Ai Iijima
Born in Kameido, Koto, Tokyo, in 1972, Ai dropped out of high school after her the shock of her grandfather dying, whom she was very close to. After initially shoplifting to make ends meet, she began her career in the Japanese AV (adult video) industry, appearing in 26 videos and eight nude photo books between 1992 and 1993. During this time she appeared as a regular cast member on the notorious late night adult variety show Gilgamesh Night. While she was initially marketed as a raven haired beauty, Ai changed her looks completely to dyed brunette hair and tanned skin. This lead her to leaving the AV industry and to crossing over to the mainstream with Ai starring in commercials, a short music career with five singles and an album and even a manga co-authored by her. A popular figure on TV variety and panel shows during the 1990's through to the 2000's, she became involved in campaigns to educate the public about HIV/AIDS, a cause that few Japanese celebrities were willing to undertake. She released her best selling biography Platonic Sex in 2000, which detailed the struggles she had during her life and career. She announced her retirement from show business in March 2007. Tragically she died alone in her apartment from pneumonia in December 2008.

Look at me, doing everything possible to delay the inevitable, ha. You know the moment I tackle my English Aimer I will have changed everything, so here I am, mangling all the world’s languages and about to piss off everybody. I have pretty much all of the official lyrics (plus @br0adwaybaby Portuguese lyrics and this Armenian); I'm still missing the Hebrew and Czech, alas. I also added my original English because 1) I was running out of languages and 2) the alternative would have been rivers and mountains, so yeah. If you guys have any other Aimers, feel free to give them to me so that I can collect them and turn them into my Horcruxes.
Aimer (Ideal Lyrics)
Both Dutch: Liefde—haar kracht doet leven German: Alles zu erreichen English: Plighting to one another Our lives, our souls forever
Chorus Mandarin: 爱是 永恒的星辰 Aí shì yónghéng de xīngchén German: Liebe kann uns erheben Romanian: Departe, spre o lume mult mai dreaptǎ Spre nemurire
Mongolian: Хайр цаг хугацааг зогсооно Khair tsag khugatsaag zogsoono Korean: 살아숨쉰다는것 - sal-a sumswindaneungeos Italian: E bruscia nel desiderio Spanish: Amar es algo inmenso
Chorus + Juliette Russian: Время, Продлимгновенье!—Vremya, Prodli mgnoven'ye! (Italian: E cambia il mondo) Armenian: Տու'ր մեզ անմահությունը, (Tu'r mez anmahut’yuny) (Italian: E dai speranza) Russian: Дай им, Во имя всех влюбленных,— Day nam vo imya vsekh vlyublyonnykh Благословенье!— Blagosloven'ye!
Chorus + Romeo Portuguese: Amar mais belo não há (Spanish: Que bello es amar) Korean: 날아더높이올라—nal-adeonop-i olla (Spanish: El cielo tocar) Japanese: 二人の愛だけは残る—Futari no ai dakewanokoru 永遠に - Eienni
All French: Aimer…
English Translation
Romeo German: Love, what can be more beautiful to give? Hungarian: Nothing is greater than this fire Spanish: And I am like a bird in flight French: To love is the most beautiful thing there is
Juliette Slovakian: To love is the pinnacle of beauty Hungarian: It’s to give everything to your beloved French: And to burn in the heart of a volcano Portuguese: To love, there is nothing greater
Both Dutch: Love, its power gives life German: Achieving everything English: Plighting to one another Our lives, our souls forever
Chorus Chinese: Love is an eternal star German: Love can lift us up Romanian: Far away, to a more just world, To immortality
Mongolian: Love stops time Korean: It’s to stay alive Italian: And burn in desire Spanish: Love is something immense
Chorus + Juliette Russian: Time, prolong this moment! (Italian: And change the world) Armenian: Give us immortality (Italian: And it gives hope) Russian: Give us, in the name of all lovers Your blessing!
Chorus + Romeo Portuguese: To love, there is nothing more beautiful (Spanish: How beautiful it is to love) Korean: It’s to fly up high (Spanish: To fly to the sky) Japanese: Our love will still remain Forever
All French: To love…
#romeo et juliette#aimer#multilanguage#cristina sings#my lyrics#i can’t believe i managed to rhyme some of the lyrics#so yeah not 100% ideal#also i used a karaoke version that didn’t have a chorus#so it’s not even in the original key i don’t think#i was tempted to use my own spanish lyrics#but decided against it since those are not fixed yet

'Many queer people, who grew up in the homophobic 80s, in the shadow of the AIDS epidemic, today struggle with trauma from childhood, believes British star director.
And Andrew Haigh knows what he's talking about, because he himself is part of that generation.
- Even though we have moved on in life, many people carry with them bad memories from childhood and adolescence, says Haigh in an exclusive interview with NRK.
