This one has been sitting for too long so now that i found a wee bit of time, I'm going to answer this now. All of these are fics that I wrote this year, they are all short (<2 k) and looking back they make me smile. * Only Fools Rush In ( A moment in the life of Augusta Longbottom, inspired while reading the last book to my child: Neville mentions his gran's letter to him.)

In the beginning of this year I wrote a jily microfic for every prompt of the month March (moody prompt list ;-) and I'm both proud of finishing the whole month and for trying a lot of different things. Here are (some of) my favourites:

Lost Count (Troubled). Lily finds herself in a bad place and yes I'm bad at summaries. and the sequel (inspired by Ian McEwan's Nutshell) Upside Down (Nostalgic)

Deja Vu (James and Lily and Sirius find themselves in dangerous Order missions all of the time. Sirius has had enough. It's high time these idiots stop being idiots)

actually rereading these microfics I absolutely love the Regency set... so here are the links to all of them - I especially enjoyed writing different versions of how things evolved one fateful ball...

Regency Jily Microfics (chapters 16, chapter 21, chapter 22 ( a little bit of love to the comedic brilliance of Pride and Prejudice ;-) chapter 24, chapter 28, chapter 29, chapter 30, chapter 31, chapter 32 (especially for @petalsthefish, chapter 33, chapter 34, chapter 36 )

I feel like I'm cheating a bit, but the above chapters are really all one story ;-) and that leaves me with one last one. This one is very short and simply about canon Jily 💘💞💘

okay, five favourites. ended up with five muggle AUs. in no particular order...

Murder on the Dance Floor, in which James, a cricketing superstar, signs up for Strictly Come Dancing to appease his mother, and is paired with a certain firecracker of a pro dancer...

A Lesson in Communication, in which James is a primary school teacher who thinks the beautiful redhead he keeps bumping into is a parent of a child in his school...

Table-Mates, in which James loves a good wedding, and his friendly nature is misunderstood...

Head Over Heels, in which James is looking for a seat in the pub, Lily is not on board with randomers trying to get in her pants, and Pete suffers from plantar fasciitis...

and less fun, but I'm still proud of it, Forget-Me-Not, in which Lily bumps into James again after ten years apart, but he doesn't seem to recognise her... (cw: deals with rape and its aftermath, anxiety, panic attacks)

Whispers in the Dark: When Lily is awarded her prefect badge in fifth year, they warn her that James Potter has a talent for disappearing... but if that's true, why does he keep coming to her night after night, hoping to be caught

Probably the one I’m most proud of right now. It came out of nowhere and I’m pretty happy how it turned out.

2. Catch the Wind: Hating him was easy, a feeling as natural as time marching forward. But something had changed with James Potter and Lily couldn’t ignore it so easily anymore. He was becoming, Merlin forbid, attractive.

My ‘white whale’ long fic that crams all my headcanon into one place. Scopes from 6th year onwards.

3. Legilimens: Perhaps the real James was doing it on purpose--using memories of Lily to either drive him insane or to push away the real secrets that hid beyond. If it was true, he was succeeding on all accounts.

Aka. Torturing Snape via Legilimency. Generally people don’t use this plot device enough and I live for it!

4. Seat with the Clearest View: Lily and the marauders were his constant, like two separate stars orbiting his universe. But year after year stars get older. Their orbits start to move closer. It is only a matter of time before they collide.

It’s my dark horse fic in Remus POV but it wsas such a job writing and I’m currently polishing the 3rd and final chapter.

5. Until the Light Takes Us: Before the dawn I hear you whisper in your sleep, ‘Don’t let the morning take him.’ 

Yes this is also the name for my Jilytober collection but the first fic (named the same) is probably one of my favorite things I’ve ever written. I’m pretty proud of a lot of that collection but the first story is really close to my heart.

An Unexpected Ally - my second story for the "make Jily trans" agenda; this microfic makes me so happy <3

Jily Microfics, Feb 2024: An Academic Rivals Montage - newly renamed because I think it deserves to stand on its own - this short collection of fics is some of my favorite stuff I've ever written.

i don't even know where you end and i begin - for anyone in the mood to absolutely annihilate their mental stability by way of canon prongsfoot. i'm really proud of this devastating microfic.

Sweet Seventeen - canon early-relationship Jily feat. tooth-achingly adorable snowball fights on Lily's birthday. imo, one of the best pieces of writing i've got.

