#Jason Todd in the Adam West universe
Explore tagged Tumblr posts
Text
In my 1966 universe, Jason Todd is a run away that Bruce takes in. He’s older, almost 5-10yrs, than the twins.
✨A protective, dorky, headache, cursing, pain in the ass greaser. ✨
And every time Adam West Batman hears him curse, he had to put quarters in for each word into Jason's Bat Swear Jar.
I still need to doodle his official crime fighting outfit.

DC Legacy
The basic premise of this is that the time has come for older heroes to step down and the next generation take their place. Clark Kent is now the editor and owner of the Daily Planet and vows to lead them into the future while keeping their dedication to the truth. Diana Prince is now Queen of the Amazons and has relinquished her title as Wonder Woman though she still joins the Justice Society when needed. Bruce Wayne has become mayor of Gotham City and intends to use the power of the office to fight crime at the root. However the intensified spotlight means he must give up the cowl. Others such as Oliver Queen have stepped down from active duty to become teachers to the next generation, passing down their skills and knowledge. New Side Blog
Hiya!! my main blog is @baura-bear (where I mostly post newsies content) but I've been reading the Batman comics from the beginning (I'm currently on issue 241). I thought this would be a good place to put all thoughts Batman!
As well as being a fan of the comics (despite not having finished) I'm a big Christian Bale fan so of course have seen the Dark Knight trilogy as well as newer adaptations like The Batman (2022), Joker (2019), as well as older adaptations! I grew up on the Adam West Batman series and Tim Burton's Batman movies. I've also dabbled in Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, and the PS2 Lego Batman game as a kid!
What threw me back into the Batman rabbit hole was actually the Telltale Batman games (and my professors Batman fanfiction but that's a story for another time).
I have general knowledge of the overall Batman universe but besides what I've read in comics I don't exactly know how it plays you (ex. I know Jason Todd is killed by the Joker and brought back, I know Damian is Talia al Ghul's and Bruce Wayne's son. No clue how these things happen). I'm trying my best to avoid spoilers but also Batman has been around since like the '40s so obviously I can't avoid it all lol.
Anyway this is a bit of a boring post but I wanted an introduction out there so feel free to join along as I share highlights from the comics as I read or just general Batman Thoughts™

The League's tech guys have developed a new communication platform. Now super heroes can talk to other super heroes.

Presenting the DCAU text fic that no one but me asked for because I love a good text fic that incorporates every single character including the minor ones. Also I thought this would be less work than an actual narrative plot but I'm so freaking exhausted after writing this you have no clue

Todd saw "The Flash" on Thursday Night.
I'm going to try to give you as much of a non-spoiler review as I can. I will put spoilers behind the More tag.
The story is basically "The Flashpoint Paradox" with some differences.
Think of how Zack Snyder used "The Dark Knight Returns" comic for his Batman v Superman dawn of Justice movie, similar but different from the source material.
That being said, this movie is 💯 times better than Batman v Superman dawn of justice.
Was this movie perfect? In some ways yes. In other ways, not so much. The visual effects could have been better But overall the movie was fantastic, I absolutely loved it.
There were some incredible fight scenes, car chase sequences, flying sequences and many other things that make for a great comic book movie.
Let me put it to you this way, I'm going to buy this movie when it's available. I will also probably see it a few more times in theaters just to show my appreciation for the storytelling and the people involved with making it.
If you want to know who all the cameos are I can list them below, just click READ MORE.
SPOILERS AHEAD, you've been Warned.
The first Cameo you see in this movie is of course Ben Affleck's Batman/Bruce Wayne, Jeremy Irons is Alfred.
But we already knew that because of the trailers and commercials but what you don't know is that Gal Gadot makes an appearance as Wonder Woman, helping Flash and Batman with some problems that end with both BATMAN and the Flash getting tangled up in the lasso of truth and sharing some vulnerable personal details.
when Barry decides go back into the past to prevent his mother's dead he runs into a alternative version of himself, Then of course we get to see the alternate universe Batman which is the 1989 Batman, Michael Keaton.