For the personal film he is currently working on, "All of Us Strangers", he has brought in big stars such as Paul Mescal ("Normal people"), Andrew Scott ("Fleabag"), Claire Foy ("The Crown") and Jamie Bell ("Billy Elliot").
Haigh's previous film "45 Years" garnered Oscar nominations. "All of Us Strangers" has received a total of 6 Bafta nominations, Britain's answer to the Oscars.
In the film, the lonely gay man Adam, played by Andrew Scott, lives in an almost empty block of flats in London. One evening he meets Harry, played by Paul Mescal, who also lives in the empty block. As the love relationship between the two develops, Adam becomes preoccupied with memories from the past.
He returned to the town he grew up in, and found his parents living in their childhood home, just as they did before they died suddenly 30 years earlier when Adam was only 12.
Adam gets the opportunity to have the difficult conversations with his parents that he never had or dared to have before they died in a car accident.
- I would be stupid if I said no to this role
In contrast to Adam, Harry stands out as a confident gay man who is confident in his own orientation. But that's only on the outside.
- I have a deep interest in the form of masculinity, the modern man who on the surface looks like everything is fine. Harry is similar to something I have experienced, and I see him in my veins and in people I know. He was a character I felt I could add weight to, Paul Mescal told NRK.
For Claire Foy, known to many as the young Queen Elizabeth II in "The Crown", there was no doubt that she would say yes to the role.
- I think that the older I get and the more I work in this profession, I will do things that I care about, and that I hope others will care about. I would be very stupid if I said no to this role, says The Crown star to NRK.
Director Andrew Haigh is himself part of the generation of queers who grew up in the 80s, and wanted to make a personal story about growing up queer at that time.
The film "All of US Strangers" is partly based on the 1987 book "Strangers" by the Japanese author Taichi Yamada and partly on the director's own story.
- Things are so much better now for most of us, but we still harbor feelings and trauma from growing up. These feelings are with us in the decisions we make in life, and can lead to us setting boundaries for ourselves, says Haigh, who believes it is important to cultivate that feeling a few times.
- Missed this film as a teenager
Director Andrew Haigh has a wish that not only adults, but also 13-, 14- and 15-year-olds should see the film. He thinks it would have made a big difference if he himself had seen this film as a teenager.
- Sometimes a film can have the ability to convey the difficulty of an experience, whether it is grief, a strange upbringing or whatever it may be. As a teenager, through a film like this, you can gain an understanding of what is challenging about being gay, while also seeing that it is possible to work through the difficulties.
Paul Mescal received a Bafta nomination for his role in the film. So did Claire Foy. She is happy about the nomination, although the real barometer of success for her is people's reaction to the film.
- Nominations and awards are absolutely fantastic, and especially for independent films like this that stand out and attract attention to get people to go and see them. At the same time, I quite sincerely believe that if people come up to you in the street and say that what you do means something, then it doesn't get any better than that, says Foy.
Director Andrew Haigh told NRK that he has experienced an absolutely enormous response to the film. People of all ages, both queer and straight, get in touch to tell stories from their own lives, about the loss of parents, loved ones and the like.
- The film seems to have resonated with them on a sort of universal level, and that means a lot, says Haigh.'

Secure Your Soul: A Cyberpunk 2077 Fanfiction
This fic was previously published under the title "Before the Event Horizon."
Summary: Six months ago, V's boss at Arasaka ordered her to assassinate his rival. Instead, with the reluctant but invaluable help of her old friend Jackie Welles, she pushed them both off their thrones and claimed one for herself. Now the new Director of Arasaka Counter Intel has a problem. She's uncovered information that indicates that Yorinobu Arasaka, the heir apparent to the Arasaka dynasty, is a traitor. But without solid proof, she's forced to take matters into her own hands. An AU in which Corpo!V never leaves Arasaka.
CHAPTER TWO: PLAN A
[read on ao3]
Jenkins’ office was decorated in the same sleek, classic Arasaka design as the rest of NCHQ. The primary color scheme was, of course, red and black—“the color scheme of prosperity,” as most high-end clothing stores in Corpo Plaza called it. Textured black walls were lit up from underneath in red, and the mostly black furnishings also included several small potted saplings of the bioluminescent plant species Arasaka had had genetically modified to obtain its signature red glow. Best of all, the office had a perfect view of the koi fish holograms that circled outside the tower, though it was currently blocked by a large television screen showing the European Space Council’s meeting room. Jenkins stood in front, speaking on a handheld phone.
“Have a seat, V.” He briefly interrupted his call when he noticed her. “I’ll be right with you.”
V did so. She wished he hadn’t blocked the view—she’d have liked to have seen it one last time before she transferred to Spec Ops. She remembered appreciating that view on frequent occasions when she’d had to work directly with Jenkins late at night. When the sky turned black, the lights of the skyscrapers, the blur of the AVs zooming through the sky, and the koi fish with their endless circling created an intoxicating display. V’d often heard old people complain about light pollution in NC making it impossible to see the stars. She didn’t understand what their problem was. Mankind had learned to make their own light shows centuries ago.
