Good news for my same sex attracted sisters.
Lesbian dating app to use facial recognition to exclude trans women from matching with biological females
By SANCHEZ MANNING and SUE REID
PUBLISHED: 19:03 EDT, 1 June 2024
The first dating app for lesbians is set to launch – using sex-recognition technology to exclude trans women and ensure only biological females can sign up.
It is the brainchild of feminist campaigner Jenny Watson, who says there are currently no dating apps which cater purely for women who want same-sex relationships.
The current crop of dating apps, she says, are increasingly being used by males who identify as female and who say they too are lesbian.
L'App will use facial recognition technology to verify a person as a biological female.
Ms Watson said would-be users will have to go through a process when they sign up where the app scans their face via their smartphone.
It is the brainchild of feminist campaigner Jenny Watson (pictured), who says there are currently no dating apps which cater purely for women who want same-sex relationships
The software, which Ms Watson claims is 99 per cent accurate, analyses features including bone structure, the shape and positioning of an individual's eyes, eyebrows and nose shape or size. It will also be able to detect if a person is presenting a live image rather than just putting a photo of a woman up to the camera by detecting movement, blinking motions and heat emissions.
Tests have revealed that if someone tries to disguise themselves as a woman by putting on a wig or make-up, the technology will spot the deception.
Ms Watson, 32, a town planner, told The Mail on Sunday: 'There is no female-only dating apps at the moment. Lesbians need an app which they can use without being messaged by trans-identifying males.'
She said L'App had also been developed in response to many lesbians finding that they were being banned from existing apps if they dared to specify that they wanted to date only natal females. Speaking about her own personal experience, she said: 'Any time I've joined a lesbian dating app or any other dating app myself, I get banned.
'To avoid trans-identified males, I will always write a little blurb, nothing disrespectful, saying my preference is for women and please respect my boundaries.
'And every time I do that I get banned. On one app I was asked to put down my most controversial opinion, so I wrote that J. K. Rowling was right and was banned for that. It's insane.'
Ms Watson has previously campaigned to protect lesbian spaces, by hosting female-only speed dating nights. She plans to open UK's first single-sex lesbian bar.
She has been criticised as transphobic for excluding transgender women – which she rejects. Her launch comes as a court case is being heard in Australia over whether a trans woman can be lawfully excluded from a female-only social networking app called Giggle.

as i gaze upon your blog i wonder, “what the hell is taskmaster?” i’d journey the lands of safari but its much better to hear the words of insight from the enjoyer. quite interested in the au tho, tempted to watch this thingamabob because of it. i like hearing your ramblings about your fave doodabs and whatchamajigits. i am determined to return to you with the holy gift of a singular hilda but finals are kicking my ass and i’m learning a new art program. while i wait i’d love to be graced by your words :3
HI ANON!! first of all good luck with finals and your new art program i hope everything turns out BEAUTIFULLY for you don't forget to have fun!!
i'm so glad you asked! taskmaster is a ridiculously entertaining gameshow that originated here in the uk with other versions in other countries. it's super fun to make aus/character studies around the tasks because they're so telling of personality!
the format of the show is - 5 comedians per season are set tasks by host greg davies (6'8" ex-schoolteacher, and it shows) and creator/cohost alex horne (the brains behind it, but onscreen is very weaselly/neeky and generally picked-on).
each episode begins with a prize task, in which contestants must bring in prizes to be won by the winner each day - the most high-octane item, the thing that makes the best noise, the most difficult thing to take home. prizes range from body parts to furnished bathroom sets. these, along with every other task, are scored in the studio from 1-5 points. the rest of the tasks are filmed beforehand mostly in one house, individually and sometimes in teams, and are incredibly arbitrary, silly, confusing or difficult:
eat as much watermelon in 60 seconds. eat an egg the fastest (it starts raw). interview, then write and perform a song about this stranger. conceal an entire pineapple on your person. take three huge exercise balls to the top of this large hill. make the biggest mess, then clean it up. get this object as far away from here as possible. go the longest time without blinking.
sarah kendall purposefully, blindfoldedly, throws her own house and car keys into the trees in front of the building. james acaster gets taken aside onstage to be told off by greg like a schoolboy. respected academic richard osman throws a shopping trolley into a river in a fit of rage (it is retrieved). nish kumar and mark watson write a genuinely beautiful song together. bob mortimer makes a floor-size chart documenting the amount of piss produced across britain.
the episodes end with a live task in the studio in front of the audience. the show allows the contestants to genuinely go off the rails with comedic creativity and problem solving, and it's SO fun to impose characters onto this template. person gets presented with task -> completes task as they see fit -> is judged on their actions -> reacts to the judgement. like if you want to develop an oc. look no further!! put them on taskmaster in your brain.
every contestant, whether it be famous comedians, up-and-coming stand-ups, or actors & presenters, really shine in taskmaster. people who i don't really find funny become entertaining and i root for them simply because of the genius format of the show.
it gets gross, argumentative, tense, earnest, and never ever loses the clownish spirit and light-heartedness of the meaningless and hilarious program it sets out to be. greg davies is ruthlessly harsh with points, alex horne is endlessly nitpicky and often bullied, and they frequently bring up fanfiction written about the two of them for some fucking reason. they embody such perfectly fine-tuned characters, only to break them constantly to laugh at the show.
if anyone (no one) wants to know a few of my fav contestants rn they are:
sam campbell, lucy beaumont, sarah kendall, bob mortimer, nish kumar, james acaster, and the ENTIRE freakish family team dynamic of frankie boyle, ivo graham, jenny eclaire, kiell smith-bynoe, and mae martin
thank you anon :-) i'm sorry this was so long i hope you didnt mind reading it all and it told u what u wanted to know!!

