The Making of the Glass Onion Music Video
“The team at Trunk, headed by Producer Richard Barnett and Layla Atkinson, alongside Directors Alasdair Brotherston and Jock Mooney, decided to create a piece which showed the artworks curatorial decision making process, as though through the eyes of Hamilton and McCartney. As the track plays, images are added and removed, elements are coloured and manipulated, film footage is run and spliced, and drawn elements are brought to life. With access to both Apple Corps Ltd.’s archive and Paul McCartney’s personal archive, Alasdair + Jock were able to include images that tell the stories behind the creation and distribution of the album as well as images that reflect the lyrics.”
Directors Alasdair and Jock noted, “Working on such an important album was an honour, and it was great to work with Apple’s archivist Aaron Bremner, who was able to supply high quality footage for some of the most abstract references! It was key for us to get the right images to tell the story of not only the poster, but the album and all those involved with it. Hopefully we’ve captured a part of the magic, the frenzy and turbulent process of making such an amazing album”.
A behind the scenes look here.
The final product here.

The Beatles : un clip inédit pour "Here Comes the Sun"
Tumblr media

Nerd Love
After years of working together, Pete still manages to break you.
Request: “Hi! Can I get a Pete imagine where you guys work on SNL together and you have few skits together and during one of them you can’t stop laughing”
Pete Davidson x Reader
Warnings: Cursing
Word Count: 2237
Tumblr media
“Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!” You hear Kate and the host of the week announce before Lorne motions that the cameras had cut for commercial break. You and Pete had a sketch together in exactly 12 minutes and 45 seconds, and you were trying to cool your nerves.
You loved your job, writing on SNL was something you had dreamed of since you were in middle school, and now it was your reality. Of course, it was hard, the hours were long and the work was demanding. But having Pete by your side made it all bearable.
You had met on your first day, getting hired one season after him. You two were deemed the “babies” of the cast because you were the youngest, so naturally you got paired up. A lot.
At first it bothered you that you only really ever worked with one person, but after your first few episodes you grew to love Pete. Your energies matched so well, and whenever you wrote together you easily built of each other.
After 6 years of working on the show together, you had become really close friends. You were with him through all of his hard times, and you were one of the few people he let visit him in rehab. In return, he stuck by your side through everything, even when the internet tried to cancel you for an interview that was taken completely out of context.
You couldn’t pinpoint when, but at some point, you had developed real feelings for him. Obviously, you’d never tell him, not wanting to mess up your amazing friendship. But they still flourished, especially when you would be up until 6 am writing sketches and goofing around in the writer’s room. Of course, the comments from fans didn’t help your feelings either. They loved you guys. Anytime you posted Pete on your social media, they were all over it.
But you guys had denied the dating rumors countless times since they’d started 5 years ago. Even though having to hear the words “we’re just friends” over and over killed you.
You were lost in thought when Pete came up behind you, hands grabbing your shoulders and shaking you slightly. “Ready bookworm?” He asked, moving to stand next to you.
“Only if you are, Mr. jock-man.” You laughed, rolling your eyes.
The sketch you and Pete had written was a young couple on a really fancy date to celebrate their 6-month anniversary. Your character was going on the date with Kyle Mooney’s character. Both of you were the stereotypical nerd couple with glasses, suspenders, and everything else. Pete was playing your waiter, who obviously did not give a shit about his job. He was the stereotypical jock character. Your character was super attracted to him and kept paying attention to him. He loved the attention and would do things like show you his (reaaaallllyyy) lame tattoos, tell you about sports, and everything that nerds don’t like. Kyle obviously didn’t like that and kept trying to get your attention in the weirdest of ways.
It was pretty funny in rehearsals, almost too funny. Seeing Pete act so out of character was hilarious to you and having to overdramatically flirt with him felt ridiculous. You barely made it through in rehearsals without laughing, so you had to hope you could do it on stage.
“Y/N, Pete, and Kyle. You’re up.” The stagehand told you, and you grabbed Kyle’s hand, walking to the stage.
The sketch started and you were doing okay. You and Kyle had your conversation about your anniversary and your favorite Star Wars movies. But then Pete walked onto the stage in his ridiculous waiter getup. His white shirt was unbuttoned at the top and wrinkled, his black pants hanging low on his hips, and his apron only half tied. You bit your tongue to keep yourself together.
“Welcome to White Oyster, what do you want?” He said in a very bored voice. You acted interested, eyes raking up and down him. You felt ridiculous and had to swallow a laugh.
Kyle pushed his glasses up on his nose, “me and my girlfriend are here for our six-month anniversary, so we would like the couple’s special.” His nerd voice was incredible.
“Okay. Anything else?” Pete’s voice remained monotone.
You bit your lip, “do you recommend anything else?” You asked, trying to sound nerd-sexy.
You could see Pete struggling to contain a smile. “I mean, whatever. Food here is shitty anyways.”
Kyle’s mouth gaped, “can you not speak like that around my girlfriend, please?”
The sketch continued with you making flirty remarks towards Pete, him being very bored and unaware, and Kyle trying to direct your attention. After your second attempt at flirting with him, you could feel yourself breaking down.
“So, I was wondering. Do you have any tattoos?” You asked him, your elbow on the table, twirling a piece of your hair in your finger.
