it is most definitely jakey hours!! i love that man sm <3 can i request something where jake has a famous s/o?
I am so sorry. This is just crack man.
Jake Kim x Idol!Reader: That's my girlfriend!
F!Reader. Crack.
Tumblr media
"That's my girlfriend."
"What, really?!"
"Yep!"
Lua's jaw drops, grains of rice falling from her mouth.
"This one?" She signals with her chopsticks, smearing the food across her laptop screen but she doesn't care. She needs to make sure.
"That one." Jake nods, a proud smile on his face.
"But she's super famous! She's got millions of subscribers." What Lua means to say is, how on earth did you bag her?!
"Yeah..." He agrees, eyes looking dreamy and glazed. "I'm one of them."
"Huh," is all Lua can say. She sees no reason why Jake would lie but... She takes one more look at the screen, and then glances at Jake. With his over slicked hair, the greying shirt, the corny smile, the dwindling bank account, and-
Wow. Talk about punching above your weight.
.
.
"Look, Jerry!" Jake thrusts his phone in his No. 2's face. "That's me and Y/N at an awards show last night. Doesn't she look great?"
"Yes, boss." Jerry refrains from sighing. Thinks about how much he respects and loves Jake. How happy you make him.
Jerry can put up with how insufferable he is.
"She's so creative and talented!"
"Yes, boss."
"That's my girlfriend, y'know."
It's a small price to pay, Jerry thinks to himself over and over. It's a new mantra.
"I know, boss."
.
.
"That's your girlfriend?"
"Yep!"
Sinu grabs Jake's phone, yanking it closer to inspect the person currently being interviewed at some talk show or another. "Are you sure?"
"Yep!"
Sinu glances at Jake's beaming face, then again at the girl talking and pulls a face. He thought he was the one losing his mind after being drugged and the whole ordeal with Workers for the past year.
Who would have thought Jake Kim would be off his rocker too. Full of delusions about being with some starlet.
Sinu should have a word with Yeonhui and Jerry.
"Sure, Jake!" Sinu plasters on a fake smile and throws his arm around Jake's shoulder, giving him a gentle pat. "I'm really happy for you!"
"Thanks. She makes me really happy." Jake smiles. It's softer and more sincere than Sinu has ever seen.
Sinu hides the frown tugging on his lips. Maybe Jake's sanity has snapped from the pressure of last year.
"Let me just-" Sinu edges away, moving toward the door. The quicker he seeks help for Jake, the better. "...I'll be right back. Don't hurt yourself, ok?"
Jake tilts his head in confusion as Sinu swiftly exits. What's up with him?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the 45 RPM single (1954), Tomaso Albinoni, Emanuel Ax, Mick Box (Uriah Heep), Sônia Braga, Barbara Bush, James Darren, Robert Fripp’s 1979 EXPOSURE album, Gabrielle Giffords, Greg Ginn (Black Flag), Don Grady, Fuzzy Haskins (Funkadelic), Annie Haslam, Mick Hucknall, Jan & Dean’s 1960 single “Little Old Lady From Pasadena,” Jakko Jakszyk, George Kirby, Paul McCartney & Wings (under-rated) 1979 BACK TO THE EGG album, Chuck Negron, George Orwell’s 1949 novel “1984,” Rob Pilatus, Robert Preston, Nick Rhodes, Tony Rice, Rolling Stones 1968 single “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” Boz Scaggs, Robert Schumann, Shilpa Shetty, Sturgill Simpson, Nancy Sinatra, Jerry Stiller, Derek Trucks, Bonnie Tyler, Frank Lloyd Wright, and a phenomenal award-winning artist, film-maker, painter, photographer and musician, Nathan Wagoner.
We go back to high school, when he had an enviable mane of hippie hair that could be seen by satellite, and he demonstrated that you didn’t have to be a star quarterback to be a chick magnet. His family warmly welcomed me into their home, feeding me with exotic meals and searing intelligence that made me feel safe and smart all at once. Yet, Nathan was no molly-coddling codependent soft-soaper—he would tongue-lash me and kick my a** when I needed it—what real friends do. We always had bands and music schemes going, none of which topped the charts, but they set the stage for work ethics. Nathan says, “Good painting does no work,” but in his images I see a continuum of brainstorms swooping in with timeless appointments and other unintended intersects, like cover art for LPs, novels, and films that haven’t been made yet—actually I’ve used his art in my music videos. Meanwhile, his stark photographs of “noir Pennsylvania” play with shadows and light in ways that are both startling and funny. See for yourself on his gallery site: https://nathanwagoner.com ...also check out his documentaries and short films https://www.youtube.com/@nwagoner ...and HB NW—thank you for raising the bar of creativity in sound and vision.

In bluegrass, as in life, Molly Tuttle would rather be a 'Crooked Tree'
February 3, 2023
Tuttle grew up in Palo Alto, Calif. – now in the heart of Silicon Valley. Her father is not in the tech industry.
Jack Tuttle did grow up playing bluegrass in rural Illinois. To hear his daughter tell it, he realized he didn't want to work on the family farm (the one celebrated on her song "Flatland Girl"), so he headed out to the San Francisco Bay Area, attracted in part by a progressive bluegrass movement driven by genre-straddlers such as David Grisman, Tony Rice and Grateful Dead co-founder Jerry Garcia.
In 1979, he found work teaching banjo, mandolin, fiddle and guitar full-time as a resident instructor at Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto.
One of Tuttle's early heroes, the pioneering bluegrass singer-songwriter Hazel Dickens, wrote a book called Working Girl Blues, which explained her songs and the stories behind them.On the song "Grass Valley," Tuttle sings about the wonder and attraction of those bluegrass festivals north of San Francisco she went to as a kid: "Deadheads and tie-dye array / Dawg music devotees / Like nothing I had ever heard or seen / It was jamgrass for the hippies / Old stuff from the fifties / Just about nothing in between," she sings.

