What Are the Homes Like in Jamaica? A Journey from the UK to Island Elegance
When I was a young boy growing up in the UK in the 1980s and 1990s, the houses around me were uniform and uninspired. Rows of terraced houses stretched endlessly, their brick facades blending into one another like a monotonous sea of grey. The architecture was functional, designed to provide shelter rather than to inspire wonder or joy. It wasn’t until I first set foot in Jamaica that I truly…

eren x reader / eren x black!reader / eren x carribean!reader
✭ drabbles of eren and his pretty beach bound girl. ( ps, sorry for taking so long anon. side note, everyone and their mama is jamaican, so the reader in this is not jamaican. trinidad and tobago i’m side eyeing you too. sorry not sorry, we need representation for other islands. )
eren absolutely gets himself into trouble just to hear you yell at him. he thinks it’s so fucking sexy, especially when you notice his hard-on and yell more.
the way your accent tends to come out when you’re angry just goes straight to his dick, mans can’t help it.
“woooii- ya make mi blood clot, eren! round with ya friends, can’t give nuh call or send mi text den tiptoe in the damn house like a ninja. ya can’t answer when me fa call ya name?”
he’s between your legs and you’re scolding him, finger pushing his big ass head around. he’s been out for a few hours later then he said he would, then came and snuck up behind you in the bathroom as you’re doing your hair.
yet all he can do after he’s put you on the counter is smirk down at you. he grabs you finger, guiding it down his chest and silences your complaints with a kiss.
it’s when he leads your hands low enough that you break it.
“jesus eren. you’re fucking nasty,” you shame, your american tongue coming back.
“no keep yelling,”
“ya fa be ‘shamed a-yaself.” you scold, trying to hide your smirk, brushing your fingers over his buldge.
eren takes u to the most luxurious parts of your home possible, he knows how much you love your families native country.
in college, he works his ass off to take you home atleast twice a year at fancy resorts or luxurious airbnbs.
as he gets older and more successful, the trips get better and more frequent.
your 10 year anniversary gift? him buying you a home at home.
eren finds the way you eat fruit with no fork adorable. he loves your brown doe eyes staring up at him accompanied by your sticky mouth.
“what?” you question, looking up at eren from your beach chair, mango in hand.
“nothing baby,” he smiles, bending down to grab a wet-wipe from your picnic blanket, “you just devour fruit like a bulldozer.”
“do not.” you protest, and despite him wiping your hands down his gaze is still set straight on you. there’s a slight breeze passing by, and his green eyes peer at you though his waving hair.
“stop looking at me like i’m that mango.”
“am not!” you protest again as he moved onto wiping your mouth and cheeks, knowing damn well you’re about to jump his bones in the hotel room later.
he loves your mango, grapefruit and pineapple fed pussy, he swears it makes you taste sweeter. before you, eren never came home craving his girl’s pussy like a meal. but yours? you have to claw him off you.
this time, eren’s taken you to jamaica, one of the carribean islands you actually haven’t been to yet. he pulls the rented jeep into the drive way of your two’s airbnb, coming home to feed you the breakfast you sent him to the market for.
“hi ren baby. did you get it?” your brown eyes and coily hair peek up at him from your book from your place on the couch when he turns the corner into the living room.
“mhm.” he nods simply, holding up the brown paper bag in his hand to show you.
but he’s craving a different meal.
“ohhh good! the utensils and plates here are so so cute, i think the host even left wine. is it too early to day drin- baby?” you question, distracted at the way he pulls at your hips and cuts you off with an absolutely nasty kiss.
“i need to be fed too,” eren says, briefly breaking the kiss, his hands sneaking into your tiny panties and toying with your clit. you know he isn’t talking about his own meal in the bag.
two of his fingers slide up and down your hole, collecting your slick, then slowly penetrates your tight ring.
“mmmm,” you let out a cat-like purr as his fingers slide deeper into you, moving up and down, riding, and he knows the perfect balance of thrusting to please you.
he’s swallowing all of your pretty moans, tasting the chapstick off your lips as he’s attacking at your lips, then your jaw. your neck. your collarbones. until he’s laid you down and pulling your cropped cami top up to get at the valley between your breasts.
he’s humming out appreciatively against your skin, tasting the soft reminants of your shea butter from a shower the night before. he travels, just a little, but cruelly ignores your hard nipples pointing up for him. he disconnects from your breasts with a squelch, sitting back up to pull off your panties and lay down beneath you.