Pete nodded, pulling up his shirt to show the big MOM tattoo on his side that was drawn on earlier. You felt a giggle slip out, completely out of character.
You tried to cover it up and continue, “wow, you really must love your mom, huh?” Another chuckle leaving your mouth, “that’s kinda hot.”
Kyle looked at you with wide eyes, “Linda!” He screamed the name of your character
Pete shrugged, “Nah, I did it myself. It says WOW, like world of warcraft.”
You couldn’t help the laugh that fell out of your mouth, and one followed from Pete. This was a disaster. You tried to regain your composure, knowing Kyle was probably really frustrated right now. “I just think tattoos are so cool. You don’t have any, do you Darren?” You asked Kyle’s character, eyes narrowing at him. You heard a chuckle from Pete beside you and you bit your cheek.
Kyle faked looking flustered, “N-no. But I have all 7 of the Harry Potter books and 4 collectors wands.”
Pete nodded, “Oh cool, I have a Harry Potter tattoo.” He pulled up his arm to show his real tattoo.
Your eyes went wide, “Wow. That’s way cooler.” You batted your eyes up at Pete, making him break even more. Watching his face go red and his mouth lifting up with laughter made you squeeze your eyes to hide your laughter.
“But babe!” Kyle was starting to break now too. “You love my Harry Potter stuff!”
“It’s cool, I guess.”
The sketch continued with you and Pete laughing anytime you looked at each other, your energies feeding into one another. You both tried really hard to keep it together, but something about flirting with Pete made you so giddy inside that you couldn’t help it.
Eventually the scene ended and the lights went down. You knew the cameras probably caught an extra few seconds after the close of the sketch, meaning they caught you and Pete breaking down into fits of laughter.
You somehow made it offstage, faces red. “We’re so gonna get fired.” He said through giggles.
“I’m so sorry,” You started, trying to take breaths through your laughs. “I don’t know why I couldn’t hold it together.”
“You looked ridiculous.” Pete laughed, pointing at your glasses.
After the show you made your way back to your dressing room, changing into your day clothes and getting ready to leave. You finally checked your phone, which had been off the duration of the show.
Your twitter feed was filled with clips of you and Pete laughing through the sketch.
They’re so cute together #goals
Love their friendship
Get you someone who looks at you like Pete looks at Y/N
Poor Kyle ☹
The way they can’t get through a skit because they’re too in love
And they say they aren’t dating…
Can’t believe the unprofessionalism
Pete and Y/N are dating… no one can convince me otherwise
The flirting!!! The looks!!!
I would like Pete and Y/N to get married and adopt me please
Your heart melted at all the comments, a sigh leaving your mouth. You watched the video and noticed the way he looked at you anytime you broke character, it was the same way you looked at him all the time.
You shook your head, convincing yourself you were imagining it. You couldn’t afford to think like that, it would ruin your friendship.
A knock at your door pulled you out of your thoughts, “Y/N, wanna go grab a drink with me?” It was Pete.
“You can come in.” You called, and he did so. “I don’t know, I was thinking I might just go home. I’m pretty tired.” You really just wanted to go home and sort through your feelings for the umpteenth time that month.
He nodded, watching as you tossed various items in your bag, “you were great tonight.”
You giggled, “Pete I barely made it through our sketch, it was a disaster.”
He rolled his eyes, walking over to where you were at your vanity. “I messed up too, but it was fine. No one noticed.”
You leaned into the mirror, fixing your makeup slightly. Pete was very close to you, watching you through said mirror. “Trust me, Petey. Everyone noticed.” You laughed, standing up straight again.
Your back was inches from his chest, and you could suddenly feel a different sort of tension in the air. But you didn’t make any move to shift away from him. He gave you a quizzical look through the mirror and you took out your phone, turning to him.
You took in a breath at the proximity. You weren’t close enough to kiss or anything, but his chest was only a few inches away from you. You shook away the thoughts you were having and opened your twitter, letting him scroll through the tweets. He chuckled and shook his head as he read them, eventually handing you your phone back.
“People really like us together.” He said, smiling.
You rolled your eyes, “They have for the past like, 6 years, Petey. We’re funny.” You smiled moving to turn back to grab your bag, but his hand grabbed your hip and made you stay facing him.
Your mind went blank at his touch, trying to figure out if this was real or if you were just really really tired. “That’s not what I meant.” He said, quieter.
You laughed, looking away from his eyes, not really knowing what to say. “I mean, people have always thought… stuff like that.” You mumbled, trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
Pete’s eyes were searching your face, taking in every detail. “Have you ever thought about, like, why people think we’re…” He trailed off, but you knew what he was implying.
You blushed, looking down at your toes. “I mean, I guess we’re together a lot and we get on well. People just like to make assumptions, I guess.”
“Yeah, and I’m sure it doesn’t help that I can never keep my eyes off of you, even when the cameras are rolling.” He said, a chuckle following.
You smiled, looking back up at him, your brain trying to process what he just said. After a few moments of silence, you spit out a “why are you bringing this up?” Your voice was soft, almost a whisper.
He sighed, hand moving from your hip and rubbing his face lightly. “I don’t know, I’ve just been thinking a lot.” You gave him a look that told him to continue. “I mean, I think it’s kind of obvious that I like you.”
