Summary: Three teenage boys (Ethan Hawke, River Phoenix, and Jason Presson) build a space craft to, well, explore outer space.

Amiable Sunday afternoon hangover fare with believable performances from main trio and typical ‘80s charm. Deserved better on initial release.

Explorers will be released on Collector's Edition Blu-ray on May 25 via Shout Factor’s Shout Select line. Special features for the 1985 sci-fi fantasy adventure film will be revealed at a later date.

Joe Dante (Gremlins, Small Soldiers) directs from a script by Eric Luke (Gargoyles). Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix star, both making their film debuts, along with Jason Presson. Industrial Light & Magic (Star Wars) created the visual effects, while Rob Bottin (The Thing) handled the with make-up effects.

In their makeshift laboratory, the boys use an amazing discovery and their ingenuity to build their own spaceship and launch themselves on a fantastic interplanetary journey.