“what’s gotten into you, rennie?” you ask, a little breathless between movements.
“nothing sweetheart. now sit,” he demands, pulling you up onto his chest.
“wait. let me touch you?” he doesn’t object and you go straight for it, sliding down his sweats and eagerly pulling out his coated dick. there’s two beads of pre still going down his shaft when you lean down to lick and start to suck on him, he slaps your ass.
“i’m eating. if you’re going to touch and distract me, hands only.”
and you do. scooting back more so your cunt hovers over his face, wrapping your fist around his cock. he pulls you down and begins licking at your cunt.
eren shakes his head lightly, pressing his tongue into you and passing over your clit a few times so deliciously, the downright nasty sounds of him slurping at your cunt making you clench around nothing. while his tongue travels back up to your leaking hole, he closes his lips around your cunt too, sucking.
“s-so good baby,” you praise, then get caught off guard by him prodding his tongue at your entrance and penetrating you.
and eren’s tounge is thick. not absolutely abnormal, but definitely matches his 6’4 height.
the repeated feeling of his muscle penetrating you sends you spiraling, tightening your grip around his shaft trying to ground yourself. with every in and out motion, more of your slick is pushed out and down his throat.
eren is addicted to feeling you come on his tongue instead of his dick, something about you creaming on his face? does it for him.
you’d think it’d be the way your hands swivel around his shaft that’d send him spurting sticky while liquid up around your hands but instead, it’s the way your hips jerk in their up and down motion while you cum, your ass jiggling on his face.
“ima.. ima cum eren.. i’m cummin’” hence the stuttering of your hips and your breathy, choked out moans. he wraps his arms around your thighs, burying his face further into your cunt.
“yeah princess?” he asks rhetorically, softly slapping at and jiggling your thighs, “do it baby. keep cumming on my face.”
“hah- fuckkk rennn..” you’re mewling, riding out your orgasm on your mans unfaltering tongue, drinking in the vibration of his words against your cunt.
“you’re such a sweet girl. my sweet girl.” he says, gazing up at you as you’ve now scooted down and are sitting on his chest. he doesn’t protest at way you leak down his abs.
“am i?” you return a dopey smile, flopping over ontop of him.
one of his arms wrap around you waist, rubbing soothingly at your bare ass while the other softly rubs at your scalp.
he doesn’t reply, instead you’re left to listen to the beat of his heart and rise and fall of his chest as you two share radiated body heat. you’re close enough to the ocean to hear the waves in the distance.
“.. okay, now can we eat?” you ask, breaking the silence, gazing at the forgotten food on the side table.
eren loves traveling with you, you grabbing him by the hand and leading the way. he’ll follow you anywhere.
“it’s a type of spanish lime but TECHNICALLY, but it’s more like a grape. it’s called kenip.” you inform him, tapping his shoulder indicating he could put you down now.
he puts you back down on the sand, having previously had you on his shoulder so you could pick the fruit from a tree growing on the beach.
he just stares up at you with the biggest eyes of admiration as you peel and hand feed him a handful.
“you like it?”
“yeah. i like you.”
“the stupid limes that are actually grapes, big head.”
“those too.”
he does like you. he loves you. his little caribbean girlfriend who’s smile glows the brightest when she’s taken to the beach. who cries in disdain when he gets fruit from the supermarket and not the farmers market. who’s vibrant dark skin, which he’s in awe by, enhances in the summer.
he loves you.

I know you've all been waiting eagerly for it, and here it is: the first Wikipedia poll of the new year! Links and summaries below the cut as always.
On 29 September 1940, a mid-air collision occurred over Brocklesby, New South Wales, Australia. The accident was unusual in that the aircraft involved, two Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Avro Ansons of No. 2 Service Flying Training School, remained locked together after colliding, and then landed safely.
On 11 May 1812, at about 5:15 pm, Spencer Perceval, the prime minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, was shot dead in the lobby of the House of Commons by John Bellingham, a Liverpool merchant with a grievance against the government. Bellingham was detained; four days after the murder, he was tried, convicted and sentenced to death.
The Dorset Ooser (/ˈoʊsər/) is a wooden head that featured in the 19th-century folk culture of Melbury Osmond, a village in the southwestern English county of Dorset. The head was hollow, thus perhaps serving as a mask, and included a humanoid face with horns, a beard, and a hinged jaw which allowed the mouth to open and close.
