Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI-03) has it in for teens.
Congressman Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin is a MAGA Republican who has a habit of disrespecting teens.
‘Jackasses,’ ‘little s‑‑‑‑’: GOP congressman curses out teenage Senate pages
Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) is in hot water after he cursed out a group of teenage Senate pages in the Capitol rotunda early Thursday morning.
According to a transcript written by a page minutes after the incident and obtained by The Hill, Van Orden called the pages “jackasses” and “pieces of s‑‑‑,” and told them he didn’t “give a f‑‑‑ who you are.”
The pages are a group of 16- and 17-year-olds who assist Senate operations, and when the Senate works late — as it did Wednesday night on National Defense Authorization Act amendments — pages generally rest nearby in the rotunda.
“Wake the f‑‑‑ up you little s‑‑‑‑. … What the f‑‑‑ are you all doing? Get the f‑‑‑ out of here. You are defiling the space you [pieces of s‑‑‑],” Van Orden said, according to the account provided by the page.
“Who the f‑‑‑ are you?” Van Orden asked, to which one person said they were Senate pages. “I don’t give a f‑‑‑ who you are, get out.”
“You jackasses, get out,” he added.
The incident, which occurred just after midnight, outraged members of the upper chamber, with one calling the string of remarks “horrible.”
[ ... ]
Van Orden did not dispute the exchange and defended his actions when asked by The Hill.
“The history of the United States Capitol Rotunda, that during the Civil War it was used as a field hospital and countless Union soldiers died on that floor, and they died because they were fighting the Civil War to end slavery. And I think that place should be treated with a tremendous amount of respect for the dead,” he said.
Van Ordrn’s defense was pathetic and hypocritical when you look into the company he keeps.
GOP Candidate Bankrolled Jan. 6 Riot Trip With Campaign Cash
Van Orden, a former Navy SEAL and small-time actor, has previously acknowledged attending the Jan. 6 rally, but has repeatedly claimed he never entered the Capitol grounds. However, social media posts from the riot suggest that isn’t true.
A Facebook image from Jan. 6 shows Van Orden standing on a wall on the Capitol grounds that was inside a restricted area. (The Daily Beast recreated the photo on Friday and confirmed that Van Orden would have had to cross police barricades to reach that area.)
Yep, Van Orden was one of the terrorists who assaulted the US Capitol on 06 January 2021. He yelled at teen Senate pages for taking pictures of the rotunda while lying down – apparently a tradition for pages. But did Van Orden yell at his terrorist buddies who smeared their own shit on the Capitol?
MAGA mob rioters smeared their own feces throughout the Capitol and 'tracked brown footprints' in several hallways during violent siege
But wait, there’s more!
Back in his home district, Van Orden yelled at a teen library assistant for a Pride Month display at the public library.
Congressional candidate Derrick Van Orden confronted teen library staffer over Gay Pride display
A staffer at a southwestern Wisconsin library says a Republican congressional candidate threatened her over a gay pride display.
Kerrigan Trautsch, a page at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Library, told the La Crosse Tribune that Derrick Van Orden came into the library on June 17 and complained loudly about a display of fiction and nonfiction books about homosexuality in the children’s section. The display was part of the library’s efforts to recognize Pride Month.
Trautsch, who was 17 at the time, describes herself as an advocate for the LGBTQ community. She said Van Orden was angry, and that he said the books offended him and that taxpayers shouldn’t have to see them.
[ ... ]
“He was full-on shouting at this point and he kept aggressively shoving the books around,” she said.
Van Orden ended up checking out every book from the display except one a library patron was already reading, she said. She went home and told her parents that she didn’t feel safe at work anymore.
He’s obviously a homophobe in addition to being a pal of poop smearing insurrectionists.
Van Orden is a first-class asshole. He fits in well in a GOP caucus which includes Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, George Santos, and Lauren Boebert.
Many high profile House GOP assholes like MJT come from super safe districts. But that isn’t the case with Van Orden.
In 2022 Democratic Gov. Tony Evers carried Van Orden’s WI-03. And Van Orden himself won by only 3.8% of the vote last year.
