Really disappointed to hear about ablaze publishing allowing Jinba (Centaurs) to be translated with ai, which has shown majorly incorrect details and stiff writing 😔 I had just found out it had been licensed in english too only to discover a twitter thread about it when trying to find ryo sumiyoshi's account.

Story:

An epic fantasy adventure set in an alternate medieval Japan, where humans co-exist with the mythic half man/half horse beasts known as centaurs, or “jinba”. The centaur race was long revered as deities in ancient times; however, with the advent of the sengoku (warring states) period, humans started to enslave and use them for military purposes due to their speed, stamina, and ability to communicate in human language. Centaurs living in the plains were rapidly subjugated; in contrast, large numbers of centaurs living deep in the mountains were still free due to their relative isolation.

A wild and proud warrior jinba from the mountains named Matsukaze, known as the redheaded rock tiger, is caught while protecting his son. He is traded to a feudal lord and taken to his land. There he meets another centaur, named Kohibari, whose village was burned down as a child. He is a tame centaur, who had his arms amputated when he was captured, and has given up hope of escaping his human captors. If they can get over their differences and work together, they just might be able to return to the wilds as free centaurs."

alkdjfklsjafkdl this isn't cursed this is actually really cute. Unlikely, but not impossible to happen in some other timeline.

Then again, I'm being haunted by images of them cuddling while Mikoto talks about her latest research and Aryaille is dozing off happily enjoying the sound of her voice. And the opportunities for Aryaille to be protective of her during the Bozja quests... (for the purpose of this exercise we are ignoring Mikoto's canon crush on Cid)

Mikoto would need a stepstool to kiss Aryaille (she's 4'8" and Aryaille is 6'3") Pocket sized girlfriend full of courage and conviction who she can bring around the world for research and just enjoying each new place

reasons why mikoto jinba should be in dawntrail:

* she is THE foremost scholar on auracite (now that moenbryda is dead) which i think could be very important in 7.0

* she was a major player in both the IVALICE RAIDS and BOZJA, and both of those might be incredibly relevant if the mystery girl on the poster is princess ashe

* she is A MEMBER OF THE STUDENTS OF BALDESION according to encyclopedia eorzea 2

* despite being in the same city as her dealing with aether related quandries for a large swath of endwalker, we did not see her once. she would've needed to simply walk down the street to be in the background of the giant gathering firewood cutscene. she is mentioned one (1) time by a random npc who is annoyed his friend is simping after professor jinba (correct)

* she has ECHOES INTO THE FUTURE isn't that COOL AS SHIT i want this in msq. especially i want this all up in whatever solution nine is about

* there is no auri representation in the main cast and there should be

* she was also very close to moenbryda and urianger informed her of moenbryda's death and mikoto feels incredibly guilty about it because she enabled the research into white auracite. i want mikoto and urianger to interact on screen i think it would be healing. ALSO i cannot stress enough mikoto and moenbryda made a synthetic alien soul jail rock can we talk about that

* you want her to be given the g'raha side treatment SOOOOOOO bad. she's the only character i can think of besides maybe jessie jaye who has been in two major pieces of side content but isn't in msq at all

* she's a nerd i thought you loved nerds here

“There you are!” Mel shouted down the hall of the Studium as Mikoto was locking the lecture hall door, “Corin, this is Mikoto, she’s going to be helping us today.”

“Why hello, my name is Archon Mikoto Jinba, yes” Mikoto replied, her expression very confused, “And what exactly will be helping you with today Mel?”

“Oh, right” Me fished around in her bag until she finally pulled out a sizable crystal not unlike the one she and Mikoto used to trek through Cid’s memories, “I wanted the help of someone who’s done this before, so you seemed like the best bet.”

I’m falling, falling, falling.

All around me I can see scattered memories, each a pinprick in the aether of… my soul? I guess this would be my soul? 

I tumble faster, below me an ever approaching canopy of trees.

“Are you comfortable?” Mikoto asked, settling into her chair. It had been pulled from behind her desk and next to the small couch that she had pushed against the tiny wall of her office some time ago before forgetting it was there. “I want to make sure you're relaxed for this.”

Corin nodded, shifting slightly as a lump dug into her shoulder. “Yeah, I think so” she muttered in return, more than a little embarrassed that she and Mel were doing this for her. She gave a weak smile.

“I’m ready to start”

I see my mother run down and butchered by the shadowy monsters. She screams in her final moments as she watches her husband fall trying to save her. My mother and father…

Both dead in an instant.

They turn to me, I’m next. I slam my eyes shut and wait for the end that never comes…

It’s standing there, its ball jointed hand outstretched in offering. Behind it is a woman.

And I remember…

“I would prefer if you two would spend the night here tonight” Mikoto whispered over a cup of tea, her voice thick with worry, “I want to keep her monitored in case there are any deleterious effects on her mind…”

Mel sighed and pushed her tea aside. “Yeah, I’ll talk to Ojika.” She kicked herself, cursing her own name for this stupid experiment. “I feel so stupid for this” she whispered, heavy with guilt.

One room over, Corin sobbed into her pillow as the memories assaulted her mind. Over and over she witnessed her parents dying, her life in Amdapor, the night she was abandoned…

“I’m sorry…”