V was pulled out of her reverie by the sound of screams and electrocution. She watched as the council members she’d spent all day learning about convulsed into violent spasms for several seconds, then finally went still. What a waste.
Jenkins directed the television to rise into the ceiling, and took his place at his desk. His phone began ringing even before he’d sat down. Jenkins made a show of taking his time to answer it.
“Director Abernathy,” he said when he finally picked up.
“I watched the vote. What the hell was that?” the Director’s voice was projected into the room.
“A deep clean. After the shit Frankfurt dumped on us. As we agreed, I got rid of the problem.”
“I told you to resolve the problem, not massacre the European Space Council. Do you understand what the cover up will cost?”
“We would’ve lost the license, now we gained a week. That’s a win.”
“Path of least resistance. Always. No nuance. Has ‘you’ written all over it.” As Abernathy spoke, Jenkins’ body language became increasingly irritable. He shuffled restlessly in his seat, and made a circular motion with his right hand as if rushing her to shut up already.
“We’re not done talking about this,” Abernathy said.
Jenkins waited for the tone that signified the end of the call. He spun in his chair so that he was facing away from V. “I hate that bitch. I always have.”
“This isn’t the first time the two of you have been in conflict with each other,” V observed.
“No. Not the first.” Jenkins stood up and walked over to the couch on the other side of the room. V followed. “Smeared me in front of Japanese execs, so she’d be the one promoted to Director of Spec Ops. What a cunt.”
Jenkins went over to the alcohol cabinet and poured himself a drink. Bourbon, V noted. His favorite. He turned away from the cabinet, drink in hand. “Now she’s holding a gun to my head to make sure I don’t try anything. But she won’t pull the trigger because she needs me. I do what she doesn’t have the guts to do.”
“Divide and conquer,” said V noncommittally. “Effective strategy.”
“Effective,” Jenkins scoffed at her word choice. It seemed he was starting to suspect she was holding back. “What would you do, if you were me?”
V considered her answer. There were several different ways she could craft her response. But since her time with Jenkins was nearing its end, she settled on the truth. “I’d adjust my methods in the future. I wouldn’t budge on the Space Council issue. There was no other solution, not that I could come up with in time, anyway. But I’d be more discreet from then on and try to limit any further cover up expenses.”
“So you’d take her complaints into consideration?” Jenkins asked. He took a sip of his bourbon.
“I would,” V confirmed. “No one ever made it far by living in an echo chamber.”
“No one ever made it far by acting like a doormat.”
“Also true.”
“Hmm. So they’re both true. Sounds like a really clever way of not actually saying anything. But it doesn’t matter anymore anyway. Come here. I want to show you something.” Jenkins stepped over to the couch, sat down, and pulled something out from under the table.
V moved closer. “A datashard? What is it?”
“Proof of my trust. Go on. Take it.”
She pulled the shard out of its case and hesitantly plugged it into the port on the side of her head. Her vision was flooded with data. All of it about Abernathy. Her stomach sank.
“It’s what I’ve collected over the past weeks,” Jenkins explained. “Biometrics. Trauma team card. Names of her closest associates. Driver. Chief of Security. Lover. Lover’s husband. Everything. Use it. Make sure Abernathy won’t be a problem anymore.”
V ripped the shard out of her head. “This is a huge gamble. If anyone finds out we even talked about this, it’ll be my head on the chopping block.“
“Maybe. But everyone knows you only made it to where you are because of me. So it’s not like they’d believe you weren’t involved anyway.”
Bastard, V thought. I should’ve cut your ripcord years ago. You’re dragging me down with you for no goddamn reason.
“Okay,” V said. “Understood.”
“Good.” Jenkins pulled a wad of cash out from under the table. “Take this too. Use this money only. Find the right people for the job. No corporate affiliation. And for the core task—use someone you know inside out. Are we clear?”
V’s indignation was roiling. She wanted to hit him. Scream at him, at least. She nodded. “Yes. We’re clear.”
“Good. In that case, I’ll await your report. And good luck with it.”
So that was that. V took one last glance out the window. With the sun finally fully set, the view tonight was much the same as it had been in her memories. She turned to go.
“I have my AV waiting outside. It’s yours to use,” Jenkins added. “And V? Don’t disappoint me.”
—
V walked back to her office in a slight daze and plopped down in front of her desk. Her monitors were in the same state she’d left them in. She stared at the bios of the European Space Council. After her constant rereading, every detail was still in her memory, from their birthdays to their children’s names. She wondered how long it would be before she forgot that information. She clicked the exit button.
