I know that I’m going to sound biased here and I probably am but I am CONVINCED that Jedidiah Wicker *specifically* is going to become a prominent character in a future season. It might be season 5, it might be later, idk, but the way that his character has been set up is so different from the other kids because from that opening scene in season 2 when he and Johannah encounter Dimes, there is something that distinctly sets him apart from his siblings and I’m pretty sure that even in season 4 Valerie notices that he seems more apologetic than Jacob and Johannah than causing a disturbance (episode 158) about causing a disruption. Anyways this all feels like a setup for something and if we don’t get payoff at some point I’ll be genuinely surprised and honestly a little disappointed.

Thinking of that one scene where Buck’s in punishment box or whatever that was supposed to be and he’s hungry and hurting and Jedidiah comes by and gives him something to eat, knowing full well that if he’s caught, he’ll be punished to and shfehdkdjjskakdnfjd

Imagine showing an act of kindness like that knowing full well that it’s only putting your own safety and wellbeing at risk. It’s such a small gesture, but it means so much. This child was raised by a hateful violent woman in a hateful and violent environment and he still chooses to risk his own comfort to help someone else.

I wrote a short fic about Jedidiah Wicker, but it feels too short to put up on ao3 so I'm sharing it here instead (writing under the cut)

Jedidiah’s gently holding a beetle. It’s smaller than most of the bugs he finds, but in his eyes it deserves the chance for a better life just as much as any beetle he finds scurrying through the room he shares with his brothers. Away from stinky loud teenage boys.

It doesn’t understand, however, that he’s trying to help it, and keeps trying to get through his fingers or crawl out of his cupped hands. He whispers little assurances to it, promising that he'll bring it to a better life, that if it stays inside, someone will crush it, but it doesn’t understand him. 

He releases it a few feet outside, and it disappears into the grass. It will never know that he saved it. It will always be scared of him. This makes him sad. He wishes that he could talk to bugs, so it could understand why he took it outside.

When he walks back inside, Joshua and Jocelyn are still sitting on the floor talking about whatever teenagers talk about, Joshua looks up at him.

“What were you doing out there, buddy?” He asks, trying to sound nice.

“I was bringing out a little bug I found in our room, so it could be free,” Jed explains.

Joshua makes a face that he can’t quite interpret, “It would have been easier just to kill it.”

“I know,” Jed responds plainly. He wants to tell him that that defeats the point, but Joshua doesn’t understand that even little bugs deserve a chance to have a better life.

My predictions for season 5 based on the first episode:

The Quartet is being controlled by some other more powerful force

Percy and Diggory are going to put off talking about it for as long as possible (I’ve mentioned it before and I stand by it)

Danielle and Nik will interact at some point (PLEASE)

Percy’s new relationship is t4t (WILLIAM PLEASE)

Johanna or Jedidiah Wicker is going to do something relevant (PLEASE WILLIAM PLEASSSEEE)

Percy’s still just as fucked up just in a different way

Something goes horribly wrong in France and Buck and his family have to team up with Yaretzi, The Countess, and Mort

Riot and Diggory end up connecting over the whole sewn together thing

Nikgnik ends up hating their new position/is extremely stressed out because of it

When Olivier comes back she will either have gotten more way powerful or just straight up lost his powers, no in between

The bell that Irene had will come back and be relevant

there’s definitely something else going on with this new Riot

Some Wicker kids headcanons that I have because why not:

Joshua actually has a pretty decent singing voice, and wanted to be on the worship team for a while, but was worried that his friend would make fun of him so he opted out

They all got absolutely horrible sex education, but Jocelyn got it worst because her mom essentially gave her the “don’t have sex before you’re married or you’ll go to hell” talk with absolutely nothing else and, unlike her sisters, she didn’t have an older sister to explain some of the other stuff to her, so she was just left to figure stuff out on her own. She had a panic attack when she got her first period and still doesn’t know how heterosexual sex work

she does, however, know how lesbian sex works.

Joel has a tic disorder of some sort, but it’s undiagnosed and his mom thinks he has a demon in him. She hasn’t managed to find a way to exorcise it yet, she never will, because it’s not a demon.

I’ve mentioned this multiple times to multiple people but Jedidiah is trans.

Johanna does have a bit of a stealing problem. Even if it’s not something she particularly wants, if she thinks she can get away with it, she will try.

Up until they were in their early teens, Jacob, Joshua, and Jocelyn were practically attached at the hips. But like- Jocelyn had to be there for them to get along, if she wasn’t around, Jacob and Joshua argued constantly

A little update on the Wickers’s situation in the Controlled Burn AU because I had to change some stuff:

Mrs Wicker is still in the picture. I know I said that she’s in jail and most of the kids like with Jacob now, but that doesn’t really work as well plot wise. Joel, Jedidiah, Johanna, and Jessica all still live with her and are under her guardianship. Jacob and Josh live nearby and visit somewhat frequently and Jocelyn’s gone completely no contact.

I don’t know what the wickers r but r they Queer

ok so they’re a family from Hello from the Hallowoods and none of them are canonically queer, however I tend to interpret a good few of them that way.

Mrs. Wicker is the mom and she ABSOLUTELY SUCKS. She’s the worst. I hate her and she deserves to burn in hell. She’s also very homophobic (canonically). There’s a small part of me, however, that like to interpret her as a repressed lesbian, though given that she has 8 kids I’m not sure I like the implications of that.

Oh her eight children I headcanon 4 of them to be queer. Specifically Jacob being bisexual, Jocelyn being a lesbian, Jedidiah being a trans girl, and Johanna being aromantic.