Post's Serby Says NFL Awards goes to Justin Jefferson for MVP
Post’s Serby Says NFL Awards goes to Justin Jefferson for MVP
The annual Serby Says NFL Awards rail against the enduring preference for quarterbacks in the Most Valuable Player poll. Wide receivers and running backs are people too. MVP Justin Jefferson, Vikings No receiver has ever won that honor because a quarterback has won it 45 times since the AP started handing it out in 1957, and we all know why. Jerry Rice (64-1,078 with a career-best 22 touchdowns)…

Happy Birthday Kelly Marie, born in Paisley October 16th 1957, so she turns 65 today.
Born as Jacqueline McKinnon she won the Opportunity Knocks talent competition at the age of 15 singing the Lloyd Webber/Rice song I Don’t Know How to Love Him for four weeks in a row, but it was in France that she first enjoyed any success on vinyl when ‘Who’s The Lady With My Man?’ was awarded a gold disc, hitting the top five in 1976.
Kelly says  that it was a chance encounter with Ray Dorset of Mungo Jerry, that landed Kelly her most famous hit. : “We were both in the studio and he heard me singing and said that I had a great voice.“ He then said ‘I have this great song, do you want to try it?’ “He had written it for Elvis, apparently.“So we sat in a wee control room and he had his guitar and I sang it .“He asked me if I liked it and I said yes. “It was the highest selling single of 1980.”
It wasn’t until 1980 that Feels Like I’m In Love’ topped the UK singles charts
Minor hits followed with ‘Loving Just For Fun’, ‘Hot Love’ and ‘Love Trial’, before Kelly’s chart career came to an end.
But while her five-decade long career has taken her all over the world, Kelly Marie says she still feels connected to her hometown.
“Once a Buddie, always a Buddie,” Kelly says.
Even today, the disco hit has remained a huge part of pop culture, having featured in hit Channel 4 show It’s a Sin and even been the soundtrack to one of fast-food giant McDonald’s adverts in 2020, with Kelly adding:
Prior to the pandemic, she was still performing shows all over the world, including a final performance in New Jersey alongside the Jackson brothers before Covid-19 wreaked havoc on any other plans. There are no updates on what she is up to just now.

Butterfly Soup - Trivial Trivia Edition!
During the summer of 2020, CaptainScarth (an admin on the Butterfly Soup Wiki page) made a nearly impossible quiz with 69 questions about Butterfly Soup. I'll share some of the interesting facts I found, or some that you may not have considered! You can access the quiz here.
Trivia About The Game
It’s available in 9 languages: English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Czech, Bahas Indonesian, Polish, and Farsi
It was created with Ren’Py
It was released 16 September 2017
Its sequel was announced February 2018
It won the “Best Visual Novel of 2017″ award by PC Gamer
There are 9 butterflies and 10 hearts on the title screen
The first word of the game is “Diya”
Diya
Diya’s first dialogue line was: “What’s that supposed to mean.” This was after Hayden said Diya was more princess-like than Min.
Diya’s worst fear is disappointing her parents. This was mentioned when Min and Diya went to the Oakland Coliseum
Diya hates bittermelon
As a kid, Diya wanted 5 dogs. She said it would be like having 4 friends. Canonically, she ended up getting two as an adult
It had been 5 years since Diya last saw Min as kids
Diya is hard of hearing. She is deaf in her right ear from an infection when she was little. This is mentioned in Akarsha’s chapter when it was explained that Diya turned to hear Akarsha. It is also mentioned in Ask Batch #19
Diya is 5′10 in 9th grade (according to this FAQ) but she was still shorter than Chryssa
The name of Diya’s childhood team was the Collies
Diya’s food hierarchy is: Blue flavor > Peanut butter > Mango > Circle in the center
The last spoken word in Diya’s chapter was character. Noelle was complaining to Chryssa after Chryssa said “Suffering builds character!” to which Noelle responded “I don’t want character!”
The last unspoken sentence was Diya saying in her head: I guess we’re all playing baseball now? happily.
Noelle
The first time the player encounters Noelle, she brought a plastic baggy of grapes and a steel thermos of fried rice to lunch. The next day, she brought stir-fry with bittermelon
Noelle hates bittermelon
Noelle’s first line of dialogue was: “Diya! Help me!” She needed help opening a water bottle
Noelle and Diya became friends because Noelle gifted Diya her doughnut. Diya had thought that Noelle had always been there by default
Noelle set the dry pine needles on fire, not Jerry
The poem Noelle’s dad printed out in her room said “There is no success without hardship”
In Ask #10, it is said that Noelle plays right fielder. Chryssa and Liz put her there because less balls are tossed that way
Snakey’s (the plush Diya gave Noelle) sibling composition is two older brothers and a sister
Akarsha
Akarsha’s first dialogue line is “Ayy!”
Akarsha’s pee-pee time is before class
Akarsha plays shortstop (also in Ask #10)
The last spoken word in Akarsha’s chapter is “you.” This is because Akarsha says that Min likes Diya back and she will help Diya
Akarsha likes Ace Attorney, Zero Escape, and Nabari no Ou, as she suggested names for the caterpillar from these games (and one manga)
Min
Min’s first dialogue in the game was: “THIS IS THE WORST STORY IN HISTORY!”
Min made her imaginary gun (during a flashback to the summer between third and fourth grade) out of rocks
Min drew a giant dagger on her arm with Sharpie as a kid
Min would name her dog Skull Crusher (according to her conversation with Diya at the Oakland Coliseum)
Min and her family moved to Florida.
Min said she had to drink milkshakes instead of boba in Florida (Noelle was also shocked)
Min wanted a Corvette when she got older
Min cut her hair and stopped wearing dresses in grade 2
Min played Sonic Adventure 2 as a kid
Min is the older twin (this is mentioned in Min’s chapter when she refers to herself as ‘noona’ to Jun)
Min and Noelle were accidentally drinking pani at the buffet
Min used the insults lamp post, giraffe, long green bean, and Empire State Building to refer to Noelle
The last word spoken in Min’s chapter was “Bye.”
Miscellaneous
There are 9 people in the Baseball Club and 9 people on the Niles team
The name of the Baseball Club before it was changed was the Monarchs
There were only people who identify with female pronouns in the baseball club by coincidence
Akarsha and Min needed 392 more cents to buy Mario Party at GameStop
Ester’s first line of dialogue was: “Game dates? Who are we playing against?”
The first Baseball Club meeting was on Friday
Liz knows Diya from being at one of Diya’s games when they were little, but in actuality, she played against Diya before she transitioned. Liz didn’t want to out herself, which is why she said that. (Asks #16)
That’s it! At some point, I’ll probably make another post regarding specific trivia Brianna Lei had answered on her Asks that were not explicitly mentioned in the game. If you end up taking the quiz I linked, let me know what you got! (●'◡'●)

