“We came close.” She admits to her uncle. His bushy eyebrows go up.

 

“Claire Elizabeth, you are an adult. You needn’t my permission to…” something in her face stops him, “wait. You haven’t ? Ever?”

 

“No I was waiting for the right person.”

 

“I must admit I am both impressed and shocked. That you have made it to adulthood without… So, he is the right person?”

 

She grins. “He is. Recall that African tribe that spoke of soul mates?” He nods. “That is what he feels like to me and,” she twirls around as he Uncle watches with a bittersweet smile, “I feel like to him. This is love, Uncle Lamb, true lasting real love.”

 

“I am pleased my darling. Quite pleased. You know I never minded and had you, you wouldn’t have heard a word of condemnation from me. Still, the fact you waited until it was done from love, makes me happy.”

 

“Me too. There will be no regrets this way.”

 

Meanwhile

 

“Murtagh, I am in love and it is brilliant!”

 

His cousin laughs.  “This Claire, eh?”

 

“Aye. She is it the one I shall spend my life with, have bairns with.”

 

“That serious?” They hold up another board to place on the pen they are repairing.

 

“Aye. We are soul mates. I know,” He hammers a nail in, “that it sounds corny but…”

 

Murtagh is shaking his head. “Not at all. My own da spoke of lasses and lads that were made for each other. That when they found each other the connection would be so strong that it would be unbreakable. He told me to wait for that person.  I am glad you found her.”

 

“Is that why you haven’t been married.”  He asks, a grin on his face.

 

“Aye, well that and I am a bit to stubborn for a lass to put up with.”

 

They both laugh at this.

 

“So will she be the one you marry?” Murtagh asks. They place another board up.

 

His eyes get dreamy.  “Aye, I won’t be anyone else.”

I recently watched les diables bc I saw someone recommend it on here so I thought I would give out some recommendations in return !

First- Dogtooth is an amazingly disturbing movie with both sister/brother and sister/sister scenes. The cinematography is amazing and the story is unsettling in just the way I love it :)

Second - I watched Eurotrip today and was really surprised that it contained a sister/brother scene pretty much out of nowhere. It was kind of nice to have those themes in a comedy rather than the disturbing and depressing movies I've gotten used to (I do love my disturbing movies tho, don't get me wrong)

I'm glad you followed up on the Les Diables recommendation, I haven't watched that one yet.

I love the combo recommendation of Dogtooth and Eurotrip because they're so hilariously different. Thanks for bringing attention to those two examples of canon incest!

And yes, the twincestuous kiss in Eurotrip is rather unique because it just sort of happens, between likable main characters. A lot of the other comedic incest out there is villainous.

Jamie Bell repurposed

Was watching "The Eagle of the Ninth" with my hubby and realised what a perfect Orym Jamie Bell was. A gorgeous pocket-sized guy with jug-ears and a dancer's build - all he needed was a bit more eyebrows, pointy ears, and a slightly rounder nose, and there we were! He even had a tattoo on his right arm in the movie, and approximately a 31 perception.

It also didn't hurt that most of the ref shots I found of Jamie Bell online were from @shirtlessmoviestv. XD

"For Only Girl (In the World), at the time we were recording that, I was living in this very shitty small town in the South, in the United States, and really fucking hated it. The only kind of good thing about this town was there was a very small lesbian bar, that was open just on Saturdays I think, and they always had a good dance night, and I could walk there basically so I could get really fucking drunk and walk home and not worry about it, so I would go there a whole lot, and then one night I went there and the dance floor was totally empty, there were a lot of people there but no one was dancing, and then the DJ put that song on, and then like all the really super intense butch dykes were on the dance floor all dancing together to that song, and it was the lyrics are “you make me feel like I’m the only girl in the world,” and it was just all of the things: the shitty little town, in the shitty part of the United States, and then this sort of rarified very small lesbian bar, and like butch dykes are a very small specific segment of the queer world with a very specific history, and then this pop song, I’m sure every Rihanna song is like 50 people write it, it’s a song by committee essentially, and even though something that was somewhat sanitized was able to create a very real emotional movement for this marginalized group of people in a marginalized part of the United States, it was very very beautiful to me and it made me hear that song in a totally different way. So, it was as much about wanting to pay tribute to that moment, and to what music can be generally, as much as it was to that song specifically."

in season 3's prom episode of derry girls, it was clear that the dynamics between the mothers when they were in high school were replicated in the next generation too. The four women attended the prom with Diedre's cousin accompanying her (and then all of them). So we have four girls and a male cousin of one of them which is just like the Derry girls' situation. And Rob was openly gay. Doesn't this hint at James being gay/queer too ?

“It has to be special,” she is telling Claire, “it being his first and all.”

 

Claire is impressed by Jenny’s  thoughtfulness. It is, after all, their first Father’s Day without Brian.

 

That she wishes to make sure Jamie is honored, remembered, as her de-facto dad, that says a lot about her. All good.

 

“I think something that comes from the heart would be best. Something that shows how you feel.”

 

“Thanks Claire.” She hugs her and runs off.

 

She brings him breakfast in bed.

 

“What is this then?” He sits up and grins at his sister.

 

“Happy Father’s Day.”

 

He blinks away the tears that are threatening to fall.

 

“Jenny I, ahh thank you.”

 

“I ah, wrote you something.”

 

She shyly hands it over.

 

He reads it and the tears can no longer be held in.

 

‘Jamie,

Happy Father’s Day. Thank you. Thank you that I am not in care, grieving the loss of dad and mam alone. Thank you for seeing to me, I know you didn’t have too. Thank you for holding me when the nightmares come, for making sure I do my homework, for not fussing to much about Ian. Thank you for being the best big brother and dad a lass could have.

I love you. “

 

“I love you too. So so much. Thank you Jenny. I will cherish this.”

 

He has it framed and hung to her great joy.