We should first recognize that Einstein barely saw China at all: he only stopped briefly in Shanghai and Hong Kong. And his diaries are a mixture of appreciation – “One has to love and admire this country”, he said of Japan – along with bewilderment and stock stereotypes. It’s the familiar response of a European alienated by cultural, linguistic and emotional difference. That he buys into the common belief of his times in a “national character” is neither surprising nor especially deplorable – but from there it’s only a small step to accepting a hierarchy of races. Einstein clearly did so, though Rosenkranz doubts it amounted to anything like a full-blown and coherent racist ideology.
All the same, such views seem rightly repugnant by today’s standards, and it’s a shame that Einstein – a progressive, tolerant internationalist – wasn’t able to transcend them. But it’s curious that this should bother us so much.
It’s not as if Einstein was previously deemed a paragon. It’s no secret that his treatment of his first wife, Mileva Marić, bordered on the monstrous after their love soured (although I don’t mean, as some have argued, that he stole her ideas). The list of conditions Einstein drew up in 1914 if they were to continue to live together is comically appalling: she was in effect to be his maid and housekeeper but “neither to expect intimacy from me nor to reproach me in any way” and to “desist immediately from addressing me if I request it”. There’s no reason to read this as an expression of generalised misogyny, but neither can we pretend it doesn’t reflect very badly on Einstein’s respect for women.
[...]
Jenny Rohn has suggested that if we’re disappointed to find such behaviour in scientists, it reflects an unrealistic expectation that they will be as pristine as their theories. She is right – but I think there’s more at play here.
For a profession that alleges so strenuously that it’s the ideas, not the people, that count, science is oddly determined to create heroes (and the occasional heroine) and celebrate them in the names of institutes and awards. This practice forces science into a constant, awkward dance with its past as times and mores change. Even the apparently uncontroversial 1936 physics Nobel laureate Peter Debye was at the centre of a row a decade ago when he was accused of having colluded with the Nazis during his prewar career in Germany, and even of being antisemitic. Those accusations were extreme and unfair, but it is precisely because the issues are so grey in Debye’s case that the practice of naming the likes of the Debye Institute in Utrecht seems an unwise hostage to fortune.
Even when great scientists are acknowledged to have gone too far, they’re typically indulged, called “colourful” and “outspoken” or remade in the rather romantic image of the flawed genius, and excused by their eminence. When James Watson’s speaking engagement at the Science Museum in London was cancelled in 2007 after he made racist remarks, Richard Dawkins protested at “the hounding, by what can only be described as an illiberal and intolerant ‘thought police’, of one of the most distinguished scientists of our time”.
There’s a reluctance to accept that great ideas can come from horrible people – like the rabidly Nazi-supporting and Nobel-winning physicists Philipp Lenard and Johannes Stark. When they both launched virulently antisemitic attacks on Einstein and his “Jewish physics” in the 1920s, he weathered it with great fortitude, patience and even humour. But that doesn’t make him a saint.

Music Shuffle, take 2
Alright, lets see what happens when I shuffle iTunes, but only include tracks I wouldn’t skip, and would enjoy listening to completely.
“The New Face Of Zero And One” – The New Pornographers
“The Needle Has Landed” – Neko Case
“Sister Cry” – The Jayhawks
“Driving Me Mad” – Neil Finn
“So It Goes” – Nick Lowe
“Pavlov's Bell” – Aimee Mann
“Execution Day (Live)” – The New Pornographers
“Train From Kansas City” – Neko Case
“Rise Up With Fists” – Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins
“I Want To Sing That Rock And Roll” – Gillian Welch
Yeah, that’s more like it. That said, again, it all seems to be in and around the same neighborhood, proving that while the Genius Shuffle is good at what it does, it’s not very good at offering any surprises.