Your mouth dropped, “obvious? Pete Davidson you have been far from obvious about your feelings.” You really thought you were dreaming, hearing those words from him was just impossible.
“Are you kidding me? How many sketches do I have to write just so I can flirt with you? Have you not picked up on the fact that literally every sketch I write for you to be in we’re playing some sort of couple?” He laughed, stepping towards you, and grabbing your hips again. “Dude, and I thought I was oblivious to this shit.”
“In my defense I’ve spent the past like 6 years trying to convince myself you didn’t feel the same way.” You said, a smile crossing your face.
Pete rolled his eyes, leaning closer to you, “now why would you wanna do that?” There was a playful tone in his voice, but you couldn’t help your serious answer.
“Because I didn’t wanna read the signs wrong and mess up our friendship.” You sighed.
Pete’s smile softened, “Y/N I literally want to kill you right now for making me wait this long.” You giggled, leaning closer to him. “But you’re cute so I guess I can let it slide.”
“If I kiss you will it make up for it?” You asked, batting your eyelashes.
Pete pretended to think about it, “hmmm, maybe. You should definitely give it a shot to see.”
You rolled your eyes, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him into you. Your lips touched his and it was like everything in the universe suddenly aligned. His mouth moved against yours in soft, perfect motions. His hands pulled you closer into him, your bodies molding together like it was meant to be.
When you finally pulled away for breath, he pressed his forehead against yours, a wide grin on his face. “So, about those drinks?”

Teams: Manly's axing after show-stopping game
Tumblr media
The NRL's form player of the year, Tom Trbojevic, is set to make his return for the Sea Eagles after missing round 23 with a facial injury.Last week, Trbojevic was ruled out as a precaution amid conflicting reports the superstar fullback had damaged a pre-existing facial fracture.
Tumblr media
Tom Trbojevic (Getty)While serious injury concerns were put to bed, the Sea Eagles took no chance, resting their talisman who is set to make an emphatic return against the Bulldogs this week.Meanwhile, star teammate Moses Suli has been dropped from Des Hasler's squad despite putting up a stellar man of the match performance last week. Suli has been dropped to reserves, replaced by Brad Parker who slots straight into the centres.

(Getty)Elsewhere, it's tough luck for the Tigers who have the unfortunate task of taking on the Panthers without standout star Adam Doueihi who has been sidelined with a knee injury. To make matters harder for Michael Maguire's men, star winger Brian To'o has made an early return from injury and will line up on Sunday evening.Meanwhile, the Raiders have dumped halfback Sam Williams after back-to-back critical losses to the Storm and Manly.

✨ gidjete & mooney
✨ What kind of aesthetic do they like?
mooney likes a kinda sexy and sophisticated aesthetic, lots of purple/black/sometimes pink and also celestial stuff. he likes to dress nice and look nice even if he spends most of his time running around killing people. he's also very much into mad scientist vibes but that's mostly cos of sunshine ;3c
gidjete doesn't have much of an aesthetic per say but i'd describe him as a hiker/jock - he'd drive a jeep that has like a dozen adventure/hiking/outdoors stickers on it

VIP it is, dear I'd be glad to get in 😉✨
Here's my ticket;
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Facts about myself:
1. I love stargazing, parkour, (3 hour) long walks and free running.
2. My favourite colour is blue and lucky number is 27.
3. I love anything horror related and it takes a lot to make me feel disgusted.
4. I have (professionally diagnosed) maintenance insomnia (to me it causes waking up every hour and a half, and than I cannot easily fall asleep.)
5. I love cats, like, a lot. I carry with myself dry cat food and water all the time just in case if I see a cat somewhere.
Fandom:
My hero academia.
Music taste
Metal, classical, Jazz, hard rock and dubstep.
Of course it is!!💕
I’d match you with Shinsou Hitoshi!
Hitoshi trains all the time with Aizawa that he has a schedule that includes free running and parkour. He loves trying to keep up with you as well as when you two make it into a race. He finds it thrilling to run by your side. Even when the two of you are just walking his love language is quality time so he enjoys getting to know you. He doesn’t really talk much but he’ll ask you questions about yourself or talk about mini stories revolving around training with Aizawa.
He didn’t care much about the color blue, his favorite is purple, but as soon as you mentioned your favorite color he began to see blue in everything and it reminded him of you. After a while he didn’t mind blue so much and it became his second favorite color. He doesn’t really have a lucky number, but whenever he sees 27 he thinks of you.
He will watch horror movies with you and when the two of you watch them together you scare everybody at the fact that there could be a gory scene and neither of you blink. You 100% play that game where you find a really low budget one where you can predict everything to watch and make a list of how you think the death order will turn out and end up cheering for the killer. For you guys it’s like fantasy football.
When both of you can’t sleep (I headcanon Hitoshi to have insomnia too) you end up calling each other, texting funny memes or cuddling until you fall asleep or the sun rises.
Both of you go to cat cafes all the time. You carry cat food and he carries cat treats and you will try to find stray cats to feed. You bond over your love of cats.

Mini blurb:
“Alright so who is it this time?” Shinsou asked, watching the group of teenagers walking into a haunted house. The only light was the tv illuminating the room. You hummed and furrowed your brows at the cast of characters before you until you pointed at one of them. The jock who looked like a frat boy and hated everybody.