And there's a sequence in the movie where future Berry and past Berry are trying to fix the timeline and in the process they see all these other timelines appear around them showing them various versions of Batman Superman and other Superheroes.
In this sequence we see George Reeves Superman in black and white and then we see Adam West Batman from 1966 and then we see Christopher Reeve and Helen Slater is Superman and Supergirl.
But I think the best Cameo from that sequence in the movie was the Nicolas Cage Superman fighting a giant robotic spider. Which is a thing that we were only aware of because of Kevin Smith and talking about what he was asked to write a Superman movie.
This is also where you find out that the past Berry ends up being Dark Flash, which we see glimpses of him when Flash first goes back in time earlier in the movie.
But I think the best Cameo in the entire movie happens when Barry goes back to what he thinks is his timeline only to find out that it's not his timeline and that his Bruce that was played by Ben Affleck had has now been replaced with George Clooney.
Oh and there is a end credit scene with Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa as Barry Allen & a very, very, very, drunk, Arthur Curry(Aquaman).

Crack! Bang! There was a flash of blindingly bright light, followed by a huge explosion.
"Wha- where are we?"
Tony Stark looked over to Peter who had been the first to speak. Crap, the kid had come here too. But wherever here was, he did not know.
Tony, Steve, Hulk, Thor, Clint, Peter, and Natasha stood in a loose clump at the center of a smoking crater. The sky was cloudy and dark, and they appeared to be at least five miles outside of a big city, judging from the buildings in the distance. There was also a highway filled with streaming cars a couple of miles to Tony’s right.
“This isn’t right,” He muttered, opening his faceplate. Where were the sunny tropical trees that housed the compound of Anagnorisis - weird name, he knew - who was some D-list villain who thought some slightly advanced tech made them a world-conqueror. But Tony was beginning to think that those guns were a bit stranger and more advanced than he had previously believed.
“Tell me about it,” replied Steve. “Any idea where we are? Was it some sort of teleportation gun that was shot at us? This looks nothing like the Amazon.”
Before anyone could speak, Tony received a notification. Multiple incoming objects were approaching, fast . With the exception of the second fastest, they seemed to be airborne. “Multiple incomings, perhaps hostile. Most are flying. And they aren’t missiles. I think people ? But -”
“Who are you?”
Suddenly the first object arrived, and Stark was right. It was a black haired man in a blue skin tight suit with a red “S” on it and a flowing red cape. It would look ridiculous if he wasn’t glaring daggers at the group while flying .
He was joined almost immediately by another man, this time wearing an all red bodysuit with a lightning bolt on the chest and cowl. He was not flying though. He stopped in front of them swinging his arms as lightning dissipated. He had run there.
Next came a woman dressed in the colors of the american flag, with golden cuffs, tiara, and lasso by her side. She came with a man in a green, white, and black skin tight suit with some sort of symbol - perhaps a lantern? - on his chest. He also wore a green ring and black domino mask with white lenses on his face. They were both joined by another, a split second later. This was by far the strangest arrival. He was completely bald, with green skin and red eyes. He wore navy blue pants and cape, with only a red “X” over his chest. All three were floating.
“Who are you?” The blue and red man repeated.
Tony scoffed. Was this guy serious? “We’re the Avengers, obviously.”
The group shared a look. “Is that some new kind of villain group? I swear to all that is good and holy if I need to deal with another group who think they can rule the world, I. Will. Quit.” This time the man who spoke was the runner.
Steve replied, confusion clear on his face. “We’re not villains! We’re the Avengers; Earth’s mightiest heroes!”
Instead of coming to their senses, the strangely dressed newcomers laughed .
“You do realize you are speaking to members of the Justice League?” The woman spoke, her lips pursed.
“The who now?”
“Be quiet Kid, we don’t know what we’re dealing with.” Tony spoke to Peter. He was getting more worried by the second. Something was seriously wrong.
