I'm really excited to write the small ways in which James and Lily start getting closer and get to actually know one another though they're already married.

I have a fight I'm really excited to write. It's an argument that gets really nasty and does end with tears and you know I'm rubbing my hands together greedily.

Look I'm SO EXCITED to get to baby Harry in this universe, but I also really want to circle back and write Lily and James' first I love you moment because it's been VERY CLEAR in my head since I outlined the original story.

I have most of this written, but I'm excited to look at it with fresh eyes and really dial up the angst with misunderstanding.

Self Celebration Game

Thank you for the tag @annabtg and @athenasparrow! I feel like I should have accomplished more on the Jily front, but there are a few things in 2023 so far that I can celebrate!

Jily Related

I completed it's all happening without me, my Jily Normal People AU.

I wrote four Jily Microfics.

I published my Jily Actors AU, called fastening myself to you with a stitch.

I wrote a fic for the January Jily Challenge called Wild Nights! Wild Nights!

I wrote and published two chapters of my new Jily Regency AU Crossed in Love.

I completed a Jily as AO3 Writers AU named everybody is a sexy baby, and i'm a monster on the hill.

I posted Chapter 9 of no body, no crime.

I wrote ten songs for Lily's album for an upcoming Jily Musicians AU, titled flowers.

(Here's to much more to come on the Jily front!)

Personal

No personal accomplishment, but the highlight of my year: my uncle is not terminal and will hopefully live for a healthy many years to come.

I dealt with Covid-19 for the second time and managed to stay positive despite the fact that it was terrible timing. (I am really proud that I didn't cry!)

My exam students completed their IB Individual Orals and gave me flowers to thank me for all my help.

One of my students said: "You know, Miss, you are properly cool, like: you are one of us, but you are also incredibly wise at the same time."

One of my main personal achievements this year: actually saying no when I was too busy to do something. I never ever say 'no', because I always feel guilty when I do. So, I'm proud I managed and that the world didn't implode when I did.

This one has been sitting for too long so now that i found a wee bit of time, I'm going to answer this now. All of these are fics that I wrote this year, they are all short (<2 k) and looking back they make me smile. * Only Fools Rush In ( A moment in the life of Augusta Longbottom, inspired while reading the last book to my child: Neville mentions his gran's letter to him.)

In the beginning of this year I wrote a jily microfic for every prompt of the month March (moody prompt list ;-) and I'm both proud of finishing the whole month and for trying a lot of different things. Here are (some of) my favourites:

Lost Count (Troubled). Lily finds herself in a bad place and yes I'm bad at summaries. and the sequel (inspired by Ian McEwan's Nutshell) Upside Down (Nostalgic)

Deja Vu (James and Lily and Sirius find themselves in dangerous Order missions all of the time. Sirius has had enough. It's high time these idiots stop being idiots)

Green Dress

She sat on a wooden bench, her eyes closed against the rays of the morning sun, its warmth a joy to feel on her skin. Oh how she had missed the sun's presence in the winter. Winter brought with it its own special pleasures, Lily would not tire easily from an evening reading before a big crackling fire, but to be outside and be warmed by the sun was a wonderful feeling.

"Are you avoiding me?" a deep voice asked. 

Her breath hitched, she'd not heard him approach, she'd not hear much other than birdsong and leaves rushing in the breeze. A shiver run down her spine, unreasonably she felt caught, as if she did not have every right to sit here. 

"My Lord, I am merely ensuring that my attire is appropriate for the Queen's tea party this afternoon," she answered, not in as steady a voice as she would have liked. "Since you would like nothing better than to raise a breeze, I thought it wise to spend some time alone."

"This is your opinion of me?" his voice dropped impossibly lower. 

Lily pressed her legs together. She took a deep breath then turned to face him. He was close, she could touch him without even standing up. Her face turned up, and up, and up. The man looked every bit the dashing gentleman his station required, his untameable curls and a pair of crooked glasses the only signs of his sinful rakishness. Well, those and his smirk. It all added to her inopportune attraction to him.

"You know very well my opinion of you, my Lord," she said, as he lowered himself so she wasn't blinded by the sun looking up anymore. "You've completely ruined me for everyone else."

His hand, ungloved, reached and carefully tucked a stray strand of her auburn hair behind her ear, brushing the shell so lightly it might have been accidental, but Lily doubted it very much. 