Tumblr media
The right sort of Democrat with a good campaign could send Van Orden back to MAGAland where he can smear the walls with poop like his friends on January 6th.
Here’s WI-03.
Tumblr media
Though it’s gerrymandered, WI-03 does contain four branches of the University of Wisconsin system. So Florida students trying to escape Ron DeSantis’s takeover of that state’s universities can find refuge at a U of W campus in Wi-03 while helping to make House Republicans a minority again.
And keep WI-03 in mind next year if you like to make individual contributions to congressional candidates.

Hours after supporters of President Trump stormed the Capitol, industry groups and C.E.O.s called for an end to the chaos.

Jan. 6, 2021Updated 6:56 p.m. ET
Business groups and leaders of large corporations condemned the violence on Capitol Hill that disrupted efforts to certify the election of President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. on Wednesday.
Hours after supporters of President Trump forced lawmakers from the floors of the Senate and House of Representatives, the Business Roundtable, a group of chief executives from some of the nation’s largest companies, called on the president and other officials to “put an end to the chaos and facilitate the peaceful transition of power.”
“The chaos unfolding in the nation’s capital is the result of unlawful efforts to overturn the legitimate results of a democratic election,” the organization posted on Twitter.
The National Association of Manufacturers, one of the country’s largest lobbying groups, suggested that Vice President Mike Pence should consider invoking a provision of the 25th Amendment that allows members of the president’s cabinet to temporarily remove him from power.
“Anyone indulging conspiracy theories to raise campaign dollars is complicit,” the association said. “Vice President Pence, who was evacuated from the Capitol, should seriously consider working with the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to preserve democracy.”
“This is sedition,” the group said of the actions of the mob, and said Mr. Trump had incited the violence.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce also denounced the violence.
“The attacks against our nation’s Capitol building and our democracy must end now,” said Thomas J. Donohue, the chamber’s chief executive, in a statement. “The Congress of the United States must gather again this evening to conclude their constitutional responsibility to accept the report of the Electoral College.”
“Today’s riots are repugnant and fly in the face of the most basic tenets of our Constitution,” said Matthew Shay, the president chief executive of the National Retail Federation, the world’s largest retail trade association.
Other business leaders spoke out individually, though many avoided calling out the president and other politicians by name. “I strongly condemn the violence in our nation’s capital,” Jamie Dimon, the chief executive of JPMorgan Chase, said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
“Our elected leaders have a responsibility to call for an end to the violence, accept the results and, as our democracy has for hundreds of years, support the peaceful transition of power,” he said. “Now is the time to come together to strengthen our exceptional union.”

“Though Juneteenth has recently gained nationwide attention, and just became a federal holiday, it originated as a Texas-specific celebration of the end of slavery. Other states and regions have their own traditions for marking Emancipation: Crucially, these celebrations have different dates from place to place, because freedom was gained through wildly different ways for Black people across this country. These are outlined in Mitch Kachun’s excellent book ‘Festivals of Freedom.’
In New York State, where gradual Emancipation was put into place to ease white fears at the expense of Black comfort, Emancipation Day was celebrated on the 5th of July. Celebrating on the 5th became a way to avoid the white mobs that often attacked Black people they saw daring to celebrate the Fourth of July. Indeed, in 1876, the year of the country’s centennial, many white newspapers ran articles deploring free Black people celebrating the country’s 100th anniversary of freedom — they dressed too finely and partied too elegantly, the newspapers said. It was above their station to do so.
Some Black communities in the North and South have also celebrated Emancipation Day on the 1st of January, because that was when Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation into law (with the caveat that it applied only to enslaved people in rebelling territories — those in border states and territories in the Union, including Maryland, Missouri and West Virginia, among others, remained legally enslaved). Black churches usually hosted those dates, with watch nights on New Year’s Eve melding together with communitywide celebrations on Jan. 1.
To me, these myriad celebrations reflect what is so revolutionary about Black history. One of the powerful things about Blackness is that it undermines the idea of borders and complicates the dream of nationhood. These complications are part of why studying Black history is considered by many to be so dangerous. They are why we are in a nationwide moral panic about the possibility of children learning Critical Race Theory. The varied regional histories of Emancipation Day celebrations are a reminder that freedom in this country has never meant the same thing to everyone, has definitely never been experienced the same, and has always been conditional.
