Marvel en DC crossovers

In de VS verschijnen binnenkort 2 nieuwe omnibussen met daarin alle crossovers tussen Marvel en DC. Voor je je naar de winkel rept: de kans is groot dat je best wel wat van die verhalen al in je Nederlandstalige comic collectie hebt zitten 😉. Een overzicht 👉

De eerste crossovers

Midden jaren ‘70 hadden Marvel en DC voor de eerste keer samengewerkt om de filmspecial van ‘Wizard of Oz’ uit te geven. Dat zorgde ervoor dat beide concurrenten tijdelijk wat vriendelijker tegenover elkaar stonden en er nieuwe mogelijkheden ontstonden. Op die manier kwam de eerste ‘Superman versus The Amazing Spider-Man’ crossover tot stand. En goed nieuws, die verscheen in 1976 ook in het Nederlands als losse ‘Superman en Spinneman’ album bij Classics.

Enkele jaren later zou in de VS nog een ‘Batman verus Hulk’ verschijnen. Nog in de jaren ‘80 volgden dan plannen voor een Justice League/Avengers en een New Teen Titans/X-Men crossover. Die laatste verscheen toen inderdaad. Op de eerste bleek het door allerlei problemen uiteindelijk nog 20 jaar wachten. Helaas zijn deze nooit in België en Nederland verschenen. Al is er misschien nog hoop om deze uitgaven ooit in de DC Classics reeks van Dark Dragon Books te zien? 

Wat we in die periode wél nog kregen was de ontmoeting tussen Superman en Spiderman uit de ‘Marvel Treasury Edition featuring Superman and Spider-Man 1’. Deze fraaie strip door Jim Shooter, Marv Wolfman en John Buscema werd één van de allereerste uitgaven van Juniorpress. En alsof dat nog niet bijzonder genoeg was, verscheen dit album op een reuzegroot formaat. Helaas ook wel met een slappe kaft, waardoor het zeer moeilijk is om hier een exemplaar van te vinden dat nog in perfecte staat is. 🙈

De jaren ‘90

In de loop van de jaren ‘90 verschenen er nog een heleboel crossovers tussen Marvel en DC. Hier kregen we helaas geen ‘Darkseid/Galactus’, ‘Green Lantern/Silver Silver’, ‘Batman/Daredevil’ en ‘Batman/Captain America’. 

Gelukkig verschenen in de Batman Special serie van Baldakijn Boeken wél enkele fijne confrontaties:

In Batman Special 24 werden beide delen van de Batman/Punisher crossover opgenomen. Het eerste deel is best de moeite, met fraai tekenwerk van John Romita Jr. In het tweede deel zien we AzBats het opnemen tegen de Punisher. Net iets minder leuk vind ik zelf.

De dubbele confrontatie tussen Batman en Spiderman werd opgenomen in Batman Special 25 en 28. In beide nummers mooi afgelikt tekenwerk van de vaste tekenaars van beide helden uit die periode: Mark Bagley en Graham Nolan. 

Amalgam

Het hoogtepunt van de Marvel/DC crossovers is natuurlijk de Amalgam periode. Wat begon als een ‘gewone’ crossover met ‘DC versus Marvel’ kwam tot een hoogtepunt met het ontstaan van een nieuw universum waarin helden van beide uitgevers samensmolten tot nieuwe personages. Wat dacht je van een kruising tussen Batman en Wolverine als Dark Claw? Of Superman en Captain America als Super Soldier? Je merkt het, deze uitgaven staan bol van de jaren ‘90 gekheid. Maar het is wel nog steeds vermakelijk. Extra leuk is dat het grootste deel van deze comics ook in het Nederlands zijn verschenen in de Juniorpress serie ‘DC Versus Marvel’.

DaBoii & The Mekanix - Friendly Reminder (feat. J-Stalin).

Woa, er is een The Mekanix x DaBoii album uit? En 4Rax doet maar één hook? Dat is nog eens goed nieuws! Tegelijkertijd leveren niet alle rappers evenveel vuur als The Mekanix doen (zie bijv. het wat teleurstellende 2Legit waar Offset Jim op zijn meest half-slapends klinkt op een hele toffe beat), maar Stand On It heeft potentie. Juist ook omdat 4Rax wat fun lijkt te hebben met de hook. Juist van DaBoii had ik gehoopt dat hij all over the beats was, maar het lijken af en toe alsof er iets te veel adempauzes zijn.