Happy Holidays, You Filthy Potters - fix-it fic feat. smutty married Jily! I just reread this the other day and realized it's actually very good, lol.

written for @thegobletofweasleys's Jily Week 2023 day one (it's still technically july 31st where I am, I swear)! fluff/angst day, because this fandom needs a laugh every now and then. gifted to the lovely lovely @kay-elle-cee <3 playlist here!

James has always thought that Lily Evans looks exceptionally breathtaking when she’s angry.

It’s the sort of thought that he keeps shamefully locked-away in a crevice of his mind with all his other foolish Evans-induced blatherings. He wouldn’t dare say it aloud in front of his own mates, let alone Evans herself. After all, he hardly needs to hand her more reasons to dislike him. The post-OWLs incident sends a miserable shiver down his spine every time he recalls it.

Right now, the intensity in Lily’s bright green eyes, staring him down with enough force to bore a hole through his Quidditch gear, reminds him of the fiery expressions she’d worn that were precursors to all their fights last year. 

They would all begin this way: he, a bumbling prat desperate for her attention, would say something thoughtless to garner a reaction from her. Evans, prouder than a Hippogriff and sharper than a Basilisk fang, would take the bait immediately, eyes flashing with affront, and volley a creative insult his way. James would comfort himself with the thought that she never seemed to mean her insults seriously; every so often he'd catch her hiding a smile as they parted, and sometimes he could coax the occasional laugh out of her.  

But since the beginning of their sixth year, things have been different between him and Lily Evans. They’re friendly, sort of, and rarely argue these days, but it’s tenuous. Fracturable. He inevitably seems to screw up every normal conversation they have and leave an awkward tension in his wake.

Today, as Lily stares him down with an intensity he hasn't seen from her in months, James hasn't a clue what he said to garner such a strong reaction from her. 

He had been heading to the Quidditch locker room for a quick shower post-practice when Evans — an occasional spectator at their team drills, thanks to her friendship with the Gryffindor Beater, Marlene — had fallen into step with him. He immediately straightened to his full height, hyper-aware of her presence beside him. 

James, as always, is desperate to impress her.

Thankfully, she hadn't seemed to notice his apprehension. She struck up a conversation about their assignments, which soon devolved into James waxing poetic on NEWT-level Transfiguration theorems. It marked the longest civil conversation he’d had with Lily Evans in ages, and he’d thought it was going swimmingly — he was just starting to tell her about tutoring younger kids in remedial Transfiguration essentials — when she abruptly stopped walking, placed her hands on her hips, and fixed him with that fiery, indignant look he’s come to both yearn for and shrink from over the years.

Now, James gulps. Shit. What had he done now? 

“You know, Potter,” Evans begins innocuously, but her eyes flash in his direction and James knows he’s in seriously deep water. “Sometimes I have no idea what to make of you.” 

James stares blankly. 

“You can be such a prat, you know, when you go around hexing people for the fun of it and acting like you’re the king of the castle. Sometimes I want to—” and here she starts getting agitated, her pale cheeks reddening rapidly: “—to shove your head down a toilet and leave you there until all that arrogance seeps out of your stupidly large skull.” 

His heart drops instantly. He’s only half-aware that the rest of the team is long-gone into the showers, and that it’s been only him and Evans for several minutes now. 

He thinks: arrogant, bullying toe-rag.  

“But sometimes,” Lily continues in a way that he can’t describe in any way other than heated, and then says: “Sometimes I want to cut off all your air circulation.” 

That’s typical, James thinks, picturing her hands locked around his throat, staring him down with that scorching stare as he slowly perishes. 

Then: “With my mouth on your mouth.” 

His brain flatlines.

Lay All Your Love On Me (LAYLOM)

The first time Lily kisses James, he doesn't even know.

While it's not my best writing and most of it is wildly unedited, it's a very important fic for me because just publishing whatever I've had really helped me slog through some terrible writing and zero-inspiration moments. It's also the first multi-chap that I've written while publishing. I know where it's going, but the journey is on a whim!

Dancing With Our Hands Tied (DWOHT)

But despite his best efforts, he couldn’t take his eyes off her figure as she moved effortlessly in rhythm with whatever song she had playing. He learned she was wearing more than a t-shirt when she slid across the kitchen on her socks, throwing her head back to sing words James wished he could hear.