“I need your stamp on something,” V’s subordinate, Harry Wickman, spoke up. He had the good grace not to acknowledge her condition the last time he'd seen her. She was grateful for that. "It’s possible one of our assets was exposed.”
V nearly jumped out of her chair at that. She rushed over to his side of the office. “Is it Frankfurt again?”
“No, different issue. Local. Our agent at Biotechnica—'' He started to explain, but V nudged him aside and pulled up the report on his computer. Then she activated her Sandevistan. It didn’t slow time, not truly, but it slowed down her perception of time enough to increase her speed and mental acuity. It proved invaluable in combat, and just as effective for speedreading. Within seconds, V had a full picture of the situation.
“Pull him out,” she told him. “But calmly, don’t raise any eyebrows. Otherwise they’ll catch on.”
“Jenkins will be livid,” Wickman warned.
“I’ll handle Jenkins.”
“Understood.” He turned away from her and returned to his work.
With that taken care of, V sat back at her own desk, feeling much more energized than before. Nothing quite as satisfying as a crisis averted. Now on to the next one. V steepled her fingers and leaned her forehead against them. Her next step had become clear. She’d promised Harry she’d handle Jenkins, and that was exactly what she’d do.
V rummaged around in the bottom drawer of her desk until she found a burner phone. With the secretive nature of many of her missions, she made sure to keep a few ready at all times. She grabbed her coat out of her locker, slipped the phone into one of the pockets, and headed down to the first floor of the tower, then out into the crisp night air.
—
When she’d put a sufficient amount of distance between herself and Arasaka Tower, she pulled the phone back out and dialed the number of Director Susan Abernathy. Not her office, but the personal line she’d found in the datashard. On the third ring, Abernathy answered.
“Who is this?” she asked suspiciously.
“Director Abernathy,” V began. “This is Valerie Locke. I work for Arasaka Counter Intel, under Arthur Jenkins. You may know me by my codename, V.”
“Yes, I believe Frank Nostra just mentioned you to me recently. Is this about transferring to Spec Ops?”
V felt a rush of gratitude towards Frank for holding up his end of the bargain. It might give her an edge in this conversation. “No, this is about a more serious matter, ma’am. Earlier this evening, Arthur Jenkins tried to recruit me into a plot to assassinate you."
For a while, there was silence on the other end.
"That idiot. I might've expected this from him. Always was reckless and insubordinate." Abernathy paused, and V heard the sound of papers being shuffled around. "Do you have any proof to back up these accusations?"
"Nothing concrete, unfortunately. I have a datashard of intel he's collected on you."
“I’ll be expecting you to hand that over.”
“Of course. When can we meet?”
"I’ll send someone to pick it up. Do you have a suitable location you can get to quickly?”
“Lizzie’s Bar,” V said instantly. “In Kabuki.” A dark and noisy location was better for discretion, an unexpected location even more so. Lizzie’s wasn’t exactly a hot spot for Arasaka employees; V herself only frequented the bar because it was a favorite of Jackie’s.
“Be there in an hour,” Abernathy said, and then the line went dead.
V smiled to herself. Normally she’d be concerned about whether her car could make it there on time, but luckily, Jenkins had given her access to his AV. Time to make good use of it.

I know this is a super broad question, but; I'm in Chicago this weekend for MPCA/ACA and was wondering if you have any recommendations on what I could do in my freetime? Any smaller/niche museums or bookstores or whatever. Anything you think is interesting/nerdy. And food, of course! Food recommendations are always good :)
Oh man, I wish I had less touristy answers to give you, but I live just enough outside of the city that I mostly do touristy kinds of things when I go down there, and I've only been once since the 2020, so a lot of my answers aren't open anymore/didn't survive the pandemic.
BUT: I do have one that's not touristy! If you're into crafting or found objects at all, there's a secondhand crafts supply store called The WasteShed on Kimball Ave. that's very cool. My favorite thing there are the collections of donated old family photos and slides that people just sort of... give away, when someone in their family dies and they don't want to keep the personal effects(?????). I found an amazing pair of gorgeous family portraits from 1928 in Tokyo last time I was there. The family's names, ages, and the date are all written on the back in both Japanese and English. I'm glad those portraits didn't go into the landfill. But I'm a Small History person who loves things like ephemera. They also have tons of stuff for every type of art or craft imaginable!
Greektown also used to be super cool, but I don't know whether it still is. AFAIK the big tentpoles all didn't survive the pandemic, so don't quote me on that one.
I'm also always going to hype the fairy castle at the Museum of Science & Industry. It was created by and for Colleen Moore, the flapper and silent film star, and she used to tour the country with it to show at children's hospitals. It's fucking amazing. There's a 1" actual Guttenberg bible in there. There's a polar bear rug made of mink and mouse teeth. There's mother-of-pearl chairs made from her earrings from the set of a movie. There used to be running water on the Weeping Willow, but they had to turn off the water in the '90s because it was eating through the materials after 70 years. It's truly my favorite dollhouse, and I've seen the Nutshell Studies.
