really enjoyed the story, all the social commentary, and the characters. I really want to write some fics for Lucy, Norm, and Maximus! ALSO MAX'S ACTOR IS GIVING YOUNG DENZEL WASHINGTON?!?!?!?! Somebody PLEASE beg me to write some fallout fics so I feel like I can procrastinate with that!
Other than that I've mainly been watching films! I watched Ava DuVernay's latest film 'Origin' last week. It had your fav Jon Bernthal in it! He played a very sweet wholesome guy! I enjoyed the film, I think there were a few holes in it/the thesis but it was an ambitious experiment. I really loved Monkey Man with Dev Patel! Seeing all the hype and love he's getting is making me very happy. I saw Skins way too young... I saw Past Lives and American Fiction for the first time recently and really enjoyed them as well. My friend and I are trying to see Challengers and Abigail at the cinemas but the times aren't lining up. I've been doing a bit of an Oscar Isaac marathon as well. I've been trying to get my book reading up and more 'international' cinema! What media have you been consuming since you sent this in? I'm so stoked for The Bear S3! I think we're getting it next month sometime?
Absolutely adore you Bear Nonnie! Hope you're having the best day! I always enjoy replying to your asks. Send another one in when you get a chance and I'm always happy to message about films! ❤️❤️❤️
(Someone please tell me to write Fallout fanfic now pls)

Resident evil Omegaverse AU
Remember! im not a English mother language! so if you find some error pls tell me and i correct the error!
Omegaverse is one of my favorite drugs, if you add Mpreg you give me a very big joy! So i have decide to make my personal version of Omegaverse in Re fandom!
Some Info is inspired from @sparkie96 works!

!!! IMPORTANT NOTE !!!
My omegaverse is slightly different than most works I've gotten my hands on! Omega males DO NOT own a vagina! but the entrance to the reproductive system is located in the rectal area! When they go into pre-heat they will have very strong abdominal cramps because the canal has a muscle that "moves" when they go into heat, to close the digestive tract and open the reproductive canal, these cramps will also be there after the heat which will last about 2/3 days (together with the pre heat and the post heat it will last approximately 6/7 days). The look doesn't differ much! the bicinii is slightly wider than normal! They won't keep them growing when pregnant! his pecs will simply swell and that's it!

Omegaverse in RE fandom!
In the world of Resident evil, omegas are really rare (3% of the entire world population), because they have particularly difficult genes to breed!, but they are not seen as weak, needy and that must be protected. Law enforcement agencies such as Police, Special Forces and others seek them out for use in rescue missions, because due to their nature they are able to calm down and help kidnap victims, such as in the case of Ashley's kidnapping. They are trained to resist psychologically to pheromones of any kind, and to bear severe physical and psychological trauma. Betas are the highest percentage of all (about 60% of the world population), they are very normal humans, pheromones do not affect them at all, and they only use them to recognize people. Alphas make up a good percentage, but not as much as betas (about 30%), they are men who are relatively strong and dedicated to protecting the people they love.
Finished all this rant here is the list of all the characters of RE and their secondary genre!

Rebecca Chambers: Alpha(I loved his personality in RE Vendetta! and when i scolded the two kids arguing i adored her and my mind decided she was alpha!)
Billy Coen: Beta
Albert Wesker: Alpha(Albert is an "old school" alpha, where the omegas are just slaves and shouldn't exist!)
William Birkin: Beta
Chris Redfield: Alpha
Jill Valentine: Alpha
Barry Burton: Alpha
Brad Vickers: Beta
Leon S. Kennedy: Omega/Alpha/Beta(Its genre depends a lot on the plot! In some stories he is a beta/alpha turned into an Omega, only to have to continue taking "steroids" to return to alpha or appear as a beta!)
Claire Redfield: Beta/alpha( I'm uncertain)
Ada Wong: beta
Sherry Birkin: Beta/Alpha
Hunk: beta(???)
Carlos Oliveira: Omega
Mikhail Viktor: Alpha
Nikolai Zinoviev: Beta
Steve Burnside: Beta/Omega
Ashley Graham: Omega/Beta
Ingrid Hunnigan: Alpha
Jack Krauser:Alpha(When he wasn't a jerk he was a regular alpha, when he wanted his lookout he started thinking old fashioned like Wesker.)
Parker Luciani: Beta
Keith Lumley: Beta
Jessica Sherawat: Beta
Quint Cetcham: Beta
Raymond Vester: Beta
Sheva Alomar: Alpha/Beta
Josh Stone: Beta
Excella Gionne: Beta

