ELVIS PRESLEY, RCA RECORDS ARTIST (Nov. 1955)
The story behind one of my favorite 50's Elvis pictures ♥
November 21, 1955: Elvis Presley at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN. RCA Victor Records purchased Elvis Presley’s recording contract from Sam Phillips (Sun Records) for a then unheard of sum of $35,000.
Here's the full picture: Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis, Bob Neal (his second manager, after Scotty Moore and prior to Colonel Parker) and country music singer Hank Snow at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN, after signing the RCA contract at the Sun Records studio, previously in the same day.
Let's read a bit about the contract, afterwards.
On November 21, Steve Sholes, Ben Starr, Coleman Tily, the Colonel, Tom Diskin, Hank Snow, local RCA distributor Jim Crudgington, and regional rep Sam Esgro all converged on the little Sun studio for the signing of the papers. Colonel Parker came accompanied by a document dated the same day stipulating that out of the 40 percent in combined commissions due the Colonel and Bob Neal (25 percent to the Colonel, 15 percent to Neal), there would be an even split for the duration of Neal's agreement, until March 15, 1956. The buyout agreement itself was a simple two-page document in which Sun Records agreed to tum over all tapes and cease all distribution and sales of previously released recordings as of December 31, 1955, while the managers "do hereby sell, assign and transfer unto RCA all of their right, title and interest in and to" the previously exercised option agreement. The purchase price was $35,000; RCA undertook responsibility for the payment of all back royalties and held Sun Records harmless from any subsequent claims. Out of all this Elvis Presley would get a royalty of 5 percent as opposed to the 3 percent that he was currently receiving from Sun - this amounted to almost two cents more per record sold, which over the course of a million sales would come to about $18,000. In addition, as the result of a co-publishing arrangement that the Colonel had entered into with Hill and Range (who probably contributed substantially themselves toward the purchase price), Elvis would now receive half of the two-cent statutory mechanical fee and half of the two-cent broadcast fee on all new Hill and Range compositions that he recorded, which would be registered through his own publishing company. If at this point he were to start writing songs as well, or, perhaps more pertinently, if he were to start claiming songwriting credit for songs he recorded, a practice going back to time immemorial in the recording industry, he could increase his income by up to another two cents per side. Hill and Range, meanwhile, stood to gain an almost incalculable advantage over their competitors in the field by securing not just an inside track, but what amounted to virtually a right of first refusal from the hottest new singing sensation in the country. After the contract was signed, there was a picture-taking ceremony, with different configurations of the various parties involved. In one Elvis is flanked by the Colonel and Hank Snow, proud partners in Jamboree Attractions, while Bob Neal, to Snow's left, jovially approves; in another Gladys plants a kiss upon her son's cheek and clutches her black handbag as the Colonel pats her on the shoulder and Vernon looks stiffly on. In yet another Sam and Elvis shake hands across RCA attorney Coleman Tily. In all the pictures all the men are beaming - everyone has seemingly gotten exactly what he wanted. After the picture taking a number of the participants dropped by for a brief on-air appearance on Marion Keisker's show in the brand-new WHER studios. "They thought it would be great fun," said Marion, "if they all came over and we announced it. So they all crowded into the little control room, and we did a little four-or-five-way interview, well, not really an interview, just a little chat. And in the course of it, I remember, Hank Snow said, 'I'm very proud this boy made his first appearance on the national scene on my section of the Grand Ole Opry.' And he was being such a pompous ass about it, I couldn't help it, but I said, 'Yes, and I remember, you had to ask him what his name was.' That was a rather tactless thing for me to do." — Excerpt: Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley by Peter Guralnick (1994). Chapter "THE PIED PIPERS: September-November 1955".
OTHER PICTURES FROM THAT DAY - NOV. 21, 1955:
Elvis was 20 years old at the time, which means he was still legally a minor, therefore his father (Vernon Presley) also signed the contract, as his natural guardian, which is why Vernon and Gladys are there that day, in addition to the obvious reason (a big moment for their dear son).
