I feel it deep within my soul that I'll never carry and birth a child myself. I fear I'll die childless and I don't know how to feel about it

When will they stop trying to adapt Wuthering Heights and realize that what we actually need is a new The Tenant of Wildfell Hall adaptation
#imagine a tenant adaptation with jane eyre 2011 vibes... the ost that dario marianelli could give us...#also what's crazy is that i think jacob elordi and margot robbie could kiiiinda work as gilbert and helen?#not my ideal casting by any means but they would be def less miscasted than as HEATHCLIFF AND CATHERINE#(we had one (1) non white heathcliff and everyone said ''let's never do that again!'' i hate it here :))))#disclaimer i don't want emmerald fennell to adapt tenant lol i just wish there was a new adaptation#wuthering heights#the tenant of wildfell hall

Charlotte's use of the vampire, however, is metaphorical in nature: Bertha symbolizes the destructive behavior of humanity, showing that horror is often a part of ordinary life. — Julie A. Thilmany, Draining life forces: vampirism in Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights

i think very often about that telegraph article from 2011 asking various writers if they prefer wuthering heights or jane eyre, and blake morrison said:
Asking which you prefer out of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre is similar to the questions, “Are you John Lennon or Paul McCartney?” and “Are you cat or dog?” The more exciting people are John Lennon, cat and Wuthering Heights. But I am Paul McCartney, dog and Jane Eyre.
#text post#charlotte bronte#emily bronte#wuthering heights#jane eyre#i think about it bc i am also mccartney dog and jane eyre#also sorry if you click on that article it is behind a paywall. it wasn't at least a few years ago when i read it#but everything gets worse#anyway lennon/cat/wuthering heights ppl have a way of scoffing at mocking us mccartney/dog/jane eyre ppl and we have had it. had it i say!#fwiw i love both lead beatles and all three bronte sisters and well... cats dont come close to being as precious as dogs to me#but i like them somewhat#jane eyre is just my favorite thing. god. i should reread it in 2024#i almost said in 2023. bruh. i still think i'm in 2022 tbh#some days i think it's still the 2010s#anyway morrison was onto smth when it comes to matching vibes of this-or-that questions

YA contemporary coming-of-age graphic novel
When sixteen-year-old Phoebe Zito moves to a new school in Los Angeles after recently coming out as a trans girl, she's taken under the wing of popular girl girl Mackenzie, who decides to teach Phoebe how to survive and thrive as a girl in high school
Thrust into a new world of dating and social dynamics, Phoebe must figure out where her heart lays and how to stay true to herself
#the art in this is cute!#i thought the different ways the story showcases the transmisogyny that phoebes faces was interesting and well-done#both people who are uncomfortable with her trans identity and people who tokenize or fetishize it#i would say this is a bit darker than the cover makes it look#there's several uses of a homophobic slur and some violence/assault#none of which is portrayed as a good thing obvs but heads up#i enjoyed the intertextuality of jane eyre and little shop of horrors#prob my fave bit was phoebe and mackenzie developing hobbies outside of boys in the 2nd half#surfing! musical theater!#apparently this is inspired by clueless which i am not familiar with#but it also gave me mean girls vibes too a bit#like taken in by the popular clique and struggling to stay true to yourself etc#always glad to see more trans girls in YA#honestly wish there'd been more of the surfing and her relationship with her dad#but i get that the arc was her learning to prioritize stuff for herself and not boyfriends#girlmode#magdalene visaggio#paulina ganucheau#2025 reads#lulu speaks#lulu reads#lulu reads girlmode#books#comics

"The Jaguar's Box", mystery.
The Jaguar's Box by Charlotte Green
With no other options, Violet Archer takes a position as a governess in an isolated English manor, despite the dark rumors swirling around the master of the house, who has recently returned from foreign climes. She does her best to remember her place, but when she uncovers a strange box, she can't help opening it, and what she finds inside sets her to chasing after a treasure and unraveling a conspiracy that has had her employer in its clutches for far too long.
#imaginary books recs#whoever said this was jane eyre girl detective was so right#though i also get vibes of 'sherlock holmes client with no sherlock to help them'#the gothic atmosphere is so spot on without devolving into parody#it's definitely a modern book but it captures that classic feel and doesn't impose modern standards on the heroine#and i cannot tell you how much i appreciated it