The first time I celebrated Emancipation Day was a July 5 in the late 2000s, maybe a year or so after Barack Obama was elected president. I stood on a makeshift stage in a community garden in central Brooklyn and, along with a crowd of other Black Brooklynites, raised a small glass of cold water (many Emancipation Day celebrations shun alcohol because of the close ties between the abolition and temperance movements, and because Black communities were afraid historically to celebrate too boisterously in predominantly white areas like Brooklyn). We shouted, “to freedom!” The event was free. The only cost to show your appreciation of the idea of Black liberation was a suggested donation.
So, I look a little askance at Juneteenth T-shirts for sale in Walmart and the recent declaration of Juneteenth as a federal holiday. Juneteenth is not a part of any state’s history except Texas. But it is perhaps easier for some white Northerners to tut at the duplicity of white Texas slaveholders than to look at how Black people became free in their own states — as in Massachusetts, through having to sue for their freedom.
...But mostly, I am sad because when a holiday becomes co-opted like this, those who can gain a sense of self and solidarity from celebrating it often lose it. The agency that comes from deciding your own traditions — a cold water toast, a watch night — becomes lost to a corporate calendar and a megastore selling you a Juneteenth cookout checklist. You can lose sight of the possibility that exists in marginalized histories, which is the space to imagine another, better world.“

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
June 24, 2021
Heather Cox Richardson
Shortly after noon today, President Biden announced to reporters, “We have a deal.” After weeks of negotiations, a bipartisan group of 5 Democratic and 5 Republican senators have agreed to a blueprint for an infrastructure bill with $973 billion in spending, $579 billion of it new. If 5 more Republicans sign on—and if all the Democrats vote yes—this bill can overcome any filibusters thrown in its path.
In this case, progressive Democrats are as much a sticking point as Republicans, for in order to get Republicans on board, the measure abandons a number of key Democratic priorities. So Democratic leaders have planned for the measure to move forward in tandem with a much larger package that includes Democratic priorities, including funding to combat climate change and to support the caregiver economy. It will likely also start to undo the cuts in the corporate tax rate Republicans pushed through in 2017. The bill is currently estimated to cost about $6 trillion, and it would pass through the budget reconciliation process, which cannot be filibustered and thus will require only a simple majority.
Both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Biden say they will not finish the infrastructure bill without the larger companion bill. Passing the infrastructure package gives Biden a major bipartisan win at the same time it lets Republicans take credit for infrastructure funding that most Americans like very much indeed. But if Republicans refuse to pass it, Democrats have the option of simply passing the larger measure without them.
This is a remarkably delicate balancing act that shows a lot of hard work. We’ll see how it plays out.
Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives, Speaker Pelosi is starting to force a reckoning with the January 6 insurrection. Last month, the House of Representatives passed a bill to create an independent, bipartisan committee to investigate that crisis. The positive House vote included 35 Republicans, but in the Senate, Republicans killed the bill with the filibuster. Today, Pelosi announced she is establishing a select committee to investigate the insurrection. While the distribution of seats on the committee is not yet clear, it will have subpoena power and will publish its findings.
Unlike the independent committee Republicans shot down, this one is under no time constraint, leaving Republicans afraid the investigation will affect the 2022 election. In 2015, now–House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Fox News Channel personality Sean Hannity that Republicans had put together one of the investigations of the attack on the U.S. compound at Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, to hurt then–Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s political future. Now leaders are afraid the Democrats will do the same thing to them.
Pressure is mounting on those who supported former president Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Today, an appellate court in New York suspended Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani from practicing law, concluding that he had made “demonstrably false and misleading statements to courts, lawmakers and the public at large in his capacity as lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump and the Trump campaign in connection with Trump’s failed effort at reelection in 2020.” Since he lied to spread the Big Lie that Trump had won the election, the court concluded that his “conduct immediately threatens the public interest.”