Ladies, gentlemen, and interesting people, welcome to...
Tumblr media
The Mackolades are my personal annual film awards, awarded to my favorite (for the most part) movies, performances, and people from all the movies I watched for the first time in 2022, regardless of release year. This is more or less a companion series to Brendan’s Pink Bettes, as most of our movie watching is together. You can see the first and second Mackolades here on my tumblr, now let’s get started on the third!
Tumblr media
FAVORITE DRAMA
WINNER: tick, tick...BOOM! (2021) dir. Lin-Manuel Miranda
FINALISTS:
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) dir. James Cameron
Dramarama (2020) dir. Jonathan Wysocki
Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) dir. Daniel Scheinert & Daniel Kwan
TÁR (2022) dir. Todd Field
NOMINEES:
The Batman (2022) dir. Matt Reeves
The Godfather (1972) dir. Francis Ford Coppola
Klaus (2019) dir. Sergio Pablos
Pride & Prejudice (2005) dir. Joe Wright
The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) dir. Anthony Minghella
Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022) dir. George Miller
GREAT year for the Favorite Drama category! I knew from the first few minutes of tick, tick...BOOM! that it was winning, but two of the finalists (Dramarama and Everything Everywhere All At Once) gave it a real run for its money. And then TÁR was just impeccable in every way (CATE!!!!!!). Special shoutout to The Godfather for actually living up to the hype and The Batman for being a genuinely good superhero movie. Highly recommend Dramarama in particular to any of my theatre friends that see this.
Tumblr media
FAVORITE HORROR
WINNER: The Menu (2022) dir. Mark Mylod
FINALISTS:
All About Evil (2010) dir. Joshua Grannell (aka Peaches Christ)
Nope (2022) dir. Jordan Peele
Pearl (2022) dir. Ti West
Scream (2022) dir. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett
NOMINEES:
Arachnophobia (1990) dir. Frank Marshall
Barbarian (2022) dir. Zach Cregger
Fresh (2022) dir. Mimi Cave
Hellraiser (2022) dir. David Bruckner
What Keeps You Alive (2018) dir. Colin Minihan
X (2022) dir. Ti West
GREAT year for horror, too! The Menu is such a fun ride, almost more of a dark comedy than horror. I had a lot more actual scares this year than in 2021, particularly in Nope, Scream, Arachnophobia, and Barbarian.
Tumblr media
FAVORITE COMEDY
WINNER: Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar (2021) dir. Josh Greenbaum
FINALISTS:
Do Revenge (2022) dir. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson
Glass Onion (2022) dir. Rian Johnson
Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015) dir. Michael Showalter
Kissing Jessica Stein (2001) dir. Charles Herman-Wurmfeld
NOMINEES:
Burn After Reading (2008) dir. Ethan Coen & Joel Coen
Fire Island (2022) dir. Andrew Ahn
Little Miss Sunshine (2006) dir. Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris
Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris (2022) dir. Anthony Fabian
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) dir. Joel Zwick
See How They Run (2022) dir. Tom George
Hey guess what. It was a great year for comedy, too. Barb & Star is destined to join Romy & Michele and the Tragedy Girls as a pair of gal pals that live in my head for the rest of my life. They’ve had this win sewn up since I first saw the movie in August, but there was still plenty of competition. Do Revenge is probably my unofficial runner up - those twists and turn and goops and gags and outfits!
Tumblr media
FAVORITE SERIES
WINNER: Before Trilogy (3/3)
FINALISTS:
The Godfather (3/3)
Hell House, LLC (2/3)
Wong Kar-wai’s Love Trilogy (3/3)
X/Pearl/Maxxxine (2/3)
God, what can I say that hasn’t already been said about Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy? It’s just two people talking, but it’s perfect!
Tumblr media
THE THANKS! I HATE IT! AWARD
WINNER: Whiplash (2014) dir. Damien Chazelle
FINALIST: Fall (2022) dir. Scott Mann
This new category is for movies that are good, but I hate them anyway! And there’s no movie that quite fits that bill like Whiplash. What an incredible work that I never wanna see again. Or dwell on for long here.
Tumblr media
BIGGEST SURPRISE
WINNER: Halloween Ends (2022) dir. David Gordon Green
FINALISTS:
Brothers (2009) dir. Jim Sheridan
The Invitation (2022) dir. Jessica M. Thompson
Nerve (2016) dir. Henry Joost & Ariel Schulman
Uncle Peckerhead (2020) dir. Matthew John Lawrence
NOMINEES:
Fall (2022) dir. Scott Mann
Hatching (2022) dir. Hanna Bergholm
Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015) dir. Michael Showalter
Kissing Jessica Stein (2001) dir. Charles Herman-Wurmfeld
The Lost City (2022) dir. Adam Nee & Aaron Nee
Valentine (2001) dir. Jamie Blanks
After Halloween Kills won Biggest Letdown at last year’s Mackolades, I went into Halloween Ends with rock bottom expectations, but was pleasantly surprised! From the opening scene it showed it was completely different from any Halloween movie that came before it, and I was mostly delighted by what followed. It’s far from the best Halloween, and has some major problems, but it’s leagues ahead of Kills, and that alone win it Biggest Surprise for me.
Tumblr media
BIGGEST LETDOWN
WINNER: Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (2022) dir. Sam Raimi
I’ve engaged in a fair bit of MCU hate over the last few years, but I’ve held onto the belief that I’d probably enjoy them if I gave them a chance and just didn’t think too hard about it. Well... I guess I was wrong. I really thought I’d like this, the trailers looked interesting and Sam Raimi has a pretty good track record with me. But yeah... Martin Scorsese was right, these are just flashy theme park rides. Absolutely zero substance worth engaging with. What a disappointment, for me and for general culture. Anyway, somehow this was the only movie I watched in 2022 that I went into with expectations that were significantly let down, and I figured I’d give it its own multiverse of mediocrity with the myriad of posters available.
Tumblr media
FAVORITE LEAD ACTRESS PERFORMANCE
WINNER: Cate Blanchett, TÁR (2022)
FINALISTS:
Mia Goth, Pearl (2022)
Janelle Monae, Glass Onion (2022)
Keke Palmer, Nope (2022)
Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)
NOMINEES:
Jessica Chastain, The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021)
Sally Field, Hello, My Name Is Doris (2015)
Natasha Lyonne, All About Evil (2010)
Lesley Manville, Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris (2022)
Thandiwe Newton, God’s Country (2022)
Anya Taylor-Joy, The Menu (2022)
Okay I have to bullet point this one so I can talk about all the finalists.
Cate is THE performance of the year for me. Her take on Lydia Tár is nothing short of amazing - even from the opening scene, with that TED Talk-like scene where she just talks about music for a few minutes, had Brendan and me grabbing each other and whispering in the (otherwise empty) theater about how breathtaking her performance was. I can’t believe I’m giving her lead actress two years in a row (out of three total!) but she really does deserve it.
Brendan and I loved Mia Goth in 2020′s Emma, but she reached new heights in X and, in particular, Pearl. The monologue! The face journey! The everything else! She’s now on the We’ll See Anything She’s In list, and I can’t wait for MaXXXine.
Janelle! I don’t have as much to say for her, but damn she picks projects well! Incredible lady and fantastic performance(s) in Glass Onion.
Keke - #ReleaseTheSpinCut! What a joy.
Okay I adore Michelle Yeoh and if Cate doesn’t win the Oscar I hope it’s hers. Truly wonderful and deserves everything good that’s coming her way right now.