“Dealing with?” The green dressed man frowned, clearly suspicious of the Avengers. He started to fidget with his ring. “Well, since you don’t seem to know, let me enlighten you.” He gestured to each of his companions. “Superman, son of Krypton. Wonder Woman, Amazonian Princess. The Flash, fastest man alive. Martian Manhunter, well, a martian. And Me, Green Lantern. Member of the Green Lantern Core.”
Well, that explained everything. Not.
“We do not know you, strangers.” Thor spoke this time. “Perhaps you leave us be, our green friend over here gets frustrated easily.” He pointed to Hulk, who was breathing heavily.
The green man - martian, apparently - spoke for the first time. “Not until you tell us who you are and why you are in a smoking crater near His city.”
“His?” Clint clearly did not like the way the martian spoke of this character. To be honest, Stark didn’t either.
This got the most surprised reactions from the five. They looked at each other, and Tony could have sworn there was a hint of fear in their faces.
“Oh, He is so not going to like that.” Green Lantern said.
“Combined with the fact that we ditched Him.” The Flash cringed. Then looked worried again. “Yo, green grape, you okay.
The Hulk’s breathing was growing heavier, his face contorted into that of utter rage.
“Uh-oh,” Steve said.
“I . . . Not . . . GRAPE!” Hulk roared as he charged the The Flash who nimbly dodged. Superman went down to intercede, and just got punched by the Hulk. Though it did not seem to physically bother him, he was clearly angry.
Tony shut his face plate and moved forward, intending to stop the fight, but he only got attacked by the martian. Peter jumped forward to help, and soon everyone was fighting.
Thor was pitted against the Wonder Woman, and they seemed evenly matched. Black Widow was against The flash, and despite his incredible speed she seemed to be almost winning. Both Hawkeye and Captain America were battling Green Lantern.
No one seemed to have the upper hand, which worried Tony. These people were tough. If they couldn’t beat them . . . he didn’t know what would happen.
Peter didn’t seem to share his worry though. He instead seemed to be having fun. Tony could tell the kid was smiling beneath his mask, and his body language screamed hyper and happy. He seemed to get that way whenever they fought together, and a small part of Tony was filled with a sense of parental pride.
The fight seemed endless, no one gaining traction. Until something incredible happened. Thor threw Mjolnir directly at his opponent, and instead of being knocked down like everyone else, she caught the hammer. Every Avenger - even the Hulk - immediately froze, catching the attention of the newcomers.
“This is a very well crafted weapon, though a bit clunky,” Wonder Woman said as she tossed the hammer from one hand to the other. She paused, seeing their reactions.
“You are worthy.” Thor spoke with disbelief and a tint of resignation in his voice.
“Pardon?” Superman spoke, his frown apparent.
“Only those worthy can lift Mjolnir - my hammer. She clearly can, which means that you are trustworthy.”
*****
Five minutes of somewhat confused conversation later, they had reached an uneasy truce. Neither spoke much at first, but they soon began to compare notes. Apparently They both believed themselves to be the protectors of Earth, which brought on a bout of argument before Peter stepped in.
“Woah hold on, calm down. Something is clearly up, so there’s no need to argue!”
Wonder Woman looked contemplative. “How old are you boy, you seem young.”
Peter bristled. “I’m 15, and I’ve been a superhero for a while now, so I’m not inexperienced!”
Green Lantern laughed. “That’s not what she met, kid. We aren’t going to tell you how old you need to be to fight crime. The amount of we work with, and some even younger than you . . .” He shook his head and laughed. Then he realised how he had sounded. “I mean, we don’t force them, it's up to each individual to make that choice for themselves. Well, with the mentor’s approval of course.”
Natasha furrowed her brows. “How young are some of these kids?” Tony knew she had a thing against child soldiers, so he wasn’t surprised she was disapproving.
Green Lantern looks to the Flash. “How old is Robin at this point? 9?”
Flash laughed. “Naw, that little devil is 11. He was very adamant on that fact when he threatened me with his katana.” He shook his head.
Green Lantern laughed. “Yeah, most of the others are teenagers. Robin is the youngest, and I’d say most deadly, but Red Hood . . .”