The 1st picture below: the Colonel, Gladys, Elvis and Vernon Presley, H. Coleman Tily III (RCA's attorney) and Bob Neal at Sun Records (and a cropped picture of Elvis and Gladys just because <33); The second picture shows Bob Neal, Sam Phillips and Elvis shaking hands across RCA's attorney H. Coleman Tily III, and Colonel Parker; the third picture shows Elvis and Hank Snow that same day (Note: Elvis wearing a tie pictures were taken after the contract signing at Sun Records. The pictures were taken at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN), and the one after that shows Jim Crudgington (local RCA-Victor representative), Elvis and H. Coleman Tily III at Sun - Nov. 21, 1955.
The first picture in this post (a cropped picture from Nov. 21, 1955, showing just Elvis' angel face) was used as cover for the FTD box "A Boy from Tupelo: The Complete 1953 to 1955 Recordings", released in July 28, 2017 (3 CD & Book Set)

Official Report on The Intransitionalist Chronotopologies of Kenji Siratori (TRS 109)
YOU CANNOT ESCAPE THE INEFFABLE FOREST
youtube
Official Report on The Intransitionalist Chronotopologies of Kenji Siratori: Appendix 8.2.3 is a xenopoetic data/dada anthology that documents the activities of the artist collective The Ministry of Transrational Research into Anastrophic Manifolds. The anthology results from an experimental approach to impersonal literary composition. Similar to surrealist definitions, but on the scale of a technical document, members of the Ministry—poets, musicians, novelists, painters, curators, artists, scientists, philosophers, and physicians—were asked to offer a microfiction, poem, essay, fictional citation, or computer code, in the form of a footnote or annotation to a glitch-generated novel by iconoclastic Japanese artist Kenji Siratori; however, each participant wrote their contribution without any access to or knowledge about the nature of Siratori’s source text. After collecting the contributions, the “footnotes” were each algorithmically linked to an arbitrary word from Siratori’s novel. The result is a work of xenopoetic emergence: a beautifully absurd, alien document scintillating with strange potency. Bringing together algorithmically and AI-generated electronic literature with analogue collage and traditional modes of literary composition, the Ministry refuses to commit solely to digital, automated, or analogue art and instead seeks technological mutualism and a radically alien future for the arts. Accompanied by a groundbreaking original score by electro-acoustic duo Wormwood, the anthology offers the radical defamiliarization and weird worlds of science fiction, but now the strangeness bites back on the level form. Readers should expect to discover strange portals from which new ways of thinking, feeling, and being emerge. A conceptual and experimental anthology, Official Report on The Intransitionalist Chronotopologies of Kenji Siratori inaugurates collective xenopoetic writing and the conceit that the future of art will consist of impersonal acts of material emergence, not personal expression. Consume with caution.

Michael Tozierstranger things/it crossover
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/G0XSlHy by yeahidk434 “Michael. Would you be upset if I told you I wasn’t your mommy?” She had asked. Mike could see how crestfallen she was. Her cheeks were like fresh, ripe apples—all red and shiny. Sweat beaded her forehead as though raindrops lingering on the windows. Her lips were quivering as if an engine was running out of steam in her mouth. Mike didn’t know how to approach the question at first, as though it were a rabid animal you wouldn't get too close or it would bite. But he answered slowly, “I think I’d be sad,” he said, tilting his head slightly to one side. “But that isn’t true, so I dunno,” he shrugged nonchalantly. His father and mother exchanged a worried glance. A glance that made Mike’s tummy turn just a little too much for his comfort. “Why, is something the matter?” Words: 7933, Chapters: 1/1, Language: English Fandoms: Stranger Things (TV 2016), IT (Movies - Muschietti) Rating: Mature Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Categories: F/F, F/M, Gen, M/M Characters: Richie Tozier, Richie Tozier's Sister, Wentworth Tozier, Maggie Tozier, Mike Wheeler, Ben Hanscom, Beverly Marsh, Bill Denbrough, Audra Phillips, Joey Kim, Will Byers, Stanley Uris, Mike Hanlon, Maxine "Max" Mayfield, Lucas Sinclair, Dustin Henderson, Karen Wheeler, Ted Wheeler, Holly Wheeler, Joyce Byers, Eleven | Jane Hopper Relationships: Richie Tozier & Mike Wheeler, Ben Hanscom/Beverly Marsh, Bill Denbrough/Audra Phillips, Joey Kim & The Party, Will Byers/Mike Wheeler, Will Byers & Stanley Uris, Holly Wheeler & Mike Wheeler, Robin Buckley/Nancy Wheeler, Karen Wheeler & Mike Wheeler, Suzie Bingham/Dustin Henderson, Eddie Kaspbrak/Richie Tozier, The Losers Club (IT) & Mike Wheeler, Mike Hanlon & Mike Wheeler, Maggie Tozier/Ted Wheeler (Stranger Things), Maggie Tozier & Mike Wheeler, Maggie Tozier & Richie Tozier & Wentworth Tozier Additional Tags: Richie Tozier Has ADHD, Good Parent Maggie Tozier, Bisexual Mike Wheeler, POV Mike Wheeler, Autistic Mike Wheeler, Ben Hanscom is a Good Friend, Minor Ben Hanscom/Beverly Marsh, Minor Bill Denbrough/Audra Phillips, Holly Wheeler is a Sweetheart, Autistic Holly Wheeler, Brotherly Love, Family Secrets, Mike Wheeler Loves Will Byers, Will Byers Loves Mike Wheeler, Jewish Will Byers, Alternate Universe - No Upside Down (Stranger Things), Good Parent Jim "Chief" Hopper, Good Parent Joyce Byers, Jason Carver Being an Asshole, Joyce Byers & Karen Wheeler Friendship, POV Karen Wheeler, Karen Wheeler Tries, Ted Wheeler Being an Asshole (Stranger Things), Angst with a Happy Ending, Author is a Mike Wheeler Apologist, Jewish Byers Family (Stranger Things), Eddie Kaspbrak Lives, Eddie Kaspbrak Has OCD, Eddie Kaspbrak Loves Richie Tozier, Mike Wheeler-centric, Stanley Uris Lives, Sassy Stanley Uris, Good Sibling Mike Wheeler, Step-Brothers, Author Mike Wheeler, Tattoo Artist Will Byers read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/G0XSlHy

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Scott McKenzie, the singer-songwriter best known for his association with John Phillips and the 1967 Summer of Love anthem “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair),” the sonic tract that called 1000s of young people to California.
Phillips (who played on the track with The Wrecking Crew) wrote the song to appease authorities concerned that hippies would overrun the Bay Area for the Monterey Pop Festival. Peace and love prevailed. The song has been used in several films and was a theme for the Prague Spring Czech uprising in 1968. That same year, McKenzie’s next Top 40 hit “Like an Old Time Movie” (also written and played by Phillips) segued with McKenzie writing “What About Me” for Anne Murray (her first hit single).
Like many artists circa 1960, McKenzie morphed out of doo-wop and became a folkie, joining the New York folk scene that beget The Mamas & The Papas. Phillips initially invited McKenzie to join that group but he declined, saying he didn’t want “the pressure.” Years later McKenzie joined a road version of The Mamas & The Papas in 1986. Concurrently, the Phillips-McKenzie team joined Mike Love and Terry Melcher to create the huge Beach Boys hit “Kokomo.”
The evergreen “San Francisco” remains McKenzie’s best-known work (he passed from Guillain-Barre syndrome in 2010). Periodically I dabbled with the song, dirty demo-ing a grunge-y Iggy Pop-like update: https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/track/san-francisco-be-sure-to-wear-flowers-in-your-hair-demo-remastered-2020

I Love You Phillip Morris Review- 2009
I Need Therapy/10 Stars. This movie is beyond numbers.
I don't think a movie has ever left me in so much pure awe at it's mere existence, and NOBODY TALKS ABOUT IT. I feel like this movie would be YouTube commentary gold. I'm perplexed. By no means, this movie isn't good. It's also not bad. It's just so weird. It is unspeakably weird. It's the kind of weird where I don't even know how to describe how weird it was. What the actual fuck did I watch??? If you were complaining about biopics in 2022, I think you need to visit this.