The Ediacaran (/ˌiːdiˈækərən/; formerly Vendian) biota is a taxonomic period classification that consists of all life forms that were present on Earth during the Ediacaran Period (c. 635–538.8 Mya). These were enigmatic tubular and frond-shaped, mostly sessile, organisms. Trace fossils of these organisms have been found worldwide, and represent the earliest known complex multicellular organisms.
John Rykener, also known as Eleanor, was a 14th-century sex worker arrested in December 1394 for performing a sex act with John Britby, a man who was a former chaplain of the St Margaret Pattens church, in London's Cheapside while wearing female attire. Although historians tentatively link Rykener, who was male, to a prisoner of the same name, the only known facts of the sex worker's life come from an interrogation made by the mayor of London.
Norwich Market (also known as Norwich Provision Market) is an outdoor market consisting of around 200 stalls in central Norwich, England. Founded in the latter part of the 11th century to supply Norman merchants and settlers moving to the area following the Norman conquest of England, it replaced an earlier market a short distance away. It has been in operation on the present site for over 900 years.
Olive Elaine Morris (26 June 1952 – 12 July 1979) was a Jamaican-born British-based community leader and activist in the feminist, black nationalist, and squatters' rights campaigns of the 1970s. At the age of 17, she claimed she was assaulted by Metropolitan Police officers following an incident involving a Nigerian diplomat in Brixton, South London. She joined the British Black Panthers, becoming a Marxist–Leninist communist and a radical feminist.
Paul Palaiologos Tagaris (Greek: Παῦλος Παλαιολόγος Τάγαρις, c. 1320/1340 – after 1394) was a Byzantine Greek monk and impostor. A scion of the Tagaris family, Paul also claimed a somewhat dubious connection with the Palaiologos dynasty that ruled the Byzantine Empire at the time. He fled his marriage as a teenager and became a monk, but soon his fraudulent practices embroiled him in scandal.
The Royal baccarat scandal, also known as the Tranby Croft affair, was a British gambling scandal of the late 19th century involving the Prince of Wales—the future King Edward VII. The scandal started during a house party in September 1890, when Sir William Gordon-Cumming, a lieutenant colonel in the Scots Guards, was accused of cheating at baccarat.
In a protracted conflict during the Spanish colonization of the Americas, Spanish colonisers gradually incorporated the territory that became the modern country of Guatemala into the colonial Viceroyalty of New Spain. Before the conquest, this territory contained a number of competing Mesoamerican kingdoms, the majority of which were Maya.

Chapter 4
The rumble
You and dom go to the market to get surf boards, remembering the few you saw when you both first went all around the market on your first day. You are looking at jewels when you hear a voice next to you "You're one of the only few women I've seen pull off the short hair" you turn to see a man who had to have been in his early 40's with a basket of wood carvings of animals, people, and many other things "Thank you my name's Y/N" he smiles as you shake each other's hands "Ajani pleased to meet you deary" you notice the distinct and clear Jamaican accent in his voice when you feel something in your hand, looking down to see a small wood craving of a man and woman smiling until you look closer realizing it was you and dom which makes you look up in surprise and giggle happily as he laughs and shares a hug with you as he walks away with a dog following behind. You find dom who carries the boards as you walk to the beach, waving to a man working on his roof as you tell dom about ajani and showing him the wood carving he gave you which makes him smile in awe as he holds it before you run back in the house and put it on the nightstand before running back out and getting to the beach, the two of you carry your boards out until the water hit below your knees quickly getting and laying on your boards, paddling out then standing shakily that made you both fall off a few times during your first few tries until a local who watched your last turn gave you tips and soon you were both surfing under a wave before being washed up and high five as you walk before turning around and paddling out again, you suddenly felt a churning and unbearable feeling in the pit of your stomach. You were walking to put your board down and dry off as dom was doing when all of a sudden there's a loud noise that rips through the air and everywhere starts to rumble and shake uncontrollably knocking you both off your feet hearing screams as the two of you crawl to each other and run to get indoors realizing it was an earthquake, as the two of you get a few feet away from the house you see the man on the roof try to stay atop but falls and lands on the ground with his hammer in his neck which makes you scream and dom's senses heightened as he grabs you and you both see the house partially destroyed making you both more aware and the grip on each other tighten as you both look around for better shelter when it stops which leaves both of you confused and nervous until you suddenly saw a woman run from the beach looking very terrified not knowing what would be next as more people run and the next thing you see is the wall of water heading for the two of you. You both start running top speed while having a death grip on each other's arms hearing the crashing of buildings, the screams and cries of people before getting swept in the water, and the loud roar of the water rushing throughout the island, you both run even more when you see people in trees and on top of roofs of buildings that were still standing after the earthquake being the last thing you saw before the water crashes into the two of you and sweeps you underwater.