Iconic, Award-Winning Sports Pop Culture Artist John Costacos Unveils New Blockchain-based Digital Collectibles Company
Tumblr media
Iconic, award-winning pop culture artist John Costacos, who established a genre of sports art with his famed sports personality poster creations, along with co-founder and CEO Justin Moorad and Digital Art Director Mike Campau, today unveiled a new blockchain-based digital collectibles company, the Costacos Collection.
The Costacos Collection is partnering with an initial lineup of legendary NFL, MLB, and NBA players and their charitable foundations, including Warren Moon, Troy Aikman, Pudge Rodriguez, Jim McMahon, Roger Clemens, Will Clark, and others to be announced in the coming weeks. The Costacos Collection - the predecessor of which sold over 30,000,000 posters from 1986-96 - utilizes the blockchain medium to help the world’s greatest athletes capture their most significant moments, tell their most meaningful stories, and create new digital experiences to connect with fan communities. In addition to re-imagining John’s revered poster art, the Costacos Collection is creating new digital art as NFTs, with the tokens serving as the ticket to the company’s upcoming Hall of Fame Metaverse.
The Topps Company will also be a partner of the Collection, drawing on content from its vast historical archives and working with Costacos to create new content with Topps’ current-athlete partners.
CostacosCollection.com will serve as the gateway to the company’s listings as well as post-sale experiences, which will include communities and experiences exclusive to NFT owners. The company plans to fill the gap where Big Tech’s social media has failed: enabling fans to connect with and support their heroes directly. Through community engagement features, museum-style social displays, games, raffles and giveaways, trading and staking based on live and AI-generated sporting events, and the bridging of the digital with physical items and events, the company is pursuing a vision not held back by any one particular partnership or association.
“We believe in the long-term power of the technology,” said CEO Justin Moorad. “With a chain-agnostic approach, we’re able to form partnerships across the ecosystem - from the highest-quality art minted securely on Ethereum, to games built on Solana, to opportunities for proprietary fungible tokens, the Costacos Collection is building technology that positions our athletes at the center of the evolving landscape.”
John Costacos’ posters included imagery, slogans, and nicknames that stuck with players for the rest of their careers, including his first poster, Kenny Easley’s “The Enforcer,” the Oakland A’s “Bash Brothers,” Charles Barkley’s “Get Off My Backboard,” Jerry Rice’s “Goldfingers,” Michael Jordan’s “Space, The Final Frontier,” Joe Montana’s “The Golden Great,” Jim McMahon’s “Mad Mac,” Walter Payton’s “Chicago Vice,” Rickey Henderson’s “Man of Steal,” Troy Aikman’s “Strong Arm of the Law,” and many others with athletes such as Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Ken Griffey Jr., Bo Jackson, John Elway, Dominique Wilkins, and Magic Johnson. In addition to working with legacy athletes, Costacos will create new digital artwork with a growing number of today’s future Hall of Famers, Rookies of the Year, and Heisman-level college athletes.
"As an athlete of color and an entrepreneur, and as someone with roots in Seattle personally and professionally, nothing exuded cool more than a Costacos poster,” said Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon. “The Costacos Collection will now be able to recapture that cool in digital art, which is going to be fun for all the veteran athletes from all sports who became part of his 'must have collection' as well as for a new generation who will be engaging with this unique artwork for the first time. It's an honor to be part of this unveiling."
“My relationship with every athlete came from listening to their creative process and thinking of what we, as fans, would want to see, and that process has never really changed over the years,” Costacos said. “The growth of digital technology gives us an exciting chance not just to offer pieces in digital form, but to take them and retell the story with the athlete’s input now 20 years later, along with all-new digital art pieces.”
“John Costacos and his artwork helped expand the reach of the most legendary athletes of a generation to fans who knew us for being in unique artwork sometimes more than what we did on the field,” said Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez. “Now being able to revisit that artwork as NFTs will open new doors for fans who can collect the pieces yet again. I know for the LatinX audience that craves connecting with its heroes, this will be a fun and unique experience that should open more opportunities for NFTs as well."