FAVORITE SUPPORTING ACTRESS PERFORMANCE
WINNER: Hong Chau, The Menu (2022)
FINALISTS:
Jamie Clayton, Hellraiser (2022)
Courtney Cox, Scream (2022)
Stephanie Hsu, Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)
Brittany Snow, X (2022)
NOMINEES:
Margaret Cho, Fire Island (2022)
Tovah Feldshuh, Kissing Jessica Stein (2001)
Vanessa Hudgens, tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Andrea Martin, My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
Alia Shawkat, Being The Ricardos (2021)
Tandi Wright, Pearl (2022)
Hong Chau is another 2022 addition to the We’ll See Anything She’s In list, and she got an Oscar nom for the other one! Yay! But this is about my favorites, not objectivity, and I prefer her in The Menu. What a treat! I don’t have much to say about the finalists and nominees that wouldn’t require this becoming far too long, so I’m just gonna move on.
Tumblr media
FAVORITE ACTOR PERFORMANCE
WINNER: Paul Dano, Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
FINALISTS:
Marlon Brando, The Godfather (1972)
Austin Butler, Elvis (2022)
Alton Brown, Elvis (2022)
Ke Huy Quan, Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)
NOMINEES:
Rohan Campbell, Halloween Ends (2022)
Ralph Fiennes, The Menu (2022)
Andrew Garfield, tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Robin de Jesús, tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Haley Joel Osment, Sassy Pants (2012)
Conrad Ricamora, Fire Island (2022)
I started watching Little Miss Sunshine for Toni, but I remember it for Paul, particularly the sequence pictured above. Special shoutout to Alton Brown for stealing the show for a scene or two of Elvis (a difficult task when Austin Butler’s Elvis is present!)
Tumblr media
THE TONI “SHE HAS THE RANGE” COLLETTE AWARD FOR MULTI-GENRE EXCELLENCE
WINNER: Jim Carrey, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)/Sonic The Hedgehog (2020)
FINALISTS:
Jamie Dornan, Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar (2021)/Belfast (2021)
Idris Elba, The Dark Tower (2017)/Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (2022)/Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)
Jenna Ortega, The Fallout (2021)/Scream (2022)
Tilda Swinton, Burn After Reading (2008)/Constantine (2005)/Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)
I mean, Jim Carrey was basically born to play Dr. Robotnik, and when you contrast that with Eternal Sunshine, well, that’s basically what this category is for!
Tumblr media
THE CARLY RAE JEPSEN “SHE MAKES MY BLOOD FEEL CARBONATED” AWARD
WINNER: Elaine Stritch, Original Cast Album: Company (1970)
During the Ladies Who Lunch sequence of the Company documentary, I must’ve turned to Brendan at least three times to say “I love being gay” - Elaine’s an icon and a queen and I hate I didn’t get into theatre soon enough to appreciate her while she was alive. (NOTE: If I’d started this category a year earlier, Carol Channing certainly would’ve gotten it for the documentary Larger Than Life, and it felt wrong to not mention that here)
Tumblr media
HOTTEST DADDY
WINNER: Russell Crowe, The Nice Guys (2016)
FINALISTS:
George Clooney, Solaris (2002)
Guillermo Diaz, Bros (2022)
Thomas Forbes-Madison, The Lost City (2022)
David Harbour, Violent Night (2022)
NOMINEES:
Daniel Craig, Glass Onion (2022)
Idris Elba, Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)
Ethan Hawke, The Black Phone (2022)
Martin Henderson, X (2022)
Peter Sarsgaard, The Batman (2022)
Bradley Whitford, tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Someone ask me what kind of guys I like. I dare you. I downloaded six entire movies to get enough usable shots of these men - definitely the most work I did for any single category.
Anyway, that’s the 2022 Mackolades! 65 movies honored (or dishonored) from an eligibility pool of 205. Now you know what I love - any recommendations of what to watch in 2023?

