in 1970, a performance of edward ii, starring ian mckellen as king edward and james laurenson as gaveston, was broadcast on the bbc. this performance made history as it showed the first ever kiss between two men on british television.
ID: ian mckellen and james laurenson are on stage dressed in royal costumes. ian mckellen says: "kind words and mutual talk makes our grief greater: therefore, with dumb embracement, let us part." the two kiss. as they pull apart, ian mckellen says "stay, gaveston. i cannot leave thee thus."

📽️ Matilda: The Musical (2022)
This is going to be an unpopular opinion, so I’m fully ready to be blasted like I was for my first Dunkirk review. I did not like this at all. I thought the songs were all annoying, and it went on long enough that it got boring. I’ve read the book; and, while this adaptation did stick with the story line, there were a lot of unnecessary additions. I’m a fan of musical theater, but I was not a fan of this musical. I know the musical version has existed for almost 15 years now, but I just don’t feel that the Matilda story lends itself to being a musical, especially with the songs written the way they are. Plus, a huge part of the story is how horrible her parents are, and I feel that was glossed over a bit, something that really ruins one of the main story lines. Oh, and Miss Trunchbull was not nearly mean or scary enough. Anyway, I was not a fan of this and will definitely not be watching it again.
Sex/nudity: 0/10
Language: 1/10 (“hell”)
Violence: 2/10 (a lot of violence mentioned and some shown but nothing super horrific)
Overall rating: 3/10

“Space: 1999” 35 (1976)

Definitely one of the very best Year Two episodes. It works because we become invested in the two guest characters and we honestly don't know what will happen to them.
Alan is MIA, Maya barely appears and John has a handful of short scenes (from an Eagle out in space). This one is entirely carried by Helena and Tony. And Dr. Ben Vincent has a lot of character-driven dialogue.
There are no aliens of any kind. Instead, we get a mysterious space phenomenon causing heat and destruction on Alpha. All that, and the completely lack of any explanations for it at the end, make this feel like a Year One episode and it's all the better for it.
The guest stars are terrific: James Laurenson and Pamela Stephenson. His character is having very specific visions of catastrophe, and the script has a sort of religion/faith vs. science/logic thing going on. The climax, with Alpha being bombarded, is very exciting.
9/10