[The image on the facing page is a marble sculpture titled St. Teresa in Ecstasy, by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, finished in 1652. It is in the Roman church of Santa Maria della Vittoria. It features Theresa in a state of ecstasy as an angel descends to plunge his hands into her heart.]
Reference explanations:
Most of these references are based off of news articles Richey read in 1994, either general summary-like references or nearly direct quotes from articles, mostly from The Indepedent.*
The Stephen Hawking quote is from a speech he gave at Boston's Macworld Expo quoted in the 4th August 1994 issue of the Daily News. A similar quote is in his 1996 lecture Life In The Universe.
Stonehenge is a prehistoric ring of standing stones. It’s managed by English Heritage and owned by the Crown. It is associated with death and burial, and bodies have been excavated in the area around the site. It is aligned to the sunset of the winter solstice and the opposing sunrise of the summer solstice. The “underground car park” line is a reference to proposal made in 1994 to close the A303 and turn the road into an underground tunnel that will pass directly under the site of Stonehenge itself. (Apparently said proposal was approved November 2020.)
I think “Wyle” is a misspelling of “Wylye”, which is a river in south west England. River Bourne is nearby; both go through Wiltshire county. Said county contains the Salisbury Plain, which also contains Stonehenge. The Rivers Wylye and Bourne are both part of the Hampshire Avon catchment. In August ‘94 the county was granted a multi-million pound package to protect the catchment from pollution and monitor buildings developments and water flow rates.
The “queen mother” line may refer to the Queen Mother’s 90th birthday parade in 1990. The Queen mother celebrated her 94th birthday in 1994, and a few informal photos of her were released in The Mirror in an article about it.
“Three strikes yr out – execution – pizza” is a reference to the “three strikes rule” proposed in California. A rule was proposed 1994 and passed in 1995 that allowed someone to be sentenced to life in prison if it was their third repeat offense, and if they had a previous conviction for a violent offense. A man named Jerry Dewayne Williams was arrested July 30 1994 for stealing a slice of pizza and due to this law was later sentenced to 25 years to life.
Mount Spurr is an Alaskan mountain. Its last volcanic eruption was 1992. Dante II was a spider-like robot from NASA that explored Mt Spurr’s volcanic crater in order to gather information and entered the crater in July 1994. It managed to gather information but on the way out of the crater, got stuck in the mud and fell back into the crater. Not sure if “Dante III” is a mis-type.
Dante’s Inferno is about the main eponymous character entering Hell and traversing its rings in order to reach purgatory and then paradise to find his lover Beatrice.
“Increased plastic surgery for pubic hair” is a reference to an article in the The Independent on 27 August 1994 which talked about men getting plastic surgery and liposuction. (The article is titled “Men who want a perfect body,” which certainly hits upon one of Richey’s preoccupations.) It mentions that there are “more and more images for men to look at, in much the same way female images have been pushed for years.” In a paragraph about penis enlargement surgery, it mentions that a complication from said surgery can be ingrown pubic hairs.
“Sanitation police, crime of proportion.” is likely a reference to an article by Zoe Heller called “How I fell foul of New York’s sanitation police.” The Sanitation Police in NY are responsible for dealing with things like theft of recyclables, littering, illegal dumping, improper disposal of solid waste, etc. They can issue summonses for citizens who mix recyclable and non-recyclable materials (which, from what I can gather, is what the Heller article is about).
Ian Paisley was a loyalist politician and Protestant religious leader in Northern Ireland. He promoted a form of Biblical literalism and anti-Catholicism, which he described as “Bible Protestantism” In the mid-late 1960s, he led and instigated loyalist opposition to the Catholic civil rights movement in Northern Ireland. Throughout the Troubles, Paisley was seen as a firebrand and the face of hardline unionism. He opposed all attempts to resolve the conflict through power-sharing between unionists and Irish nationalists/republicans, and all attempts to involve the Republic of Ireland in Northern affairs. A retrospective article about him was published in The Independent in September 1994.
Ecumenism is any effort aimed at the unity of Christians throughout the world. Most often, it specifically means the visible unity of Christian churches in some form.
“Cenotaph bombers” is a reference to the Remembrance Day Bombing that took place 8 November 1987 in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. An IRA bomb was detonated near a war memorial during a Remembrance Sunday ceremony. 11 people were killed and 63 injured. The IRA’s target had been soldiers parading to the memorial, not civilians. In August 1994, a ceasefire was announced by the Provisional IRA. In reaction to the ceasefire, Ian Paisley claimed that Northern Ireland would plummet into civil war.
“Soviet labour medals sold for Coca Cola.” The Soviet Union had medals for labour to honor workers for many years of hard work in the national economy, sciences, culture, education, manufacturing, healthcare, government agencies and public organizations. It was established in 1974 and stopped being awarded in 1991 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. There was an article in The Independent on 5 April 1994 about a new British embassy being built in Berlin. It mentioned that the Russian embassy was next door, and that Russian traders would sit across the street from the embassy and sell post-war bric-a-brac like Lenin flags and Hero Of Socialist Labour medals.
“82 million watch Gorilla Meets Whale” is a reference to Godzilla, because the original Japanese name “Gojira” is a portmanteau of the words “gorira” (gorilla) and “kojira” (whale). By 1994, over 82 million people had seen the first 20 Godzilla films. Richey got that figure from an article  in The Independent about the cultural history of the films and their critique of environmental and economic problems. The other thing I could find was a reference to the fact that Godzilla represented Japanese fear of nuclear testing etc: On March 1, 1954, the U.S. conducted a hydrogen bomb test called Bravo shot at Rongelap Atoll in the Marshall Islands. As a result of this nuclear test radioactive dust fell not only on many Marshall Islanders but famously on a Japanese tuna fishing boat called the 5th Lucky Dragon, irradiating all twenty-three fishermen. The effect of these nuclear tests on Japanese, a who had previously experienced the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the heels of the destruction by bombing of virtually all other major cities, was to strengthen anti-nuclear sentiments, giving rising to a powerful anti-nuclear movement that spread across Japan in the form of a citizens’ petition initiated by women opposing nuclear tests. The petition, the largest of its kind ever, was signed by 32 million Japanese. That August, the first Conference Against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs was held in Hiroshima. The 5th Lucky Dragon became the model for the boat called “Eiko Maru” attacked by Godzilla.
Herman the bull was the first genetically modified bovine in the world. Scientists injected the embryo with human gene coding for lactoferrin. Eight calves were born from Herman in 1994. All calves inherited the lactoferrin production gene.
Tracy the sheep was a transgenically modified sheep in Scotland, made to produce alpha 1-antitrypsin, which is a substance that was regarded in the 1990s as a potential pharmaceutical for the treatments of emphysema and cystic fibrosis. Alpha 1-antitrypsin comprised 50% of the total protein in Tracy’s milk.
“Attention, today it’s a cow, tomorrow it’s you” is an almost direct copy of an anti-genetic modification poster from the Dutch society for prevention of cruelty of animals, which portrays a topless woman with udders in place of breasts over the caption: 'Today a cow, tomorrow you.”
Punch and Judy was a traditional puppet show. It was usually very violent, with the characters of Punch and Judy (or Punch and another character) fighting and hitting each other. It is handled by a single puppeteer, and audiences are encourage to participate a la panto. It comes from commedia dell’arte.
“Only rice price” may be a reference to a 1976 film called Network. I may be making connections where there aren’t any, though. “What’s that got to do with the price of [blank]?” is a well known phrase (usually it’s “the price of tea in China”). In Network, “the price of rice” is the phrase used. The main character is a new broadcaster whose channel is failing, and he threatens to commit suicide on air. This causes the channel viewing to go up, so the heads of the channel decide to exploit this and allow the character to say whatever he wants and generally spew angry tirades. Eventually he is killed. But the “rice price” line comes from a monologue in which the character berates those watching the show, and tells them that they never read books or newspapers and that television is not news, it’s entertainment and amusement parks. Television is described as being able to make or break people, and as “indifferent to suffering, insensitive to joy. All of life is reduced to the common rubble of banality.”
Giant Haystacks was a wrestler in the 70s. He was 6′11″ and weigh 638 pounds. There’s no info about him ever being in a fight in Bombay. The “Bombay fight” line could be a reference to the Bombay Riots that occurred in 92/93, but again there doesn’t seem to be any connection to Giant Haystacks.
Stephen Hawking is a theoretical physicist and cosmologist. He suffered from ALS or motor neuron disease, which left him paralyzed and necessitated the use of a speech-generating communication device. He worked with theories on relativity and black holes (which I do not understand and could not explain because I am not a scientist.) In 1988 he wrote A Brief History Of Time. He died in 2018.
The sexual revolution was a social movement started in the 60s and continued through 80s which challenged certain sexual and relationship norms/conventions. It argued for freedom to sex before marriage, right to abortions and the pill or other forms of contraception, normalization of pornography, homosexuality, other forms of sexuality, and public nudity.
*Many, many thanks to a reddit user who messaged me with all of this new information!  They did a ton of research and found all these references in old newspaper archives and 80s/90s BBC documentaries, which I never would have thought to check.