My BABY! Yeah, I loved every moment of this fic! I love this Lily and James so much that there are two sequels in the works xx

The Art of Identification

Lily, star potions pupil, can't identify Amortentia when it's staring her right in the face (or nose)

This one is a rarity; I don't usually do Hogwarts AND no smut LOL! Wrote it for @annabtg on (read: wayyyy after) her birthday and LOVED writing a twist to the normal amortentia realisation : )

One of my very first fics that's been getting a bit of love lately! I think if I wrote it now, it would be a heck of a lot longer and more angsty, but I love it for what it is!

Two strangers, one umbrella, and a little bit of fate.

One of my favourite strangers - lovers creations of mine. I love this trope and I had A LOT of fun writing this! I still giggle when I read it.

I wouldn't be a very good smut fairy if I didn't break the rules and drop this bonus pure smut fic at the bottom because that was FUN, but probs not what people are wanting rec'd lol.

Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting) || 14k. Oneshot. Rated M. Sirius, Lily, and James deal with the fallout of the events from the end of 5th year.

No one is surprised by this one. The idea for this fic is what pulled me back into writing and will forever have my whole heart.

restless waves rise and fall || 48K. Complete. Rated T. Pirate AU In which James Potter is a gentleman pirate and Lily Evans is his loyal but vastly more competent First Mate.

My first completed multichap AND my first AU <3 RW Jily has a hold on me after this and I love them with all my heart. I briefly wrote for the POTC fandom years ago so this was just like....a very fun cross-section of my interests.

A Thrill Divine, Down My Spine || 2k. Oneshot. Rated T “You know what I'm getting at — you're like a really good thing personified. Take a compliment Potter, God.” She turns on her stool to face him, sliding one of the firewhiskies his way. Or: Two totally platonic friends get drinks after a rough day.

This came about so suddenly and was so fun to write...it was just really enjoyable to write something light and flirty!

Echoes of a Love Lived || 13.7K. Complete. Rated T. A collection of Jilytober ficlets.

A huge undertaking for me, but it was a great opportunity to kind of play around with styles and POVs and I'm really proud of these little moments.

When Resiliency Shatters || 1k. Oneshot. Rated M James and Lily grapple with isolation in the week after undergoing the Fidelius Charm.

I delighted in writing this kind of sorrow with a cheerful holiday background. Also, I just really enjoyed getting to write a moment where James' whole personality is thrown for a loop and we see him kind of stumble numbly through life.

23. A fix with your favourite line

I’m not sure I could decide because there’s a few (we all get a bit sentimental about our marauders, don’t we?) but let’s just go with my favourite prongsfoot brotp line which is from Boys Don’t Cry which is a Prank fic exploring why Sirius told Snape about the Whomping Willow. I love their friendship so much:

“You’ve got me. I’m your brother now,” James said, quietly, confidently.

Sirius clenched his jaw. He would not cry, Merlin, damn it.

“You’re not my brother, Potter,” he said.

Dismissively, coldly.

He watched a flicker of hurt cross James’ face, replaced by something else.

“I know that,” James said. “But you’re mine.”

CH I: The Myth of Icarus

“Fly as high as you wish, flower,” her mother once said, “but be mindful of the sun. Warmth can only last so long before it burns.” Her words, emanating from her gentle, cherry-coloured mouth, echoed in her head over and over like a mantra, a promise, a lesson. Rose Evans, a woman of rich auburn hair and an undeniable youthful shine, spoke about the world in a way that demanded to be listened to: cryptic, wise and unforgettable. Always unforgettable.  Lily could still picture her: kneeling down, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, softly kissing her forehead. The remains of Lily’s seventh birthday were everywhere around them: empty teacups, a light-pink tablecloth, glittery wrapping paper and all sorts of costumes and dolls lying on the floor. All lovely and bright. The Evanses didn’t have much, but what they lacked in goods they made up for in spirit. It had been Lily’s seventh birthday and, after an afternoon of playing with all of her friends, she confessed her one birthday wish. Lily Evans wanted to fly.

the way you left me || At nineteen, James vanishes, and Lily breaks.

I wrote this in a fevered rush, and I think it's the one I'm most proud of overall. Not entirely sure why, which doesn't lend itself to this sort of post, does it? It's sad and sweet and painful and all the things I like writing most. Angst with a happy, hopeful ending is my sweet spot.