Hej, because I love your book and work I got curious about works that you yourself love! What are some books, tv-shows, and movies that you love?
Hey there!
So firstly, I actually send out a regular email that sums up new events I'm doing, new works published, and also includes media recs! If you search "update" on my Tumblr I crosspost it here and put it on Patreon too, but if you want it direct to your inbox you can check out last week's here.
I have a pretty wide and varied set of tastes and preferences, so I oscillate pretty widely between books, movies, TV shows, games, radio shows, etc.
Firstly, books wise, I love Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, especially the Industrial Revolution subseries; I adore PG Wodehouse's Jeeves books; I love Les Misérables, and to a lesser extent Victor Hugo's other body of work. I also have a lot of affection for Jules Verne, Evelyn Waugh, Christopher Isherwood, and E.M. Forster. I also heartily adore Patrick O'Brian's Aubreyad.
I can unfortunately not be relied upon for new releases, or indeed releases in the last century, especially because reading is such a struggle for me.
I rate a lot of stuff on Letterboxd too, film-wise, and you can see some favourites on there! These are 10 favourite movies I picked out of my top pile at random, they're all very different genres and tones:
Attack the Block (2011, dir. Joe Cornish)
The Novitiate (2017, dir. Margaret Betts)
Mysterious Skin (2004, dir. Gregg Araki)
Withnail and I (1987, dir. Bruce Robinson)
Deep Cover (1992, dir. Bill Duke)
Hustlers (2019, dir. Lorene Scafaria)
A Single Man (2009, dir. Tom Ford)
A Serious Man (2009, dir. the Coen Brothers)
Fire Island (2022, dir. Andrew Ahn)
The Silenced (2015, dir. Lee Hae-young)
My taste in TV is also pretty varied, but these are some assorted favourites of mine that I rewatch a lot:
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Jeeves and Wooster
Abbott Elementary
Letterkenny
Gregory Horror Show
P-Valley
Haunting of Hill House
Person of Interest
Pushing Daisies
The Terror S1
Also I love Cabin Pressure, which is a radio sitcom and is sooo funny.