...I also love American Girl Place but that's literally just a me thing. I also sort of hate-love it, because they have Lost Their Way Severely.
I also am a big fan of the Field Museum -- I know, I know, museums evil, but it does genuinely seem like they're trying to course-correct and make amends -- and the Shedd Aquarium (same). You can touch a manta ray. You can see otters. You can smell penguins. I mean, you can also see them, but boy can you smell them. And Sue (the t-rex at the Field) is an unofficial Chicago mascot.
This is a good list of cool bookstores in the city, which I have to say I haven't explored as much as I should. I've been to a ton of cool bookstores in the Twin Cities, New York, and Staten Island, and some in the SF area and Seattle, but I haven't really explored the ones in Chicago too much because there used to be THE BEST children's/YA bookstore in my suburb and it was where I spent my entire life. This list looks like it has good options for many neighborhoods in the city, though, so wherever you're staying there should be something near-ish to you.
Which is kind of the other reason I haven't explored Chicago as much as other cities in which I've lived, despite living here the longest: public transit here FUCKING SUCKS and I hate city driving more than anything in the world. Maybe you'll have a better experience with the L than I ever do, though, so don't let me being terrible at the L put you off trying it out. I just am not good at it. I can do the subway! I can do trams and the Skyway! I can do street maps okay! I cannot do the L. Somehow every single time I try, I miss a stop and have to circle all the way around again.
Ooh, one other fun thing I did in like 2019 in the city was go ax-throwing, so if you want to try that, they have that right near the symphony building. That's surprisingly fun and not scary.
Food-wise, Chicago is full of good food. Pretty much everything I've ever eaten in the city was great, from the popcorn at Union Station (YOU MUST GET THE CHEDDAR AND CARAMEL MIX AT UNION STATION. IT IS THE BEST POPCORN.) to the $600+ per plate price fixe at Alinea (the only good thing I ever got from an ex). I feel like Sam @copperbadge has a more "a la minute" (hyuk hyuk) set of opinions about Chicago dining than I do -- like I said, a lot of the places that I really liked didn't survive the pandemic or they're outside of the city itself.
Oh! And it is sort of touristy but also very nerdy: the International Museum of Surgical Science. There's an exhibit right now about Frankenstein!
Honestly, looking at the MPCA/ACA website, I'm just jealous you get to be doing/seeing that all weekend. I feel like that's the nerdiest and most fun-seeming ticket in town. What are you there to present or see specifically?? I'm so intrigued!

Voltage Fighting Gowcaizer (1995) 超人学園ゴウカイザー
Date: September 18, 1995 Platform: PlayStation / Neo Geo / Neo Geo CD / Arcade Developer: Technos Japan Corp. Publisher: SNK Genre: Fighting Theme: Sci-Fi / Martial Arts / Superhero Director: Da Zhang Zhengji Screenwriter: Kengo Asai Starring: Nobuyuki Hiyama / Satoshi Sakurai / Hikaru Midorikawa / Ryutaro Oki / Yumi Fuyuma / Noriko Kuwajima / Akira Hayami / Hideyuki Hori / Yoshiyuki Kono / Ai Orikasa / Yuko Nagashima /Makiko Omoto / Hideo Ishikawa Genre: Action / Science Fiction / Animation Country/Region of Production: Japan Language: Japanese Date: 1996 Duration: 91 minutes Also known as: Chojin gakuen Gowcaizer / Super Gakuen Steel King / Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer IMDb: tt0204034 Type: Appropriation
Summary:
Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer (known in Japan as Choujin Gakuen Gowcaizer, loosely translated to "Superhuman Academy Gowcaizer") is a 2D fighting game developed by Technōs and released by SNK for arcades (running Neo Geo MVS hardware) on September 18, 1995.
The second fighting game from Japanese developer Technōs after the fighting game adaptation of their Double Dragon series, Gowcaizer is themed heavily on superheroes in Japanese pop-culture. The game is known for the ability to give the player's fighter a special move of a defeated opponent (similar to the Mega Man series and obscure fighting game BloodStorm). It's also known for its animated OVA adaptation.
The game was later released for the Neo Geo AVS on October 20, 1995 and ported to the Neo Geo CD on November 24, 1995 (featuring a vocal-laden arranged soundtrack). It was later ported to the Sony PlayStation by Urban Plant on July 17, 1997 exclusive to Japan. This version uses a new gameplay engine (and does not include the arranged soundtrack or the ability to copy moves). Gameplay
By default, the game allows players to earn one special move from each of their defeated opponent (even in VS battles) and use them as their own. Players can only equip one Trace Move at a time, which can either be replaced (after defeating an opponent) or swapped out (after continuing, from a selection of moves from previously-defeated opponents). If the player has previously defeated an opponent that is the same as their current character (or have defeated a mirror match opponent), they can instead opt to gain a more powerful version of their own Trace Move.
