Since Issue 31 came out on Wednesday instead of the regular Saturday and we tried really hard to make this one on time, we’re back once more, just a few days apart.

~ EVENT SPOTLIGHT : IF Short Games Showcase 2024 ~

December 1st 2024 to January 1st 2025

Short games tend to get less love than longer games in general-purpose, non-speed-IF comps, while the ones released outside of a competition or jam may not get eyes on them at all. The IF Short Games Showcase 2024 aims to give the shorter works their very own place to shine!

The Short Games Showcase is an opportunity to show off shorter interactive fiction works made in the past year (Jan 1, 2024 to Dec 31, 2024), regardless of whether or not they were previously released.

Authors can submit up to three games - each of them should be completable in 30 minutes or less. The showcase has a broad view of IF. It will accept anything usually considered to fall under that umbrella, including parser games, choice-based/choose-your-own-adventure games, visual novels, point-and-clicks, and text-focused Bitsy games. In addition, a work must not have been submitted to more than three prior jams or competitions.

The SGS will have both a Best Overall winner and winners in several specific categories:

Best Use of Short Form

Best Use of Interactivity

Best Story-Focused Game

Best Puzzle-Focused Game

Most Replay Value

Best Previously Unawarded Game

There might be no prizes, but bragging rights are great too.

Once upon a time, a game jam was held to create stories around the theme of fairy tales… and that game jam is the Once Upon A Time VN Jam. It’s running from October 1st to January 31st.

Concours de Fiction Interactive Francophone 2025 is for all French-speaking enthusiasts. Submissions are accepted March 3rd 2025.

Are you perhaps a fan of more somber, melancholic themes? Then check out the Dying Year - Visual Novel Jam! You have until the end of the year to participate.

The Black Visual Novel Jam is all about working with creative professional developers who work in visual novels to bring more Black stories to life. The goal is to create a space where Black creators can show their unique storytelling through visual novels.

IF Short Games Showcase 2024 is a great way to shine some new light on your projects made in the past year (Jan 1, 2024 to Dec 31, 2024), regardless of whether or not they are previously released! You have until January 15th 2025 to join.

You play as the amnesiac protagonist, trapped in a mysterious house with two other captives. You quickly learn that the only way to escape is to have one of the three of you die. Will you kill or be killed? Who is the mastermind? Is there no way for all of you to survive? The mystery deepens as you find that no matter who dies, the killing game begins anew in Yet Another Killing Game (Ren’Py).

Hello, everyone! Now that the interest check poll is closed, I am pleased to announce the dates for the Aylin/Isobel fanweek: January 27th to February 2nd, 2025.

Fanfiction, fanart, fanmixes, meta, edits, and all other forms of participation are welcome, as are NSFW works.

In order to give you as much time as possible to get ready and decide what you'd like to do, here are the themes and prompts for all 7 days of the event. Welcome back to the 2025 edition of Dragon Age Smutquisition. The exchange is still being run by Jarak and a team of lovely mods who remind me to post things (and give me excellent titles). As I said last year, we’re all doomed, but that turned out to be a false alarm, so we might make it through this year too.

If you’ve not gathered what this is:

Nobody Expects the Dragon Age Smutquisition is a fanwork gift exchange that showcases works rated Explicit in the DA Fandom. Any pairings or groups are eligible as long as they contain at least one DA Character from any DA Media. All works must be rated Explicit and tagged appropriately. The minimum is 1000 words or art equivalent (further details on requirements will be available on AO3)

Sneak peek for a future 2025 project!

Firstly, yes, I am still active, just been super busy with everything going on. My goals have been pushed back a bit, but hopefully not by much. My main goal: To start making consistent content in 2025. Which means, making comics ahead of time, to be released more consistently come the next year. Including a new comic/ask blog, that I have been putting a lot of effort into (Animatics involved!)!

Participants must be +18 years old.

Minimum word count is 4k. There is no maximum.

No WIPs, fics must be completed when posted.

This is not an anonymous fest, so don’t hesitate to share your snippets and tag this blog!

The main pairing for the fic must include at least one One Direction member.

All fics should be tagged appropriately, as the content won’t be monitored.

Sign-ups will be first-come first-served if choosing a prompt from the prompt list, or you can choose to write your own prompt.

Make sure you respond to the mod that messaged you with your match info to confirm receipt.

Start thinking about what to create or start working on your gift!

Remind yourself of the minimum requirements for each gift type and make sure any gift you create meets the minimum word count, video length, etc.

If your giftee is on tumblr, we encourage you to send some anonymous messages using their ask box. This can help you learn more about them and build excitement! But please, make sure you are sending your message anonymously before clicking send.

The Whumps of March: Event Planning

I am planning to do prompts inspired by Tolkien's works next year but seeing as how i only really know the Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy I thought I'd open this up for my mutuals (and anyone else) who has read his other works to make suggestions.

What i am looking for:

Whumpy Quotes: A quote from the books (doesn't necessarily need to be dialogue) that is whumpy or could come off that way.

Short Prompt: a single or short sentence descriptor of something whumpy (for example something like 'Stabbed' or 'Running For You Life')

Prompt lists will be finalized Dec 31st/Jan 1st 2025 so i cannot take any suggestions after that point.