African Head Charge — A Trip To Bolatanga (On U Sound)
A Trip To Bolgatanga by African Head Charge
The name of African Head Charge’s first album, My Life in a Hole in the Ground, was both a poke at David Byrne and Brian Eno’s My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, and an acknowledgement of their relative circumstances. The two endeavors actually had this much in common; both were investigating combinations of spiritually charged, sampled sounds and newly recorded grooves nourished by the African diaspora. However, 42 years later, only one is a going concern. A Trip to Bolatanga is the first new work in 12 years by chanter and hand drummer Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah, producer Adrian Sherwood and a host of newer and older associates.
The album’s title references a town in Ghana, which has been the Jamaican-born Noah’s base country since the mid-1990s, which gotten some attention for another musical phenomenon. In 2016, Sahel Sounds and Makkum Records collaborated on the release of an album called This Is Kologo Power! Kologo is a variant of West African music named after the two-stringed lute that is used to play it, and one of that compilation’s standout artists, King Ayisoba, guests on A Trip To Bolatanga. In fact, his insistently plucked strings and gravely cackle kick the record off with a bit of English-language advice: “A bad attitude is like a flat tire. You can’t go anywhere until you change it.” Near the record’s end, he dispenses more advice. “Never regret a day in your life. Good days give you happiness, bad days give you experience, worst days give you a lesson, and best days give you memories.” It’s fair to say that African Head Charge has cornered the market on African-informed, polyrhythmic self-help jams.
Sherwood and Noah have always been a bit of a juggling act, tossing ancient and contemporary beats into the air and making them spin in time with each other. Some prior attempts have not aged that well, but if you evaluate music in terms of its moment, A Trip to Bolatanga is on strong ground. The combination of nyabinghi hand drumming, booming kick drum, funky guitar, house-ready piano accents and bobbing clarinet on “Accra Electronica” sounding simultaneously of this time and timeless, and there’s no denying the beats’ substantial bang, which both demands and rewards volume deals.

i actually hate cooking lol but i love food! i live in socal so there’s so much good food here. my wife is punjabi so we eat a lot of chana & dal as staples, which are easy to make a big pot of & have all week for lunch. i just got a grill for our house so we had filet mignon the other night as a treat which was great. i’m from new mexico so i live & die by green chile. an easy thing i like to do is just buy a rotisserie chicken & eat it in various easy meals all week (quinoa bowls, taco bowls etc). we like to order ramen & greek food often? big fan of wings when i go to the brewery, just had a jamaican jerk dry rub that slapped. but yah usually we’ll make some bigger dishes on monday & tuesday so we have lunches. we plan meals on saturday & then i get groceries, lots of what’s in season, & we go to the farmers market every week. we live p close to this v highly rated peruvian sushi place which is like some of the best food i’ve ever had so that’s my fav currently
#i just write abt food bc it’s a way to express intuitive pleasure#& engage in listening to what the body wants & enjoys#not bc i like cooking lmao

The debate about race following the killing of George Floyd has reverberated across the Atlantic Ocean, spurring the tourism minister of Ghana to appeal to its diaspora, including in the U.S., to "leave where you are not wanted," and return home.
A ceremony marking the death of Floyd was held at the W. E. B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture in the capital Accra during which Barbara Oteng Gyasi made the plea that her country is open to those fleeing racial tensions.
"We gather in solidarity with brothers and sisters to change the status quo. Racism must end. We pray and hope that George Floyd's death will not be in vain but will bring an end to prejudice and racial discrimination across the world," Oteng Gyasi said, according to Ghana Web.
"We continue to open our arms and invite all our brothers and sisters home. Ghana is your home. Africa is your home. We have our arms wide open ready to welcome you home.
"Please take advantage, come home, build a life in Ghana. You do not have to stay where you are not wanted forever, you have a choice and Africa is waiting for you," Oteng Gyasi added after a wreath-laying ceremony last Friday.