The court continued: "The seriousness of respondent's uncontroverted misconduct cannot be overstated…. This country is being torn apart by continued attacks on the legitimacy of the 2020 election and of our current president, Joseph R. Biden. The hallmark of our democracy is predicated on free and fair elections. False statements intended to foment a loss of confidence in our elections and resulting loss of confidence in government generally damage the proper functioning of a free society."
It is an astonishing fall for a man who was U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, the top federal lawyer in Manhattan, before he was mayor of New York City.
Meanwhile, more information about the Trump administration continues to come to light. Earlier this week we learned that the White House response to coronavirus was determined by what officials thought would look good; today we learned that Trump was far closer to death with Covid-19 than the White House let on, surviving only thanks to rare experimental drugs. His science advisers hoped his brush with death would convince him to take the pandemic seriously, but it did not.
According to CNN, a forthcoming book by Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender says that last summer, Trump wanted law enforcement and military officials to go in and "beat the f--k out" of the civil rights protesters. “Just shoot them,” he is alleged to have said repeatedly. The book suggests that it was then–Attorney General William Barr and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mike Milley, who held him back.
Like the former president, his supporters are talking more and more violently as the country seems to be slipping out of their control.
Will Sommer, politics reporter at the Daily Beast who is currently writing a book on QAnon, yesterday flagged a clip from a contributor to the right-wing conspiracy network OAN. The contributor repeated the lie that “voter fraud” undermined the 2020 election, but then went further: “What are the consequences for traitors who meddled with our sacred democratic process and tried to steal power by taking away the voices of the American people?” he asked.
"In the past, America had a very good solution for dealing with such traitors,” he said. “Execution.”
"Exactly how many people were involved in these efforts to undermine the election?" he asked. "Hundreds? Thousands? Tens of thousands? How many people does it take to carry out a coup against the presidency?"
Historians rightly recognize this rhetoric as deadly dangerous, but we are not the only ones. On Twitter, California Democratic Representative Ted Lieu begged House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to stop this escalation while it is still possible: “You are in a position to reduce violence. Lives are potentially at stake. Please just say one simple, truthful sentence: the election was not stolen.”
Michigan Representative Peter Meijer was more specific: “Let me be clear,” he tweeted. “[M]ore people will die [because] of craven propaganda like this. People who believe [the] election was a “coup” + view [government] officials as traitors will seek what they view as ‘justice.’ When there are no arrests [because] this is all a lie they will take matters into their own hands.”
Indeed, Sommer tweeted: “I came across the clip because QAnon people… see it as proof that the mass executions are right around the corner. Lots of glee in the Q chat rooms, demands for how exactly their imagined executions will be carried out and complaints they had to wait too long.”
Yesterday, an official from the Department of Homeland Security told members of the House Committee on Homeland Security that the department is following online discussions among extremists who believe the conspiracy theory that former president Trump will be reinstated in August. They fear that expectation could trigger violence.

What happened at the US Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021: protest turns to riot
On December 19th, Donald Trump tweets encouraging his supporters to gather on January 6th 2021. “Be there. Will be wild.” Tweets similarly 3 more times before the day.
Closer to the date pro-Trump citizens discuss violence, “occupying the Capitol” and carrying firearms on social media (check out what the Capitol is at: https://www.aoc.gov/explore-capitol-campus/buildings-grounds/capitol-building)
Trump addresses his followers at the Ellipse, near the White House, in a “Save America” speech, which many attribute to the violent behavior of the mob  (check out the transcript: https://www.rev.com/blog/transcripts/donald-trump-speech-save-america-rally-transcript-january-6)
Following the speech, supporters gather at the outside the Capitol premises, chanting slogans and carrying pro-Trump flags.
As the Senate starts counting their presidential votes to confirm Biden’s win, the crowd starts a scuffle with the Capitol police force and in minutes, overpowers them to barge into the boundary. (check out video clips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfsvmm5azck)
Some of the protesters scale the Capitol building (check out video clips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S24YrJFjmM)
On gaining entry to the building, the supporters barge into the hallways
( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ithgUloNR8), destroying windows offices, looting and vandalizing them.  Some even entered the senate, disrupting the ongoing counting of vote. (check out the destruction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4A9qtnGAo8)
Trump tweets twice, asking his supporters to stand down and “stay peaceful”. Later, he posts a now taken down video of Trump praising his followers and once again accuses the election of having been fraudulent. A couple of hours later he tweets about being “unfairly treated” and calls upon his followers to “remember the day”.