“Brad,” you stated causing him to snort. Apparently his name wasn’t Brad but he looked like one so you kept it. He could only shake his head before joining in and renaming the characters you didn’t care about. You snuggled closer to Shinsou as the movie picked up. You weren’t afraid, but enjoyed it when his arm was wrapped around you, pulling you to his chest.
Unfortunately Brad was not the first to go, but it didn’t matter. Both of you basked in each other’s company making fun of the movie together with it’s horrible dialogue and even worse events to the point where the room was filled with nothing but laughter. As the credits rolled the two of you were wiping away tears from your eyes and as you gazed at each other you both never wanted the night to end.
I hope this was okay and if you want me to change anything lmk!!

Watch the new official video for The Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun"
youtube
Today is the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' "Abbey Road" album and to celebrate, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and their collaborators have released a new video for "Here Comes The Sun." From a statement:
The "Here Comes The Sun" music video welcomes the viewer into Abbey Road Studios' Studio Two, where The Beatles famously recorded most of Abbey Road, to experience a unique and moving sunrise above the band's instruments and gear. Working closely with Apple Corps Ltd., the video is directed by Trunk Animation's director team Alasdair + Jock (Alasdair Brotherston and Jock Mooney) and produced by Trunk's Maria Manton. The video's sun centerpiece was filmed as it was meticulously crafted on-set in Abbey Road's Studio Two. The video features photos from the Apple Corps archive, and photos and footage shot by Linda McCartney supplied by Paul McCartney.

Lucy Goes to Vegas
S3;E17~ January 18, 1965
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Synopsis
When Lucy and Viv win an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas, they haven’t got any spending money, so Lucy decides to disguise herself as a wealthy heiress in order to get comped into the shows. When she’s pressed into gambling by a Texas oil tycoon, she makes a windfall for him – but not for herself.
Regular Cast
Lucille Ball (Lucy Carmichael), Vivian Vance (Vivian Bagley)
Gale Gordon (Theodore J. Mooney), Jimmy Garrett (Jerry Carmichael), Ralph Hart (Sherman Bagley) and Candy Moore (Chris Carmichael) do not appear in this episode.
Guest Cast
Jim Davis (Mr. Cardenas, below right) is probably best remembered for playing Jock Ewing on “Dallas” for which he was posthumously nominated for an Emmy Award in 1981.  Most of his 179 screen credits were in Westerns. This is his only appearance opposite Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
Dick Winslow (Hotel Clerk, above left) appeared in the films Thousands Cheer (1940) and Easy To Wed (1943) with Lucille Ball. This is the first of his two appearances on the series. He also did two episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
Tumblr media
Robert S. Carson (Mr. Kelstrom, above right) was a busy Canadian-born character actor making the second of his six appearances on the series. He also made five appearances on “Here’s Lucy.”
Tumblr media
Hollis Morrison (Chauffeur) made his screen debut as a Party Guest in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961). This is his only appearance with Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
Gary Goldaper (Pit Boss, above left) was better known as Gary Morton or Mr. Lucille Ball. Goldaper was his birth name. He previously was billed under his professional name in “Lucy Takes Up Golf” (S2;E17). Before meeting and marrying Lucille Ball in 1961, he was a comedian who worked the famed ‘Borscht Belt’ in the Catskills Mountains. At her request, Morton gave up his nightclub career and became a producer of “The Lucy Show.” Morton also served as a warm-up comic for the show’s studio audience. In early episodes of the series, his loud guffaw can be heard on the laugh track. He will make two more appearances on the show as well as three appearances on “Here’s Lucy.” Morton passed away in 1999.
Tumblr media
Sid Gould (Tourist at the Slot Machine) made more than 45 appearances on “The Lucy Show,” all as background characters. He also did 40 episodes of “Here’s Lucy.” Gould (born Sydney Greenfader) was Lucille Ball’s cousin by marriage to Gary Morton (born Gary Goldaper). Gould was married to Vanda Barra (aka Mrs. Sid Gould), who also appeared on “The Lucy Show” starting in 1967, as well as on “Here’s Lucy.”
Tumblr media
Virginia Barbour (Waitress) only has two screen credits on her resume; this episode, and “Lucy’s Mother-in-Law” (ILL S4;E3) on “I Love Lucy”, where she played assistant to mind reader Professor Bonanova.  She was married to Louis Nicoletti, who played a dealer in this episode.
Brenda Howard (Waitress) aka Breena Howard appeared with Lucille Ball in the 1963 film Critic’s Choice.
Howard has her back to the camera during her brief scene.
Tumblr media
The casino dealers and croupiers are played by:
Jimmy Ames appeared with Lucille Ball in The Long, Long Trailer in 1953.  This is his penultimate screen credit.
Louis A. Nicoletti was an integral part of the Desilu family working behind the scene and on screen on “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.”  This is the last of his three credited appearances on “The Lucy Show” but in 1966 he becomes the show’s assistant director, a job he also did for two seasons of “Here’s Lucy.”  He was married to Virginia Barbour, who plays a waitress in this episode.
Larry Dean was a mime who specialized in playing a robot. He also did this on episodes of “Lost in Space” and “Bewitched.”  He previously played the mechanical butler in Bigelow’s store window in “Lucy and the Ceramic Cat” (S3;E17). He returns to “The Lucy Show” in “Lucy and the Robot” (S4;E23), as well as playing non-mechanical characters here and in one more episode.