The Mekanix - Movin' (feat. J-Stalin, Lijah, 4 rAx & Junneonnabeat)

Tegelijkertijd hebben ze ook een eigen solo album. Helaas lijkt daar hetzelfde voor op te gaan. Ondanks in potentie toffe featurings zoals Clyde Carson, Shoddy Boi (die wel heel degelijk spit: they tell me do some shit for the clubs, but they probably gonna sell drugs to this shit), Lil Blood, Iamsu en Lil bean etc. zijn het vooral de beats die de show stelen.

PALU: Hervormingen in het onderwijs moeten radicaal anders

Afgelopen woensdag heeft in het centrum van de PALU een discussie over de toekomst van het onderwijs plaatsgevonden. Het Beleidsforum Volkseducatie heeft een paneldiscussie georganiseerd, waar duidelijk is geworden dat de hervormingen die in de afgelopen twee decennia zijn doorgevoerd niet meer dan onafgemaakte pogingen zijn geweest. Deze kennelijk goedbedoelde pogingen hebben gefaald vanwege het vertrekpunt van beleidsmakers met ���partij politieke” motieven voorop, wat heeft gemaakt dat de onderwijssector momenteel in een grote chaos is terechtgekomen. Verward en gedemotiveerd De inleider Robert Peneux gaf een goed beeld van meerdere verkeerde zienswijzen op basis waarvan hervormingen zijn doorgevoerd. Met heel veel voorbeelden maakte hij duidelijk dat van alles misgaat in het onderwijs, omdat beleidsmakers ervan uitgaan dat zij alleen verantwoordelijk zijn om hervormingen in ons onderwijs door te voeren. Ook blijven deze hervormingen stranden, omdat alleen wijzigingen in de inhoud en lesmethoden worden doorgevoerd, zonder te beseffen dat ook de opleidingen van leraren mee moeten veranderen. Al deze pogingen tot hervorming hebben er toe geleid dat vandaag de dag niet alleen onderwijzers, maar ook leerlingen en ouders van leerlingen verward en daardoor gedemotiveerd zijn over de richting waarin onze jongeren opgevoed moeten worden. Veel deskundigheid In de paneldiscussie met de deskundigen Manuella Veldkamp en Muriel Hoepel, werd duidelijk dat er erg veel deskundigheid op het ministerie aanwezig is, maar dat het te weinig wordt ingezet in het regeerbeleid. Hoepel benadrukte dat er wel enige vooruitgang is geboekt in de onderwijssector waaronder studie loopbaanbegeleiding en het STEM-onderwijs. "De modernisering van ons onderwijs is mogelijk", gaf Veldkamp aan. Maar al gauw werd duidelijk dat het onderwijs niet is afgestemd op middellang en lange termijn economische doelen, omdat die gewoonweg niet worden ingebracht door de politiek. Als de offshore olieproductie belangrijk zal worden in de komende jaren, hadden allang hervormingen in het onderwijs doorgevoerd moeten worden om te kunnen voldoen aan de toekomstige vraag naar deskundige jongeren voor deze sector. PALU-onderwijshervormingen PALU-voorzitter Jim Hok sloot de drukbezochte paneldiscussie af door de aanwezigen te garanderen dat met de PALU in het bestuur van ons land, de nodige onderwijshervormingen wel degelijk doorgevoerd zullen worden met grote betrokkenheid van de leerkrachten en Surinaamse onderwijsdeskundigen. "Alleen op die manier kunnen wij de opdracht vervullen die het Surinaams volk en haar leiders op zich hebben genomen bij de onafhankelijkheid van Suriname in 1975, namelijk om ons land opnieuw in te richten naar onze eigen belangen en behoeften. Onderwijshervormingen die de toekomst van ons land bepalen, kunnen niet afhangen van toevallige deskundigen uit het buitenland die met ideeën komen die vaak niet passen in de Surinaamse omstandigheden. We zullen met ons allen, samen, een visie moeten formuleren waar we ook met ons onderwijs willen zijn op lang termijn.