2. Uninvited || With NEWTs looming, friends gather at the Potters' cottage in Wales to study and let off steam during the Easter holidays of their seventh year.

What's not to enjoy about pining, a Welsh beach and a 'there was only one bed' scenario? It includes this sentence, which I feel nicely encapsulates the gang:

They ate their fill; Mary tried to teach them a strange Muggle game called cricket, which James had a natural affinity for (“ever the fucking sportsman,” Marlene jeered from her position on the opposing team); Sirius tried to lead a team into the shallows, forgetting that the waters around the British Isles were frigid at the best of times; Remus built a bonfire in a bid to stop said team from developing frostbite.

I mean, what more can I say?

3. Forget-Me-Not (cw: sa). ||. At eighteen, Lily Evans fell - and fell hard - for James Potter, a classmate she had never given much thought to before. He seemed as into her as she was into him, so why is it, when she starts a new job almost a decade and a lot of water under that particular bridge later, that her new boss - James Potter himself - doesn't seem to remember her at all? A Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi Mcfarlane AU fic.

I wasn't going to include this one, but I guess I changed my mind? I'm proud that I a) finished this fic at all, and b) hopefully managed a very fine balance in dealing with an extremely sensitive subject. It was all a very personal writing experience and I guess I'm glad it all came out okay in the end.

4. A Lesson in Communication || There's a rule at his school that teachers are strictly not allowed to date the parents of pupils. James has never minded this rule before...

This largely started because it so amused me to think of James wrangling children at sports day. This is one of those stories that was supposed to be a quick thing, and then morphed into a nearly-12k monster whereby the misunderstandings piled up on top of each other like delicious pancakes. Yes, if anyone asked a straightforward question this fic would be about 500 words. Yes, my favourite bit is still Remus' reaction when he realises James' mistake.

5. The Price We Pay || As the summer before their sixth year comes to an end, Sirius, Remus, Lily and James consider how things may be different on their return to Hogwarts. When Sirius finally breaks free from his toxic home, it should be a fresh start - but unfortunately, it's the start of a spiral that will threaten the foundations of friendship, and change their lives irrevocably.

Last but not least! That blurb could do with updating, really, given that now – 27 chapters in – we're into seventh year and rather a lot has happened, haha. Still, when I started it, I didn't think I'd write more than maybe five or six chapters, and then it sort of grew its own little legs and scurried away from me. You know, how writing does? It's my original baby fic and I love it so but I also go through phases where I worry it's all utter bollocks, so it's very much a rollercoaster of a relationship. There is something both wonderful and challenging in writing a canon multi-chap, especially in this fandom where there are so many amazing canon multi-chaps. We battle on.

What a strange, therapy-esque post this ended up being 😅

Definetly Charred Pineaple Margarita's and a Bagel. One of my fluffier fics and has a cute ending imo

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No thankfully!! I could never imagine hating on an individual fic, if you don't like something just leave. Fandom discourse is a whole other bucket of worms.

9. Do you write smut. If so what kind?

I dooooo or rather I tryyyyyyy. It's pretty regualr run of the mill smut, and it's absolutley plot driven. I want to get better and feel less awkward while writing it!!

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

No i do not. I don't really enjoy cross over personally, borrowing other worlds can be well done thought.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No I haven't thankfully!!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No but that would be so cool if it was!! I'd love to see These Cruel Delights translated into either French or German once it's done, but my written language skills in both languages aren't good enough.

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

No but i'd be very open to it. It seems like a lot of fun and getting to play off of another authors style would be fascinating.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Jily, duh. 😉

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I will finish ALL of my works I'm not putting that energy out into the universe 😭

16. What are your writing strengths?

100% dialogue. I adore writting dialogue, it's so fun and allows you to build relationships and dynamics. I really want to try my hand at a text fic one day because i feel like it's a great way to build a dialogue only fic.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

description and scene building. I feel Like i haven't captured a way to describe a scene in a natural and flowing manner.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think it can be done so long as it's either translated or feels properly placed.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Narnia actually, back on the good ol' fanfiction.net as a wee baby teen. (but we don't talk about that one😗)

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

The Devil In the Cloakroom and These cruel Delights!!! The devil in the cloak room was SO much fun to write and i can't wait to finish it either this week or next <3