“The Dark Knight really does have a problem,” Flash said.
His last comment made Green Lantern freeze. They both looked at each other then turned to Peter.
“Kid, stay away from The Dark Knight.” Green Lantern says.
“Yeah, if He sees you, there’s no way you’ll ever leave.”
“He’s the most dangerous man on earth,” Green Lantern adds.
“Guys, stop. You’re scaring him.” Superman looks disappointedly at the two heroes who Tony pegged as the trouble makers of the group. This idea was further cemented in Tony when they started laughing. Despite this, he decided to keep Peter as far away from this supposed Dark Knight as possible.
“Speak of the devil, he’s on his way.” Superman says this with a smile, then he cringes. “And we’re going to get an earful alright. Ten minutes ahead of him is a big deal apparently.”
In a moment. Tony got an alert that something was approaching. Fast. Soon he saw a large black military type armoured car fly down the highway from the city and off the road. It zoomed toward them.
It was a sight indeed to see the menacing black car swerve and expertly stop a few yards from the group. The top opened and a dark form shot straight up before landing in a kneeling position in front of them. The figure rose, and Tony got the first good look at him. He was a tall man with a broad chest and shoulders, dresses in complete black. There was a bat-like symbol on his chest, also in black. He wore a cape that flowed around menacingly. His face was covered by a cowl with pointed ears, like that of an owl, or perhaps a bat. The only part of his costume that was not black was the dark gold utility belt at his waist. Altogether, he was utterly frightening.
Tony took a step forward, effectively blocking Peter, who scoffed.
“Batman,” Superman said, a smile on his face.
Batman fixed the most impressive and terrifying glare upon the man that Stark had ever seen. “You broke protocol by going ahead of me. You are in my territory Superman. And you know that I cannot fly or run at the speed of sound.” He fixed his glare on the rest of his group who all reacted with either flinches or sheepish shrugs.
Batman grunted before looking at the Avengers. He sized each of them up, staying longest on Stark. Tony felt as if his entire being was being stripped away under the scrutiny.
“Alternate Dimension jumpers, not by choice I’m assuming.”
He spoke so simply that it took a minute for Tony to react. Even then, the man was already on his way back to his car.
“We’re near Gotham, let’s regroup at the Cave.”
Tony didn’t know what this Cave was, but he wasn’t sure he liked it. “Are you the Dark Knight?” He asked, before he lost his nerve.
The man looked immediately at the Flash and Green Lantern, who looked both scared and amused. Their sheepish smirks and chuckles dissipated when Batman looked away and back to Tony.
“The Dark Knight, The World’s Greatest Detective, The Caped Crusader, The Batman. All are titles I have earned. See you at the cave.”
And with that he hopped in his car and sped off back toward the gloomy city beyond.

In my dissatisfaction with the output of DC Comics, I took it upon myself to tell my own ideal Batman story. The one that I’d tell, given carte blanche by DC themselves to do whatever the hell I wanted.
It took two years. Three full-length novels, six one-shots, and a novelette coming out to about 714k words. A grand epic about family, a far-reaching parable about a line of succession. Romance and explosions, martial arts and awkwardness and, of course, free balloons for the kids. The Gotham City Society of Fireproof Women.
What will you find in these stories?
-Diversity. In both its characters and the genres of stories told. One of the one-shots is a horror story. Another is a western. Hell, another one features no small amount of sports writing. Yeah, I wrote about the history of a baseball team in a city that doesn’t exist. So if you’re wondering whether I thought this through, well, yes I have.
-One-hundred-seventeen characters in the tags alone. Even new characters like Crush, Jinny Hex, and the Arkham Knight. Even characters that didn’t pop up in the comics, but popped up elsewhere, like Cassandra Spellcraft from the old Adam West show, and Iman Avesta from the Telltale game. If you have a favorite DC character, they’re more than likely to be in there somewhere.
-The Joker dies. That’s not even a spoiler. It happens in the first chapter of the first story.
-Wonder Woman gets a girlfriend.