The economy got a boost as people flocked to the country for a number of cultural events, such as the music festival AfroChella, to mark the anniversary.
The government in Accra is building on that momentum with another initiative called "Beyond the Return" which aims to encourage investment in Ghana.
"We feel that given the wealth that African Americans and black Americans have, given that spending power, travel budgets of blacks in America, we felt that it's about time that we start that conversation that, instead of moving to any other destination, come back to where you came from," Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of Ghana's Tourism Authority, told NBC this week.
There was a sartorial and cultural connection between the heart of U.S. politics and Ghana this week as Democrats proposed legislation to reform the police in the wake of Floyd's death.
Lawmakers including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wore scarves made from a cloth of colorful geometric Ghanaian designs called kente which had been given to them by the Congressional Black Caucus.
"The significance of the kente cloth is our African heritage and for those of you without that heritage who are acting in solidarity," Karen Bass, chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said, according to the BBC.
Meanwhile, the appeal by the Ghanaian government to its diaspora from across the Atlantic Ocean is likely to get stronger.
Lakeshia Marie Ford started coming to Ghana in 2008 as part of a study abroad program through her alma mater, Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She has lived in the country permanently for five years and is founder of the Accra-based public relations company Ford Communications.
"In terms of identity, I felt freer in Ghana. As a Jamaican-American woman, there were so many cultural similarities," she told Newsweek.
"Having that foundation as a 20-something year old allowed me to pay attention to the environment and look at how I can add value to the space, as opposed to fighting racism, as I would probably be doing in the United States."
Attracted by a fast-pace emerging economy, she said that people can bring to life dynamic ideas a lot quicker in Ghana than in the United States.
"An emerging market needs a range of skills," she said, which meant, "you can find a space for yourself regardless of the level you are at, and still make an impact."
"Africa has always been the future, and our predecessors know that well. For my generation, if we in fact answer the call to explore achieving our dreams in Africa, specifically Ghana in this case, Ghana will experience a brain gain.
"Having black people in the diaspora come to Ghana is the dream. I think it's important to also develop structures and capacities in the country to support the call.
"That effort could also include socially sensitizing Ghanaian citizens so that everyone is radically focused on the bigger picture of the commonality between Africans and African diasporans and the effort to achieve true sustainable socio-economic development for Ghana and black people who would be new residents," Ford told Newsweek.

Before you embark to West Africa looking for a new home, a lil advice:
study the area you are interested in returning to
do your dna testing with a dna test agency that has African Aliels such as https://africanancestry.com/
SAVE SAVE SAVE - money shrinks when you travel so take as much as you can because you don't know what may catch your eye
Make a few friends in your chosen destination and learn more about the local culture so that when you visit you're more aware of your surroundings and possibilities - this helps you to not be a victim. travel scams in Africa do happen just like everywhere else.
Check all the Visa Requirements, make sure your passport is valid for at least a year post travel to prevent any problems with visas.
Check with your local Travel Health Clinic to be sure of what meds you may need before departure, as well as what you may need to take with you in case of need. Lariam is a common med that is used for Malaria and usually taken as it's more difficult to get once you are there
Take a copy of all your travel documents, on your phone; as well as photocopies; and email a safety copy in the event of need

Tips for Successful Investing in Rental Properties in Jamaica
As the real estate market in Jamaica continues to thrive, with homes for sale in Jamaica and Jamaica houses attracting investors from near and far, the opportunity to build wealth through rental property investments has never been more enticing. Whether you're eyeing a cozy studio apartment or a sprawling beachfront villa in one of Jamaica's vibrant communities, investing in Jamaica real estate can be a savvy financial move - but it's not without its challenges.
At 21st Century Real Estate, we've helped countless clients navigate the ins and outs of becoming successful Jamaica real estate investors. From finding the perfect Silverbrook Apartments or homes for sale in Jamaica to maximizing your rental income and managing tenants, we've compiled our top tips to set you up for success in the world of Jamaican rental property investment.
Location, Location, Location
When it comes to rental property investments, location is arguably the most important factor to consider. Look for neighborhoods in high-demand areas with low vacancy rates, good schools, and easy access to amenities like shopping, dining, and public transportation. In Jamaica, popular areas like Montego Bay, Negril, and Ocho Rios are always in high demand for both long-term rentals and short-term vacation rentals.