Bob Harris was a Hollywood stuntman making his only appearance on “The Lucy Show.”
Douglas Deane (Casino Patron, below left) only made a dozen screen appearances in his career, including one more episode of “The Lucy Show.”
Tumblr media
Carole Cook (Casino Patron, above center) was last seen as Thelma Green in “Lucy Enters a Baking Contest” (S2;28), a part she played in four other episodes.  She was a protege of Lucille Ball’s during the Desilu Playhouse years. Although she was born as Mildred Cook, Ball suggested she take the name Carole, in honor of Lucy’s great friend, Carole Lombard. Cook also went on to appear in five episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
Bennett Green (Casino Patron, above right) makes his first credited appearance on “The Lucy Show,” but was an important member of the Desilu family, having served as Desi Arnaz’s camera and lighting stand-in throughout “I Love Lucy,” as well as making occasional appearances on camera.  He will make half a dozen more appearances on the series.
Tumblr media
Some of the uncredited casino patrons are played by:
Paul Bradley makes the third of his six appearances on “The Lucy Show” in various roles. He will also be seen in two episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
Ralph Brooks made four films with Lucille Ball between 1940 and 1956.  This is his only series appearance.
Jack Clinton was a background player who appeared in many Westerns. This is his only series appearance.
George DeNormand had appeared in three films with Lucille Ball from 1937 to 1963. This is the second of his many appearances on “The Lucy Show” and “Here’s Lucy.”
Georgia Holt, mother of superstar Cher, appeared as a fashion model in “Lucy Gets a Paris Gown” (ILL S5;E20). A frequent background player on “The Lucy Show,” she will also be seen as a fur model in “Lucy and Pat Collins” (S5;E11). In the above photo, she is in purple.
Sam Harris was born in Australia in 1877 and did a dozen films with Lucille Ball before appearing in the audience of Over the Tea Cups in “Ethel’s Birthday” (ILL S4;E8) and playing a subway passenger in “Lucy and the Loving Cup” (ILL S6;E12). In between, he was a wedding guest in Lucy and Desi’s film Forever Darling (1956). He was in the airport when “The Ricardos Go to Japan” in 1959. He went on to do several more episodes of “The Lucy Show,” the last being “My Fair Lucy” (S3;E20), a parody of My Fair Lady, a film he had also been in as an extra!
Monty O'Grady was first seen with Lucille Ball in The Long, Long Trailer (1953), and played a passenger on the S.S. Constitution in “Second Honeymoon” (ILL S5;E14). He was at the airport when “The Ricardos Go to Japan” (1959). He made a dozen appearances on the series and a half dozen more on “Here’s Lucy.”
Judith Woodbury makes the fourth of her more than 20 (mostly) uncredited appearances on “The Lucy Show.” She also appeared in several episodes of “Here’s Lucy.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This episode was filmed on November 12, 1964. That same day, Lucy, Gary, Lucie, and Desi Jr. all were seen on (a previously recorded) installment of “Password,” a game show Lucy dearly loved.
Tumblr media
This episode was originally aired on Danny Kaye’s birthday. Kaye and Lucille Ball were both born in 1911.
Tumblr media
As the episode opens, Lucy and Viv are discovered sitting in the lobby of a swanky Las Vegas Hotel, although we soon discover that they are really sleeping at a “crummy motel down the street.”  In 1975, Lucy Collins travels to Las Vegas’s MGM Grand in “Lucy Gets Lucky” (above), although we soon learn she is actually sleeping at a budget motel nearby.
Tumblr media
Lucy and Viv are in Las Vegas with just $5.50 spending money. Adjusting for inflation, that would be like only having $45 today. Viv doesn’t want Lucy to gamble with the money, but it saving it to give to Mr. Krause, the butcher, to buy sweepstakes tickets. Mr. Krause was seen in “Lucy and the Plumber” (S3;E2) played by Tom G. Lindner. Sweepstakes tickets likely means The Irish Sweepstakes, an early form of lottery – another type of gambling, although Viv doesn’t seem to realize it.
Tumblr media
Lucy won the trip to Las Vegas for being the one millionth customer through the door at Bigelow’s Department Store. Hopefully, Lucy entered the store through the front doors, and not the transom, which she did when she broke in during the previous episode “Lucy and the Ceramic Cat” (S3;E16, above), the series’ first mention of the store. Bigelow’s was named after a real-life Jamestown NY department store. Lucille Ball applied for a job there as a youth, but was rejected by owner Fred Bigelow. His cat is discussed on “I Love Lucy” in “The Passports” (ILL S5;E11) in 1955.
Tumblr media
This is only the second time the characters are seen traveling outside of New York State. The first was in “Lucy Visits the White House” (S1;E25, above) where den mothers Lucy and Viv chaperoned cub scouts to Washington DC. Generally, the characters have stayed in or around fictional Danfield, with occasional trips to places such as nearby Ridgebury (also fictional), Manhattan, and Albany (in “Lucy’s Barbershop Quartet” (S1;E19).
