"I ripped all her clothes off. She twisted and turned, slow, so they would slip out from under her. Then she closed her eyes and lay back on the pillow. Her hair was falling over her shoulders in snaky curls. Her eye was all black, and her breasts weren't drawn up and pointing at me, but soft, and spread out in two big pink splotches. She looked like the great-grandmother of every whore in the world. The devil got his money's worth that night."

Butterfly (1982)
Pia Zadora Month kicks off 2025 at B-Movie Enema with the 1982 crime drama film that is notorious in several ways - Butterfly.
Happy New Year, Enemaniacs! B-Movie Enema kicks off 2025 with a whole month dedicated to the pint-sized starlet Pia Zadora. Why? Because why not! She’s spunky and cute and she happened to make some pretty bad movies. But where do we start? Santa Claus Conquers the Martians? How dare you think I would stoop so low to pick this low-hanging fruit! No, like lil Pia herself, I’m going for the fuckin’…

«Ci baceremo domani sera, se torno. E saranno baci belli, Frank. Non da ubriachi. Baci con dei sogni dentro. Baci che vengono dalla vita, non dalla morte». - Il postino suona sempre due volte, James M. Cain

An underrated downside to refusing to engage with discomforting/undidactic fiction is that you miss out on SO MUCH. A huge chunk of the noir genre puts you in the shoes of someone violating breaking the law and/or grappling with an amoral legal system. There are few if any admirable people in the work of James M. Cain, but his bibliography has no shortage of absolutely compelling protagonists.
Great stories aren't necessarily feel-good ones.
I love watching kids shows etc but I do think there is a certain risk in never engaging with stories that don’t have a clear moral or “unrootable” characters. just on an artistic level sometimes you need to read or watch something that makes you confused and conflicted. for your soul