Kobe Bryant: The Greatest Laker of All-time
Originally published on Facebook, on December 2, 2015

NBA Finals Game 7: Boston Celtics v Los Angeles Lakers
LOS ANGELES - JUNE 17: Kobe Bryant #24 of the Los Angeles Lakers celebrates after winning over the Boston Celtics in Game Seven of the 2010 NBA Finals on June 17, 2010 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and/or using this Photograph, user is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. Mandatory Copyright Notice: Copyright 2010 NBAE (Photo by Nathaniel S Butler/NBAE via Getty Images)In 1996, a young Kobe Bean Bryant was drafted by the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets straight out of high school and was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers (a trade that would be a monumental blessing for the franchise in years to come, considering the fact that Shaq had also signed with the Lakers that very same season)
His impact on his team and the league would be significant to say the least. Despite scoring a record 31 points in 1996-97 Rookie All-Stars game, he would not be awarded Rookie All-Star MVP award because of AI’s all-round performance in leading East Rookie All-Stars to victory that night but that was more than enough to get the attention of seasoned Basketball pundits not to write him off
So today is the day when Kobe announced that 2015-16 will be his last season in the NBA, many of us have been struck with the thought that what makes this player one of NBA’s greats as well as the greatest Laker in franchise history?
Simply, he’s the only Laker to lead his team to 2 NBA Championships in 2008-09 & 2009-10 seasons. The latter championship was won by defeating a star studded cast of Boston Celtics led by Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen with Coach Doc Rivers at the helm
Unlike Lakers Dynasties of the past, with the exception of Minneapolis Lakers led by George Mikan, every Laker team won a championship whilst having at least 2 power-houses on the floor. I’ll start with 1971-72 Lakers:
Team Chamberlain-West
When Wilt had joined the Lakers in 1968-69 season, he was welcomed by Jerry West and Elgin Baylor as his team mates. Both West and Baylor had had unsuccessful runs at the NBA Finals thanks to Red Auerbach’s Boston Celtics with Bill Russell at its core
Elgin due to his injuries retired at the start of 1971-72 season. No one expected an ageing team minus Baylor to be able to make it to the Final round of the playoffs, let alone win a championship BUT West and Chamberlain not only led their team to a championship against New York Knicks but also set monumental records such as winning 33 consecutive games in a season (which remains to this day) and winning the most games in a season, 69-13 (a record that was broken by 1995-96 Chicago Bulls), to name a few
Despite what was accomplished by the team, had it not been for the duo of West-Chamberlain (All-Stars, future Hall of Famers, future 50 Greatest Players of all-time); this record-breaking championship drive would not have been possible at all
Showtime Lakers
Many will argue that Kareem and/or Magic is/are the greatest Laker(s) of all-time. Many will point out the fact that a rookie Magic Johnson was able to fill in as a center (despite being a point guard) for an injured Abdul Jabbar in the crucial game 6 of 1979-80 Finals, not just against any team but the team of Philadelphia 76ers led by Dr. J
But we need to remember that Magic was in a team of All-Star veterans which included the likes of Jamaal Wilkes, Spencer Haywood; players who were senior to him in experience and let’s not forget that Abdul Jabbar (another senior, a legend) was out for 2 games in the best of 7 series i.e. he was with Magic in games 1, 2 and 3 that allowed Lakers to gain a 3-2 advantage. The title clinching game was one by a team of vets with Magic as their ‘jewel in the crown’ whereas the 2009 & 2010 titles were won by a team of youngsters who lacked championship or play-off experience similar to that of Kobe
With regards to Showtime Lakers’ 1985, ‘87 & ‘88 titles, they defeated their bitter rivals, the Boston Celtics, at Boston Garden (something unimaginable at the time) but both teams were at par with one another in terms of talent. If there were Bird, McHale and Parish on one side then there were Magic, Kareem and Worthy on the other unlike in 2010 finals, a super-star Kobe was up against Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen (all 3 being All-Stars with tremendous amount of playoffs experience)
Shaq-Kobe era
In 1996-97 season, Shaquille O’Neal signed with the Los Angeles Lakers but that didn’t result in an immediate championship run. The Lakers, despite adding 2 time NBA Champion (w/ Houston Rockets) Robert Horry and veteran Celtic Rick Fox, were still struggling to move beyond Conference Semi-Finals because of giants like Stockton and Malone’s Utah Jazz followed by Robinson & Duncan’s San Antonio Spurs
With the addition of 3-point Champion Glenn Rice, 3 time NBA Champion (w/ Chicago Bulls) Horace Grant & hiring of Phil Jackson (8 time NBA Champion, twice as a player with New York Knicks and 6 times as Head Coach of Chicago Bulls) as Head Coach for the team, did the franchise’s fortunes turn-around
Coach Phil’s signature Triangle Offense & Defense strategies, proved as successful for the Lakers as they did for Chicago Bulls in the 90s but like all strategies, key components are needed for their flawless execution and this particular team had a huge experienced talent i.e. Playoffs, Finals and otherwise
If Shaq was the X-Factor, the team would had been a championship contender in the late 90s rather than see itself get sidelined by Jazz and Spurs
Why not Mikan?
What George Mikan was to the BAA/NBA in the 50s is what Dr. J was to the league in the 70s and Michael Jordan was in the 90s. He was NBA’s 1st Superstar, someone who helped popularize the game and the league when American sports scene was dominated by Boxing, Baseball and Pro Football (NFL)
He is without a doubt the 1st greatest Laker to make his mark on the league and the sport of Basketball. He’s the league’s 1st ever ‘BIG Man’ to set foot on the court but worth noting are the facts that he:
competed in a league that only had 11 teams
didn’t have a direct competitor in any of the rival teams at the time. The only big man who came close to him was Power Forward Bob Petit of St. Louis Hawks. By the time Bill Russel and Wilt Chamberlain entered the league, Mikan was coaching Minneapolis Lakers
Bryant’s Laker Legacy
Kobe Bryant is a David in the Lakers’ world of Goliaths. He is not 6’9” (rather a shooting guard team leader similar to but not like Michael Jordan) which makes him unlikely to benefit from his height similar to Mikan, Chamberlain, Kareem and Shaq (he is shorter than Magic and Worthy) and/or weight/strength similar to Chamberlain and Shaq (again). He made history by leading a much younger and much in-experienced team to 2 consecutive NBA championships without support from a fellow legend/superstar on the court. He proved himself to be the X-Factor which West, Chamberlain, Kareem, Magic and Shaq struggled to do so
Thanks to his leadership in 2008-09 & 2009-10 seasons, the Lakers franchise is only 1 championship away from tying Boston’s record of 17 Championships