-Jason Todd gets a boyfriend.
-Tim Drake loses his virginity in the hopelessly nerdy way that only Tim Drake can.
-CASSANDRA CAIN BEATS THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF THREE FULL FLOORS OF HENCHMEN AS SHE DELIGHTS IN THEIR AGONIZED SCREAMING.
-Those of you upset that Harper Row isn’t in the comics anymore will be pleased to know that she’s in six of these stories.
-And those of you upset that Kate Kane isn’t on her own show anymore will be pleased to know that she’s in eight of them.
-Clark Kent does nothing but provide comfort and grant absolution. 700k words, and he never even so much as throws a punch.
-The wedding that Tom King and DC Comics felt they were too good to give their readers gets about 18k words to itself.
-What magnum fic opus would be complete without the boys of Young Justice having a discussion about theology and video games?
-Solomon Grundy uses his own severed arm to club Bane right square in the nuts, so... maturity.
The Gotham City Society of Fireproof Women. Ten stories of Batman in a just universe, just a link away. If you like what you read, drop a comment and tell your friends.
And as always, thank you for reading.

Is modern Batman still a hero?
One topic that I see a lot when people are discussing which bat-character is better or who deserves the most to be Batman after Bruce is how brutal or empathetic the different characters are.
The argument is of course, that characters like Tim or Dick deserve to follow Bruce in his footsteps more than more violent candidates like Jason or Damian.
Personally, I don't really see why you would even want your favourite character to be Batman, but that isn't the topic of this post. Neither is discussing who should take over after Bruce. It's a bit pointless anyway since the Main Universe will always return to Bruce and the (former) Robins are all a bit stuck in their age range, so why fight over a status that wouldn’t stay around for more than a year? Anyway, back to the reason for this post.
A lot of those discussions about "worthiness" are rooted in a certain belief: That Bruce as Batman is empathetic and not brutal, he's a hero.
Maybe it's because I haven't read comics since the 60s, maybe it's because I'm not American and didn't watch Batman the animated series or any other Batman show when I was a child. My knowledge about Batman mostly stems from comics that came out since 2006. I don't have a lot of nostalgia when it comes to Batman and I sometimes struggle to see where this belief in Batman’s goodness comes from.
I look at Batman after New 52 and I don't see an empathetic hero who refrains from using unnecessary violence. I see an often very selfish man, who is incapable of taking responsibility for his actions in a lot of cases, is extremely violent and one of the worst things is probably that both writers and a lot of readers happily let him get away with it. Problematic behaviour isn't bad per se, some of my favourite characters are assholes or shady, but usually both writers and fans aknowledge that fact when writing or talking about them.
The problem here is that DC is writing Bruce as an anti-hero while marketing him as a hero. Even as one of the greatest heroes who has ever lived. I don't know about you, but the lack of empathy and heroism Bruce had in King's Batman run, after all the main Batman book for the last three years, was appaling, and he didn't do much good in other books either.
And again, all of this would be fine if the narrative treated his actions as wrong and made characters in the DC universe comment on that behaviour as wrong. But that doesn't really happen, at least not in a meaningful way. In most cases another character expresses some disappointment for one page, but nobody seriously questions Bruce's status as a friend, leader, mentor or hero. In a lot of other cases Bruce's actions are depicted as good simply because he's Batman and Batman is popular, not because his actions are without a doubt good.
One example for how differently writers and readers treat characters who aren't Bruce Wayne/Batman doing shady stuff is how Adam Glass portrays Damian's actions in Teen Titans and how readers reacted to it.
After the catastrophic events of Justice League: No Justice Damian decided that the Justice League's methods don't work and that Arkham wasn't a good place for dangerous criminals anymore, because the criminals always broke out pretty quickly and would murder innocent people again. With the help of Red Hood he built his own prison, which kinda resembled a torture chamber. I think we can all agree that this is wrong and the narrative treats it as such as well. Thankfully Damian eventually reached the same conclusion and tries to be better again.
