Me trying to figure out who Jamie's adopted parents should be before writing them into the story...

Of course I could just go with Jamie's canon mom and make up an original character for the dad.

But since my Httyd AU is like a fix-it of sorts, I wanted to have Astrid's parent have more role in the story. That's why I made them Merida and McGuffin....

... And in future oneshot fics, I want to write them interacting with Jamie's parents. So, I think it would be interesting to have them interact with existing Disney/Dreamwork characters, too.

In addition, I would also let Astrid' grandparents still be alive for the early parts of the Httyd AU. So, Elinor and Fergus could meet who could be their future in law, even if they won't live long enough to see it happen.

That said, Merida's brothers would be there, too. Much older, of course.

I would give them personalities too beyond this...

Like, they're all equally mischievous but in an attempt to make them more rounded...

Hamish (oldest) - Usually takes the lead in the pranks they pulled when they were young. As they got older, he would try to be more responsible but is easily convinced to pull something once Harris or Hubert wanted to drag him somewhere. His defense would either be "It was their idea" even if the plan was made by him whenever they got somewhere, or "Someone had to watch out for the two" even if he was just as guilty in any havoc they raised. Harris (middle) - Laziest when it came to the chores Elinor would assign them as the three were growing up along with Merida. He would often be the first to suggest sneaking off, dragging the other two with him. He totally knows his brother (Hamish) uses them as scapegoats and he's totally fine with that as long as he got to escape chores for a couple of hours. Sometimes, he intentionally gets himself injured so he could skip out on punishment chores after. Hubert (youngest) - Most sensitive one in the sense of pain, but he doesn't like to be left behind and is just as pull of mischief. He's also competitive like his older sister, so even if a prank/plan was Hamish's idea, he'd usually be eager to put it in motion.

I like to pretend that they named the order of the twins age by alphabetically so...

Anyway, I digressed long enough.

In the matter of Jamie's parents...

I was thinking Rapunzel and Eugene at first...

But I want them to be in the same generation of Jim and Dimitri haha.

Right now, playing around with the idea of Taran and Eilonwy.

Years later...

Hiccup: 😁 Aha!

Jack: Whatever, so you're taller... I'm still older.

Overland-Haddock Family Plotbunnies

Jim was adopted when he was barely two years old.

Sarah died of a sickness.

Leland abandoned the family even before her death. Jim was left in an orphanage after the funeral.

Hiccup, Jack, Toothless, and Luna were doing some island hopping when they found a village under attack by some ruffians. So they swooped it and liberated the town.

That's where they found out about Jim, being the only baby in the orphanage.

Jack remembered how his parents died when he was young and Aster taking him in. So he urges Hiccup to adopt the baby.

This was around the same time Dimitri just turned three, and when Elsa and Anna were born (twins here).

Jim gets into pulling pranks like his papa, but has a thing for inventing stuff like his dad.

Toothless is severely protective of Jim just as he's protective of his and Luna's own little Furies.

Aster and Gobber now fights over who's the best "uncle" since Jamie already got the title of "godfather" and, well, Astrid as "godmother"

Jack tells him stories before he sleeps. Jim's favorite was about the island with hidden treasure.

Hiccup piques his interest on dragons, but somehow as he grew older, Jim was more interested in making flying devices, not necessarily like wings as Hiccup would craft.

Jack gets a heart attack (metaphor) every time Jim works on those projects. Toothless is on constant standby.

So I suppose, Jim pranked Gobber in the smithy, Gobber visits to tell him off while parentals are there. Jim is chagrined. Since Jim's not looking, instead of looking stern, Hiccup and Jack remember all the trouble they caused at his age. Coming soon, hopefully, JamStrid family with kid Dimitri, Elsa, and Anna. Probably won't be a group shot, but JamStrid couple shot with kids in separate photo. Let's see.

JamStrid HTTYD AU

Plotbunnies

Instead of Heather, the Defenders youth group of Hiccup ends up finding Jamie. (Similar to what I mentioned in the plotbunny set 4)

Similar to how Heather turned out to related to Dagur, Jamie is half brother to Eret. (A father was never introduced to the movie so let's say I headcanon divorce)

So in this AU, once Eret finds out about Jamie because of the gold pendant he always wears, he switches sides.

So in Httyd 2, Astrid, Jamie, and company with Eret ends up getting captured by Drago when they tried to liberate the dragon Eret told them were captured.

Eret pretended to turn against them again when they got captured.

Instead of how they were going to be killed on the get go after the confrontation with Drago, they were imprisoned. Eret frees them and they get to work preparing for the ambush as seen in the movie.

Jamie rides with Astrid. Like Jack, he plays a support role in the battlefield as weapon replenisher and medic.

He does know some hand to hand combat though, mostly going for pressure points to make them past out.

Jamie later asked Hiccup to help him turn the gold pendant into the ring he would use to propose to Astrid at the end of Httyd 2.

This makes Hiccup wonder when he would be proposing to Jack.

Jamie and his family lives in Berk after the whole "Alvin the Trechearous" debacle.

They open up a tavern. Jamie cooks meals there when he's not with Astrid, Jack, or the others of his age group.

Jamie has a "prank protection" badge (metaphorically speaking) since Jack has a soft spot for him as his "best-friend-not-a-boyfriend" not to be confused with Hiccup's former "only-best-friend" title... And cause Jamie also has an "Astrid's beau protection" badge as they grew older.

JamStrid are married before Httyd 3 plot begins.

Additional minor plotbunny, Ruffnut and Fishlegs have Kristoff for a son. Just so Anna x Kristoff can happen in the future.

I didn't know which was better, Dimitri with his leg up or not; so here's both.

Plot🐇🐇🐰🐰s!!

The families spend Snoggletog together, along with the in-laws and self-proclaimed best uncles, Aster and Gobber, and actual uncle Eret.

Dimitri and Jim have a frenemy relationship, growing up. They annoy each other respectively, but the moment the other is in trouble when chanced up hostile creatures, like trolls or wolves, they get real protective.

Now Hiccup knows how Stoick felt whenever he ran into dangerous things when he was younger.

Anna ships her older brother with the chief's son like crazy.

Elsa is okay as long as everyone's happy.

Dimitri teases him a lot about it, but on occasion, he does help Jim with one of his flight board projects.

Being an only child and the chief's son, Jim is actually a dutiful child growing up. It was only when Dimitri started poking fun at him did he pretend to detest it.

Despite Dimitri living there, and having to cook some meals in it, Jim is a better cook than Dimitri and sometimes helps cook some dishes at the tavern.

When both gets into mischief, they're grounded doing their least favorite chore which is cleaning Jamie's tavern for a week, since Jim does actually like doing some stuff like watching sheeps and learning stuff from uncle Gobber at the smithy.

Jim later gets a pet dragon in the form of a terrible terror he named Morph.

Jim has Morph testing the prototypes and checking how much weight the steam powered hoverboards can take. Toothless is protective of his little Furiescto let him use them.

Jim makes his first successful board at eight years old. Dimitri pointed out he wouldn't be able to figure out how to make it much more possible to sustain an adult weight since they were still growing.

The boy took up the challenge.

Jack is so done with his husband and child cutting years down from his life with their test flight episodes. Sometimes, he has to ground both of them with Toothless and Luna's help.

The four parentals have Friday night dragon races, to see who gets Saturday date night and who has to watch their kids.

Once Dimitri and Jim were a little older, the HiJack and JamStrid parental starts going on double dates again and the dragon race Friday nights became dragon race family night.