Harold O’Neal
Tumblr media
Harold Mujahid O'Neal FRSA (born March 27, 1981) is an American composer, pianist, actor, dancer, and public speaker. He has recorded and performed with artists in a variety of musical genres (U2, Lupe Fiasco, Busta Rhymes, Damien Rice, Aloe Blacc, and Jay Z). O'Neal has been compared to Duke Ellington and Maurice Ravel by The New York Times and is considered to be of this generation's greatest pianists and composers. In 2019, he was inducted into the Royal Society of the Arts with the Patron being Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Career
Harold O'Neal was born in Arusha, Tanzania, and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. His great-grandfather, Ollie Harold Pennington, was a jazz pianist and composer for silent film in Kansas City, where his grandmother walked to school with Charlie Parker. Harold began playing the piano by ear at age 4 on his father's miniature keyboard. He found his earliest inspirations in the music of Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, and Disney. While growing up, his family had a tradition of playing games together to find the distinct rhythms of songs. Having spent much of his youth living in the projects (Public Housing) and surviving near-death experiences, he credits music with saving his life.
O'Neal attended the Paseo Academy Of Fine And Performing Arts, with classmates Logan Richardson, Lil' Ronnie, and Brian Kennedy, where he began his jazz piano studies while being mentored by Ahmad Alaadeen. He studied classical piano and composition with Margie Cameron-Jarrett, whose musical lineage can be traced back to Franz Liszt. He began working with musical luminaries from a young age — touring the world with Bobby Watson when he was 19 after studying composition at the Berklee College Of Music. He then went on to study at the Manhattan School of Music. It was there where Harold met the great American jazz pianist and composer, Andrew Hill, with whom he soon became the apprentice of. Mr. Hill was an apprentice of prolific composer Paul Hindemith. Following Andrew Hill's advice, O'Neal left the Manhattan School of Music to replace pianist Jason Moran in the influential band, the Greg Osby 4, making his major-label debut recording for Blue Note Records at the age of 21. In 2004, O'Neal premiered a jazz quartet featuring Greg Osby, Jeff "Tain" Watts, and Matt Brewer.
In the following years, O'Neal released a number of albums including "Charlie's Suite" (2006), which was a compilation of his family's legacy, "Whirling Mantis" (2010) with a jazz quartet and a solo piano album "Marvelous Fantasy" (2011) on Smalls Records. He then partnered with Ski Beats and Damon Dash, after being signed to Universal Music Group as a songwriter and producer, to release the albums 24 Hour Karate School 2 (2011), Twilight (2012) and Cam'Ron And Vado's Blu Tops (2012). In 2012, O'Neal formed a partnership with producers Lil Ronnie and Jerry Wonda working with many Pop and R&B artists (Miguel, Akon, Melissa Ethridge, Raphael Saadiq, French Montana). In 2013, he released the album "Man On The Street" featuring a jazz quartet as well as solo piano for Universal. O'Neal worked as an additional composer on the 2015 Disney film Tomorrowland with Anthony Giacchino, which starred George Clooney and Britt Robertson. The film was directed by Brad Bird with the bulk of the film-score being composed by Michael Giacchino. His solo piano album "Piano Cinema" was released in May 2018, with "Sam and Sam" serving as the lead single. Following the album release, O'Neal completed a spring tour across the U.S. with The Blk Shp with Pixar as a partner.