Her body responded with heat, flames flared low in her belly, and her eyes flicked to his sinful lips.

So, yes, she had been hiding from him, as the prospect of meeting the Queen and her court made her nervous, she worried she would be out of place there, as she never felt like a proper lady. The last thing she needed was showing up in a disheveled state. 

But he'd found her anyway, her attempt to not give in to the desire that Lord Potter inspired futile.

Lord Potter, who she had misjudged when she first met him. She'd believed him a rake, arrogant, haughty and uncaring. Thankfully, she had come to know him better. Much better in fact.

She had come to see his character in a different light, in the light of his actions instead of the fudges of a sensationalist society and the bandy words of a jealous and lousy man. 

He always ensured that his attentions more than satisfied her, to the extent that by now she felt quite addicted to him. Fortunately, they had married as soon as the special license had allowed.

Her husband who shone down all other men, now regarded her with a knowing and mischievous smile. "Lily, you seem nervous, please let me distract you from what troubles you and ease your mind?"

Damn it,  Lily thought, she'd be wearing a green dress to today's party after all. The twitch of his lips was enough to let her know that was exactly what her husband had planned.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished (moody march word: revolted)

He never doubted who he’d find in the locked library.  Miss Evans could not leave the ball, as he well knew. He congratulated himself once more on his foresight to talk to Mr Dursley. He was well aware of Mrs Dursley’s disapproval, although it was inexplicable why she should think him beneath her sister’s touch. He’d offered for her with only one mention of her small dowry, he was a gentleman after all.  Now at last he would claim her, for if her virtue would keep her from accepting him, she would surely not continue to reject him once her virtue depended on becoming his wife. 

The master key in his hand, he thought for a moment of knocking and making his presence known, but that would not do. So he turned and opened the door. 

The room was barely lit, the fire in the hearth the only light. Still the sight that met him was one that absolutely revolted him. He could do nothing but stare at first. His thoughts whirred loudly in his head, his teeth crunched nearly bitting off his own tongue. His hand gripped the door handle hard, his knuckles turned white. 

He was going to murder Lord Potter. His nostrils flared, he was about to shout, but stopped before he could utter a sound. What if he called compromise now, he would be the one to force Miss Evans into the marriage bed with Lord Potter. What if he called out and Lord Potter turned his back on her, leaving her ruined forever?

His patron would not allow him to marry a wife that was compromised, he was sure of it. All his aspirations to be knighted and to be a member of Parliament would be severely damaged if he took a bit of muslin for a wife. 

He had lost, thoroughly and fully lost. He could do nothing but close the door on his most hated enemy and the woman he had wanted to have most. For he would not give his ambitions up, not for her, not if this was her true nature. No, his future was with his patron, not with a woman. 

He spat on the ground, hatred boiled in him, so much that he didn’t watch where he was going. A group of rowdy men, all too far into their cups stood at the bottom of the stairs, he pushed through them, not caring if he knocked them down. A shout, a punch, more shouting and before anyone knew what happened a full blown brawl had begun. 

Mr Snape was not a fighter. His injuries were of the kind that modern medicine would be able to cure easily, but not for another hundred years…

Random question which you have probably been asked before but I was reading KUBME and started wondering if you happen to have a specific fan cast for Jily in this AU? Or for Jily in general? I know many people in this fandom tend to go for Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Sophie Skelton or Karen Gillan as Jily but I'm always curious to hear if people have some different options too.

Hi! I'm so sorry for not responding to this one sooner. I had seen it and thought: "I need some time to reply to this properly!" and then I promptly forgot about it. Anyway, I find fan casts very difficult. I know loads of people like Karen Gillan and Aaron Taylor-Johnson and while I think both are gorgeous, my Lily and James look nothing like them. Sophie Skelton is a beautiful human being as well and I think she looks more similar to my Lily, but she's also not how I picture her exactly. Also, I find that I can have different versions in mind of both James and Lily in any of my fics. For Lily in the Sky with Diamonds, for example, I thought that Sadie Sink at the Venice Film Festival came close if she had hair a deeper shade of red and green eyes. For SOTME/KUBME I have a very clear image of the both of them, but I have yet to find anyone that makes me go: "Yes! That's it!" To pacify you... @constancezin recently drew something for my Regency Jily Microfic and that is so perfect! I am forever grateful!