Tumblr media
If the small bank of slot machines looks antique compared to today’s models, consider that it was in 1963 that Bally Manufacturing invented ‘Money Honey’ (above inset photo), the first slot machine powered by electricity. After that, slot machines began to ‘light up’ and produce various sound effects. At first, many Nevada casinos were hesitant to buy the new machines, largely due to quality concerns and the expense of replacing their entire stock at once. The slot machine Sid Gould plays in the episode (above left) is a 1933 Extraordinary, manufactured by the Mills Novelty Company. Today, slot machines operate primarily on paper currency and rarely pay out coins, but distribute vouchers for later redemption. The machines that were once nicknamed 'one armed bandits’ due to their single pull lever, are now primarily operated by push buttons and touch screens.
Tumblr media
“I Love Lucy” has inspired several slot machines, both in brick and mortar casinos and online.
Tumblr media
Viv says that they got to hear Frank Sinatra – through the air conditioning vent in the hotel powder room. Sinatra was a fixture in Vegas, and his name was seen on a marquee in a “Here’s Lucy” episode set in the city. A clip of him in the film Guys and Dolls was inserted into the MGM executive show in “Lucy and the Dummy” (ILL S5;E3) but due to copyright issues, the clip was never repeated and has been edited out of the print, even on the restored DVDs. Prior to that he was mentioned in “Don Juan is Shelved” (ILL S4;E21). Sinatra later balked about the Desilu series “The Untouchables” as promoting stereotypes about Italian-Americans and the Mafia.
Tumblr media
In order to get comped in to the shows, Lucy pretends to a be rich gambler named Pamela Pettebone and Viv masquerades as her pal, Penelope Poopendorf. The name 'Pamela’ was also the name of Lucy Ricardo’s heroine in “The Perils of Pamela,” (above) the play she wrote for the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League in “Lucy Writes a Play” (ILL S1;E17).
Tumblr media
The surname 'Pettebone’ was given to the haughty woman from the Society Matron’s League in “Pioneer Women” (ILL S1;E25) played by Florence Bates (above).
Tumblr media
VIV (as PENELOPE): “Ever since we were little girls, she always wanted me to play Jacks.” MR. CARDENAS: “Well, all little girls play Jacks.” VIV (as PENELOPE): “Jacks or better?”
Jacks (the children’s game) is of ancient origin and involves bouncing a rubber ball while also scooping up small objects known as the jacks. The schoolyard game was associated with little girls at a time when more physical games that boys played were not deemed appropriate for young ladies. Viv’s pun here relies on it being compared with the Jacks in a deck of playing cards, a staple of casino gambling.
Tumblr media
To convince Mr. Cardenas that she’s actually an heiress addicted to gambling, Lucy shuffles the crackers, rolls the sugar cubes, deals the toast, and spins the condiment caddy!
LUCY (as PAMELA): “Bet you a thousand it stops on the ketchup!”
Tumblr media
MR. KELSTROM: “Miss Pettebone, was your father a wildcatter?” LUCY (as PAMELA): “A wildcatter? Well, not while mother was watching!”
Lucille Ball played a wildcatter named Wildcat Jackson in the Broadway musical Wildcat (1960), a musical about a woman in 1912 Centavo City looking to strike it rich with a gusher.
Tumblr media
Viv says Lucy’s green feathered hat looks like a fresh crop of crab grass. In the opening moments of the episode we learn that their outfits were part of their prize for being Bigelow’s one millionth customer. Lucy’s green sequined dress and feathered hat are reminiscent of her costume for Sally Sweet in “The Diet” (ILL S1;E3), although TV viewers only saw it in black and white!
Tumblr media
Lucy’s ‘crab grass chapeau’ turns up again (without the dress) on a Hollywood starlet when “Lucy Goes To A Hollywood Premiere” (S4;E20) in 1966.
Casino Callbacks!
Tumblr media
The pink floral outfit worn by Carole Cook was actually created for Lucille Ball by Edith Head for the film Critic’s Choice (1963).  Lucy famously handed down her wardrobe to her friends. [Thanks to the Lucy Lounge for this fashion tip!]
Tumblr media
LUCY (as PAMELA): “Give me a thousand dollars in chips.”  VIV (as PENELOPE): “No, Pamela!  Remember what happened in Monte Carlo?”
Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz had extraordinary luck (much to their chagrin) at the roulette tables in “Lucy Goes to Monte Carlo” (ILL S5;E25). Just as in this episode of “The Lucy Show”, Lucy wins big then looses it all in one careless bet.
Tumblr media
Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz traveled to Las Vegas in “Lucy Hunts Uranium,” a 1958 episode of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.” They don’t visit the casino, however, being too busy hunting uranium with Fred MacMurray. Besides Ball and Vance, Louis A. Nicoletti, who plays a croupier in 1965, was also in this 1958 episode. Also, in “Lucy Meets Orson Welles” (ILL S6;E3), Ricky Ricardo says he caught Welles’ nightclub act while he was in Las Vegas. This is not shown on the series and it is never discussed just how or when Ricky went to Vegas.
Tumblr media
On November 1, 1959, Lucy and Ricky Ricardo joined ‘Mr. Television’ Milton Berle at the El Rancho Vegas as part of an NBC “Sunday Showcase: Milton Berle Special”. The entire action of the special took place in Las Vegas.
Sin City Fast Forward!