Will Trump and His Enablers Ever Face Accountability for the Coronavirus Massacre?
The Iraq War is not a good precedent.

They misrepresented the threat. They disregarded experts. They did not prepare adequately. And thousands of Americans died.
And they got away with it.
The implementers, cheerleaders, and enablers of the catastrophic Iraq War were never punished for their actions. It’s not too early to wonder if Donald Trump and those who joined him in discounting and downplaying the coronavirus threat or who were part of his lethal mismanagement of the crisis or who echoed his false statements and absurd claims of winning will ever pay a price for conduct that has led to a current death toll of 12,000, which could end up a magnitude of order greater.
Advertise with Mother Jones
The Iraq War and occupation, a strategic blunder of historic proportions that was mismanaged from the start, caused the deaths of almost 5,000 US service members and about 200,000 Iraqi civilians. And it was all for naught. There was no WMD threat to neutralize. The invasion did not remake the region and spread democracy. It wreaked chaos and violent instability that continue to plague Iraq and the world.
Yet the architects and engineers of this epic disaster never faced a reckoning. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were reelected, and after their second term was done, they were rewarded with lucrative book contracts, as was former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Paul Wolfowitz, the assistant secretary of defense, became the president of the World Bank. Bush went on to become a pal of Michelle Obama. Ari Fleischer, Bush’s press secretary, was hired as a media consultant for the NFL. National security adviser Condoleezza Rice returned to academia and public speaking and served on the college football playoff selection committee. Columnists who championed the war—Thomas Friedman, David Brooks, the editorial writers of the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal—kept their prestigious and well-paying jobs. The dogs of war who howled on Fox News and within the conservative media were not punished. Sean Hannity, a month before the 2003 invasion, declared, “We’re going to go in and we’re going to liberate this country in a few weeks and it’s going to be over very quickly…We’re going to find all of the weapons of mass destruction.” Today, Hannity is the biggest, highest-paid loudmouth at Fox. Democratic legislators who voted in 2002 to provide Bush the leeway to launch the war were not banished. Two won their party’s presidential nomination (John Kerry and Hillary Clinton), and a third (Joe Biden) is on his way to do the same.
There has never been true accountability for this massive screwup that cost thousands of Americans their lives.
Will that happen again?
It is undeniable (for any reality-based observer) that Trump botched the response to the coronavirus pandemic. A recent Washington Post article depicted this tragedy of incompetence in painful detail. And Twitter is loaded with videos showing Trump repeatedly uttering false statements, discounting the coronavirus threat, and claiming the virus was contained. For weeks, he conveyed the message that there was nothing to worry about. He was late to accept the need for social distancing and did not encourage governors to implement necessary shutdowns. He claimed a national testing system was about to start. It never happened, and his administration has failed to develop wide-scale testing. He did not move quickly to prepare health care workers with needed personal protective equipment and ventilators. He essentially told governors they were on their own.

The most recent of all the revelations showcasing Trump’s ineptitude was especially stark. In late January, White House aide Peter Navarro sent Trump a memo noting, “There is an increasing probability of a full-blown COVID-19 pandemic that could infect as many as 100 million Americans, with a loss of life of as many as 1-2 million souls.” The warning never registered with Trump.
There has been an endless series of profound errors committed by Trump and his administration prior to and during this horrific crisis. Then–national security adviser John Bolton shut down the White House’s global health security office in 2018; the Trump team ignored a pandemic playbook left for it by the Obama administration. And Trump, the malignant narcissist, has, to no one’s surprise, explicitly rejected all responsibility for the glaring missteps and deadly miscalculations. Instead, he has boasted about the ratings for his daily press briefings.
Trump and adoring sidekick Mike Pence will face a moment of judgment in November, when voters will render a verdict. But what of all the others who helped make this moment of mass-death possible? The Dear Leader crowd that supports Trump no matter what has echoed, protected, defended, and bolstered him as he has guided the nation into a nightmare of economic calamity and rampant death. You know who they are. (If not, watch this.) White House advisers Kellyanne Conway and Larry Kudlow—who each will likely look for remunerative gigs after their time with Trump—both claimed the coronavirus was “contained.” Trump’s newly acquired press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, proclaimed in February, “We will not see diseases like the coronavirus come here..and isn’t it refreshing when contrasting it with the awful presidency of President Obama.” Rush Limbaugh told his millions of Dittohead listeners that the coronavirus was no worse than the “common cold.” (Should he give back the Medal of Freedom Trump awarded him in February?) Numerous Fox-heads, including Hannity and Laura Ingraham, misled the public, reinforcing Trump’s insistence that the threat was a hoax and discounting the seriousness of this virus. Only Trish Regan was booted by Fox after she derided what she called the “coronavirus impeachment scam.” The others have remained in place.
Then there is the Republican Party. None of its leaders have dared to challenge Trump, as he misrepresented the threat and lied about his administration’s response. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) encouraged his constituents to ignore calls for social distancing and to go to restaurants. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) mocked concerns about the virus by wearing a gas mask on the House floor. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) never publicly questioned Trump’s multiple blunders, and they continued to lead their party in a cultlike manner of total obeisance to Trump. Many others share the blame. Conservative and right-wing evangelical leaders, including Jerry Falwell Jr. of Liberty University and Matt Schlapp of the American Conservative Union, reinforced the no-big-deal theme that was pushed by Trump’s White House and have considered Trump faultless.
Advertise with Mother Jones
So with thousands of Americans dying in part because of Trump’s feckless and reckless response, who will be held responsible? Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who prosecuted the impeachment case against Trump, has proposed creating a coronavirus commission like the 9/11 commission that investigated all the mistakes and misconceptions that preceded that horrible attack. The 9/11 commission produced a detailed and elegantly written report that offered a stunning indictment of the Bush-Cheney administration and the US intelligence community. (Still, Bush and Cheney were reelected.) But one can expect Trump, the Republicans, and their amen choir to rabidly oppose Schiff’s idea (as Bush opposed establishing the 9/11 commission).
American society does not do accountability well. The instigators of the Iraq War did not suffer. Nor did the bankers who crashed the US economy in 2008. We do have elections, and Trump, Pence, and their Republican handmaids will be on the ballot in seven months. But what of the Fox barkers, the conservative movement that has become no more than a promotion vehicle for Trumpjackery, and the entire right-wing noise machine? With their obsessive devotion to Trump, they all have helped pave the way to a national massacre. Will they be able to wash the blood off their hands? Can a large and deplorable slice of the national political media apparatus be judged guilty of murderous culpability and locked up (metaphorically)?
“Nations should have memories,” Frederick Douglass once said. But Gore Vidal frequently referred to the “United States of Amnesia.” And the past is not a good prelude for accountability. Too often the culprits who contributed to death and destruction end up skating along, even experiencing personal benefit. At this moment, the priority for the nation is to rise above Trump’s incompetence and contend with a killer virus that is robbing us of our friends, neighbors, and loved ones and causing severe economic and societal dislocation. But there ought to come a time for a tallying: who did what when, during a life-and-death national crisis. And it is not too early to be collecting receipts. None of this should be forgotten.

