I didn’t realize until today how much this film affected 13yo me’s fashion sense through to adulthood.
It’s not a bad thing, but I just can’t believe how much I modeled my fashion off of Jill Schoelen this film.
The attire in these screenshots could EASILY be part of my garment collection! With the exception of the hip boosting pads in the second to last photo.
I couldn’t remember for the life of me why I started wearing chokers at that age and LOOK AT WHAT SHE’S WEARING!
I just copy and pasted my whole fashion sense off of one scene in this movie!
Also, please look at the her sleeves and appreciate the tiny holes! They’re so cute!!
Also, also, it’s vexing not knowing if her vest is velvet, suede, or wool. I CAN’T SEE A THING IN THIS LIGHTING.

The Phantom of the Opera (1989)
I know it’s gauche to discuss a movie’s marketing instead of its content, but the 1989 adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera is an especially peculiar case.  Clearly, the best way to sell the film would be to piggyback off star Robert Englund’s success in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, especially since Freddy Kreuger’s make-up designer Kevin Yagher tagged along to apply the exact same…