This movie stars Jim Carrey, Jim fucking Carrey, as gay con artist Steven Russell. And, as the title suggests, he falls in love with Phillip Morris (played by Ewan McGregor). This movie is based on a true story. Somehow, this actually happened. And, according to the real Phillip Morris, this movie was actually accurate. I'm really happy that this movie was able to put his story out there, what happened to him was simply awful. It seems to have been therapuetic for him. And the fact a romcom captured it is just something else. Ewan McGregor did a wonderful job. https://www.chron.com/entertainment/article/The-real-Phillip-Morris-happy-to-be-portrayed-as-1712815.php
This movie at many moments, as a gay person, I felt like this movie should have offended me. But I was in too much shock and awe to even care. Jim Carrey drops the f slur a lot, and how he plays it at times can be viewed as stereotypical. But this movie just, I don't think a movie has ever left me more perplexed. I'm speechless.
This movie was one of Jim Carrey's least paid roles. In an interview, he said HE would have paid to do this movie. And in some ways, he was perfect for it. Just, the fact Jim Carrey of all people WANTED this role boggles me. https://www.contactmusic.com/jim-carrey/news/carrey-took-big-pay-cut-to-star-in-phillip-morris_1186996
I remember watching this movie, then just staring at my wall all night thinking about how much it's existence confused me. I suggest giving it a watch, if you want to have an existential crisis as well.
Someone please send help.

TRON Lightcycle Run from GMUNK on Vimeo.
There’s a power, an elegance, and an electric intensity to the TRON Legacy franchise. The narrative of the TRON world itself integrates the tactile human experience with another realm where data, design, stunning architecture, and mood combine for a thrilling ride through a digital plane. There’s a personal connection Munky has to the franchise. He spent a year designing the holographic world of the film, contributed to high-level concepts for the video game, and now the key visual and live-action campaign for the Lightcycle Run attraction at Magic Kingdom.
What was exciting for him is to be there along the whole collaborative and evolutionary arc of the TRON world. A new favorite agency Disney Yellow Shoes wrote a very cool script focused on typography and pacing, and brought Munkowitz into the fold to apply his aesthetic to the entire package. This point in the journey, particularly, really got him excited because it was truly the most cathartic and fully fleshed out manifestation of the story at immense scale and physicality; the characters, the environment, and the concept in an immersive experience that culminated in a total thrill ride.
To see the ride at scale and to strategize how to capture it was a fresh challenge. Combining that with the primary focus of telling the human story behind the experience, achieved through the same lens and focus on the stylistic flair of the existing franchise was an absolute treat to work on.

❄️Drabblecember Day 8❄️
🥜Sharing Snacks🍑
Prompts by @eternally-smitten
Pairing: Sara x Pam B.eesly
Word Count: 489
Author’s Note: Tried to make a drabble more close to the ‘humor’/pacing/style of canon hehe 😉
The auditorium was alive with chatter. Sara looked around, people watching to kill time. The Halpeesly family was currently waiting to watch Cece’s annual church Christmas pageant. Phillip would be there too someday, but was much too small currently.
The lights started to dim, causing the chatter to become just a few whispers. The pianist began playing and the dark green curtain lifted.
Rows of small children fumbled or stood as still as possible. Sara saw Cece in the front row, dressed as a simple/cliche angel along with most of the other girls. She beamed brightly and began to sing with the group.
They started with the department store classic ‘Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer’. Besides her, Pam fumbled with her smartphone, trying to get the camera to focus. Jim was holding Phillip, rocking him along to the tune and smiling.
Sara had brought along an old analog camera just in case the other videos/cameras/etc. fell through. She retrieved the device out of her deep purple, leather satchel.
The video tape had previously held ‘films’ from Sara’s art school days. As much as the artist in her hated to record over the hard copies of some of her work, it mostly reminded her of bad times. Unsure times. Times unlike this.
She now used the tape for ‘family moments’, like birthdays and christenings. Her first ever viewing of the Christmas pageant seemed like just the kind of moment she did want to remember.
She started up the camera, hitting ‘record’ as the familiar hum of the machine started.
Pam looked over and giggled.
“What?” Sara asked, chuckling. “When is that thing from, 1998?” she playfully teased. Sara made a ‘very funny’ expression and replied “2002 actually!” Jim laughed.
