THE TAKE 2 Studio Sessions for RCA · December 13, 1973: Stax Studios, Memphis Please, read what Ernst Jorgensen says about the moment "My Boy" was being recorded, and listen to the take. -- The next night Elvis began with a song from his live repertoire, “My Boy,” which had been included in the August Las Vegas show. The song told the traumatic tale of losing a child through divorce, but Elvis wanted to be done with it fast. When Felton pushed for a third take, he exploded: “I told you to get this goddamn thing in two takes. I can’t sing it no more.” Take three was actually better; it lacked the long fade out Felton wanted, but he knew better than to ask for another, confident that he could loop it in mixing to get the effect he wanted. Excerpt: "Elvis Presley, A Life in Music: The Complete Recording Sessions" by Ernst Jorgensen. Foreword by Peter Guralnick (1998) -- So, when I first read this part of Jorgensen's book I hadn't listen to that take yet, but now that I did I don't take Elvis' comment as "he exploded", do you? If that was Elvis exploding, I have to reconsider a lot of the stories about his supposed short-tempered moments. Just saying. He sounded pretty like just casually commenting rather than snapping at Felton like the description of the moment made it look like. Still, I personally think that comment came for a reason, maybe EP was too polite - or too embarrassed - to show how affected by the lyrics of that song he was. I don't have much of a taste for satiric grotesquerie. (I'm one of the few people I know who disliked A Confederacy of Dunces.)  But Volker Schlöndorff's The Tin Drum did, after all, win not only the Cannes Palme d'Or but also the foreign film Oscar. It's true that 11-year-old David Bennent gives an astonishing performance as Oskar, who has consciously chosen to remain a 3-year-old for the rest of his life. But some of the scenes in which Oskar makes love to Maria (Katharina Thalbach) are queasy-making, with Bennent and 24-year-old Thalbach going through the required, if discreetly filmed, motions. And I find the acting in the film overstated and the thematic coherence of the story wobbly. I have to admire some of the comic sequences, such as the one in which Oskar sabotages a Nazi rally by playing a waltz rhythm on his drum, confusing the brass band and making the participants dance with one another. But as a fable about German history, which the film's source, Günter Grass's novel, is said to be, the movie lacks a focus that's clearer on the page than on the screen.

The laboratory that analyzed his samples, Alpha Analytical Laboratories, was unaware of their historical context and stated that the analysis was inappropriate for drawing conclusions about cyanide use.

  "En 2022, 56 % de la population mondiale, soit environ 4,4 milliards d’habitants, vivaient en milieu urbain. Cette tendance, si elle se maintenait, ferait que d’ici 2050, 7 personnes sur 10 seront citadines.

  Cette concentration humaine est source de richesse économique et culturelle, mais induit évidemment des risques, des fragilités, des inégalités parfois extrêmes. Elle est aussi génératrice d’effets environnementaux indésirables. La Banque mondiale estime que les villes représentent actuellement près des 2/3 de la consommation mondiale d’énergie et 70 % des émissions planétaires de gaz à effet de serre. Responsable certes, mais aussi victime de l’accélération des changements environnementaux, en particulier climatiques, caractéristiques de l’anthropocène.

  Ainsi s’impose la nécessité d’adapter les grands ensembles urbains à ces défis environnementaux. Certaines métropoles sont menacées par la montée des eaux océaniques. D’autres – parfois les mêmes – sont menacées par les accidents climatiques extrêmes, précipitations massives génératrices d’inondations brutales, canicules, voire simplement augmentation soutenue des températures moyennes impactant violemment populations et infrastructures urbaines. À ces défis vient s’ajouter la gestion du risque sanitaire : qualité et disponibilité de l’eau, risque épidémique, maladies liées à la pollution. L’« exposome urbain » reste à appréhender dans sa globalité, sans parler des altérations de la biodiversité microbienne, animale et végétale."