Using the Neo Geo service menu, arcade operators can change this mechanic to either allow players to swap out their Trace Moves after every match (similar to continuing), force players to replace their current Trace Move with their defeated opponent's, remove the ability to swap out Trace Moves after continuing, or disable Trace Moves entirely.

Ok I would love 2 know if you have a goodreads or something, you have great taste in books! If you don’t could you share some recent faves?
oh sure! here you go. i will say it's kind of a mess, my reading is equal parts books i'm reading for normal reasons, classic YA comfort rereads, things i'm reading because i know they're bad and i want to study why, and whatever random topic i'm interested in at the moment (you'll find a bunch of north korean defector memoirs near the top of my recently read)
i do have some recent recs though!
THE FORGERY by ave barrera: an art forger in 90s guadalajara vs the architecture constructed to protect the original. there was an indigenous third gender character that i really liked, and some fascinating psychosexuals
THE STARS UNDYING by emery robin: cleopatra in space. mark antony is there and very hot and also a woman now. lavish & beautiful worldbuilding
HOW ANCIENT EUROPEANS SAW THE WORLD by peter s wells: attempts to situate the material artifacts and other traces of copper & bronze age civilizations in their original contexts. book's subtitle is "vision, patterns, and the shaping of the mind in prehistoric times"... i haven't read this one all the way through but i cracked it open and skimmed and it's very readable and instantly extremely fascinating
THE PILLOW BOOK OF SEI SHŌNAGON: commonplace book of a japanese noblewoman circa 1000 CE. she has such a vivid way of describing the world around her.
DARK LORD OF DERKHOLM by diana wynne jones: scathing critique of capitalism disguised as a YA novel. contains so many interesting wizards. the sequel, YEAR OF THE GRIFFIN, is about a closely knit group of friends discovering the horrors of underfunded and overstandardized academia. truly it's immensely delightful. (if you've read a lot of DWJ, you'll know her record for sensitively depicting non-anglo cultures is not great, and these also are very white british woman in the 90s)
hope you find something you enjoy on this list!

Haha oh my i love gyarus! I don't know why, but i love how they look!!! Some people find them tacky or even trashy but theyre super stylish to me! Btw, what do u think of ganguro?
Well, gyary was tacky, but they were endearing because they were free spirited and had a genuine love & dedication for what they were doing. They were bold enough to confront the normative rules of Japan of what considered "appropriate" or "beautiful" for women. Gyaru knew they were repulsive for a lot of regular Japanese men and they didn't care. Absolutely iconic.
Unlike appearances, gyaru was less male pandering than what people may seem when looking at these "bimbo" looking girls. Normie men were scared/repulsed by them ; they were loud, roaming in 'gangs' (found sisterhood was very strong in gyaru culture)... They had quite a bad rep beside the gyaru bubble....
Gyaru also openly talked about their sex lives (I think Egg magazine had a whole "wild" section where models talked about their latest hookups and were showing off their sex toys💀) and it was extremely bold of them to do in a society where (non AV(=porn star)) women explicitly talking about enjoying sex is also a taboo/turn-off for men (in many hentai or p0rn in general, the less consent from the girl, the better right?)
Also the reputation of gyaru being trashy/having a questionable hygiene comes from the fact that it was a thing for a bunch of them to sleep with their makeup on....to keep wearing the next day because it was so expensive/time-consuming 🥴 lol
Gyaru was a VERY high maintenance (nails, makeup, hair extension, tanning, clothing...) and it was hard for some of them -especially those who for some were still in high school- to keep up with it financially (hence the whole 援助交際 / enjokousai thing -which is basically sugar baby'ing-)
As for ganguro..........let's say......it wouldn't fly so well today xD
I mean............💀💀💀💀
Tbh I don't mind Japanese girl ruining their skin at the tanning salon to look exotic and subversive....but yeah as a Black woman, it was pretty "fascinating" to witness it in real time.
I never thought ganguro wanted to "look Black"'" but rather be a subversion of the whole traditional "pale" beauty standards of Japanese culture, and therefore become as dark as possible.
If Black people have issue with ganguro, they should have the same energy against waves and Black women literally pasting Asian women hair on their head. At least ganguro tanned their own skin 🥴 Once Asian women start claiming weaves and start asking Black women to stop appropriating their hair it will be done for weaves wearers...........💀💀💀

Happy Sunday!! I hope you’re having a good weekend!!
How are you?!