Her stomach rumbled audibly and suddenly. She had spent the whole day worrying about presenting appropriately that all she had had was a light breakfast. The man next to her eyed her, as if annoyed.
Pam caught the glance and rolled her eyes, opening her purse. “I brought snacks.” she whispered as quietly as possible. Sara eyed the inside of the bag for the selection. She spied a few granola bars, individually wrapped fruit leathers and a small ziplock bag of trail mix.
“I’ll take the apricot fruit leather please and thank you.” Sara quickly whispered back. She fumbled to quietly unwrap the treat.
Jim leaned over and mumbled “Let me gets my hands on some of that trail mix.” He opened his free hand. Pam gingerly shoveled some of the mix into it. He tried to quietly chew but the man next to Sara sighed loudly through his nose.
“You’re all really not supposed to be eating in here.” he retorted shortly, crossing his arms and huffing in a dramatic manner. “Are you gonna tell on us?” Jim slyly responded. Sara stifled a laugh.
A few voices behind them ‘shushed’ and Sara and Pam continued to film.

James Russell Amspacher, BJU Class of 1960.
Reverend James Russell Amspacher, 90, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, May 27, 2024, at his residence, under the care of Knute Nelson hospice.
James was born October 10, 1933, in Shrewsbury Township, Southeastern Pennsylvania. He received elementary education at many one-room schoolhouses and graduated from Red Lion High School's Industrial Class in 1951. He received further training in the printing industry at York Post Printers; and took additional training, including graduating at Merganthalter Intertype School in New York operation and maintenance. He enjoyed working as a printer in print shops.
He joined the United States Marine Corp (1953-1956) and trained at Paris Island, Great Lakes Naval Training Center and became a pay clerk, serving in Norfolk and Portsmouth, VA before being discharged as a Sergeant.
He graduated from Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-ministerial studies; continued his educational studies at Faith Theological Seminary in Elkin's Park Philadelphia, PA. While in Philadelphia, he worked with the children at Bethanna Home. He completed seminary training at the Lutheran Brethren Seminary in Fergus Falls, MN in 1963 where he met his future wife and served in the Print shop for the Lutheran Brethren Synod.
On August 31, 1963 he married Virginia Jean Wallin in Minooka, IL and raised four girls, Helen, Miriam, Teresa and Naomi. Through the years, he served the following Lutheran Brethren locations:
Brooklyn, NY;
a 3 point parish in Grand Rapids, Deer River and Big Fork MN;
a 2 point parish in Duluth, MN and Superior, WI;
Great Falls, MT;
a 2 point parish in Maddock and Manfred, ND;
a 2 point parish in Hendricks, MN and Toronto, SD;
North Tonawanda, NY;
Abercrombie, ND;
Aurdal Independent Church in rural Fergus Falls, MN
Chaplin of Sikora Post #1322 and Broen Memorial Home.
He did not ""retire"" from the ministry until he was 85 years of age. He ministered to the public by sharing his faith and love of Jesus through service work with several high school and college wrestling teams and also with Hills/Ames Department Stores. He was a true disciple of Jesus, practicing humility, showing forgiveness and offering God's grace, while sharing Jesus' love. He studied the Bible daily praying unceasingly seeking wisdom and guidance to live and disciple in God's will. He frequently assisted people needing safe passage. He invited people in from the street who were hungry to eat at his family table. Wherever he lived, he mowed lawns for anyone who needed assistance and frequently shared his garden's harvest.""
He was a member and secretary of Kiwanis in each city and the President of Great Falls Miracle Mile Club.
He was known to those who loved him most as ""Jimmy""; ""Dad"", ""Grandpa"" ""Bampa"" and quite frequently as Pastor Jim. He was an artist using many mediums including cakes, candles, ceramics, and oil painted saw blades. He was a wonderful counselor, father and teacher of how to live life most abundantly. He was most concerned that he taught others to seek the Lord and Savior's wisdom and direction rather than relying upon our own or other's wisdom. Many of his friends and parishioners were led to establish or deepen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Edward and Mary); 10 brothers and sisters, Edward Jr., Harry, Mary, Major George, Charles, Anna, Edith, Phillip, Louise, and Frederick; nieces and nephews Dorothy, Dee-Dee Nathan and Sonny.