Tumblr media
In “Lucy and Wayne Newton” (HL S2;E22) in 1970, the Carter Family drove to Vegas to see the Strip, but ended up at Wayne Newton’s nearby ranch.
Tumblr media
In “Lucy Gets Lucky” (1975), one of the Lucille Ball Specials, Lucy Collins travels to Las Vegas to see Dean Martin. The special was shot on location at the MGM Grand.
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball returned to Las Vegas with this remarkably life-like figure at Madam Tussaud’s, Las Vegas.
Blooper Alerts?
Tumblr media
Not a blooper exactly, but an opportunity lost. "Lucy Goes To Vegas” might have started the show with a stock footage establishing shot or title screen reading “Las Vegas” to indicate the unusual location. Although establishing shots and location footage are rare on the series, they were not unknown. Also, although Desilu had previously sought out partnerships with hotels, casinos, car manufacturers, and other business on “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour,” there is no specific casino named mentioned when Lucy and Viv are praising the luxury hotel they are visiting.

“Lucy Goes to Vegas” rates 4 Paper Hearts out of 5

The Loser You See
Summary: I present you the Gotham High School!AU no one asked for. Unfortunately I couldn’t fit in all the characters into this chapter, but if people want more of this, I will definitely write more. | Read on AO3
Rated PG-13, warnings for severe bullying
Big thanks to Laura for beta reading!
“And what exactly is that supposed to be?” Oswald asks the surly-looking lunch lady after she’s dumped something indefinable onto his tray.
“Lunch,” she states with a blank expression, before averting her eyes and focusing on the next student in line behind him.
“Thanks a lot,” Oswald scoffs before walking off with a scowl on his face.
His stomach gives a small grumble as if to lament the fact it would most likely - no definitely - stay empty until Oswald is getting back home in the afternoon.
As he’s on his way to find a quiet and sheltered place to sit, Oswald hears a booming voice calling out to him, breaking through the loud chatter of the other students like a thunder.
“Hey! Hey Cobblepot!”
Oswald’s heart drops. No. Not again. His whole body is stiff, almost frozen as he slowly turns around, spotting a familiar square-built jock.
“What is it, Butch?” Oswald nearly spits the name out, gripping his tray so hard his knuckles are turning white.
“Hey dude, aren’t you supposed to eat fish?” Butch asks, flashing a grin at him. “I mean, penguins do eat fish, right?!”
Butch and his brainless goons erupt into laughter.
Oswald resists the urge to roll his eyes. “Very observant of you, Butch,” he drawls, feigning a confident smile. He wants to add a long list of insults or compliment Butch on the ability to even form such complex thoughts, but he knows it would probably end up in him waking up in the hospital afterwards.
“Hey Penguin, if you want, we can take you to the zoo later after school, so that you can reunite with your family!” Butch continues, grunting out a laugh whilst turning around to get his dose of approval from his pack of idiot friends.
Oswald observes them, a mixture of shame and anger seething low in his belly. He presses his lips together, inhaling sharply through his nose. He tries appear as unfazed as possible at the remark. He can’t even count how many times he’s had to hear these absolutely stupid jokes at this point.
“You’re the ones that belong in the zoo,” Oswald mutters under his breath, green eyes flickering with sheer hatred. He considers just turning his back on them and walking away. However, the last time, this decision did earn him a black eye and an almost broken-nose.
“Don’t you dare turn your back on me ever again, Penguin!”
Unfortunately, Butch’s attention averts back to him in that very moment. “But you know what?” the jock says, now looking right back at Oswald with an obnoxious grin. “Not even those animals would want to have you around. No one does. Why don’t you just kill yourself already, dude? Everyone’s waiting for that anyways.”
The mocking laughter that follows cuts right through the air - and through Oswald like a dozen invisible knives.
Yes, that one really hits a spot. Damn. Biting his lip, Oswald tries to remain as visibly unfazed as possible, despite the familiar tingly sensation in his nose and the burning in his eyes.
Every single time Oswald tries to get out of these encounters unscarred, he fails. What starts with him rolling his eyes and pretending to be unbothered, always ends with him fighting back tears and the urge to throw up from sheer humiliation mixed with fear.
But maybe that’s it for today? Maybe, Butch has reached his peak of torturing him for this day at least. Oswald’s knees are wobbly as he shifts them a little, preparing himself to hurry away once Butch has officially dismissed him.
“Hey guys, you wanna see him walk like a real penguin?”
Squeezing his eyes shut, Oswald has to stifle a groan. Of course not.
By now, several students have turned their heads, their silent stares weighing down on Oswald’s shoulders and making him feel even smaller.
And more alone.
“Come on, Cobblepot. Do it. Show us how a penguin walks!” Butch shouts at him, accompanied by the cheers and whistles of the other jocks.
Oswald’s insides twist, the quick pulse of his heart echoing in his ears. What is he supposed to do now? The muscles in his jaw tremble as he rapidly blinks back tears. Oswald wants to defy. So badly.
But the last time he’s done so, Butch had threatened him with a knife to his throat.
“Hey!” Butch’s voice booms, making even more heads turn. “Are you deaf? Walk, Penguin!”
Really, Oswald can no longer bear the shame of coming home with bruises and ripped clothes. His mom is already going through enough.