Do Your Due Diligence
Before purchasing any Jamaica houses or homes for sale in Jamaica, it's crucial to do your homework. Research average rental rates, occupancy rates, and operating expenses for similar properties in the area. Hiring a professional inspector to assess the condition of the home can also help you avoid costly surprises down the line. Don't forget to factor in additional costs like property management fees, insurance, and potential renovations or upgrades.
Crunch the Numbers
Once you've identified a promising property, it's time to run the numbers. Determine your projected rental income, operating expenses, and expected cash flow to ensure the investment aligns with your financial goals. A good rule of thumb is to aim for a property that will generate a monthly cash flow of at least 1% of the purchase price. This will help you cover your mortgage, taxes, insurance, and other costs while leaving room for a healthy profit.
Leverage Your Equity
If you already own a home in Jamaica or elsewhere, you may be able to use the equity in that property to finance the purchase of a rental property. This can be an effective way to grow your real estate portfolio without having to come up with a large down payment upfront. Just be sure to carefully consider the risks and speak with a financial advisor before tapping into your home equity.
Build a Reliable Team
Successful rental property investors know that they can't do it all alone. Surround yourself with a team of trusted professionals, including a knowledgeable real estate agent, a skilled property manager, a reliable contractor, and a savvy accountant. These experts can help you navigate the complexities of property acquisition, tenant management, maintenance, and tax planning.
Embrace Technology
In the 21st century, technology has revolutionized the way we manage rental properties. From online listing platforms and virtual tours to automated rent collection and maintenance tracking, there are countless tools and apps that can streamline your operations and save you time and money. Embrace these technological advancements to maximize the efficiency of your rental properties.
Screen Tenants Thoroughly
One of the most critical aspects of rental property investment is finding and retaining high-quality tenants. Take the time to thoroughly screen applicants, checking their credit history, employment status, and references. This can help you avoid the headaches of late payments, property damage, and evictions down the line.
Maintain the Property
Keeping your rental properties in top condition is essential for attracting and retaining tenants, as well as preserving the value of your investment. Develop a proactive maintenance plan and budget for regular upgrades and repairs. By staying on top of property maintenance, you can minimize costly issues and ensure your tenants are happy and comfortable.
Be Prepared for the Unexpected
Even the most carefully planned rental property investments can encounter unexpected challenges, from natural disasters to tenant disputes. Build up a financial cushion to cover vacancies, repairs, and other unforeseen expenses. Additionally, ensure you have the appropriate insurance coverage in place to protect your investment and your tenants.
Stay Informed and Adaptable
The real estate market is constantly evolving, and successful rental property investors know how to adapt to changing conditions. Stay informed about market trends, new legislation, and industry best practices. Be willing to adjust your strategies as needed to maximize your returns and ensure the long-term viability of your investments.
By following these tips and leveraging the expertise of the 21st Century Real Estate team, you can navigate the world of rental property investment in Jamaica with confidence. Why Now is the Perfect Time to Buy Property in Jamaica
Jamaica with beautiful sceneries, ethnic people, and warm weather was always a desired place for many people. However, beyond its appeal as a tourist destination, what is revealed here is that real estate investments in this stunning island cannot be purchased at a better time than now. Below are several strong arguments why everyone should consider homes in Jamaica for sale at the moment.
1. Growing Real Estate Market
Jamaica real estate industry remains stable for the changes in the global real estate markets. As the need for properties to live in, work in, and invest in rises especially in populous tourism focused regions of Montego Bay, Negril, and Ocho Rios, the capital gains would likely be quite stellar. The current generation of investors is also beginning to consider Jamaica as a long-term investment opportunity; this, therefore, is the right time to make an investment in a property.
2. Favorable Exchange Rates
To potential foreign purchasers, current exchange rates are advantageous, hence the best time to invest in Jamaican real estate. It is estimated that many overseas investors in places like the United States and Canada are experiencing the novelty of being able to take their dollars and effectively buy far more. This can result in cost savings proportional to market price trends, where this market has long suffered inflated prices.
3. Attractive Financing Options
The Jamaican government and the local financial institutions are now trying to kick-start the stagnant economy by offering one form of incentive package or the other to of the property purchase. Interest rates remain relatively low; and favourable financing packages can be negotiated for by both residents and foreigners. Also, with mortgage products specifically marketed to cater for international buyers the entry hurdles have never been lower.