Following this, Twitter permanently suspends Trump’s account on grounds of inciting violence; Facebook, YouTube and other social media companies to delete the videos containing his baseless claims of a rigged election. (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-trump-twitter-removal/twitter-deletes-new-trump-tweets-on-potus-suspends-campaign-account-idUSKBN29E02H
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/06/facebook-twitter-youtube-trump-video-supporters-capitol)
Washington DC police announced later at night a death toll of 5 people, many others were injured due to the violent clash between supporters and police force.
A video, showing Trump, his son Trump Jr, and other associates enjoying, posted a few hours before the riots, goes viral (check out the video: https://www.wionews.com/world/video-donald-trump-was-partying-just-hours-before-capitol-hill-violence-355417 )

Anti Vaccine Doctor Imprisoned For Storming Capital
A California doctor who is a leading figure in the anti-vaccine movement was sentenced on Thursday to two months in prison for storming the U.S. Capitol, where she delivered speeches to rioters during the mob’s attack.
U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper in Washington, D.C., also sentenced Dr. Simone Gold to 12 months of supervised release after her 60-day prison term and ordered her to pay a $9,500 fine. She can report to prison at a date to be determined.
Gold, a former emergency room physician, said she deeply regrets entering the Capitol during the riot on Jan. 6, 2021, and didn’t intend to get involved in an event that was “so destructive to our nation.”
“It’s the opposite of who I am,” she told Cooper.
Gold founded America’s Frontline Doctors. a group known for purveying COVID-19 misinformation. The Beverly Hills-based doctor, a Stanford Law School graduate, has over 480,000 followers on Twitter. She has condemned COVID-19 lockdowns and promoted the use of unproven and potentially dangerous drugs as coronavirus treatments.

The Explosive Mix of Sex and Violence
The sexual assaults in Cologne reveal a connection between sex and violence.
The roving gangs of men who sexually assaulted women during the New Year’s Eve celebration in Cologne, Germany, have ignited outrage across Europe and around the world. (1)  The political implications have been much discussed, but how was this violence triggered in these individuals? These assaults illuminate a dark side of human nature: how sex and violence are interlinked in the human brain.
A perplexing link between human sexual behavior and violence is evident from an early age when boys tease and punch girls (2) they are attracted to.  Some major league baseball players look at pornography right before they go to the plate to increase their level of aggression. Thirty percent of all internet traffic is pornography, and 88 percent of this contains physical aggression. (3) In the extreme, sadistic sexual behavior can develop from the intertwining of sex and violence in the human brain.   As crowds grow and become unruly, especially if alcohol and other drugs are involved, gang sexual assault can erupt with awful spontaneity.
Biologically, sex and violence share a number of common brain states and functions.  Both behaviors evoke intense arousal--indeed, the most intense states of arousal possible.  Fighting and mating share some of the same neural circuits, neurotransmitters and hormones of arousal, and both activities strongly stimulate the brain’s reward and pleasure systems.  This brain circuitry can lead men to seek out violence, to pick fights for no apparent reason other than to derive satisfaction from the rewarding feeling that comes from the shot of dopamine in the brain accompanying aggression.  This is the same neurotransmitter boost produced by cocaine and other drugs of addiction.  The neurotransmitter serotonin is also involved in both sexual gratification and in violence. (4)
The biological underpinning for this intersection between sex and violence is a nasty legacy of our primate ancestors.  Many animals, nonhuman primates among them, use violence to obtain and defend mates.   Both aggression and sex are controlled by neurons in the same part of the brain--the hypothalamic attack region.  When researchers stimulate these neurons with electrodes in the brains of mice, the animals instantly engage in violence or in mating, depending on how strongly the neurons are stimulated.(5)  The abrupt switch between mating and fighting is completely under control of the researchers who can flip the animal from mating to fighting by stimulating these neurons at the right intensity. It is an unsettling observation.