Nevertheless, a lot of DC fans still think Damian deserves to get fired or even beaten up by Bruce for what he did. The solicitations for April 2020 make it sound like they might get what they desire.
Even when I ignore how contraproductive punishing a child for trying to solve a problem with violence by using more violence is and that Bruce's neglect allowed all of this to happen in the first place, no matter how this Teen Titans annual will play out, I simply don't think that Bruce is one to judge in this particular situation.
I like to use the summer/fall of 2018 as a reference point because that is when DC Rebirth ended and the entire DC universe started to fall back into it's bad New 52 habits.
Since then Bruce was partly responsible for creating Sanctuary, a poorly designed mental health facility, where Wally West accidentally killed a lot of fellow heroes, because of the way he was treated. The Trinity felt a bit bad about it, but reopened their facility without any known changes anyway:
Bruce imprisoned the very dangerous Batman Who Laughs in a secret prison under the Hall of Justice without telling the Justice League:
The hero community didn't know about any of it, which allowed BWL to infect a lot of allies who Batman had left in the dark.
He beat up Jason Todd, his former protégé, so badly he couldn't walk for weeks based on information that later turned out to be false:
He's overall extremely brutal. Just a few examples:
Breaking KGBeast's neck and leaving him in the cold afterwards:
The entirety of Batman #59 and #60 where he beat up the guards in Arkham, beat Bane into a pulp, punched Gordon in the face, tortured ex-inmates for information on Bane and had Penguin imprisoned in a small cage in the Batcave.
And he punches people in Arkham into submission basically whenever he feels like it:
A lot of Bruce's awful behaviour is from King's run on Batman, but other examples are from Red Hood and the Outlaws, Batman and Superman or even from Detective Comics written by Tomasi, who probably writes the most heroic version of Bruce nowadays.
Tynion's run on Batman just started, but there are already some examples for questionable behaviour there too:
Like building a not very humane looking prison after coming to the same conclusion as Damian, which was that Arkham isn't enough anymore:
Or letting Cheshire get hit by a moving truck on purpose:
Yeah, seriously, the only reason this doesn't count as lethal method is because Batman doesn't kill, thus his enemies simply aren't allowed to die from fatal attacks.
But apparently Bruce is still a hero, a man of empathy and commited to only using as much violence as the situation requires😑
If DC wants Bruce to do shady stuff as much as they do, then maybe it's time to admit that modern Bruce is more of an anti-hero than a hero. Or if DC wants to redefine what it means to be heroic, then Bruce needs to drop his moral supiority complex when dealing with characters that actually don't act that different from him.

Justice League Ice Breakers
by Obligatory_Trope_Insert
The League's tech guys have developed a new communication platform. Now super heroes can talk to other super heroes.
Almost entirely based on the DCAU. The overall plot and characters are from Justice League and Justice League Unlimited with some story lines taken from the comics.
Presenting the DCAU text fic that no one but me asked for because I love a good text fic that incorporates every single character including the minor ones. Also I thought this would be less work than an actual narrative plot but I'm so freaking exhausted after writing this you have no clue

Sensible madness
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/34NkxPp
by Anna12aot
What if Kate and Bruce were born around the same time? What if the tragedies that made them the heroes they become, also happened around the same time? What if the two of them ended up living together? What if the two of them ended up as huge theater nerds? What if they had some actual healthy coping mechanisms along side their totally not super unhealthy vigilante detective hobby that nearly kills them on a weekly basis? What if everything wasn't a shitty cheap ass drama show written by racist, misogynist, homophobic, all the bad ism's and phobia's and ist's?
(No disrespect to the individuals who try to give us good diverse content. Actually, all the respect because DC as whole is a weak dumb ass bitch and kudos to those people for tolerating that bastard.)
Here is my sad, pathetic attempt to fix the DC universe that I am very much under qualified and under prepared for. Enjoy. (And I'll get to finishing the relationship tags soon, it's just not on the agenda right about now. There is just so many fucking characters. The character tags are technically unfinished because that won't be all of the characters showing up. Do I really hate myself and DC that much?)