4. Thriving Tourism Sector
Tourism in Jamaica is still, very prosperous to this date the island continues to welcome millions of tourists annually. The flow of tourists increases significantly, which explains the high demand for rent thus making it a good investment sector. Having a piece of property on the beach, with room for modifications that allow it to operate as a vacation rental, is far more than a source of passive income; it means access to your PERSONAL paradise on earth. Under current conditions favourable for tourism development, the market for rentals is projected to expand further.
5. Culture and Economy
Politically and economically Jamaica has made a lot of progress over the recent past. Today the government is putting considerable efforts to improve the business climate and increase confidence of investors. This stability complemented by the historic cultural and natural resources of this island make Jamaica an attractive destination for property investment. There is a kind of solidarity; the Jamaicans are friendly people and this fact contributes to the exotic appeal of the island.
6. Lifestyle Appeal
Housing for Investments in Jamaica goes beyond the financial and investment aspect but its lifestyle as well. Overall, the island is amazing since it incorporates the two best things: pleasure and culture. Peaceful beach fronts, explore mountain ranges, and sumptuous food amongothers are what Jamaica has to offer when it comes to quality lifestyle. Living or owning property here affords you an exclusive piece of the sunshine state where you can retire to, whether as vacation home or abode.
Conclusion:
So it is true, the current is the best time to invest in Jamaican real estate with a growing market, a favorable exchange rate, various attractive financing opportunities, and a booming tourism industry, and the island’s stability has been upgraded. Whether you seek a Caribbean vacation home or an investment property or simply a residence in the sun, Caribbean Homes presents an opportunity for investment with a fun way of life. There will never be a better opportunity to make your dream of owning a home in this lively island come through!

A Cross-Cultural Love Story in 19th Century Jamaica: Ecke and Iris
Have you ever gained a chance to explore cross-cultural love through the pages of historical fiction? Ideally, through Annie Coyle’s novel, “A Heavenly River of Oxtail Gravy,” the author vividly depicts the love that defies cultural boundaries when Ecke, a German carpenter, falls in the comforting voice of Iris. The author, with her creativity, has shown how, in the 1835 German Seaford Town Settlement in Westmoreland, Jamaica, the story follows Ecke Fredrick Baum and Iris Allen, a romance that grows amid personal grief and societal expectations.
Legacy and Loss
Ecke Baum was born into the legacy of German immigrants who settled in Jamaica, farming yams and timber while embracing their new homeland. Trained as a carpenter by his father, Fredrick, Ecke inherited their house when Fredrick passed away. Shortly after, Ecke’s world was shaken again when his young German wife died from a fever, leaving him a widower at just seventeen.
Grieving and alone, Ecke sought solace in the lively road market, where he found a welcome distraction in the routine of daily life. It was here, amid the noise and color, that he first noticed Iris Allen—a young Jamaican girl who worked as a roadside barista. Iris, with her angelic voice and warm presence, quickly became a quiet comfort in Ecke’s life.
A Serendipitous Connection
Ecke’s encounters with Iris grew more frequent, drawn by her singing of the Jamaican folk song “Hill and Gully Rider.” Her voice carried the spirit of the island, a melody that resonated deeply with Ecke’s emotions. He began asking her to teach him the song, and in these shared moments, their connection blossomed. For Ecke, Iris represented a chance to find joy again; for Iris, Ecke was a steady presence, respectful and kind in a way she hadn’t often encountered.
Their friendship soon deepened into something more, transcending the racial and cultural lines that separated them. Their relationship was unconventional for the time—a German carpenter and a Jamaican barista, each with their own struggles and histories. Yet, their bond was undeniable, founded on mutual respect and an unspoken understanding that neither had expected to find.
Love Against the Odds
Ecke and Iris’s love story is not just a romance but a testament to resilience and the human need for connection. Both had suffered losses—Ecke, the deaths of his father and wife, and Iris, the hardships of a young girl working to survive. Together, they began to heal, finding solace in each other’s presence and creating a life that blended their distinct worlds.
In 1894, Ecke and Iris welcomed their first child, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Ecke was nineteen, and Iris was just sixteen. Their union represented more than just a marriage; it symbolized the merging of German and Jamaican cultures, an embodiment of the island’s rich, diverse history. Their young family became a living example of love’s power to overcome adversity, prejudice, and societal norms.
A Message of Hope and Love
Ecke and Iris’s story encapsulates the themes of A Heavenly River of Oxtail Gravy: love, resilience, and the courage to embrace what is unfamiliar. Coyle’s portrayal of their relationship offers readers a nuanced look at how love can break down barriers, fostering understanding and compassion between people from vastly different backgrounds.