The violence of sexual assault combines freely with other crimes of violence, because sex and violence satisfy the same psychological and neurobiological mechanisms that underlie all crimes of violence. Frequently sexual assault is not sexually motivated; it can stem purely from aggression, rage, and dominance.  Sexual assault is a crime of extreme violence, combining elements of robbery, destruction, and cruel brutality using sex as a weapon.  In wartime, sexual assault of women takes place in horrifying numbers—for example, the 276 school girls abducted as sex slaves by Muslim extremists Boko Haram in Nigeria;(6) an estimated 20,000 women to 200,000 women forced into prostitution by Japan during World War II in "comfort stations";(7) and an estimated 2 million German women raped by Soviet soldiers during World War II.
Violence against women is hardly limited to these extreme situations, however. Nearly 20% of all women in the U.S have been sexually assaulted.(8) The alarming statistics on sexual violence against women cut broadly across all walks of life. A 2014 study,(9) for example, found that 20% of female scientists were victims of sexual assault in the workplace. However, the anonymity and chaos of large crowds increase the risk of sexual assault on women, even on a crowded subway, but a mass celebration can inflame extreme mob behavior victimizing women.  Mob violence is stimulated by the intense arousal from sensory stimulation, and the heightened stresses of being buffeted in a noisy, frenzied crowd.  Mob behavior is driven by the strong herding instinct of people to do as they see others do when there is no central authority in control.(10)  At the opposite extreme, this same powerful herding instinct can cause bystander apathy in which no one in a crowd comes to the aid of a person in need.  Tribal identity triggers an “us-vs-them” perception that fuels violence in gangs, barroom brawls, in mobs, and sometimes mêlées between immigrants and residents.
In the recent assaults in Germany, groups of 30-40 men formed spontaneous gangs surrounding women, robbing and brutalizing them sexually.  Similar attacks on women have occurred at Mardi Gras celebrations in Seattle,(11) at out-of-control drunken parties on college campuses, and even at US military conventions, as when 83 women were sexually assaulted by a hundred US Navy and Marine Corps officers in Las Vegas in 1991 in the Tailhook scandal.(12)  These diverse incidents suggest an uncomfortable conclusion.  Violent attacks on women are both sexually and criminally motivated by groups of men in an environment where such animal brutality went unchecked.
Rape is less frequent if social alliances exist to combat it. About 88% of orangutan matings in the wild involve aggressive attacks by males that force the females into submission.(13) Female orangutans are solitary, whereas female gorillas are protected from this level of violence because they live in well-structured troupes that provide mutual protection from aggressive males.  A person’s experience during rearing influences these brain circuits. This is why children raised in an environment where domestic violence occurs will be more likely to exhibit those same behaviors as adults.   This is also why, as is evident in many places around the world, social environments that tolerate sexual aggression and violence against women create a vicious vortex that drives sexual brutality against females.
The majority of those committing the sexual assaults in Cologne, Germany are reported to be men from countries where sexual violence against women is a disturbing social problem. These recent attacks resemble the horrific assault of CBS news correspondent Lara Logan by groups of frenzied men in Tahrir Square during celebration of the downfall of Egypt’s Dictator Hosinni Mubarak in 2011.(15)  On the one-year anniversary of this celebration, nearly 90 women were brutally sexually assaulted in Tahrir Square again by roving gangs of men.(16)
This problem must be faced head-on.  To skirt uncomfortable facts about these assaults out of political concerns or to blame victims will perpetuate the problem.  The mix of cultures brought us Tex-Mex cuisine, and the delightful flavors and sounds of New Orleans, but this also brought small pox to Native Americans. The outbreak in Cologne is not a new disease, but the universal outrage it provokes shows the strong commitment in civil society to stamping it out. It is important to recognize the biological factors that increase danger of sexual violence in mass celebrations and ensure adequate crowd control, but anyone who would sexually assault a woman must be severely punished whether the perpetrator is a despised immigrant in a mob or a beloved personality on TV.