New England Patriots: Super Bowl LIII Champions
Tumblr media
ATLANTA -- Tom Brady led a fourth-quarter touchdown drive to lift New England over the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII, with the 13-3 final standing as the lowest outcome in Super Bowl history. Here's what we learned as the Patriots tied the Pittsburgh Steelers for most ever Lombardi Trophies (6):
1. With apologies to connoisseurs of prodigious punting displays, nobody tunes into the biggest stage in American sports to watch defensive coordinators locked in a battle of gridiron chess for three hours. Both quarterbacks struggled from the outset, with Tom Brady's perennial first-quarter Super Bowl woes growing infectious. The Rams were shut out at halftime for the first time in the Sean McVay era. The six points combined were the fewest after three quarters in Super Bowl history.
Pining for points with just under 10 minutes remaining, a crowd heavily slanted toward the Patriots began a "Brady, Brady, Brady" chant as their hero took the field at the 31-yard line. The greatest quarterback of all time proceeded to unfurl his two best throws of the night, dialing up a Canton connection with Rob Gronkowski for gorgeous plays of 18 and 29 yards. The latter of the two gems put New England on the doorstep of the end zone, giving Sony Michel an easy scoring opportunity and the go-ahead touchdown. The Rams were driving for the answer when Stephon Gilmore stepped in front of Brandin Cooks near the right pylon to intercept the potential tying score.
"You know it was an unbelievable year," Brady told CBS after the game. "We just fought through it more so than anything. It's unbelievable to win this game. They played so well, the Rams' defense they played their butts off. What a great defense, they had a great plan. They made it tough on every play. We just kept fighting and finally got a touchdown. The [Patriots] defense played the best game of the year."
2. Awarded Super Bowl LIII Most Valuable Player honors, slot receiver Julian Edelman is starting to inspire Hall of Fame discussions himself. A chain-moving machine, Edelman bedeviled Wade Phillips' otherwise impressive defense with eight first downs en route to 141 yards on 10 receptions. For the first 50 minutes of game time, he was the only weapon firing on either offense. It's a credit not only to his mind meld with Brady on option routes, but also to his rare mix of agility, toughness and run-after-catch elusiveness. After passing Hall of Famer Michael Irvin in the second quarter, Edelman now stands second only to San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice with 1,412 receiving yards in the postseason. Gronkowski, meanwhile, ranks first among tight ends in postseason receptions (81), yards (1,163) and touchdowns (12).
3. Miami Dolphins faithful must be excited at the prospect of stealing linebackers coach Brian Flores away from the AFC East end boss. Teaming with defensive mastermind Bill Belichick, Flores put on a game-planning and play-calling clinic in the postseason, confusing opposing passers with line stunts, timely blitzes and an interchangeable cadre of pass rushers. The Patriots are the first team since the iconic 1985 Chicago Bears to hold their opponents to a total of seven points or fewer in the first halves of three consecutive playoff games.

Yeah, that last one. "I Want Sweet" by Aaron Carter. Although it was initially recorded by The Strangegloves in 1965, most children are much more familiar with the 2000 blog edition.

I would see myself, ideally, with some CDs out. You know, making some CDs, heading someplace, and being in a position to carry out for individuals. I truly picture myself sometime like that. I want to write more tunes, include much more tunes. Just maintain operating at it. I began to create my usual "Dancing with the Stars" evaluation when I all of a sudden realized that I didn't really feel like doing it. For the initial time since the ABC television show began, I truly wasn't that intrigued in what experienced happened or even what was going to happen in the subsequent weeks. That was a mild bulb moment for me. Ashley Hamilton will be competing towards a lot of talented celebs, they are: Donny Osmond, more, Debbi Mazar, Chuck Liddell, Louie Vito, Macy Gray, Melissa Joan Hart, Mark Dacascos, Michael Irvin, Mya, Natalie Coughlin, Tom Delay, Joanna Krupa, Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Eire.

Yes, Miley Cyrus' newest video was premiered next, but I'm ignoring it. I'm not pleased with her. Disney and pole dancing don't belong in the exact same sentence, states this mama. The last two elements of the evening were "relay dances," in which four pairs of partners at a time competed, with the judges naming initial through fourth place winners and awarding factors in accordance to placement. In the salsa relay, it was Donny Osmond, Ashley Hamilton ,Louie Vito and Chuck Lidell. Osmond received the greatest from the judges.