So, just like every other day, Oswald swallows his pride.
His cheeks are burning as he drops his head in defeat. Holding his tray with shaking hands, he slowly turns both of his feet outward. When he takes the first humiliating step, a single tear rolls down his cheek, and more follow as he begins to waddle around.
He hates crying, hates showing weakness. But in the end, the shame weighing down on him is too much to handle.
It’s pointless trying to drown out the roaring laughter echoing in the cafeteria, it’s so loud that it’s ringing in his ears. Oswald is sure that some students have even taken their phones out by now and are recording him, already snapchatting this most recent display of his ongoing humiliation to their friends.
“Stop it!” a sharp female voice cuts through the air, silencing the room within seconds.
Oswald lifts his head, not even bothering to hide his tear-streaked face.
It’s his music teacher, Ms. Mooney.
He almost drops his tray, relief washing over him so quick he can barely comprehend it.
It’s quiet besides the sounds of hushed whispers and the clicking of heels against the floor.
“What is going on in here?” Ms. Mooney almost snarls, crossing her arms as she comes to a stop before Butch, who has seemingly shrunk a size or two in the meantime.
“Uh, we just - we just had some fun,” the jock stammers, squirming in his seat.
“Oh really,” she drawls, cocking an eyebrow. “Didn’t seem like that much fun for him,” she says with a nod to Oswald, who just blinks and sniffles in response.
Beads of sweat are beginning to form Butch’s forehead, his round face turning pink - and Oswald thinks of how much he’s resembling a pink marshmallow. “I- um, didn’t know-”
“Oh, please, Mr. Gilzean,” Ms. Mooney interrupts him sharply, pursing her lips and glaring at the boy with a reproachful look. “You were very well-aware of what you were doing to Mr. Cobblepot here.”
Butch furrows his brows, pressing his lips to a thin line as his face grows even more red.
It’s worth admiring, Oswald thinks with a faint smile tugging on his lips. Despite being a rather petite woman, Ms. Mooney always owns the scene, filling up the room with an almost overbearing and intimidating presence.
“I expect to see you in my classroom after your lessons are over for today, Mr. Gilzean.”
At this, Butch’s eyes grow wide. “But I got football practice!” he replies, sounding like a petulant child before seeming to remember whom he’s talking to. “Uh, I mean,” he clears his throat, shifting in his seat, before sputtering out a quick, “I will be there, Ms. Mooney.”
“Good. And don’t be late,” she says, an unspoken warning lingering behind her words.
Oswald watches the whole scene in awe, feeling a little light-headed even. Much to his luck, everyone else seems to have averted their focus back to their lunch by now, faint chatter slowly filling the halls of the cafeteria again.
Ms. Mooney walks over to him then, her expression immediately turning soft.
Oswald’s heart swells a little, flashing her a quick grateful smile. “Thank you so much, Ms. Mooney.”
For a moment, his teacher just eyes him thoroughly, before speaking in a hushed tone.
“This wasn’t the first time, was it?”
Oswald senses a bit of shame welling up inside of him again.
“Uh, well- I-,” he stammers, looking down. A soft sigh escapes him and he shakes his head. There is no point in lying to her, anyways. “No, it wasn’t,” he utters, staring down and suddenly finding himself oddly fascinated by the texture of that weird mushy pile that’s supposed to be his lunch for today.
“Oswald,” Ms Mooney says, placing an arm on his arm, causing him to lift his head back up again. “You know you can report him to the principal if he’s bullying you.”
Nibbling at his bottom lip, Oswald glances around nervously, suddenly afraid someone might eavesdrop on their conversation.
After all, Butch has threatened to kill him should he ever dare reporting him to the principal.
The fine hairs on his neck stand up at the memory of that particular threat. So Oswald just shakes his head, feigning a smile. “I’ll be fine, Ms. Mooney. Thank you. Besides, I think you catching him red-handed today left quite the impression on him,” he says, huffing out a short laugh.
Ms. Mooney just quirks an eyebrow, pursing her lips. “You know it was sheer luck I caught him today. Next time, I might not be around.”
She’s right. Oswald knows that. Of course, he does. He usually isn’t that lucky to have a teacher around when Butch and his goons jumps on him. Or if they are, they just don’t care.
Well, except for Ms. Mooney, obviously.
So, today’s been a rare exception.
Ms. Mooney gives his arm a little squeeze. “All I can say is that you should really stop sticking to yourself, boy. Go and find some friends. It will be good for you.”
Oswald is almost glad his stomach grumbles again in that moment, giving him an excuse to quickly change the topic.
“I guess, I should...,” he nods to the mushy brown pile on his tray, “...eat.”
Ms. Mooney grimaces a little at the sight of what’s on his tray, shooting him a pitiful smile. “Alright then. You know where to find me, when you want to talk. Now do me a favor and go sit with that boy over there. Like I said, make some friends.”
Oswald blinks, turning his head to where his teacher is looking.
There he sees him: Edward Nygma.
The one single person who’s actually even further down the bottom of the social food-chain at their school.
No fucking way.
However, there really is no way he can deny Ms. Mooney’s request, especially not when she’s standing mere feet away from him, her piercing eyes boring into him.
“Go,” she insists again, giving him a gentle push this time.
So, Oswald swallows his pride again, for the second time today.