Omg I can’t believe May is almost over. I have no idea where the time is going, time feels like its going so fast, but I don’t know how I made it through all those solar eclipses, mercury retrogrades, and whatever else was going on. Like the drama and change that went on, I need a beach getaway. 🏖️🏝️⛱️☀️🐚

I love that Addicted Jorja Smith song you shared, after you shared it that time and the first time I listened to it the next song that played was this: https://open.spotify.com/track/7DYkWTA0ckaqm2MFfAIlQr?si=b34ebdf93d9d4c04
And before I forget again because I have been meaning to share this artist with you for awhile: Kota the Friend: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2AfU5LYBVCiCtuCCfM7uVX?si=uBeMLGacS3a-DxQMe5hevA
I haven’t listened to him yet, but my friend who’s really into rap likes him and I thought of you when he told me about him. What’s interesting about Kota, is that he has stayed independent, even tho he’s gotten some major offers. But he likes to do his own thing, which I respect and get. Like I don’t wanna be told with to do with my work either.
Stay good my friend 🌺🌺🌺✨✨🌷🌠🌌🌃🐝
🎶
Omg I know you sent this so long ago bestie. I finally listened to them all. Agh so much new music to listen to. I’ve been on a podcast kick though lately.
🎶🎼🎵 🎶🎼🎵 🎶🎼🎵 🎶🎼🎵 🎶🎼🎵
— Love the Kesha song and I think I heard it somewhere else before. Anyway! I need to listen to her new album.
— pretty girl era song I’ve never heard and I love it!
— need to listen to that full George Ezra album
— you like the weepies too? Somebody loved, I’m sure I’ve mentioned here and shared with you, but it makes me cry every fucking time. I really like what you shared.
— stop! Absolutely Story of a Girl is like one of my favorite childhood songs. She will be loved by Maroon 5 follows perfectly. Same girl I’m convinced :)
— strawberry kisses literally sounds so early 2000s. I know it is but it’s kinda funny how exactly it fits that type of pop. Nostalgic for sure.
— I love Ray LaMontagne and this song so much. Beautiful. I think you need brass for it to really be a love song for me. I have said this before but like classic pop, like Frank Sinatra, is what falling in love sounds like to me. It mimics that feeling.
— Tove Lo. Fuck yes! Underrated pop star. She’s one of my favorites.
— I love this song! Orion sun, I will have to check out more of their stuff.
Here’s stuff I’ve been bumping :)
I hope you like some of these songs! I miss you and love you. Hope you’ve been doing well, music nonnie.

Shibuyala, 400 S Baldwin Ave B13, Arcadia, CA 91007
I’ve seen Shibuyala before but I didn’t know what type of store it was till I walked by the new location at the Shops at Santa Anita. Think of the Japanese cosmetics and skin care products you see at places like Tokyo Central, Mitsuwa, Takashima, and Maneki Neko. It’s a J-beauty store but they also have Japanese snacks, Japanese vending machines, plush toys, etc. I didn’t recognize most of the brands but I did recognize the Sanrio characters, Anpan Man, Pokemon, etc.
The store is bright with pink dogs and kawaii items everywhere you turn. There’s an extensive selection of beauty face masks. You’ll also find imported bags of KitKat, slippers, seat cushions, blankets, keychains, hair accessories, pens, etc.
The shelves are lit too. They play lively Japanese music. It feels like you’re shopping in Japan. Sign up for the rewards program.
I did notice that they had a lot of employees who seem to follow you to watch you.
4 out of 5 stars

"'BLACK MARKET' IN COAL CADI TO BOOST PENALTIES," Toronto Star. October 14, 1943. Page 2. ---- Jails Driver 60 Days When Load 896 Pounds Short ---- OFFENCE PREVALENT ---- "A" Police Court, City Hall, Magistrate Browne. "Stealing coal is a very prevalent offence and is increasing all the time. Citizens pay for coal and do not get it," declared Magistrate Browne in sentencing Jack Russell, a coal driver to 60 days in jail on a charge of stealing coal from his employer.
Mannis Frankel defence counsel, pleaded with the court to reduce the sentence. "There is a black market in this city, and if stealing coal continues I am thinking of increasing the penalty," replied his worship.
Fred Downer. city inspector, stated that at a house on Applegrove Ave. where accused delivered a load of coal, "I measured and weighed the coal and found it 896 pounds short."
Russell claimed he delivered all the coal that was on the truck. "I did not steal any," he said.
George Shelley admitted stealing an overcoat from a parked auto, and was sentenced to three months. The accused was seen taking the coat and was chased by a citizen and handed over to the police," testified Det. Roy Perry.
Four years in penitentiary wan the sentence given Michael Berenda, [PICTURED, RIGHT] who pleaded guilty of wounding Mrs. V. Hapichuk, causing her bodily harm. Complainant said accused had been molesting her for some months. "He wanted me to live with him. I refused. He said he would kill me. On Aug. 4 I was on my way to work with another woman and was beaten up. I was in a hospital nine weeks," she said.
George Patterson stated he was leaving his home on Maria St., Oct. 4. "I saw the two women." said witness. "Then I saw accused strike, one over the head with a hammer. He hit her a second time and she fell and he hi her again. I chased him and he pulled out an open knife and slashed his throat. I called the police.