Through the lens of Ecke and Iris, Coyle explores the complexities of identity, belonging, and the transformative power of love. Their journey serves as a powerful reminder that love, when it is meant to be, will find a way—regardless of the obstacles in its path. All in all, in “A Heavenly River of Oxtail Gravy,” the author has crafted a touching narrative that celebrates the strength and beauty of human connection and encourages readers to embrace love in all its forms.

My Story: Chapter Eight
Excerpt
1975 to 1979
A couple years before my freshman year, the state of Illinois started busing students from Markham to a high school in a nearby, more affluent, white suburb. My first year in high school, I was one of those students.
I made some new friends that year, but I only saw a few after school. They just lived too far away and winters are damn cold in Illinois. During the warmer months, I would make long walks to some close friends' houses. It wasn’t intentional, but starting in high school I began to hang around people that were wealthier than me. We just had more in common. Almost all of them read. You’d walk down the hallway during class change and see many of them had a book in addition to ones covering subject matters. Everything girl I dated in high school, read. Don’t get me wrong, while many of them read, some of these white kids were really fucked up. They were worse than the kids in Markham, as far as drug use went. My high school was the Midwest equivalent of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. A large percentage of the student body, and even some of the teachers, partied. I would start my drinking and drug experimentation during my sophomore year.
In my second year of high school we moved to the suburb where my school was located. My parents bought a house in the all-white subdivision that was located across the street from it. This is when I started to party. I was much closer to many of my friends.
Before I took any drug or even smoked pot, I read about them. (Hell, at one point I had a PDR.) No one put a gun to my head, but most of the literature was positive. Leary and his cohorts were talking about the mystical value of taking various hallucinogens. I read Castaneda, so I had to try peyote and mushrooms. NORML was lobbying for the decriminalization of cocaine. (This was before Richard Pryor’s free-basing and emoliation period.) There was a lot of nose candy in those days. It was the disco era. So…
I got a fake ID at 14, so I starting going out to night clubs and bars. I had a 16 year old girlfriend that looked like a young Cher, without the nose. Bouncers in the Chicago area were letting her, as well as a lot of other pretty under aged girls, into bars and nightclubs all the time. It’s Chicago.
Through friends of friends, I met even wealthier people that went to neighboring high schools. Some of these kids were interesting. They all drank, some of them rather heavily, and many smoked pot and took drugs.
In Illinois, we have these huge parks called Forest Preserves. During the warmer months we’d get together, open our trunks, jam out and get wasted. One particularly park was literally an open air drug market. You’d drive through and people would yell out what they had. “Four fingers lids of Jamaican”. “Hits of Mr Natural for two fifty”. Practically, everything under the sun was there except heroin. People I hung around with just didn’t do it. I knew no speed freaks either.
I kept journals all throughout high school. I made a point of writing while under the influence of various drugs that I tried. Unfortunately, those writings were soon lost after I left my parent’s house. They had some really trippy observations.
I tried a lot of different things in the last three years of high school. I even tried PCP. Don’t do this at home kiddies. It makes you feel like a robot in slow motion. It fucked up some people I know. A kid at my high school was on that shit, took an ax to both his parents and burned the house down. One of my siblings damn near died from it. Apparently, he saw God and became a born-again Christian after that.
With the exception of myself, everyone in the immediate family soon followed his lead and starting attending a Baptist church. No one in my household, as far as I know, had stepped into a place of worship for about nine years. I went a few times, but just didn’t like it. One particular preacher I immediately took a dislike to. Years later, he would skip town after stealing a bunch of the church’s money. Like I stated earlier, I never converted. I married a Catholic girl. (Vague references to that will follow in a later chapter.)
I got a little cosmic in high school.
e.g.
Aware is the man that hears
The silent song of fear
The melody of madness
The ballad of distress
The symphony of cynics
With whom I lay rest
The medley of ethereal carnage
The unconquerable ridge
I forgot; repressed most of the bad that happened to me at an early age and actually became a little naïve. The remnants of the whole hippie vibe were strong at my high school. Bell bottom Levis and concert shirts was the uniform for some students. (I would become one of those.) Between the philosophic and religious texts I had read, some of the substances that I had tried, and the zeitgeist of the times, I had this Pollyanna version of reality.