Top News: Supreme Court hears Biden/OSHA vaccine mandate arguments
Yesterday, we had one word to say about President Biden’s “Jan. 6” commemorative speech: DISGRACEFUL. (Well, it was the one printable word we had.) Honestly, it was just too nauseating to write about right then, but perhaps it’ll be a bit less gag-inducing now, with a little distance put between us and it.
Biden repeatedly lied in his roughly 25-minute speech from the hallowed Statuary Hall inside the Capitol complex.
“For the first time in our history,” he lied, “a President had not just lost an election, but tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.” Trump did no such thing and, in fact, was working within the process laid out in the Constitution. His rally was peaceful –- he TOLD participants to be peaceful –- and as such it was an expression of his constitutional right to peacefully protest. Biden implied in his speech that Trump had wanted his supporters to breach the Capitol, to physically prevent the vote from being certified, and had even personally engineered this. That is a lie.
He said Trump had sat in the White House dining room, “doing nothing for hours” with “the nation’s Capitol under siege” and the mob “hunted down members of Congress.” A timeline has been established that shows this, too, is a detestable lie.
Biden went on to lie about the election, too, and its aftermath. As Sophie Mann reports in Just The News, “Biden said there is no evidence, anywhere, to suggest that the results of the election were altered, flawed or in any way untrustworthy.” That claim is false, and recent polling shows most Americans don’t believe it. In fact, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest interference in a variety of creative ways. Was the election stolen outright, by strategically rigging the outcome in carefully targeted locations? We can’t say until enormous questions are answered and essential materials are provided to auditors. The lack of transparency is in itself suspect.
https://justthenews.com/government/white-house/anniversary-january-6-biden-says-trump-tried-prevent-peaceful-transfer-power
Biden didn’t hesitate to get personal about his predecessor, either, and that’s when the speech became shamefully unpresidential. Trump, he said, is someone who “values power over principle.” By refusing to accept the results of the election, he said, Trump is rejecting “the will of the people.” On the contrary, Trump believes the will of the people has been thwarted by those who would get into the White House by hook or by crook.
This pathetic speech was Biden’s own attempt to hold onto power as his presidency is clearly failing. A new Rasmussen poll of likely voters shows that only 28 percent think Biden will be re-elected. Another 21 percent think he’ll resign before the next election. And a plurality of 38 percent think he’ll lose to the Republican candidate. As The New York Times wrote in December, “On top of concerns about Biden’s age and general unpopularity, there is an overarching fear among Democrats of the possibility of a Trump comeback --- and a determination that the party must run a strong candidate to head it off.” Could there BE a weaker candidate for re-election than Joe Biden?
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/01/06/only-28-percent-voters-think-biden-will-be-reelected/
Though the histrionics we saw yesterday seem ridiculously out of proportion to what actually happened (especially when that is compared to many months of BLM/Antifa violence), Glenn Greenwald warns that the Democrat Party and “the dominant wing of the U.S. corporate media” will play this for all it’s worth. “The orgy of psychodrama today was so much worse and more pathetic than I expected --- and I expected it to be extremely bad and pathetic,” he writes. And later, “Far too many centers of political and economic power benefit from an exaggerated and even false narrative about January 6 to expect it ever to end.”
https://greenwald.substack.com/p/the-histrionics-and-melodrama-around
The only thing I can think of that might cause this, if not to end, to at least recede a bit, is the revelation that protesters were “helped” past the barricades and into the Capitol that day, a scenario that seems more plausible all the time. We’ve brought you the excellent National File reporting on that, and here’s another report from Red State that raises more questions...
https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2022/01/06/whatever-happened-to-alleged-capitol-rioter-john-sullivan-n502773
If that’s what happened, it doesn’t excuse Trump supporters for playing along on an extremely ill-advised adventure, but it certainly adds a whole new dimension to the story. One thing Biden never mentioned in his speech was the fact that Trump offered thousands of National Guard troops to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that day –- you know, to keep things peaceful and under control –- and Pelosi, who was in charge of security, turned him down. No, he never said a word about that.