Dr. D. P. Philip said Mrs. Haplchuk received two skull fractures and other injuries.
M. Frankel, defence counsel, said accused cut his throat.
Charged with stealing radio parts from their employer. Hishashi Fududa. Charles Kadota and Yukin Watanabe, Japanese, pleaded guilty. Histoshi Moriyama, also a Japanese, admitted stealing two electric motors from his employers. All were remanded to Oct. 21 for sentence.
Sergt. William Martin stated he found about $200 worth of radio parts in Kadota's room. "In Fududa's room I found $20 worth of parts and in Watanabe's room radio parts valued at $55," he said. "They all admitted taking them from the radio firm where they were employed. In Moriyama's room I found two motors he said he stole," said witness.
"There is no suggestion they were going to send messages or anything," said T. Elmore, defence counsel. "They are efficient workers"
"They are efficient thieves," said Magistrate Browne.
DRIVES CAR ZIG-ZAG ---- D Police Court, City Hall. Magistrate Pritchard. A fine of $25 and costs or 70 days was imposed on Norman Claridge, who pleaded guilty to careless driving.
Constable Ella testified he had observed accused driving in a zig- zag manner on the wrong side of Fleet St. early today. There were four persons in the front seat of the car and accused had been drinking and was in no condition to drive, the officer said.
"If the two pedestrians had not quickened their pace, or if they had stopped walking until I got past, I could have cut in front of them and the accident would have been avoided," declared Pte. Themas Walker, who pleaded not guilty of dangerous driving.
Testimony disclosed that Jack McLean, 38 of Shafisbury Ave, had died of injuries on Oct. 3 after having been in collision with a motor- cycle driven by accused on Sept. 29 at Weston Rd. and Northlands Ave.
George Devano said he and Mr. McLean were crossing from the southwest corner of Northlands Ave. and Weston Rd. to the east side of Weston Rd.
"I was slightly in advance," he said. "Mr. McLean took a more diagonal course. I observed a motorcycle and automobile a block away. The first Intimation I had of the accident was when I heard the motorcycle sliding on its side along the pavement behind me. No warning signal had been given, Mr. McLean was lying unconscious."
Witness did not think the motorcycle had been travelling at an excessive rate of speed.
"I find there was an error of calculation on the part of accused in Judging progress of the pedestrians crossing the street, and I find that accused is guilty of careless driving. The penalty will be $35 and costs or one month," said his worship.
IGNORES ARMY CALL ---- C Police Court, City Hall, Magistrate Prentice. "The letter was delivered to your home and there was no reason why you did not receive it," commented Magistrate Prentice, sentencing Maria Priola, to 30 days in jail for failure to report for military service.
Douglas Morrison, chief of records for selective service, said accused was ordered to report for military service on Aug. 27, but so far as he knew had not done so.
Joseph Spalla, mail carrier, said he delivered a registered letter to accused's home about two months.
Priola said he did not receive any letter during the past two months. "I did not do any dodging aaround," he said. "I have now joined the army and am supposed to report today."
Gerrard G. Dennis and Charles M. Conron, jointly charged on three counts of breaking and entering, pleaded guilty. Both were remanded to Oct. 21 for sentence.
"Conron was on three jobs, while Dennis was alone on the rest," said Detective A. Morrison.
"They seem to have a penchant for French doors," remarked Crown Attorney Malone after the detective recounted how entries were made by breaking a glass in French doors at the rear of the houses.
"Dennis has a long, bad record. but he has been helpful in connection with these thefts, and has served four terms for exactly the same kind of thefts." [AL: Berenda was married, with no kids, a Polish immigrant with a poor mastery of English, and worked as a factory hand at the same place his victim worked. He was convicted of wounding. He had no previous criminal record. At Kingston penitentiary he was convict #7473 and worked in excavation, but was transferred by January 1944 to the low-security Collin's Bay Penitentiary. From there he was paroled in late 1945. He never came back to prison.]

TS Pornstars
TS Pornstars
She has also done plenty of adult modeling and even has images of her in bondage and BDSM type setups. She began working in the industry in the 1980s and even is known to be in a few underground porn videos when censorship laws were big in Japan. Eri worked as a teacher at the AV Cultures School to help train future AV directors.
Hottest black pornstars
The Japanese porn star Ruri Sato is known for her natural sex talent and her beautiful breasts. Ruri has no problem performing in off-center adult scenes that include bondage, hardcore, and extreme sex. You can see her in wild threesomes, lesbian scenes, groups sex scenes, and she always wears the cute Japanese porn lingerie and is generous in giving her co-stars pleasure. It is a little well-known fact that Ruri loves swimming during her free. It would be wonderful to get an in-person glance of that body in a bikini and of course nude.