EdSurge’s 2017 Year in Review: The Top 10 K-12 Stories, as Chosen by You
As we wind down another year of chronicling education technology, we wondered: Which stories made the biggest impact? One way to answer that question is to track what readers read, shared and “Liked” most.
This year, you looked to trendsetting districts, thought leaders, tech giants and one very sage high school student to help make sense of rapid changes in education technology. Here are EdSurge’s top stories of 2017 in chronological order—a healthy dose of optimism and skepticism, words of encouragement and caution for the year ahead.
Battle of the Classrooms: Apple, Google, Microsoft Vie for K-12 Market
The word “Classroom” has never been more loaded as it is now, with all three blue-chip technology giants each releasing a tool with the same name. From Google and Microsoft’s LMS-like collaboration system to Apple’s device manager, here’s a handy guide to all things Classroom.
Kids Don’t Fail, Schools Fail Kids: Sir Ken Robinson on the ‘Learning Revolution’
In a keynote presentation earlier this year, Sir Ken Robinson praised kids’ passion for learning but slammed a school system that beats this love out of students. Harsh words, but perhaps unsurprising from Robinson, whose TED Talk on whether schools kill creativity is the most viewed in the TED canon. Taking aim at standardized testing in particular, Robinson advocates for a “revolution” in learning—and praises several schools that are realigning priorities to put the focus back on inspiring students.
Khan Academy’s New ‘Teacher Aid’ Tool Goes for a Test Drive in Southern California
Khan Academy videos have long been used in K-12 classrooms of all grade levels, even though it was never expressly marketed to them. This April, the company released its first tool built for school: a teacher’s aid that allows users to create lesson plans corresponding to Khan videos and track student progress via a data dashboard. According to founder Sal Khan: “Students will have the study resources and teachers get a clear read of where students are at so they can choose what to go over again in class.”
Goodbye ABCs: How One State Is Moving Beyond Grade Levels and Graded Assessments
What happens when you take away grades and grade levels? Seven elementary schools in New Hampshire found out when they switched to a competency-meets-project-based approach that frees students up to work on mastering specific standards, instead of a standard curriculum. With copious data collection baked into the process, schools—and students—are already seeing results.
GRAPH: Where Do US Teacher Salaries Really Go the Furthest?
EdSurge paired cost-of-living data in all 50 states, along with stats from the National Center for Education Statistics, to discover where teaching salaries stretch the furthest. The result is an adjusted average salary that better represents how much purchasing power teachers really have in any given state. One tip: stay far, far away from Hawaii.
Why I’m Optimistic About the Next Wave of Education Technology
Jason Palmer, a general partner at New Markets Venture Partners, has weathered through more than 25 years of running education businesses and investing in edtech startups. From early attempts at building learning management systems in the 1990s to today’s explosion of infrastructure and software in classrooms, Palmer charts the success and failures of edtech—and why he’s bullish about the future.
Students Say They Are Not as Tech Savvy as Educators Assume
It’s become an allegory of our times: kids are way more tech proficient than adults—especially their teachers. What’s often missing from that narrative is that most students are underprepared to use technology in professional or academic settings. Three students share how they’re still learning, and how schools can help.
Tired Edtech Trends That Teachers Wish Would Retire: From the Floor of ISTE 2017
“I feel like everyone talks about blended learning, and no one really knows what it means.” So said former Chicago administrator Jennie Magiera on the show floor at ISTE, a conference she keynoted. Magiera’s frustrations were felt by others who shared their own hangups on the buzzwords, hardware and apps that really ought to be put out to pasture.
From a Rising Senior to Her Teachers: Things to Never Say or Ask About College
As the college admission process has gotten steadily more competitive—and stressful—over the years, one high school senior has a message for the adults: Stop with all the questions! It turns out that well-meaning inquiries into standardized test scores and eventual career goals don’t make the process any easier for applicants. Here are her top four topics to steer clear of.
How to Build Community Leaders of Today—and Tomorrow—Through Student Genius Hours
When one teacher implemented Google’s famed 20 percent time—which lets employees spend a fifth of their time on passion projects—she watched her classroom transform into a community. As students picked projects and began the hard work of implementing them, they began to appreciate, and even rely on, one on another for encouragement, feedback and support. The projects helped bring students closer to their school, families and the community at large.

AMADEUS by Peter Shaffer

Following a sell-out run last year, Amadeus returns to the Olivier in 2018.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a rowdy young prodigy, arrives in Vienna determined to make a splash. Awestruck by his genius, court composer Antonio Salieri has the power to promote his talent or destroy it. Seized by obsessive jealousy he begins a war with Mozart, with music and, ultimately, with God.
